[Q] Posting in dev forums - General Questions and Answers

Hi,
i really want to post in dev forums because I want to give some feedback to the devs. Actually, that's the only reason I singed up here. I don't get it that new users are generally treated as stupid and aren't allowed to post there. And after 10 posts (topic unrelated) it is assumed that the user is worthy to give some feedback?!
So what should I do? Start a countdown in this thread from 9 to 1? I'm sorry I really don't have anything to contribute
Regards

It's been asked and answered like a million times. Rules are rules. U can't do anything about that. If you have any questions then ask in the q&a forum. If you wanna make those 10 posts, go to q&a, answer some questions, make useful posts. That's done so that people get used to the forum, learn basic stuff and not spam dev section with random posts.

post in developer forum

Can someone tell me the reason why i need 10 posts to post in developer forum?
Greets
Probably because they don't want people creating accounts and spamming those forums right off the bat. Keeping the dev forums more focused on getting things working than general chat and I need help etc. Just my view on it.
I thought it's stupid too, but after I realised how stupid people can be, I think it's a good idea. Just answer for a few questions here and you will have the 10 really soon.
thanks for posting this question so I can add another post to sum up to 10 or more posts to finally be able to participate where I would like to Rhobuntu on HTC TP2.
So silly - now they move from Ubuntu to Debian squeeze which is what I have running on my computer and next week I should have an HTC TP2 available for development only. Just - I cannot post !

Don't tell me that!!
I've been posting around Q&A to reach those 10 posts because I want to ask and help on dev forums... :-(
Well, almost there, let me see what topic I can participate and then, if I keep being "blocked" off-of the dev forums...
There are very good reasons why the 10 post rule has been set up, a couple of which have been said above.
Why do you need to post in the dev section anyway? Are you a developer? If you arent and you create a new thread (question) it will probably get moved here.
If you are asking a question, the Q&A is the place

is right to by like this

Because your ten posts were not helpful, they were spammy. And if you have a question, ask it in Q&A NOT Development. How hard is that to understand?
well, the question concerns a curtain app, so I would like to ask in the dev forum , where this ALREADY HAVE BEEN discussed in a special thread.
You might find that some of us here are quite knowledgable and therefore your answer could be easily obtained here without the need to post in the dev forums
Why dont you give it a go and ask here ?
Also, if your question has already been asked, there is in all probability an answer there; so eed to re-post the same question?
I can understand the rule but not your argument. What if he has been using an app that has its own topic in the dev forum and he wants to post a bug report or ask a question that hasn't been asked before. If it's about that specific thing it should go in that specific thread.

yes, you have a valid point. However i was trying to put forward the notion that far too many people post in the dev sections without properly researching first, hence the requirement for the 10 post rule.
Of course the OP may have a very genuine bug to report, if this is the case then can the OP let me know if he still cant postin dev and ill look into it.

not 100% true. I mean, when you use a ROM sometimes you want to exchange ideas with other users, make questions and even report bugs / make suggestions. you may not be a developer but in some way, everyone can be a beta tester! it doesn't make sense to star opening Q&A for CyanogenMod7 if you have a proper place in Developers Forum... And that's why I had to answer 10 things around (useful answers!) to use that section of the forums...
by the way, i don't know if the posts have to be useful, but i had access immediately to the dev forums...
hi, i'm a new user from spain, i need 10 posts to write on developers forums, where is in that forum the noobs place! thanks
I think it's a good idea. Learn your way around before posting/rambling on a devs forum. Think before you Speak.
well guess the builder of this forum tried to keep people stay here longer...or what else?

Rewarding stupidity?

t1mm0, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:
Please Read: New members (those with fewer than 10 posts) are not permitted to post to development-related forums.

I've been visiting XDA for many years and always find the answers to my questions via searching rather than posting questions.
I've therefore never had the requirement to post in the development section but I do now regarding ICS RC4.
I realize that there are many users who never search and *do* post stupid questions but is there any way for someone like myself to skip the 10 posts?
This isn't perhaps the best titled thread but I kinda feel like this since I'll have to post another 8 stupid threads before I can get to the folk who may know the answer to my question.
If you want to post a question about something related to a ROM, try looking in the Q&A section for the ROM you're using. You can post there without the 10-post limit, and unless you're bringing up a specific bug or have some sort of code to contribute to the item you would be posting under, that section should be able to handle whatever you would need.
New users should really read this I suppose.
I know it makes sense. I just needs an answer quickly

If the Q&A isn't getting you where you need to be, you could always try the waters of sending the developer in question a PM. Depending on how swamped they are, you might get the answer you're needing a lot quicker.
It's really a stupid rule. What it should be, is 50 posts to make a thread in the dev section.
Sent from my SGH-I897
I can see the objective of it the rule but yes, 50 posts to start a new thread in the Dev section would make more sense to me.
Agreed. I lurk, learn, and do. And I'm grateful to those who do develop on this platform. But I can't participate because I haven't passed the magic 10-post rule.
And I'm a software developer (not Android) by trade, so I understand what facilitates discussion and what does not, and I have a pretty good idea what are reasonable questions and what aren't.
The purpose of the Dev section is to post about developing not questions that is what the q&a or general

There are specific threads set up in Q&A for most of the ROMs, including ICSSGS RC 4. Post there and you'll be read, and most likely answered.

only member have 10 minimum post....why?

