So far I've had no success with Synergy R73, JellyWiz, or stock odexed roms. I used Triangle Away with all of them, but no go. Synergy R73 (ICS) and stock ICS will connect via "Wifi Direct" in the settings, but the necessary "Allshare Cast" in the settings is missing, so even though I'm technically connected, nothing happens on the TV screen. JellyWiz has Allshare Cast in the settings, but it won't even recognize the dongle when it scans for it.
Has anyone with a Verizon SG3 gotten the dongle to work? If so, what rom and what's the secret?
Got a bit closer with Synergy JB Beta. It will recognize the dongle and connect, but always disconnects 10 seconds later. Frustrating that they're now selling an $80 device that doesn't seem to work with Verizon roms, but is marketed as working on the Verizon SG3.

I'm in the same boat. I can't find a VZW ROM that works. Jellywiz latest connects but disconnects in 10 secs. What us up with VZW siii that it would not be available? Might this have anything to do with VZW locking down the boot loader? Also based on the product availability it says it only works for sprint and t mobile versions not art or Verizon. Odd.
I was going to purchase this device, but instead opted not to because I wasn't sure if it would work with our vzw gs3. Interestingly though, on Samsung's website it indicates:
== ==
AllShare Cast Wireless Hub
**Compatible with the Samsung Galaxy S III (T-Mobile and Sprint), Galaxy Note II and Galaxy Note 10.1.
Compatibility may require the latest software update. To verify your device is compatible go into Wireless and Network Settings and verify that AllShare Cast is present in your menu options.
== ==
I don't see that option under my 'wireless and network settings'.
Like you, I wonder why not? This is really mind boggling.
*Hmmmmm*

Tried it on 7 roms so far. Stock rom is ICS, which doesn't have Allshare Cast in Settings, so that's a no go.
Has anyone had any luck with this? I also just purchased the dongle but am wondering if I should return it unopened.
Just for kicks I contacted Samsung support to see if they have any plans to support AllShare Cast in future updates. It does not appear to be so. Here is a transcript of the conversation.
Gary S: Hi, thank you for contacting Samsung Technical Support. How may I help you today?
Visitor: Hi, I was wondering if there are plans to have support for AllShare Cast on the Verizon Galaxy S3?
Gary S: May I place you on hold for 3 minutes while I work in this regards?
Visitor: sure
Gary S: Thank you for waiting. I'll be with you in just a moment.
Visitor: no problem
Gary S: I will be right with you.
Gary S: Thank you for being on hold.
Gary S: I'm sorry for the delay.
Visitor: no problem
Gary S: We do not support AllShare Cast.
Gary S: We only support AllShare feature on the device.
Visitor: So there are no plans to make it available like it is on the other S3 models?
Gary S: Yes.
Visitor: I know it is not currently supported, am wondering if it will ever be. I just purchased the AllShare Cast dongle and will need to return it if so
Gary S: I'm sorry about that,
Visitor: ok thank you
Gary S: You're welcome. Is there anything else I can assist you with?
Visitor: No that's it thank you
Gary S: I wish, I could have helped you in this regard. I'm sorry about that.
Visitor: That's ok, you answered the question. That's the best that could be done!

I just grabbed one of these AllShare Cast dongles last night on the Sammy website for 50% off deal...And I, too, have a VZW GS3, currently running Synergy...
So, still a no-go for everyone? Hopefully, soon, one of the mighty mighty devs around here will work it out!
(Fingers crossed)
What exactly is All-Share cast compared to All Share play? I have a WDTV Live device hooked up to my TV and when I'm connected to my home wifi I can stream anything on my GS3 to my WDTV.
For those that are able to connect and then drops out. If you have lockscreen unlock toggle set to unlock. Keeps lock screen disabled when screen off. Don't know if it works for Share Cast but does keep tether running full speed. When lock screen locks drops tether speed from 600kb/s to 10 kb/s. Would do same to Share Cast.

I believe, (someone correct me if I'm wrong) that Allshare Play uses the DLNA standard to share media over wi-fi whereas Allshare Cast uses wi-fi direct so it doesn't need to be connected to a wi-fi network and can basically mirror whatever is on your devices screen.
I noticed that the release notes for the new Sprint JB OTA mention Allshare Cast. I'm wondering if it will work for us if/when the devs port it. I'm going to hold out returning mine for now as I'm hopeful one of these awesome devs will figure it out.

