Hi, I have a great suggestion for an app.
In Windows 7 you can download connectify and it will turn your computer into a wifi hotspot..an app similar to this for android would be a great idea and find lots of use not to mention tons of $$$!
I do know that there is a such app on the iphone (called Mywi) but it is only avaialble when you "jailbreak" but android market seems much more lenient since there are many tethering apps available like PDAnet but they are restricted on the iphone

That is for rooted devices only. I mean for people who would rather not "tamper" with their devices and leave it as stock
well those people can wait to upgrade to android 2.2, since it's part of the stock android rom.
Or they can pay sprint 20.00 per month. But for me I'd rather have full access to my phone.(I'm just saying). If ur concern about violating term of contact I think there is an unrooting thread out there somewhere.
Go ahead give it a shot.....EVO 4G

Actually, it is. Wether it makes it to your device or not depends on hardware/carrier and what not. It is removed from CM's Magic ROM, because the Magic does not have the correct chipset to support it.
It's likely most carriers will remove this to 'protect' their networks... So rooting is probably your best option for this. The issue is that root is needed from a technical aspect in order to perform the changes needed to the networking stack etc.
So for now it's either froyo with it included (needs your telco to be cool about tethering) or use the wifi tether app and root
I was scared to root my phone due to the fact that I was new at it and could brick my phone and lose my warranty.
But I grew a pair, and I'm rooted and do not regret it....

I'm running BB v0.4 FR84B Rom with wireless tether and it works
but is not included with Verizon Wireless (stock).
The USB (wired) tether *is* included but you have to pay for it-not free.
With the way carriers are concerning tethering please let me know
what carriers have this wireless tether feature preinstalled?
HI
hey is there a wifi app that can make your wifi connection go further out in range to pick up a wifi connection do xda have an app like that or the android app market

Are you telling me that wireless tethering is native to a stock
ROM from all Wireless providers and that they "choose" to leave it in or
omit it?
I'm sure if this is the case...it is a purely on a technicality.
Do you know of ANY stock ROM out there in existence that
leaves this feature there for its users (so that the wireless provider)
loses millions of dollars in revenue?
Well considering that native wifi tethering is new to 2.2, I guess we'll have to wait and see who pulls it and who keeps it.
And how does it lose millions in revenue anyway? I pay for a 6 gig data bucket. If I go over said data bucket, I pay through the nose for it.

Simply really.
Count how many smart phone users there are that purchased
a smart phone that may have the capability to (tether) either wireless
or wired, and add $20.00 per head on a plan...
In other words, companies don't want you to use your wireless phone's data
to operate other wireless enabled devices *unless* you pay a premium to do so.
Here in the US we have "unlimited" data plans when using the phone.
Verizon Wireless, and other network providers want that extra coin since you
are operating a device on their network.

I am surprised your phone can be used to connect other devices without
an additional charge? What is a wireless AP mode?
Is it an app you just toggle, and then use?
Or must you take additional steps to enable this feature?
I searched the net and I found a video here:

You also need additional software that did not come preinstalled.
I'd also like to add that outside of Europe this does not work...

I am in Europe, yes. The wireless access point is simply like connectify on your phone. However, my carrier, O2, some how detected that I was tethering my laptop, and after a couple of days, managed to prevent that working. But my girlfriend's desire continued to connect successfully.
It is a default app that you simply toggle on or off.

I have the DX with verizon wireless. It came with wireless hotspot installed but i would have to pay for it in order to utilize it. I rooted and now use Barnacle located on the Market. Have to have root access as well as busybox installed for it to work though. But yes 2.1 and 2.2 come with it stock out of the box. You just have to subscribe for it to work. But I like it free . I have used barnacle for up to 3 Laptops at the same time and it works great for me.
So far I've had no success with Synergy R73, JellyWiz, or stock odexed roms. I used Triangle Away with all of them, but no go. Synergy R73 (ICS) and stock ICS will connect via "Wifi Direct" in the settings, but the necessary "Allshare Cast" in the settings is missing, so even though I'm technically connected, nothing happens on the TV screen. JellyWiz has Allshare Cast in the settings, but it won't even recognize the dongle when it scans for it.
Has anyone with a Verizon SG3 gotten the dongle to work? If so, what rom and what's the secret?
Got a bit closer with Synergy JB Beta. It will recognize the dongle and connect, but always disconnects 10 seconds later. Frustrating that they're now selling an $80 device that doesn't seem to work with Verizon roms, but is marketed as working on the Verizon SG3.

