Black lines flickering in browser! Help! Keep or exchange again? - Asus Transformer TF700

Do I keep my tf700t since this is my second and has those flickering black lines for a few seconds. Or try another one? Not sure if this is software or hardware issue. I'm getting mixed answers. I don't want to give it up for one with more problems. This thing runs flawless otherwise.

Darn really having issues with quotes.
Well I had flickering issues with wild blood the game I'm playing but never had issues with the tablet itself after it happened.
Are you running stock of a custom rom?

Just got it 2 days ago. Still stock for now. But I heard it was an issue with jelly bean. Did not happen with ICS. Going to unlock and root and re flash back to see. I've heard it fixes it.

Screen Flicker

So, I just bought the tablet today, and I really like it, minus a rather strange issue.
I read about the firmware update to .29 that would resolve the screen flickering issue, but when running the firmware update out of the box I am now on .30, and the screen still flickers.
I have played around with settings and such, but I haven't found a way to get rid of the flickering, even on the latest firmware. Is there a way to resolve this? Perhaps flashing the .29 firmware when in recovery, and if so how do I do that?
And it is not just specifically the "flicker from the left side of the left side of the screen" issue. It seems to happen all over the place, it is really noticeable in the app drawer, all the icons flicker like the image is unstable.

Hi, I just got mine as well. I had some weird flickering issues which I managed to get rid of by turning off the auto-brightness setting. HTH.
No that didn't help...in fact that seemed to make it worse. I am starting to wonder if its a hardware defect. I do have two weeks to exchange it.

Try doing a factory reset. If that doesn't work return it for an exchange.

I actually did that last night. Still the same thing. Must be an actual hardware defect. I assume other TF300 users do nit have this issue?

Screen flicker in certain apps

I am noticing an issue with a screen flicker in some applications with a line drawing across the screen for a split second. It occurs most when using rdp apps but just saw it happen while typing this post. it's about 3/4 of the way up the screen when in landscape. Usually a black line that disappears quickly, like a graphics corruption issue. Already did a factory reset, saw the same thing on another tf700... anyone else?

Same thing for me after update to JB. Copilot and Cool reader.
You're not crazy, saw this happen while using the Nook app as well. I hope ASUS is aware of this bug
I've been noticing this issue in Tapatalk the most - probably because it's most noticeable on a white background...
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using Tapatalk 2
same here.... mostly with apps that are being resized because they are not fully for tablets
I am seeing this more and more, and not just with resized apps. Just had it with the gallery.... i have seen this with 3 infinity tabs so far and they were all bought at different times. I can only describe it as a graphics driver issue, anyone else seeing this?

Same for me too unfortunately. I can't even play Horn, GTA3, Black Ops Zombies, or any graphic intense game. It really sucks! Horn worked just fine until the last OTA I accepted. Still on ICS, havent taken the JB update as I'm gonna unlock bootloader and get nvflash going first. Hoping I can cure the issue with a custom Rom *crossing fingers*

TF300T Display Flickering On and Off

Hello all. I've just recently acquired a used TF300T. I'm having an issue with the entire screen flickering on and off. It has done this in recovery as well as in the os. Tab is fully charged and everything. Has anyone else seen this issue? Would anyone know if this is a software issue or a hardware defect? Also, tab has been updated to Jelly Bean but this issue was there on stock ICS when I received it on first boot. Any help or replies would be appreciated.

I suggest you go back to the store you bought it from...it doesn't sound good at all.
My tablet has never done that.

Contrast degradation

I noticed my TF700 is suffering from contrast degradation after prolonged use. I could be using the browser and then the screen seems to kinda whiten up a bit more then usual. It's still readable but noticeable. Wondering if anyone else is noticing this and if it has been noticed does it get worst because mine is happening more often now.

Turned off Auto Brightness?
Turned off Battery Saving? Not the speed toggle, the one in settings that turns on when battery gets low. This has an auto-contrast.
So that settings / power savings / first selection battery saver. Thanks I will post results.

I'm still getting the weird contrast.

It sounds like the effects of the Asus "Smart Backlight Adjuster". Go to "Settings->Asus Customized Settings->Enable Smart Backlight Adjuster" and uncheck that option - I think that will solve your issue... This is completely different (and separate from) the auto-brightness setting.

Thanks I will try it when I get home. Kinda driving me nuts. Instead of the solid black letters I get light grey letters. Harder to read. Just started happening maybe 2 weeks ago.

