This is from the RAZR forum I guess.. seen it there..
And those guys couldn't reboot or boot normally after doing this.. they had to use bp tools every time or use custom init with bmm or ss3 after the rooting process.. guess that issue is only for att phones..

I've tried the 3 or 4 that have been in the dev forums, all with errors and failures, and abd out of date or something.
Ive tried the one clicks
http://www.theandroidsoul.com/root-htc-one-xl-att-one-x-1-85-update-with-just-one-click/
and methods from OneXRoot.com
The one click root in the dev forum DOES work, and is currently the only root method for 1.85. I have used it 4 times now without issue. If you are having trouble getting it to work, ask for help in that thread, it's what it is there for.

Yes, that one. If it doesn't work you need to set your date ahead 2 days and try again, as it says in the OP. You might still get a couple errors but check to see if SuperSU is installed and check if the SU binary is installed.

Haha, i edited my previous post. It worked, thanks again lol!
You just have to keep trying and make sure that each new try you move the date up 2 days. I actually had to use the 1.85 RUU to restore my phone because of some problem that made the storage read/write speed nonexistent so the launcher wouldn't even load.
So if it continues to not work for you, maybe you just have to use the RUU to restore your phone and then try it again.

Speaking of unlocking my bootloader
Following these directions:
http://briefmobile.com/how-to-unlock-att-one-x-bootloader
It tells me to click on Unlock-Bootloader.bat, but that file isnt even included in the zip that I downloaded.
Yeah they need to update the instructions. Click spoof-cid.bat.
And you gotta stop going to these other sites for this stuff. Everything you need can be found in xda's dev section. It's where everything originates from anyways so might as well go right to the source

General Info
Hello all. I had some cm code lying around a couple months ago, so decided to try to compile twrp for the desire. I ended up failing miserably, however what i got out of this was a decently working build of ClockworkMod touch. All credits go to Koush and the rest of cm team who worked on originally creating cwm. All i did was compile it using the latest code (at the time) and run it through the cm jenkins build server to get the touch functionality. It honestly wasnt very hard, so dont thank me too much Anyways, this probably wont be the most popular due to the fact that 4ext seems to be the go-to recovery for the desire, but i thought I'd share anyways rather than leaving it on my desktop for the rest of eternity. Some people might actually like it as afaik the latest available version for the desire is 5.8.0.2 (feel free to correct me if im wrong) so this is a pretty nice upgrade i guess. Enjoy
Downloads
CWM Touch 6.0.3.5
-Dev-Host
-Mediafire
-md5 checksum: dc4a4067ae7fc8456034293cad5cc76a
CWM 6.0.4.5 with Touch Swipe Controls
-Dev-Host

Bugs
-When you boot into it, you get a message saying "Warning: no file_contexts" for a couple of seconds before the recovery menu comes up. This seems to be harmless.
-Let me know if you find anything else
Instructions
1. Setup fastboot and install these drivers.
2. Download the provided recovery.img file and put it on your desktop. Check that the md5 checksum is correct.
3. Turn your phone off. Boot it into fastboot using back button + power button, then plug it into your computer. On your phone it should now say "FASTBOOT USB".
4. Open command prompt and enter the following commands:
Code:
fastboot devices
If your phone (serial number) shows up continue. If not, it means that your drivers aren't installed correctly and your computer cannot recognize the phone. Do not continue until you are able to get fastboot devices to return the serial number of your phone.
Code:
cd Desktop
Code:
fastboot flash recovery FilenameOfRecovery.img
After the installation is finished, proceed to the next step. (it should only take a few seconds to install)
5. Unplug the phone, and go back into the bootloader. From there you can scroll down to RECOVERY, and boot into it.
Thats great
I think it was possible to create spare backups (or whatrver its called, it just backups changed files) with that version, right?
I will try it later @home.

Aww thats unfortunate. I thought i read somewhere that with the next generation of 4ext there would be plans to add support for newer devices such as the n4, but the developer seems to have slowed down.
I just realized that this actually has a decent amount of downloads considering how dead this thread is.
Is anyone interested in the latest cwm (6.0.4.5) with swipe controls?

V6.0.3.5 was fine, but V6.0.4.5 was not that great, you must select options and zips with trackpad, I always felt like I'm working with amon ra recovery or rmd recovery. CWm recovery was normal, but for having more features, I prefer 4ext recovery, rmd recovery (to flash hboot and other images through recovery that is very useful) and twrp, that is very easy to use. I found a bug (I think) in V6.0.4.5 that was unable to detect and wipe sd-ext.(error: something like wrong path(sd-ext). One error that is annoying in trwp (maybe only for me) is that it hasn't the yes or no feature. For example: wifix, that when you want to flash, you don't see the option to choose yes or no. By the way, thank you chromium. Very good effort.