I'm in the same boat. I can't find a VZW ROM that works. Jellywiz latest connects but disconnects in 10 secs. What us up with VZW siii that it would not be available? Might this have anything to do with VZW locking down the boot loader? Also based on the product availability it says it only works for sprint and t mobile versions not art or Verizon. Odd.
I was going to purchase this device, but instead opted not to because I wasn't sure if it would work with our vzw gs3. Interestingly though, on Samsung's website it indicates:
== ==
AllShare Cast Wireless Hub
**Compatible with the Samsung Galaxy S III (T-Mobile and Sprint), Galaxy Note II and Galaxy Note 10.1.
Compatibility may require the latest software update. To verify your device is compatible go into Wireless and Network Settings and verify that AllShare Cast is present in your menu options.
== ==
I don't see that option under my 'wireless and network settings'.
Like you, I wonder why not? This is really mind boggling.
*Hmmmmm*

Tried it on 7 roms so far. Stock rom is ICS, which doesn't have Allshare Cast in Settings, so that's a no go.
Has anyone had any luck with this? I also just purchased the dongle but am wondering if I should return it unopened.
Just for kicks I contacted Samsung support to see if they have any plans to support AllShare Cast in future updates. It does not appear to be so. Here is a transcript of the conversation.
Gary S: Hi, thank you for contacting Samsung Technical Support. How may I help you today?
Visitor: Hi, I was wondering if there are plans to have support for AllShare Cast on the Verizon Galaxy S3?
Gary S: May I place you on hold for 3 minutes while I work in this regards?
Visitor: sure
Gary S: Thank you for waiting. I'll be with you in just a moment.
Visitor: no problem
Gary S: I will be right with you.
Gary S: Thank you for being on hold.
Gary S: I'm sorry for the delay.
Visitor: no problem
Gary S: We do not support AllShare Cast.
Gary S: We only support AllShare feature on the device.
Visitor: So there are no plans to make it available like it is on the other S3 models?
Gary S: Yes.
Visitor: I know it is not currently supported, am wondering if it will ever be. I just purchased the AllShare Cast dongle and will need to return it if so
Gary S: I'm sorry about that,
Visitor: ok thank you
Gary S: You're welcome. Is there anything else I can assist you with?
Visitor: No that's it thank you
Gary S: I wish, I could have helped you in this regard. I'm sorry about that.
Visitor: That's ok, you answered the question. That's the best that could be done!

I just grabbed one of these AllShare Cast dongles last night on the Sammy website for 50% off deal...And I, too, have a VZW GS3, currently running Synergy...
So, still a no-go for everyone? Hopefully, soon, one of the mighty mighty devs around here will work it out!
(Fingers crossed)
What exactly is All-Share cast compared to All Share play? I have a WDTV Live device hooked up to my TV and when I'm connected to my home wifi I can stream anything on my GS3 to my WDTV.
For those that are able to connect and then drops out. If you have lockscreen unlock toggle set to unlock. Keeps lock screen disabled when screen off. Don't know if it works for Share Cast but does keep tether running full speed. When lock screen locks drops tether speed from 600kb/s to 10 kb/s. Would do same to Share Cast.

I believe, (someone correct me if I'm wrong) that Allshare Play uses the DLNA standard to share media over wi-fi whereas Allshare Cast uses wi-fi direct so it doesn't need to be connected to a wi-fi network and can basically mirror whatever is on your devices screen.
I noticed that the release notes for the new Sprint JB OTA mention Allshare Cast. I'm wondering if it will work for us if/when the devs port it. I'm going to hold out returning mine for now as I'm hopeful one of these awesome devs will figure it out.

Allshare cast is jellybean feature. Allshare cast is miracast. U ether need the Allshare cast dongle or widi 3.5 device. (Widi 3.5 now supports miracast) Allshare cast is WiFi alliance miracast certified. The only phones out now that is miracast capable is s3, note II, and the LG optimus G. If you already have a miracast capable tv like certain Samsungs wifi tv with miracast built in which they call Allshare cast than u use it without the Allshare cast dongle. Samsung dongle, built in miracast tv or widi 3.5 device will work

I was using Jellywiz RLS11 and yes I'm leaving it rooted. I am however having mixed results now. It worked great the other night, but now it's hit or miss. I'm not sure if the issue is with the ROM or the dongle.
I'll try to play around with it some more and see if there was anything particular that made it work. It doesn't appear to be so though... seems pretty random at this point.
---------- Post added at 07:07 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:50 PM ----------
Some more specifics:
The dongle and the phone are able to find each other no problem. They begin to connect and the phone will actually indicate that the connection is made. The dongle however will continue to indicate that it is connecting for a few more seconds. At this point it will either display my screen or fail altogether. If it fails the dongle will stop connecting and the phone will pop-up the message, "Current AllShare Cast connection will end".
I've noticed that it is more likely to succeed if I try it immediately after rebooting my phone, but that isn't a guarantee it will work either.
I was able to get the dongle to work today on synergy 4.1.1 r90...
But it was kinda finicky...I did have to reboot once due to that disconnecting message, but then worked again...