Allshare cast is jellybean feature. Allshare cast is miracast. U ether need the Allshare cast dongle or widi 3.5 device. (Widi 3.5 now supports miracast) Allshare cast is WiFi alliance miracast certified. The only phones out now that is miracast capable is s3, note II, and the LG optimus G. If you already have a miracast capable tv like certain Samsungs wifi tv with miracast built in which they call Allshare cast than u use it without the Allshare cast dongle. Samsung dongle, built in miracast tv or widi 3.5 device will work

AllShare Cast works on the new leaked Verizon JB ROM!
If you have any issues getting it to work, use Triangle Away to reset your flash counter, reboot then profit.

Not working on the new Synergy rom, which is based on the new JB leak. Did Triangle Away. I guess I'll try a different version of the leak.

I was using Jellywiz RLS11 and yes I'm leaving it rooted. I am however having mixed results now. It worked great the other night, but now it's hit or miss. I'm not sure if the issue is with the ROM or the dongle.
I'll try to play around with it some more and see if there was anything particular that made it work. It doesn't appear to be so though... seems pretty random at this point.
---------- Post added at 07:07 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:50 PM ----------
Some more specifics:
The dongle and the phone are able to find each other no problem. They begin to connect and the phone will actually indicate that the connection is made. The dongle however will continue to indicate that it is connecting for a few more seconds. At this point it will either display my screen or fail altogether. If it fails the dongle will stop connecting and the phone will pop-up the message, "Current AllShare Cast connection will end".
I've noticed that it is more likely to succeed if I try it immediately after rebooting my phone, but that isn't a guarantee it will work either.
I was able to get the dongle to work today on synergy 4.1.1 r90...
But it was kinda finicky...I did have to reboot once due to that disconnecting message, but then worked again...

Just sent you a pm. I bought the Dongle today and I'm trying to avoid returning it. Did you use triangle away to get it to work? Also can you let us know exact steps? I'm on r90 synergy and it's not working for me.
Edit::: after some digging around I was able to connect to the Samsung allshare cast dongle on synergy r90. It wasn't connecting at first so I did some reading and decided to download triangle away and hit reset flash counter. I did that and tried connecting to the dongle and was able to connect quickly and watched a YouTube vid as well as browse the Web and mess around with some settings with no issues. Thank you to greevedog who verified it worked for him.
I have a pioneer appradio 2 that I'm going to try this out on cause I keep having major snow issues with the mhl adapter 5 pin to 11 from Samsung. Hopefully it does the trick and audio doesn't sound too bad.

I'm glad you guys are able to get it to work. I'm still having no success at all, despite Triangle Away. Currently on Synergy R90 and continue to have it disconnect after trying to connect. Would those who have it working please post the firmware version of your dongle (it shows on the TV screen before you connect). Does anyone know if there's even a way to update the dongle's firmware?
Got it to work finally! The key for me seems to be rebooting the phone and dongle at same time. Reset button didn't cut it on dongle--had to unplug it and plug back in. Hopefully future updates will improve connection reliability, but nice to have it working.Once connected, it seems to stay that way and works well for everything except action games. There's a little too much lag for those.

Voila! You have infrastructure mode tethering, instead of adhoc which is the usual deal. THis is important to folks like me, who run honeycomb tablets like my Asus Transformer, or the Xoom, and need infrastructure wireless networks to tether to.
edit: updated new tether app.
I use wireles tether and it works fine for me its adhoc and I posted it somewherr in here hang on.

I came from the Droid, and the Droid 2, where I coulld tether via bluetooth, however this is not the case with the Charge. I'm sure that the only reason we havent got an infrastructure mode available yet is because its stilll available for free through the stock app, but is anyone working on this currently? Its an issue we will all have to face at some point... I'd rather do it sooner rather than later.
And before anyone asks, I have tried the wireless tether 3.0 pre14 apk set for the Fascinate. It doesn't work, just sits at "Please wait while starting..." forever...

I will say this though, there is no need for infrastructure mode, if you just root your asus transformer with the new Prime 1.5 ROM and kernel, and also have your charge rooted. I'm using the gummycharged rom on my phone. Its unbelievably fast and very stable.

I'm new and can't post links, but google "android wifi tether" and you will find the google code host with the app.
Newer 3.0 version was released and the older one was removed. Steps still work on Beta1 release. Thanks OP!
Don't enable access control, it doesn't work and it bugs out the program and only way I could get devices to connect again was to clear data in app manager and redo my settings at next relaunch.
If you change the date temporarily back to may sometime to get the stock app to open, adjust your settings as needed. Change the date back to auto and download elixr from the market. Create a 1x1 widget, tap the x, select wireless ap, and create.....watch the magic happen and as far as I know its infrastructure.

