[Q] Android Tablet Case Cover Keyboard for Touchpad?? - TouchPad Accessories

Hey,
I was wondering if anyone has tried this 9.7 android tablet keyboard with micro usb plug for the HP Touchpad.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Black-9...es_Covers_Keyboard_Folios&hash=item3a7d1f7671

Looks like it would fit or could be adjusted to fit the TouchPad (but remember the back of the TP has a bit of a curve, so it might wobble), but not entirely sure what benefit connecting via the USB connection. it didn't say the keyboard is bluetooth,
I think I will stick with my Acase and HP bluetooth keyboard.

Ok. I see what your saying as far as it not being bluetooth. I was thinking that the keyboard would work by inserting the micro usb plug into the touchpad.

Do you know any self made solutions of an Android Tablet and a keyboard?
Something like the Asus Transformer, but self made.
I will weaken my question.
Does anybody work with a tablet and a (real) keyboard?
How are these things transported?
I have the Motorola xoom tablet, and a USB keyboard. I went over to best buy and picked up a handy device that makes your xoom have the ability to become a USB host. Simply plug the keyboard into this device and your tablet has a functioning keyboard. Another method that is nicer but about $20 more is a Bluetooth keyboard. This should work for almost any Bluetooth device. Simply pair it to your tablet or phone and you have a full wireless keyboard.

TF700 without keyboard and USB device

Hi all,
Looking To Buy Asus Transformer Infinity TF700 without keyboard, i have few questions.
How can i connect usb disk (or usb memory key) on TF700 ?
Using "usb female to usb female adaptor" can work for connecting usb drive on Usb dock cable of TF700 (without dock) ?
Thanks.
There's this asus thing on amazon for some money that converts the bottom proprietary port into a USB port. From there you could (possibly) attach a USB hub or whatever for your needs.
I got b& at /g/ for sh!tposting ;_;

that's right, it's called an usb kit but i'm not sure if it works for the tf700 since it says "ASUS USB Kit for Eee Pad Transformer TF101, TF101G, TF201 & TF300 Tablets"
You can get the USB adapter for like $30 (works on the 700), or you can go to best buy and get the tf201 dock (that works perfectly on the 700) for $99. IMHO, the dock is the way to go...
Currently, I have both the TF201 dock (best buy $99) and an Asus USB kit (amazon $17) and am glad to have both. The USB kit works but seems to easily come loose, which is horrible for hard drives.

You could also buy a micro sd card and plug that into a cheap $3 usb adapter. eg: http://www.dealextreme.com/c/card-readers-300
Thats how I've been loading up my micro sd cards with ebooks and movies.
I asked earlier on the forum about pluging in my usb external 2tb drive to the tablet 40 pin via a usb adapter but was told that might be a no go due to lack of android drivers. Has anyone attempted it? I'd be curious to see if it could somehow work.

I just plugged a Seagate 2TB external hard drive into the USB adapter and it came up and is working. Movies play, music plays, pictures, etc.
According to you will it be possibile in a future (maybe with an hack) to connect in this female usb port an usb stick modem with sim card?
Go with the dock.

Wicked! :good: Wait do you mean via tablet 40pin usb or do you mean usb via the dock.
Asus drives me nutz with this idiot connector deal.
It's horsepoop if you ask me.
Even them Samsing tabs with their weird plugins have connector options available locally.
Asus = nope...uh-uh...sorry...no deal my man...your stuck buying our big ole' huge massive goofy interface clunker unit thingy!
I find this irritating.