Hello All....
Sory before...i have join XDA forum, since time along ago.....
But, just from now i have been post in this forum...
Why? cause only member have 10 minimum post can reply the thread in every section...
I hope admin, can reduction this problem...cause, much member like me want to reply the thread but he can't....
anyway...thanks before for any respon....
This is exactly why there is 10 minimum useful posts rule.

yes i also want to ask question on development forum.
Because of selfish people posting stuff like: "yo, I didnt read the guide or the faq lol so plz post a one-click exe so dat i can install the hackz0rz on my phone thx."
Personally, I don't think this 10 post limit is that effective. However, it might deter the worst offenders...
XDA has rules like this in place for a reason and if you don't like them, it's tough really. The rules won't simply change because a few people moan about them.
So you want to post in the development forums? Either it's going to be a question which belongs in Q&A, you saying "Thanks" for a ROM, or being genuine and reporting an issue with a certain ROM etc.
Now, if it belongs in Q&A, keep it in Q&A. If you just want to say 'thanks', there's a button for that. And if you want to report a problem, bug etc. then either the dev already knows about it because of someone else reporting it, OR it's something that can wait until you've made 10 helpful posts. (If it was something too major, the dev would already know about it)
Is it really so hard for you to make 10 constructive posts? The answer to that is no.
The best way to do that is to answer other people's problems and queries in the General and Q&A forums for your device. Now that's really not hard to do.
And, on a final note, as you'll notice here, if you stay around for long enough and help others out, it's only the people who have around 10 posts who moan about the rule. People who have passed this restriction don't keep *****ing about it or anything like that. They simply say, while it may not have been ideal, we'll do as instructed and stick to the rules so we can truly enjoy our time as part of this vibrant community.

What he said, the rules are in place to stop normal users posting no dev stuff in the development section.
this is a rule, follow the rules and try to help.... and read a lot! learn a lot! and then help a lot!
I have often solutions for some problems, but i can't post in development. It's stupid (10 posts)
You can do another restrictions for spammers etc.

If the rule was considered "stupid" then it wouldn't be in place. It's in place in an attempt to cut down on the spam and useless crap which goes into the development forums. There's no 100% way of stopping spam but at least this aides the solution.

People still post ALOT that shouldnt be in the dev, but this is one way to slow it down
To many people post questions in the dev forum and so it had to be done
I think it's a good idea... personally i entered here to find answers to some questions about my phone (a Huawei U8180), but every single question that i had has already been answered... and i don't flood a thread with my silly questions... so... i think this method is good.

Let's be honest, making ten posts really isn't hard.
Unfortunately a lot of people seem to get their ten posts by complaining that they have to get ten posts in the first place.

All your posts up to now are useless, and doesn't contribute to the forums at all. Mostly just a few words answering the, what is your first phone, forum or something like that.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda app-developers app
First of all, wrong section for this type of topic. Secondly, this rule is in place for a number of good reasons and likely will remain, so complaining isn't go to get anyone anywhere. Finally, cheap attempts to increase one's post count beyond 10 (ie. spam) will result in those posts being deleted and a warning being issued. Thread closed.

[Q] i cant reply

where do we supposed to reply in this forum? if we make a new thread here, they will closed it. if we reply to the topic that we needed, we are not allowed. what will we do here?

You need to fulfill the 10 post rule first. Most threads are development threads, therefore new members are not allowed to post until the 10 post minimum is met. This doesn't mean go and make 10 spam/junk/worthless posts either. Someone is always watching for this kind of behaviour.
zerovirusity said:
to all members here, although we are newbies here, we are aware of the rules in this forum because i am also a member in some forums. i hope you will considerate us. we chose to be a member here because this forum has a lot of things that we needed and some answers for our questions. if that's the case that we need to post 10 or more than posts, then please allow us here to post. don't closed it first until we reach 10 posts.

Threads are only closed for irrelevant posts/spam. Make a worthwhile post and it won't be deleted/locked/removed. Pretty simple really. Everyone needs to bear in mind that this forum is intended for developers. Which 90% or better of you are not.
There are already plenty of threads that discuss this topic, so we don't need a new once (hence the closure).
One of my favourite reasons for the 10 post rule is that it encourages most users (the less spammy and needy ones) to spend more time reading than trying to post in development forums. If you do spend enough time reading you find that 99% of your questions have already been answered, and you learn a hell of a lot and start being able to answer questions yourself. That's a great way to take part in the community as a contributing member. In fairness, if you come here to leech and not participate then you're not adding anything to the forum.
Anyway, if you want more info then see the link in my signature about 10 posts - that should answer more questions

Somebody Help

Will somebody Plz care to explain what is the Concept of being Eligible for Posting in Developers Thread only After posting 10 Posts:crying::crying:
I don't understand
For Example, If i have a doubt about a Rom and want to post in respective Thread, am not allowed to.. Am allowed to post only in General Q & A Section. It is very difficult to get Answer. Some People are kind enough to respond to PM, Otherwise it is hell of a Job to get an Answer.
What is the use of posting 10 posts which are not usefull only to get a Usefull Answer

It is to make sure that people don't post anything they want to as soon as the get an account. It is there in an effort to avoid new users from posting wrong threads and questions in the development section. If you want to read more go here

You said that you have to post useless posts and other things to get to being able to ask questions in the dev threads. Well the 10 post rule was made so that you could contribute to the community in the q and a sections and so forth to get your 10 posts.

Thanks for Clarification. I still see people asking so stupid questions in dev's thread inspite of their coverage extensively in many thread, But they are allowed to post for only they have completed their quota of 10