You can do that Airsushi. It wont be perfect though. I am running an Asus Transformer that runs Android 3.1, and I rooted it and installed the patch to see ad-hoc. Now I use the standard tethering and have no issues with tethering. Its much more stable than trying to use infastructure mode on the charge.
But for ease, this method is much less complicated. but less stable.
Thanks op. Works great

Just worked it out today. And only found out when things from my pc started to pop up on my phone and note. Then sent back. If a dummy like me can do that anyone should be capable.
I got the dongle a couple of weeks ago. Most of the time it links up easy, sometimes it's a bear. You have to follow the instructions to the letter to get it to work. If it doesn't link up, unplug it from power and HDMI and let it sit a few minutes. Then try again following the instructions precisely.
It works pretty well when linked up. The video and audio are about 400 ms out of sync unless you use the stock video player. It must automatically correct for the lag. So yeah, Netflix and similar services play with the audio out of sync. Also, audio does not play unless it is part of a video stream. I had planned to use it to play music through my AV receiver, but no such luck. Too bad, it would be a killer app for that.

Really. I wonder why mine isn't syncing? Maybe it's the actual content. Could you tell me what specific show you've played on Netflix that played in sync? Also, do you know what version of Netflix you have? What model Note you have and what Rom? I'm using an 8013 with the latest stock rom... One other thing, could you try playing "Rules Of Engagement" and seeing how that works? Maybe a link to modded Hulu?
Thanks!!! Maybe we can work out what's going on.

Yes, Allshare Cast is still in Jelly Bean.
Not only is it still there, but is moved to the power toggles in the status bar with the things like wifi and bluetooth. It works great!! You'll love it!
Also, if it doesn't work right away and after all the other troubleshooting, as a last resort might need to use triangle away if you do a lot of flashing and stuff.

You need to use triangle away to reset the flash counter back to zero. Allshare won't work with a flash counter set to 1 or above.
It also doesn't like the system files to be anything but "Official". This is found when you go to D\L mode. Hold down volume and power to get there.
Running triangleaway should get you back to 0 flash count but you may need to re-install the stock recovery too.
If you rooted using exynos exploit that opens a who;e new can of worms....

Thanks a lot guys from replies, triangle away solved the problem. :good::cyclops:
I've searched, and found decent hits, but I have not found anything recent telling whether or not my S3 can output via MHL to HDMI.
I have an aftermarket dock that is "supposed" to work with the S3, but so far, nothing. The screen blanks when I plug in, but no video appears. So, the monitor is getting some kind of input, but not the correct input. Are there specific ROMs these days (late 2013) that specifically DO or DO NOT offer MHL capability? Are they 4.2.1, 4.2.2 or 4.3 specific? As I type this, I am installing CleanROM. I tried HALO (non TW), and BoneStock but no joy. I read on several posts that TouchWiz is needed so I am concentrating on that for now.
Thank you!
Found my answer. My dock was defective! CleanROM works great and I suspect the others may too. When I get the new dock, I'll try them out.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but adapter are you using? Does it still work? I'm currently searching for an adapter for my S3.
The dock does not work for the S3. The retail dock does of course. I've since swapped phones to a Note 3 and that one DOES work with the dock. I know you can use the red MHL cable with the S3 successfully., if that helps.

I have been using Miracast for years with my previous Android phones while traveling in hotels, etc. I love that it doesn't require a wifi connection and I can still screencast whatever is on my phone to my TV. I've been reading that Google is blocking miracast on the Pixel phones so you have to use Chromecast but it doesn't have the same functionality of being able to connect using wifi-direct. Does anyone know of a way to connect my Pixel to miracast? I've read that I will need to root my phone, most of the instructions I've seen have been pretty complicated and I don't want to risk voiding my warranty.
Any help out there?
Thanks in advance,
Augie
Interested in an answer to this as well. Is it just a build prop edit like in models past? Can't find anything definitive.
I'm looking for an option to get Miracast to work without rooting as well on my Pixel 2XL. Actually, my issue is I do not have WiFi and I need a way to project my phone screen onto my TV. Apparently there is no way to hardwire and after buying a Chromecast, I found out it will not work using the hotspot from my phone. I need WiFi... Which I don't have. Any recs?
Also interested in finding a solution to mirror the Pixel 2 using Miracast.
Worked perfect with my S7 Edge and a Miracast receiver.
Pixel 2 and Chromecast not only requires a router, which I hate, but mirroring videos are very laggy/choppy.
In my experience, without root the most effective app for my Samsung smart TVs has been AllCast. It's not great, but it has worked.

NOT WITHOUT AN INDEPENDENT WIFI connection. Chromecast has to be using wifi, you cannot hotspot from your phone to chromecast AND use chromecast. Your phone and Chromecast have to be connected to a different wifi network, not the hotspot. So no, you are incorrect.

Not sure why you say that, I use my hotspot to Chromecast every day. Now, you NEED a second device to get set up but once you do, you can use the hotspot.

