Google maps wakelocks - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Hello guys I having a lot of wake locks by Google maps and battery drain, can somebody help me find a solution? I will appreciated

It's already disabled

Get an app called App Quarantine
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ramdroid.appquarantine
You can select it as a widget and it will only unfreeze and launch Maps when you use the widget. You can then close Maps and re freeze it with the widget. Location stuff still works fine using google location services, you won't notice a difference in any other apps.

I'm confused or the problem here. Your unplugged for 5.5 his already. Your battery appears to be around 75% still. Also, all those apps are only 55% of your drain. Which means your screen is the other 45% which I'd guess is around an hour screen time. So you're on pace for 22 hours up time with 4-5 hours screen time..... That's solid battery life! Something is always going to be number one on your wake lock list.

Even still 150+ wakeups in 5 hours is a bit ridiculous. Even with location reporting. With it off maps shouldn't be waking the phone at all

Saving battery life

Hi all.
Looking for some serious help. Coming from a Samsung vibrant. I need help with how to save battery life on the sensation. I have been off charger for 5 hours and 51 minutes and am down to 41%. Is this normal? I have been only texting really. I got my data from battery monitor.
Thanks in advance. Anyway to make this better?
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA Premium App
It all depends on what you're using the phone for. I'm at 55% after 12 hours. yesterday I got 17 hours. if all you're doing us texting then no,thats not normal. but I suspect you're probably doing more with it than you realize since its a new toy.

He prolly has running wifi as well?
Settings > Wireless and networks > Wifi settings > [MENU BUTTON] > Advanced > Wifi sleep policy > After 15 minutes
Stop Android from phoning home and you'll save greatly on battery life.
Best way I've found to prevent battery drain, is to stop Android from phoning home.
Once you use an app like Autostarts to stop unnecessary things from starting up all the time on their own and also block a couple ports that are not always needed via an app like DroidWall, you'll see great battery life. Also see other details in that link of things I turned off to increase battery life amoung other benefits.
For now, I can only speak for seeing the difference while using a Nexus One ROM on my HD2, but I have way better battery life, GPS lock times and faster device boot ups than ever before.
This is yet another one of the reasons I must wait till the Sensation is rooted and unlocked. Because I'm not using it while it's running things I can't better manage, so they don't drain my battery.

How did u get that much? I have battery monitor as a widget. I also did not charge the phone all the way up when I first got it.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Well to be honest for the 8 hours I'm at work, I use it light. texting, a few calls and about 30 minutes of reading pulse and playing games. However the next 8-9 hours I would consider moderate to heavy use. I have no monitors or anything running, just running straight out of the box.
I'm at 34% after 14.5 hours today.
I charged it fully the first day, ran it to 0, then charged it fully again last night.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
Did draining it out help? It is really killing my battery. When my phone idles it loses about 7 percent an hour. Is this normal?
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA Premium App
Mine is at most 3% per hour so I would say check if you have any running apps that aren't supposed to be.
I suppose draining could have helped but I have no way of knowing for sure
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
Yeah I killed my battery in 12 hours with decent use and then charged to 88 had to go but now down to 35 three hours later ....thinking of draining battery and then charging

I think custom kernel can improve battery a lot..Wait
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA App
I think mine's even worse. Phone was off charger at 100% at 11am, by 1:30PM it's already down to 80%ish. By 4PM it was down to 40%ish, got it charged up to about 70%ish around 6PM, by midnight I was around 6% again.
So I think I'm losing around 10%/hr. That's gotta be abnormal, and the battery gets really hot too. At the moment, I have several speculations:
1. Death grip causing the phone to work harder to find signal, and tmo's coverage kinda sucks in my town
2. I have defective unit/battery
3. Some apps behind the scene are killing it. But I've checked what's running behind, even turned off unnecessary stuff using autorun manager. Auto sync is turned of only for gmails. Weather, IMAP mails, pulse, facebook etc are set to pull in couple hrs instead hourly. The battery life cannot be worse than my 2-yr old HD2.
Hey guys. Have you considered bump charging. HTC advised the idea for the HTC desire battery and it in most cases doubles the battery.
Sorry I can't be more specific bit I'm on my phone. I have found the relevant link. Read the 1st post. I'm gonna do it when I get in from my gig.

Bump charging kills the battery in long run.
If you have to do it to a brand new handset it can't be good news.

I'd suggest uninstalling battery monitor. I had installed it on my g2x and immediately saw my battery percentage drajning more quickly. Probably because its always running in the background.
The best tip I can give for better battery life is to minimize what you allow to run in the background. Get rid of any task killers, set Facebook/Twitter/Email/etc to sync less frequently, turn off wifi if you're not using it so its not scanning for networks, and so on.
Also install juice defender from the Market. Its free. It has greatly increased my battery life.

I installed the Plus version because it allows wifi control. I just use the default settings except I change so it doesn't disable wifi. I do that because I use wifi calling at home so I dont want Juice Defender turning off my wifi. I always turn it off manually when I leave the house anyway.

Yea Balanced Settings is good if you don't mind it managing your wifi too. In the Plus version I selected Customize instead of Balanced. The only thing I changed was the wifi setting. There's a ton more settings to configure but the default ones work fine for me and I don't have the patience to sift through them all anyway lol

About 33 hrs w/ WiFi OFF, 30 hrs on. With use: calls, messaging, Facebook, ect...... maybe about 22 hrs. Running apps all day are GoLauncher, GoPower, Magic Locker.... ect..
i get about 14 hours before i have to charge on a regular day
Cell signal quality and whether the cell radio is on make a huge difference for me.
I spend most of my time where I have wifi and now turn off the cell radio during those times, getting upwards of 30h on one charge (including occasional cell radio usage). Before I did this, I'd usually get through the day but not much more, around 14h.
I'm currently using Easy Battery Saver. It is making a lot of difference. Been playing around with the different settings. I will report back after a full charge than discharge.