Just sent you a pm. I bought the Dongle today and I'm trying to avoid returning it. Did you use triangle away to get it to work? Also can you let us know exact steps? I'm on r90 synergy and it's not working for me.
Edit::: after some digging around I was able to connect to the Samsung allshare cast dongle on synergy r90. It wasn't connecting at first so I did some reading and decided to download triangle away and hit reset flash counter. I did that and tried connecting to the dongle and was able to connect quickly and watched a YouTube vid as well as browse the Web and mess around with some settings with no issues. Thank you to greevedog who verified it worked for him.

I'm glad you guys are able to get it to work. I'm still having no success at all, despite Triangle Away. Currently on Synergy R90 and continue to have it disconnect after trying to connect. Would those who have it working please post the firmware version of your dongle (it shows on the TV screen before you connect). Does anyone know if there's even a way to update the dongle's firmware?
Got it to work finally! The key for me seems to be rebooting the phone and dongle at same time. Reset button didn't cut it on dongle--had to unplug it and plug back in. Hopefully future updates will improve connection reliability, but nice to have it working.Once connected, it seems to stay that way and works well for everything except action games. There's a little too much lag for those.

which tab are you considering buying?. the wifi's only, well, you already know the answer. the ones you can make a call with which I am assuming are the one you are asking about can be used as a hotspot as per several verizon youtube video.
USB OTG is USB on the go. The ability to plug a USB flash drive or external hard drive in via a special cable.

In /mnt there are several mount pointes:

Verizon has no idea, neither does samsung. They act like I'm speaking chinese when I ask them. My company is considering buying all the field techs a tablet for work, but i has to have USB OTG, so I'm going to go to the VZW store tomorrow and try out a tab 2 10.1 and see if it recongnize it.
PS my xoom will, with the "stock" 4.0.4 firmware, however i has to be rooted and use "stickmount" by chainfire to get it to work.
This would seems to suggest it would, however the adapter doesn't mention the tab 2, only the tabs

If the tab 10.1 can support it I'm going to guess the tab 2 can as well. They only cost $2 so I may grab one myself, if it doesn't work I didn't lose anything

Hi guys, i wanna buy an used p6800 but for some reason it dosnt support any kind of simkards and i need to use 3G internet on that, is there any solution like using an external 3G dongle for using internet on that?
thanks...
If you have root, you can try PPP Widget. Just add it to your homescreen and give root access.
I personally haven't tried it because have no USB dongle.
Website and FAQ here : http://www.draisberghof.de/android/pppwidget.html
Download here : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.draisberghof.pppwidget
Although their website says Android 3.1 and up, during my kernel development I have seen gitHub source changes for PPP Widget support. The source could be for increasing USB power (edit : supply current mA) for the dongles to work from tab (properly) without an external supply. Can't remember.
Cheers,
UITA

Hmm... AFAIK, don't think installing PPP is enough to get 3G USB dongles working with Android if the kernel don't provide 3G USB dongles drivers... ^^
That was possible with the ASUS TF101 as a dev provided a 3G drivers pack for HC but can't remember if this pack is still compatible with ICS (compiled for NVidia Tegra 2 SOC)...
And why Samsung would do this with a device supposed to be 3G ready ???
Then, do you have experience in developing such drivers pack with no USB dongles to test on ???