OK. What if we're not trying to cast to a TV? What if we have a device in our car that ONLY supports Miracast? How do we connect our Pixel 2 phone to a device where Miracast is the ONLY option and we don't want to root the phone? Anything more helpful than unhelpful people saying "use Chromecast" and not actually answering the question this entire thread is based off of?

Similar issue, as my portable pico projector requires Miracast...
Has anyone figured out a way to enable screen mirroring on the pixel 2? I understand there have been methods in the past regarding the build prop file.
Looking to mirroring via a wire or even WiFi direct rather than Chromecast.
Feedback is appreciated!

This question has been asked a couple of times... I think I've posed the question to a couple of peeps. Originally I thought this was a hardware restriction, but seen that one individual stated that it was working on a Pixel ROM https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=74365223&postcount=4 It's possible that when the ROM was ported over, the settings necessary came over with it. I haven't gotten too much deeper than this, but certainly would like this feature as well.
As far as Google sales Chromecasts, we won't get Miracast. It's business... It's the same for MHL, as far as Google sales Android auto, we won't get MHL support to use with some Head Units... Or at least we won't get it without root

Miracast is not set up on the Pixel 2. Myself? Personally? I do not have Wi-Fi, my only source of internet in my household is using my phones hotspot. Until the Pixel 2, I've gotten around carrier hot spot data limits by Miracasting whatever is on my phone screen, ie. Netflix to my smart TV, data shows up as my normal data, hotspot is reserved for actual hot spot needs etc. Unfortunately Pixel 2 does not have the ability to Miracast. Whatever transmission tech is needed for Miracast to project from the Pixel 2 has been deliberately left out by Google in order to boost Chromecast sales. And unfortunately, Chromecast will not use my Pixel 2's hot spot to both set itself up and receive data from my Pixel, my phone and the chromecast have to be connected to a Wi-Fi network, not my hotspot. Oh, and Google has also disabled the ability to share your screen via cables plugged into a tv/laptop as well. It's chromecast or nothing. But if you want to complain to Google with me or start a petition or something, I'm down. This is painful

I'd love to complain to them. I'm just not sure who would listen. Seems unfair to other products though that they stripped out Miracast in favor of their own devices....
Actually read that dealing with chromecast side of things was actually easier to bypass than doing the whole phone root which I'm not interested in or confident enough to do. Let me think about this. This issue is common in a lot of forums. And it's not cool Google took a tech on most phones and previous versions of the Pixel itself to pigeonhole consumers into buying their Chromecast. Don't companies get sued for this type of crap? Not saying Miracast is worth a lawsuit, but isn't this playing a bit dirty?

So far, 2 ROMS that I have tried on the original google pixel has Miracast enabled. I've successfully connected to my Roku3 on both...
Good news! Yes, it's lame, no time as good as I hoped, but I found a semi-solution. My original issue, I do not have WiFi only my phones hotspot. I need to screen mirror so I can pretend I have TV. Pixel 2 does not have the Hardware to transmit wireless HD aka screen mirroring. The only way to pull this off, unfortunately, is with a Chromecast. However, chromecast no longer let's you use your phone as the wifi network (via hotspot) to **set it up the FIRST time**. It won't connect to the same phone where the wifi is coming from. Sooo... I had to hotspot my Pixel 2 to an old phone, my sprint Note. The Note connected to the hotspot from the PIXEL, I downloaded Google Home on the N4 and connected to CHROMECAST. I had to use the Note 4 to set up the chromecast to recognize the hotspot from the pixel. Then I disconnected the note 4, and started using my Pixel. As long as my hotspot from the pixel is one, Chromecast will connect and use it. HOWEVER.... I cannot screen cast from the pixel to the chromecast. I cannot mirror my screen. Only time that worked was when I had it set up backwards where the Sprint Note 4 was the hotspot. This has been a lot of ****ing work. I just wanted to avoid going against my hotspot limit. Apparently that's not going to happen. But, at least I'm able to get my phone connected to my TV again. That's refreshing. Even if it uses my data.

That was me, now I'm at it again. I actually sold the first Pixel because the roms that allowed for Miracast had other, deal-breaking bugs. I picked up a Pixel 2, and love the phone, but I have three criteria that are non starters for me, phone wise:
*Locked bootloader - not an issue with the P2
*VOLTE on Tmobile - not an issue with the P2
*Miracast - not available on the P2
I can confirm that on the stock rom, the build.prop edit does not actually enable functioning Miracast. If I can't find a working rom, I will sell the phone. If anyone has any info, please share.
Just an aside - please stop suggesting Chromecast as an alternative. Everyone on xda knows about this device and it's ability to mirror the phone's screen. If we're asking about Miracast, we need Miracast.