Why does it seem like my battery sucks. Or at least when i listen to tune in radio at work. 8am ill be at 100% and if i listen to radio for a couple hours by 12 noon ill be at 15%. That listening threw Bluetooth, wifi and GPS off, brightness all the way down. I no 4g kills ur battery way faster. But even if i turn 4g off battory still dies fast while listening to internet radio.
Any ideas why

Are you the type of person to press the home button when switching in between apps? If so they're running in the background, and apps like Facebook can eat up CPU usage. Bluetooth and radio apps will do the same.

Sent from my SGH-T769 using xda premium
Fairly typical. GPS is always on 24-7 and wifi on most of the time when home. Often end up charging and then taking off charge before bed so I get a 7 or 8 hour cruise mode with no activity to start off each battery stat as you can see by the plateau at the start. Over clocked @ 1344 w/ screen on, flat clocked with screen off and no undervolting so its not too bad. As soon as I move/copy/paste files or anything leaving screen on I see drastic drops in battery life but typical medium use lasts all day no prob and battery left to spare.
Sorry edit...... this is on my G-Nexus with Paranoid Android and trinity kernel.
My a500 on Flexreaper Extreem does about 25-30 hours with fairly heavy use. 40-48 hours when mostly idle. Overclocked @ 1504 screen on, 1000 screen off w/ Minor undervolt. Lovin custom roms !
WOW.....EDIT !!!! : I'm a tard. I could have sworn this was a Galaxy Nexus thread. I apologize, don't know how I ended up here.

Today was my best day yet. I updated to 1.85 via RUU and then flashed CleanRom 2.5.5 yesterday. Today I was on it literally all damn day and had over 3 hrs screen on time with 8hrs off the charger before I hit 60% battery. That was with a ton of web browsing, FB, xda app. Made some calls and used skype for a while too. I'm sure I could have hit 5 hrs easy if not more on the charge but I plugged it in when I got in my car. I thought I had good battery life before but that blew my mind.

Nothing special. Brightness at 33%, autosync is on, hotmail set for every 15 minutes... Not using twitter or any other funky accounts. I used autostarts to prevent a bunch of crap from running on its own but that's about it. I wasn't even trying to get that battery life, it just happened. Was using the phone pretty much business as usual.

Here are settings on my phone. And, I am down to 87% with 55 min screen usage (surfing xda) and 2 hour idle.
I don't use any 3rd party taskers/battery savers etc. Also, I don't download an app that is just a mobile website. I noticed that some apps are badly coded and consume more battery than their mobile site. Browser is optimized well. Also, default browser is better to juice than Chrome Beta.
Brightness % toggle is set for 10 25 50 100. I mostly use 10 25 and 50.
I keep data off when at home or work - 90% of the day.
I use fm radio app rather than streaming radio app - tune in when I can. Saves a tonne of battery.
Rooted on 1.73, debloated.

Rarely going into deep sleep.

Hey, I recently installed paranoid android v20, (my first custom rom on this phone) and I'm noticing that my phone isn't entering deep sleep very often. Last night I rebooted to refresh everything and get fresh numbers. I plugged it in and put it in airplane mode. And this morning it showed 5 hours in 192mhz and only 1 1/2 hours in deep sleep. (I only slept for 6 1/2) any idea what I can do to increase the use of deep sleep?
More detail: I have my cpu set to 1350mhz max - 192mhz min, with interactive governor, using Kernel tuner.
Sent from my HTC Sensation using xda app-developers app
You can go to settings, developers options, and make sure that " stay awake" is not checked. Because if checked it will prevent device from sleeping. Also check permissions on your installed apps and make sure they don't say prevent phone from sleeping. You can also try the app from the market called " Deep sleep battery saver " it puts the device into deep sleep when not in use. I think this will be helpful for you! Best wishes and hope I've helped you!!
Sent from my HTC Sensation
Stay awake is off. And I tried that app before and I'm not sure if it worked. But I'll try it again. And how would I find out which apps have "prevent phone from sleeping" other then checking each app one by one? And, other then uninstalling, how would I disable it? Thanks.

You could install BetterBatteryStates.
It monitors 'wakelocks' which keeps the phone awake. You might find the app/settings to blame.

Okay, last night I charged my phone and left it unplugged with better battery stats monitoring. This morning I look and find a 22% drain after 10 hours, 9 hours in deep sleep, 1 hour awake. I checked and 44% of partial wake locks was Google maps. Why? Am I being tracked? Sheesh! So I used link to SD to freeze it until I need to use it. (which isn't to often as I primarily use Waze for navigation, maps is mainly for bus directions.) hopefully that will increase my battery life. Thanks!

Thank you in advance.

Battery life

Hey guys, so I charged my phone to full and then its been 3 hours since then.. I'm at 39% battery. When I go to battery stats, 96% usage is the "screen" category. What's going on? This is way too short. I'm on hyperdrive ROM with the stock kernel option.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda app-developers app
whats your screen on time?
do you have your screen timeout time set to a really high number?
You could try better Battery stats to get an idea of what's been draining your battery. I think that there is a link to a free download somewhere on Xda.
Yeah my screen timeout is like 10 minutes but should that matter if I'm not actually leaving the screen on for 10 minutes at a time? Screen on time is about 2 hrs

You can always try a different kernel to see if it offers better power management. Quite a few of them floating around in development/original development.
Lean kernel, kt747, ziggy's, anthrax (not on xda), etc are all options