Of course, let OP buy a 3G USB dongle he won't be able to use it as he won't find any driver and the such, making this USB dongle simply useless...
I guess if he buys a used P6800 with a failed internal 3G part it's because he doesn't have much money to waste.
I already know the literature about 3G USB dongle uses and no need to talk about the OTG capability of the P6800 and the "juice" this device is capable to deliver enough power for the USB dongle...
He will need an unlocked 3G USB dongle with a driver he will have to find and compiled by himself, a precompiled "option" module, a precompiled usb_modeswitch specifically for the Exynos with the big APN database (usb_modeswitch.conf or usb-modeswitch-versions.xml) unless he knows exactly what APN to enter, finally and probably a modified kernel AND a very good tutorial to teach him how to set all this up, including the AT commands and such !!!
And we don't even know if he needs CDMA or HSDPA version depending on the provider and the Sim Card he has or will have, nor in which countries he is living in... ^^
On the other hand I suggested a universal independent self powered 3G WiFi Hotspot Router he could use "out of the box" with any equipments such as smartphones, tablets, PC, for Android or Apple iOS, etc... for his past, present, or future uses...
For the literature about 3G USB dongle uses, start here (just for samples, but Google is your friend including XDA forums of course) :
http://freedune.wordpress.com/2011/06/23/success-with-usb-3g-modems-on-android/
and the well known draisberghof.de website (which also provide the PPP widget for Android), even though this is related to Linux, the principle is the same for Android as all tools have to be recomplied accordingly :
http://www.draisberghof.de/usb_modeswitch/
For the universal self-powered 3G WiFi Hotspot Router, there so many, starting from as low as $16 to over $200 (LTE version) depending of the quality, his needs and the money he can afford to pay for...
Just some suggestions as samples of what is existing on the market... I used Amazon.com to be simple and to offer an idea of what exists, but he may have to use his local retailer depending where OP is living... :
http://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Broa...5&sr=8-9&keywords=3G+WiFi+Router+hotspot+cdma
http://www.amazon.com/17597-Unlocke...&keywords=Huawei+E5331+3G+WiFi+Router+hotspot

http://www.amazon.com/Huawei-E589-Pocket-WiFi-Router/dp/B00ALSYTK8/ref=pd_sim_pc_5
Now, he can make his own decision with the good informations...
EDIT : forgot to mention : whether OP uses a 3G USB Dongle or a 3G WiFi Hotspot Router, he won't be able to place a phone call BUT just for Internet data access, unless stated otherwise... ^^

Hey all, Just got my LTE variant and have been fiddling around with it and have discovered some things. Wanted to post here and let people know what I've come across.
So far I have discovered:
-Gear works with Rooted Devices (at least with my Note 4)
-Samsung Pay from Gear works with Rooted Devices (Can't add my Discover Card yet, planned support for hopefully end of year)
-You DON'T have to use the default texting app in order to send/receive/reply to messages from the S3. So far, the apps I've found that support this are Google Hangouts, ChompSMS, Textra, and Google Messenger. It does have a few hangups though. This thread states the methods I used to achieve this and the hangups observed by doing this.
-You can control phone music from the s3, but cannot stream to it...yet.
-Gear seems to auto lock when removed from wrist. Unable to tell if it's based on the lack of heart beat or sense of movement. Not an issue, just making aware.
-Gear supports AOD (Always On Display). The type of display given is based on the watch face currently in use, so it would appear your watch face must have support for it otherwise it will default to a stock face (needs testing). Using AOD will shift pixels around to prevent burn in every time you go to wake the watch. Have lightly tested and can verify it shifts. Will be testing on my next charge cycle to test battery life and burn in potential (trying to test as much as I can within my 14 day period of which to exchange for another device (lemon law)
So far that's all I've come across and will update this page accordingly with more information. Please feel free to add yourself anything you have discovered so we can let the rest of our Gear toting brothers and sisters know these tips and tricks.

The Samsung Pay you use is a baked in app that is part of the Samsung Gear app. I have in installed on my rooted Nougat port on my HTC 10 and it works perfect. You don't need the official Samsung Pay app installed on the device at all. It seems as of now, that Samsung thinks the security on the watch is enough to allow you to use it side by side with a rooted phone. I hope it stays that way, because I have never been able to use Android pay because of the Root issue.

I have bought the Gear s3 and would like to connect with my Samsung A9 Pro (sm-A9100), however, when I checked the passkey for both sides, the s3 and a9 pro keep connecting but no further....
Does anyone has such situation? and what can I do....
ps. My A9 pro was rooted and some defaulted samsung app were forzened before.

Yes I did. However have been very busy since getting it and have not had time to update the thread. I've tested a few additional features and even a skin from Skinomi to protect the watch. When I have time tonight I will try to update what I can.
What I can say now, the watch feels a little lackluster, but since it's my first wearable, and it works for what I bought it for (messaging/calling, Samsung pay) it works great. But there are time I worry I'm not using it to its potential or it's just in its baby phases and doesn't have many apps yet.

I just picked mine up a few days ago a and that sums up my feelings also. It's my first smartwatch and I've been wondering if I'm using it's full potential. I haven't been thrilled with the battery life but I have been playing around with it a lot and have only charged it a couple of times. Hopefully that will improve when I finally decide on a watch face that I can live with, I think I've changed the face a couple of hundred times.
Samsung Pay is available on S3, the only difference is that if you bought the BT version, it'll requires that you have the phone nearby for the 4GLTE to make the payment or such. If you have the LTE model and uses that, then you should be fine.

Correction, BT version can do 10 transactions without the phone nearby for Samsung Pay. After that, you need to sync with the phone to get another 10.
