I try to find more information about overclocking but I didn't find so much information .
I have many questions about overclocking which are :
1-which is the best value for desire s?a combination between daily usage and game....
2-it can harm my phone if I use a higher value?ex.1450....
3-stock value is 1024,and I set to 1200.is good or worse?
4-could someone explain every value from 1024 to 1450 value?

I'm currently using an Interactive governor with MinCPU 368MhZ (Less is laggy) and MaxCPU 1401Mhz...
I don't have any game installed on my phone so I can't tell you how they work...But battery is very good (almost 13hours) with an heavy usage of phone and messaging!
I think the major improvement you can archieve is changing IO Governor to noop -> it's really faster and reactive...

Tanks for your answer,is good to know that overclocking is benefit for phone but overclocking to maximum level it won't damage your phone?I meant that you can damage your cpu if you don't have the right value....
So my question is if someone know which is the right level minimum and maximum for a balance performance between daily usage and game ...

Every chip is different, some will handle oc to the max some won't. I suggest you start slowly and see what you're phone can handle. The phone handles most games and daily use at about 1.2. Don't try to push it too far too soon.

It all depends on what are you using your device for. As long as it is smooth and works for you it is fine.
I personally always had lag while opening the app drawer on Viper whatever kernel and CPU setup I had.

Could you previously overclock to 1836 without problems? I only ask as that clock for me way back was too much.Wondered if he had cracked the "only for some devices"
I was made aware that it is not 2.2ghz and is actually 1.78ghz with false identification on actual speed, trip has been made aware of this whether he did it intentially or by accident.

so what exactly does this do for the performance of your phone? Is it just apps opening up faster and games a little better?
I understand the performance gains in cpu overclocking for computers in that you get faster encoding for videos, maybe a few more fps in gaming etc but how noticeable is doing an overclock for your phone?
Is it more of a just because you can or is there a real benefit to the user that they can notice?
A 30% overclock on your PC might give you 10-15% better performance but does that equate to similar improvements with a moving to 1.5 or 1.78ghz on your phone?

It's a balance there is only so much you can get out of the CPU in anything once it passes the threshold you get less from it more heat less life we are at 1.2 default I would say after 2.0 we won't get much more but a dead battery is 3 hrs I got mine at 1.1 I am good with battery vs power consumption

Sent from my HTC Sensation using xda premium
I think it depends on individual preferences as to which governor to be used. I would say ondemand is the most commonly used governor and with the right tweaks, it will also be able to provide a balanced performance/battery ratio. If you want to know more about governors, perhaps you can check this out => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1369817

give a try to badass, i'm using it with CM10 RC, the UI is very smooth and saved a lot of battery. I also downclocked the maxfequency to 1299 and the min to 192 (i don't need to play cpu-intensive 3d games, there is PC fo that)
I'm curious as to what everyone's favorite app for changing kernel frequencies is. I figured I'd do a poll thread to find out so that I wouldn't have to ask in different threads from time to time. If you want you can also list why in the comments.

I'd say so. But I use to have an aria which was a 600MHz single core. I clocked it up to 806MHz. And that was considered fast 2 years ago!
With a dual core at 1.5GHz, I'd say it's nothing more than a battery drain if you aren't gaming. What I do however, is underclock my hox while the screen is off.

I agree though, that there is rarely a real "need" to overclock unless you feel the rom is slow or you are an avid gamer..
I use SetCPU because it was the first app I came across, but I've stuck with it for the small features. I like being able to set notifications when individual profiles become active (useful for games), and seeing the "Time in State" pie chart lets me know if my CPU is being fussy when idling. Sure, other apps may have more features, but there's literally no reason for me to look for a new one
Rom toolbox pro works fantastic!

Using No-Frills, not a whole lot of features but the most lightweight app I have found for handling OC, I like SetCPU but I would get wakelocks it seemed using profiles, so didn't add much benefit IMO.

Set the governor to performance. Battery eater though. But u only can choose better battery life or smoother graphics, so make up ur mind and choose one
When playing with overclocking unstick 'set on boot'. So that it goes back to normal once reboot in case of any freeze. Overclock it based on ur desired value, experiment with it, slowly. increase the value step by step. Leave it for a day then increase again. If it freezes then u know ur phone's limit.

i have read that people say it's stable up to 1.5 GHz.
I have set mine to 1.3GHz to be on the safe side.
And set it to,on demand,so it only takes up more when it needs to.
setting it up to high speeds can result in a melt down, draining batteries and will shorten out the life of your phone even when stable for a couple of days so be aware of what your doing...
there is no best value for everyone, some say 1ghz is enough, some say 1.5 ghz is not enough.
so it depends on what you need, its a trial and error thing

If you want separate screen on/screen off profiles, I would recommend daemon controller app (with andrev_oc installed through the app).
If you want more profiles for different situations, setcpu is probably the only real option.
Setting to 1.3 GHz depends on the kernel you're using, not on the app.

All phones will react differently so this information will not help you. Google each setting to see how if it will affect your phone and then change it to achieve what it is you desire. Then test, if you get reboots/bugginess, change settings and test again till things are optimized to your liking. Good luck, have fun. If this seems too much for you, my advice is don't touch those settings.
