OTA with stock ROM but older radio - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Quick question if anyone knows the answer. I'm running stock VRBLK3 ROM, but loaded older VRLG7 radio via Oden. If a new OTA comes down, what would happen? Would it bail out since radio isn't correct rev? Or is radio fully flashed each OTA so it doesn't matter? Or could something bad happen?

it should be fine as I flashed a blk3 based custom ROM but had the radio from the previous ota( the last from ice cream sandwich). It worked fine but I still flashed the latest radio.

My question was not if radio and ROM have to match. Instead I was asking if I can accept a new future OTA if my ROM is stock/latest, but my radio is down rev?

No as it will flash the latest radio as well.

Ok, well just as long as nothing bad happens I'm ok with it.

[Q] Help with installing roms from stock

Hey guys,
I'm relatively new to playing with Android roms, and currently have a HTC Sensation.
I've worked out the kernel that I want to use (SebastianFM Overclocked kernal), the rom that I want to use (AndroidRevolta - slimmed down Virtuous Inquisition) but I wondering about the firmware. My phone is current unrooted, running stock ICS. Do I need to upgrade the firmware before I can flash this rom?
Thanks
to install another rom firstly you have to be rooted
secondly if you want to flash a firmware manually you have to be S-OFF
now about the rom you want to use i think as far as i know requires the latest firmware

Yeah, I know that it needs to be rooted first.
I've just seen things that say you need the latest firmware to run ICS, and I wasn't sure if that came with the offical ICS update.

Yes. Firmware is updated with latest ICS update.
If you have latest ICS update then you dont need to flash firmware again.

Is the firmware flash only for phones that don't have an offical ICS update?
So I can just root, install CWM and flash kernal and rom?

School me on the ways...

So, I am running CleanROM 6.0 R2.
Base of VRBMB1
Stock Kernel.
Now, when moving to a different ROM, say a new MF1, do I always have to install firmeware, or does a "FULL OS" ROM update that?
So, say I want to install this ROM tonight. Do I flash MF1 from this link as well? (If so, ROM first, or Firmware flashed first?)
I keep reading about updating software for the modem, (MODEM/RPM/TZ/SBL) ? I assume all firmware does not include all 4 items? Some just Modem? Clarification please.
Last, what is the RPM? TZ? SBL? Modem I get.
That for the newb refresh, as I have been playing catchup.

Quick firmware related question

Hey guys, just a quick question, must we always flash the firmware zip file first in bootloader before flashing a custom rom?
I ask this because I had already flashed the latest firmware (3.33.401.6) ages ago, I've been using albinoman887's CM 10.2 rom and Carbon Rom without any problems (well actually, I do have battery issues and 2 small minor issues). But today, I decided to check my firmware version using fastboot command
fastboot getvar version-main
Click to collapse
and I got something like 1.24.401.1.
Well, that's obviously wrong, so I flashed the firmware again and this time it shows the proper version.
So I was just wondering, does doing a full wipe or flashing a new rom affect the firmware at all? Must we flash it everytime prior to flashing a new rom? I don't understand how my firmware was changed even though all I've been doing is switching between JB custom roms.
doesn't affect the firmware at all
i don't know why it showed you that firmware version
flashing any custom rom doesn't affect firmware
there is no need to change it every time you are flashing a new rom
now leave it as it is

[Q] Will I Brick my Phone if I flash a newer radio?

I have a SCH-I535 and rooted it back before jelly bean was released for it. Therefore, I still have the ICS bootloader and radio. I am currently running a gummy nightly on 4.4.2. I read that if I flashed a newer radio, I would lose root and relock the bootloader. I want to flash a new radio because I get terrible signal compared to the same phone with a newer radio.
Is it safe to flash a newer radio?

Does flashing a ROM can affect Radio version?

Noob Question: Yo, guys, If you update the radio using fastboot then you flash a ROM, does it change the version of the radio?
E.G.
I update the radio to "2.0.50.2.30" using fastboot, then I clean/dirty flash Lineage OS (which according to what I've read, it comes with "2.0.50.2.29"). Will it change the version of the radio?
Based on my personal experience, flashing a ROM should not affect the radio version.
Nope it's not. Some of the ROMs coming with no radio/bootloader or outdated version, you should update your radio/bootloader for once then you are good to go.They survives dirty flash.