A little more testing and perhaps better wording:
The 2TB hard drive worked via the tablet's 40 pin input (the one on the bottom that you usually charge from) using the USB adapter.
The 2TB hard drive worked via the dock's USB input.
Nothing worked when I plugged the USB adapter into the dock's 40pin input.
I hope this helps. I have other external hard drives I can test. 500GB - 2TB, Western Digital, Seagate, Toshiba, a few are USB 3.0, most are USB 2.0.
FWIW, like others, I would highly recommend the dock, especially @ $99. I didn't think I needed it, felt it defeated the idea of a tablet, and had the TF Prime for months without it, but when it went up for $99 @ BB I pulled the trigger on it and I have been pretty amazed at how much I like having available. I use it all the time. It adds a lot of value to the TFs. The fact that I could upgrade to the TF700 and keep it was awesome, I'm not sure I would want a tablet that didn't have something similar going forward.
I got the Infinity without the keyboard as well. I actually already had a portable blue tooth keyboard, which is the Freedom Pro Keyboard. You can pick up on the net from $50 to $100. Amazon link
It's not going to have all the integration of the dock or anything. But I can use it on multiple devices since it has both the HID and SSP blue tooth protocols. I've used it both on my Evo 4G and the Infinity and works like a champ. It does use two AAA batteries. But in the months I've had it, I've only changed them once, and I think I left it on for about three or four days before I discovered it one time.
The thing the dock has that you may want, more battery life, USB ports, and SD card slot. In theory, would could type with it in bed or something too, although I've heard you'll want a flatter surface. It's a pretty nice looking dock and all. But I just didn't see what big benefit it would give me compared to what I had, other than battery life.
I did write on the Freedom Pro Keyboard from when I got it (Link to another forum). It gives my opinion and observations.
I tried to connect a Logitech K400 wirelesse keyboard with no success. I bought a female-female usb adapter and plugged it at my ASUS usb docking cable. The RF receiver isn't recognized and the keyboard can't be used.
WTF ASUS is forcing to use expensive accessory, e.g. dock by 150 € or usb adpter by 30€? Today I'll try the K400 at my sister-in-law's Acer A700 tablet. If it works she can have the keyboard.
Does anyone try another 3rd USB adapter acccessory with things like webcam or keyboard?
I have a little HP bluetooth keyboard that pairs to tf700t pretty well .... it messes up sometimes.
Sort of saved me from buying the dock.
Wish I had a bluetooth mouse tho...
I agree about the Asus pain in the ass 40 pin connector.

I'm not that surprise this isn't working. One, the keyboard is not blue tooth, which you know. Two, you need drivers to work the unifying usb receiver. I would be surprised if Android had the drivers. Didn't you notice when you plugged into your PC, WIndows or OSX downloaded drivers to install?
To your point, no you don't have buy the ASUS keyboard dock for $150EU/US. If don't mind it not matching, from what has been explored in other threads, the Transformer Prime (TF200) dock is the same, and can be found for around $100EU/US. But since you're you were trying to use something else, there are a plenty of other blue tooth keyboards that can be used. You're looking for one with the HID protocol. Although, you can probably use the SPP, but you'll probably need to make sure you get the drivers somewhere.
I suspect you're looking for that wireless to be able to use with it. I only briefly explored it for use with my phone. You'll have to search and research. There may be something. Personally, it wasn't a must have. Since I'm right next to the tablet, I can just touch the screen just as easily. Other than a few games on OnLive, I can think of what it can do better than my finger on the tablet. Plus, I think the cost will be the same after both the keyboard and mouse/touch pad.
I guess the question for you, not so much is ASUS keyboard dock is pricey, but can you do what you plan with something else. And is the cost of whatever you get, worth the benefit derived.

[Q] Is it possible to connect USB-Stick and HDMI at the same time? (eg. dock)

Hi,
often I want to sort my videos recorded by the PVR with my Tablet (ed.: Easier seek and rename)
and watch it also on my big TV via HDMI (less complicated atm then to stream it).
So I need the USB-Stick connected to it and the HDMI, too.
Is there some kind of adapter providing this with the SGN10.1 ?
Regards
Splotz
Not possible ?
ed.:
I found the pinout of the SGT10.1.
edit: Its SGT 7", but maybe the same pinout
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14612129
Looks like it could be possible to use "all" things..
Hope there will come a dock or keyboard dock to use it like a full port netbook.
Or is there already a multimedia dock available ?
Don't think so.
Something like that for the Note 10.1... wanna have...
http://www.pocketables.com/2010/08/dell-streaks-proprietary-connector-is-actually-pdmi.html
(these pins are different, but it should be easy to build something similiar if samsung did not "lock it down" in some way)
ed.:
Here is something about how to build your own cables.

The only thing I really liked about asus TF300 was the ability to easily connect usb hdd (even ntfs) to the dock while it was connected to TV through micro-hdmi. I set up a bluetooth keyboard and mouse and managing the tablet on the tv was a peace of cake. But I returned it because the performance sucks on TF300. I really wish there were some similar dock for the note tab too.

I think the Note can connect to the allshare cast dongle with is wireless mirroring. To basically the same thing. Or if you have a newer Samsung tv it connects wirelessly. to it as well.
Not sure if you can connect a usb hdd to the Note though through the usb connector.