Are you talking about xda? If so change your theme to xda 2010 at the bottom
It starts up fine then after a while when it gets warm everything gets lighter. More noticeable when browsing the web.

Hmm, that actually sounds a little more serious that just the setting that I talked about a few posts back... Almost sounds like a hardware issue.
Let us know what you find out - a picture would also help. In fact, if you take a screenshot with the TF700 and post the picture and the picture looks fine, then it would definitely be a hardware problem (the screenshot would capture what is supposed to be displayed - if it's a hardware problem, the screenshot would look normal to everyone else, but would still look bad to you, if that makes any sense)...
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using Tapatalk 2
I have the same problem, noticed yesterday for the first time. It looks as if contrast is lower and brightness higher than normal.
I am still within my 30 day best buy return period, should I consider returning it? I have unlocked it, would best buy care?

Yeah that's what Im experiencing. I have a square trade warranty but I'm curious to see how they will remedy this. They would have to use it for a bit till it warms up.

Cool - glad that if fixed it for you guys. Personally, I don't know what Asus was thinking with that one! It's utterly horrible! At least they finally provided a setting for it (previously, you had to be rooted and type some commands @ the Android command-prompt to disable it)!

Anyone had a random reboot on the latest 4.2.1 update?

Hello everyone, I have tf300 with 4.2.1 rooted and busybox installed
It had been amazing but just today, I got a random reboot when I was watching videos with YouTube app.
This isn't a thread where someone goes "baaaaaaaaaaaa somethings wrong!!! Someone help" but I just want to know whether or not it's a problem with my tablet (maybe a bad flash or something) or it is an actual firmware problem.
Thanks!

Yours seems to be worse than mine. I've been running my tablet on 4.2.1 for quite a time now but this is the first time... Maybe it is the bad flash. Used to happen on ICS on my first TF300 (Exchanged it). I guess I'll wait another day or so and see if the problem persists or it's one time thing.

Yea seems to be get it quite often not sure why. Was on all stock when updated got it ota then unlocked the bootloader so not sure why was thinking of sending it back to newegg for and exchange but they're slow as all hell put in for an rma earlier this week like monday they're supposed to send me the shipping label haven't gotten it yet. Was printed already its only good for 7 days by the time it gets here will be no good. Figures. Would rather find a way to fix it maybe ill try a reflash like you mentioned.
Also didn't mention bought it as refurb which may have been the original issue prior to them reselling it. Who knows.

Your not the only one gonna try to reinstall the update when its a good time to go through the whole process of setting it back up. Was gonna root it any way so no point to get an exchange if can be fixed. If send it to asus theres a chance they can repair it and lose unlock bootloader and not be able to regain it happened to a couple people on here. When i try it will repost if anything changes.

You to thanks wouldn't have thought of trying until talked to you. Pretty sure fixed it usually rebooted at least once if not twice a day. None yet today. Can actually enjoy using it now. Ota really screwed it up glad don't have to send it back to newegg. Although didn't sound like yours had as bad of issue should probably fix it. Good luck.
Trust me I've been testing it now that i got the shipping label need to know by monday if really need to send it back which would suck it's my only pc right now.

Glad I found this, my totally stock machine is also now having random reboots....I see people re-installing the update.
Care to share how please....might help might not but willing to give it a shot
Thanks
I got a random reboot today whilst going through the painful experience of browsing with this tablet. It took about 5 minutes or more to start up again and when it did, the system UI kept crashing which made the tablet hard to use as the message kept popping up. Thereafter, when i tried to reboot using the power settings, it froze. Very frustrating. I was able to sort it by holding the power button to turn it off and then turning it back on. It seems to work fine for now but it's something that shouldn't be happening. I'm stock and unrooted

It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
Hm... seems like many people are experiencing this? Maybe it is a problem with the firmware itself?

Mine keeps rebooting everyday now and I can't unlock the bootloader because of some "Unknown Error", I'm seriously considering giving RMA a shot then try to sell it if it doesn'tfix the issue...

This was driving me crazy until i realized that every time it rebooted automatic updates were running. Not sure how this happened, maybe corruption caused by play updates running when android updated. Uninstalling the 4 perpetually updating apps and reinstalling seems to have corrected the problem (or it's a lucky coincidence).
I was also having wireless dropouts, not sure how that would be related to updates but seems to have stopped now, possibly the updating process was spinning or using some other resource. I definitely recommend disabling auto updates and seeing if that helps.