Ok bro.... You should take your device to service centre... They may charge you some money but I think they can fix it and flash stock firmware
Hi, this happened to me once while I still had an HTC Sensation, every rom I flashed didn't boot past the splash screen boot logo, and it had something to do with having s-on instead of s-off in my phone's recovery preventing it from booting other custom OS's.
I found a fix somewhere, which made me understand I didn't need to have S-Off to have a Custom OS, flashed, rather, there was this small trick, booting the phone from the boot.img file with adb instead of rebooting from a custom recovery. This was an HTC Sensation, not a Samsung, Only trying to help:
* Get/Extract the boot.img file in your custom rom's zip and save it somewhere on your desktop.
* Once you're done flashing the custom rom in recovery, DO NOT reboot from recovery, turn it off by removing its battery and fixing it back, then boot your phone into downloader mode and run these commands.
Code:
cd C:\Users\your-username\Desktop\
( path to where you've got your boot.img file )
Code:
adb flash boot boot.img
Your phone should now boot the custom Rom fine, like I said, you'll be trying this at your own risk, as this worked for an HTC in a similar situation.
Hope I was able to help.

Already did it, it does'nt help either
I know many here at XDA frown on using toolkit's, but if you having problems try
Wug's Nexus Root Toolkit. Its free and works fantastic.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766475
It will install custom recovery. Just install the toolkit, select your phone model and let it download the needed dependency's then click the advanced button,
then look under Fastboot Flash for the recovery button and follow the prompts to install TWRP.
Best of Luck

One other thought.
Because It looks like you are doing things correctly.
Sometimes changing your USB cable to Hi quality one will help
as cables can sometimes work fine for charging but not work well for flashing.

You Sir, are correct.
I just knew I would take some heat for suggesting the sacrilegious toolkit

Hey guys,
Using a guide for the g3 by @topet2k12001 i was able to get permanent recovery working for our d801's running the new 30b Lollipop. I compiled the necessary files into a flashable zip for you all. The zip contains bump'd lollipop boot.img, kk aboot.img, and twrp 2.8.6.1 recovery.
as always... FLASH AT YOUR OWN RISK
Prerequisites:
- Running Stock D80130b
- Rooted
- Autorec installed
Getting Started:
- Copy TWRP-2.8.6.1_D80130b.zip to your phones storage
- Run Autorec and flash TWRP (2.7)
- Reboot to recovery
- Flash TWRP-2.8.6.1_D80130b.zip
- Enjoy!
You should now have a permanent recovery.

If i remember correctly, that means you are not currently rooted - or Autorec doesnt have root permissions
Done!..you're awesome man. By the way, my lollipop charges so slowly like in 4-5 hours. Any help you can offer me?
Thanks very much!! Works great

Just let it cycle a few days. It will improve.
Same happened for me with 30a and 30b. Of anything i reccomend using "amplify" xposed module.

I had that problem once but it was in the middle of me re-flashing the kdz a bunch of times and it didn't happen again. Start fresh if you can

Great work man!
I knew when I saw you working on it in the other thread that you'd find something!
May I ask what you did to fix this?

I pulled the aboot.img and laf.img from 20e , bumped the stock lollipop boot.img using a guide i found in the g3 forums and packaged it with twrp 2.8.6.1.
I'm not super experienced or anything but this kind of stuff interests me so i learn as i go
That's pretty awesome. I was gonna try something similar, but I was afraid I was gonna brick my phone... I didn't think about bumping the boot.img at all, that was smart haha.

It took me a ton of trial and error haha, luckily i had the stock recovery already zip'd so if anything went wrong i could usually just flash that in order to be able to boot again and start over.

That was my plan....... When i first flashed this rom i had no problem with installing autorec but then i got the security error.. So i just flashed kdz then rooted and set the phone up...... Can't wait to get all this going.... Really untested to see how sins if these custom roms run with new radio
Screen goes crazy when recovery tries to dim screen...looks like back when lgd jdi screen issues used to be a problem

maybe try flashing blastagators twrp package for the 801 : http://blastagator.ddns.net/twrp/2-8-6-1.php
even though this is what i used in mine anyways, it's worth a shot. You will still be able to boot after flashing this since it is only recovery.