Thx, thats true.
But I am looking for hardware connectors for HDMI, USB, Charging and Audio at the same time. Like a "real" Multimedia Docking Station / Cable.
Usable everywhere with HDMI TVs, etc...
(Maybe the SGN10.1 has also analog TV+Audio out as I saw some adapters for Galaxy Tab with these connectors)
Soo, it's half a year later... I'm looking for the same solution as the OP... I want to be able to connect my Note to a HDMI monitor, then have at least 2 usb ports (mouse and keyboard, third one would be nice) and be able to charge it at the same time. I'm looking online for a cable that would allow that but it seems impossible. Is there any hope for Note to be an interactive center?
There is one solution though... I could buy the wireless hdmi dongle, then bluetooth mouse and keyboard (does Note support 2 devices through BT at the same time?) and thus leave the charging port free but that's not so good option considering that I wouldn't be able to plug even USB stick through such setting. Still, that would cost a lot more than I'm willing to pay for it since I don't have BT keyboard nor mouse and the wifi gadget is too expensive if you ask me.
hdmi and usb at same time?
the diagam posted under 'build your own cables' shows all the connections on the 30 pin connector, but doesnt yet show which wires hook to an hdmi cable, or how to hook up hdmi.
further confusing is the fact that none of the labels for the pins on the samsung connector match any of the signals listed in the hdmi Wiki page.
would someone who has opened an hdmi adapter or dock please post wiring info for an hdmi hookup?
please? or perhaps high res photos of both sides of a dock connector board?

[Q] usb keyboard on mini usb

I know the eee pad has its own keyboard attachment but I'm not referring to that here.
Basically what I want to know is does a mini USB keyboard work on this tablet?
I already have a case for a 10 inch tablet with a keyboard used on a cheap tablet but I was thinking about getting one of these but part of the influence to get one is that my current keyboard would work in the mini USB slot.
Can anyone help?
I don't want to fork out for another accessory and I realise the Asus keyboard is better but I can't afford it at the moment.
Any USB keyboard should work, but you need to have the USB host adapter (not the charging cable) or a keyboard dock.

[Q] Samsung smart dock doesn't fully work on s4,Has anyone encounter issues using it?

Hi all
I recently bought samsung galaxy smart dock from aliexpress it was available for $ 35 dollars at the time of purchase.Basically It was samsung smart dock for note 2.On description it was mentioned that it would work with s4 and note 3.I tried using dock on galaxy s4 I9505 but none of the usb ports are working, tried many usb, mouse, keyboard none of them work.I have been experimenting with the dock but only hdmi is working. The phone recognises the dock and when connected it switches to dock mode but doesn't responds to any usb device. Have tried changing data cables and chargers and still not working.
Am I missing any stepstep in using dock,Is smart dock faulty or is this fake smart dock?
I have attached the picture of the dock.
I'm having problems too.
The HDMI on mine works but if I plug anything in the USB ports then the HDMI will flash on and off. If I use mine with mouse and keyboard plugged in but use the screen on the phone (nothing plugged in to HDMI) they work fine. Not sure what to do. It is as if there is not enough power to run all of it.
I have a smart dock and ran into the same trouble. I found that if i plugged in the USB devices before I docked the phone the usb would work great. I have tried a USB keyboard with additional USB ports, a USB mouse, and a wireless USB keyboard/touchpad combo. All have worked fine. I hope this helps.
Hello. I have those... my s4 no charging. Everytin is ok. But not chargin very well

Use geninue samsung charger of 2000 ma. Either the one that was supplied by the phone or the one that came with the smart dock.Try changing data cables.Samsung data cables are little thicker than ordinary cables.
The problem with my smart dock was that it had one broken pin of front connector, that pin was bend when I inspected closely . So I bought another one and all usb, hdmi and charging function is working at same time.I tested using usb 4 gb,keyboard and mouse. Then I plugged speakers and connected to tv .All function were working.:

The problem with my smart dock was that it had one broken pin of front connector, that pin was bend when I inspected closely . So I bought another smart dock and all usb, hdmi and charging function is working at same time. The dock works no matter in which order you use it.I found on the new one that you can plug keyboard, mouse or any usb product before of after putting phone, all works flawlessly.
I had a Smart Dock a while ago and had to return it because after some minor issues with the device not charging, hdmi not working... that usually only needed reconnecting it stopped working, and that happened after having used it few times, I have the feeling they have low build quality. I suggest you try to return it and get other solution.
I got refund from the seller on aliexpress.I came to know that smart dock was itself faulty and it was a copy of original galaxy smart dock.
The connector pin that was bended inwards and was not broken I fixed it later by adjusting the pin with needle and came to know it was not only the issue.I came to kow that if any pin is broken inside connector,Phone will never recognize the dock.In my case phone was recognizing the dock just the dock itself was not responding to any usb device.
The smart dock still then didn't worked although my phone goes to dock mode when connected.Only hdmi and charging works.I returned the product. and bought another one from ebay which is working flawlessly now
I have this dock, I actually bought it from Samsung.com and for some odd reason ended up paying a total of $175usd for it ._.
(original price was $100, shipping ended up as another $30, and then it was wrongfully seized by costumes which nothing short of demanded $45usd or else they confiscate it, I could appeal but that would take ~six months and ... I will face storage charges meanwhile...... which is complete BS.)
As for its functionality:
This thing, on my i9505 works like charm, no need to do any sort of voodoo like putting the USB devices before plugging the device, I simply plug anything I want in any order I want, external 2TB HD? no problems, Logitech G500 mouse? yep, a Filco USB keyboard? aha, 48" SmartTV ? yep.
Everything works, the device "kicks in" some kind of "docking station mode" and everything works from there.
However: this "docking station mode" cannot be avoided or escaped and only apps that show up in it work (stock browser\gallery\mp3\calendar\alarm clock) .. and it works with a small delay, like as if the mouse sits behind a time delay of ~200ms, you know, just slightly faster than 1\4 of a second, same goes for the keyboard, video however plays at the same time was on the phone but UI animations are slightly slowed (both on phone and external display)
This delay is making the overall expriance to be very bad, I can only imagine that the note 2\s3 must feel even slower.
I also have the other simpler adapter that only goes to the power adapter\HDMI (Samsung's as well, from another order, originally bought it for my old n7000\note 1), with that thing the UI is just as slow, everything works essentially the same... video plays wihout issues ETC
What I found out is that with the dock station you cant use any micro-usb extension cable (so that .. the S4 could be used with an extended battery case [or just any non generic thick case]) but with the HDMI adapter it does work (also the female USB adapter, the one that allows you to plug a single device such as thumb-drive\mouse\keyboard - does work with extended micro usb cable)
And last observation:
When using the Sony Expria Z3 Compact (comes with Snapdragon 801) with the Samsung HDMI adapter... it works PERFECTLY, super fast, no delays, UI smooth, and all apps (Everything, really) is accessible... even Blizzard's new Android Hearthstone game... everything, meanwhile the S4 is sluggish as hell and super unfun to use :\
Oh and no phone other than Samsung's works on the docking station, not even old Samsung note 1 (tried nexus 5, lg g2, lg g3, galaxy s1, expria z3 compact, galaxy s2 - only the S4 worked with the dock)

??? Settings>My Device>Accessories to turn off the 'docking mode'
Animations can be a bit sluggish because it's running at 30hz not 60hz like the standalone MHL 2.0 HDMI cable does. Samsung never released an updated version of this dock so I can only assume it wasn't a big hit. (And probably this is one of the reasons! Lack of a landscape support in the touchwiz launcher was a bit of a thumbs down aswell)
I had some problems with HDMI output after a while and initially thought the dock at fault but replacing the usb port in my S4 solved all problems. After about a year of use, dust and grime and crap tends to mess them up. Had the same situation with the S2. Gone past the 2 year point now with my S4, so probably due to replace the port again.
Having a mouse and keyboard plugged in, automatically turns off the device screen, but the touch stills work if you need to do a 'pinch' gesture or similar.
Any full sized S or Note phone after the S3/Note 2 should be compatible with this dock. I had it work for S3 and 4 and Note 2. Not had any others to try them out though. The Note 1 and S2 are only MHL 1.0 so they don't work and I've tried the S4 mini, it won't actually fit, the port on the phone is a slightly different shape (?!)

Thanks for the explanation and feedback Dave =),
The S5 works just the same as an S4, the S4 Active with its inferior specification surprisingly works exactly the same too, furthermore I even tried two other flavors of the S4 (the Verizon version, the 9505 and the 9500) all operates the same.
However, the S6 does not work at all with the dock, regardless of my efforts.
Additionally, during my attempts I found out that if you use a micro USB extension cable (mine was only 2" in length) the dock wouldn't work, I tried using it so I could have the phone laying flat on a table instead of sitting inside the dock (reason was actually due to having an extended 7k battery on one of the above S4s and didn't want to remove it just to fit the phone in the dock ... ended up having to do so as ..... yeah, extension cable = not even charging from the dock)
Oh and with all of the devices that I used with the dock: their screen remind turned on and was displaying a mirror view of the external HDMI screen, unlike what you reported (touch working and no visual cue?)
In my opinion this device, the dock station, is almost as big of a fail as Samsung's wireless keyboard for their SmartTV line ... that doesn't (don't laugh) actually support any of their smart TVs (and does work on any BT enabled android/IOS/windows/linux device, just not on their own TVs despite actually having all the special buttons of their remotes) beyond that point, there's the fact that the keyboard's integrated touchpad is complete garbage (unlike say... Logitech's wireless keyboard's touchpad ...)
Use it correctly...
i have the same dock and all ports work fine. you only have to connect the the charger IN THE PORT and THEN insert the HDMI or USB.
