I made the mistake of not meeting at the Verizon store and bought a Galaxy S3 off Craigslist. It has a clean esn but it won't read the 4G sim card. I found out it was flashed to Cricket so I used Odin to flash it back to the original rom that came with the version of the phone which changed it to Baseband version: I535VRLEC but this still won't work it still has the same problem reading the Verizon 4G Sim.
I guess my question is... if there is a different rom I should flash it too? Or is it that once it has been flashed from Verizon to Cricket it can't flashed back to be used on Verizon again?
I would just get a new sim card from Verizon, that may resolve your issues. A few questions:
1) Does it still make calls and texts? The main issue is it doesn't connect to LTE? Maybe I'm not understanding your issue entirely.
2) Does the phone have your phone number and matching IMEI (labeled on the retail box) listed in Settings/About Phone?
You could Odin the stock image VRALF2, VRALEC was a pre-release image. Do not accept the OTA then dial *2767*3855# to reprovision the sim card. Maybe see if this resolves your issues.

Well when I brought the phone in the first time to get it activated I was switching from a Droid X so they gave me a new 4G Sim card. But yeah it won't make calls or texts and it won't connect to there 4G data network or pick up the sim.
So are you saying changing it from VRALEC to VRALF2 might fix it?

Oh yeah and I don't have the box it came in but my phone number did show up in the Settings/About Phone
And at the store they told me it was picking up the Verizon network it just wasn't connecting I guess? so it wouldn't get on the internet or make calls or texts

What I was saying is that normally people Odin to VRALF2 or VRALG1 then reprovision their sim card. That code will work on VRALEC but I was just trying to put you on a common starting point since we here don't really use the VRALEC stock tar in Odin. Primarily what you'll find in the stickies are VRALF2 and newer images. VRALF2 was the "store bought" earliest software version of the Verizon GSIII from the summer. Its worth a try but consider the following first.
Since you said it doesn't call/text then I think you lost your IMEI. Could you check for me under Settings/About Phone? It should be 15 random numerical digits if I'm not mistaken. If its not 15 digits, it will be 0 or several 0's. Don't post the exact number if it is 15 digits, but tell me what you see.

No I didn't lose the IMEI it's still there, all 15 digits.
So is it possible to flash a Galaxy S3 from Verizon to Cricket. Then back to Verizon? Is it just a matter of changing to the right software?

Honestly I know nothing about flashing to another carrier. It's not something that I have a reason to research so I'm not knowledgeable in that area. My suggestion still is to run that reprovision code since you've already Odin flashed to VRALEC.
EDIT: To clarify, my suggestion is Odin VRALF2 then run the dialer code.
Just as a precaution, you should write down your IMEI, ERI, and maybe even your MIN and PRL version and store them somewhere on your computer. Since you don't actually have the retail box, this should be kept safe if we can't get this current situation straightened out. My reasoning is if you do somehow lose these before you're 100% fixed, having them written down may help you if you need to use one of the IMEI or ERI tools in the dev section.

Let's see what happens when you follow section 5 of this thread:

Use the official VRALG1 4.0.4 firmware, don't accept the OTA prompt, then try the reprovision code.

Ahh, great! When you do just make sure to root, unlock your bootloader, make a nandroid backup in CWM or TWRP recovery, then use the "Comprehensive IMEI /EFS Backup" thread to properly backup your IMEI.
I encourage you to flash roms until you find something you like. I'll suggest that you stay with touchwiz roms then see whether sticking with Samsung's software in its various forms is good enough for you. If not, there's plenty of AOSP to go around!
So you just followed step 5 on the link above and it worked? (flashing with 4.0.4 ROM)
I'm going through a similar issue and been having a hell of a time getting mine to work. Mine was flashed to work on nTelos which is a CDMA provider in my area. I have flashed to just about everything possible (except 4.0.4) and haven't had any luck.
I went to the Verizon store and they tried to activate the phone but they couldn't but game me a sim to use and told me to call back if and when I could get it flashed back.
I tried at one point to take a working sim from another phone but it will not activate..... will not make calls, will not get data etc etc. when I dial 611 it still goes to ntelos.
Someone suggested putting Phone info on and setting the Phone to RUIM but I could not find that setting in Phone Info (even on the correct phone info, after time I found out the original phone info was pulled from the play store and I had to manually download it.
Anyway with the SIM I have and following section 5 as suggested mine does not give the option to accept or deny the OTA so I can try to enter the re-provision code. Should I get hold of the known working SIM to attempt this?
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
The key to this however is to have a working SIM (the only one in our workplace was from an iPhone 5), I fashioned a nano SIM to mini SIM adapter and got the info on to the phone then my phone could finally be activated however the nano SIM I used got tied to my phone and couldn't be put back to the iPhone 5 it came from lmao... so I had to run to the Verizon store to get my co-workers phone re-activated.
But going down to the 4.0.4 and VRLEC modem then inserting the active sim, reprovision once it activates (it didnt give me the option to not allow it to do anything), then insert the mini sim, call Verizon they got it activated, I just now updated back to 4.1.1 (need to get 4.1.2) and everything is working wonderfully!!
All of this info is extremely refreshing to hear since I have the same problem with one exception. My s3 has a bad charger port. Sent it in for warranty repair and Samsung said it was moisture damaged and corroded and is not covered under warranty (lies). But that is beside the point and another subject.
My question is, can all of this stuff be done through the sd card and not through the USB? I know it is a long shot but any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
I know this thread is a little old but I just wanted to say thanks, the exact same thing happened to me (phone was previously flashed to cricket but i was unaware until AFTER purchasing and trying to activate)
ODIN Flashing the OMBINATION_I535VRALG1_I535VZWALG1_743127_REV09_user_low_ship.tar.zip package then reprovisioning with the *2767*3855# worked like a charm, I was sweating for a while as the deal was from craigslist
So far as i can tell to do this you NEED to use the VRAL as I tried a few other (newer) stock files and this was the only one that worked
THANKS AGAIN!

Once you are unlocked it'll remain unlocked so you can flash kk. If everything is working I wouldn't flash a different modern. No use messing with it if it works.

So here's my situation.
I have a Verizon Galaxy S3 I535 I have been using on Verizon's network for about 2 years. I am switching to a local carrier that shares towers with Verizon. I am trying to use my I535 on the local carrier. I got a SIM card from the local carrier, put that in my phone and I can make calls and receive text messages but not send them.
In order to attempt to resolve this issue I planned to Wipe the phone and put a custom ROM on to ensure that none of Verizon's software or settings is preventing the texting from working. Problem is I am running KitKat version 4.4.2 that has Verizon's bootloader lock.
I got the phone rooted via Towelroot and CW ROM Manager installed. (rebooted into recovery mode got the "Verizon found unauthorized software yada yada." Got the phone back to a "normal" state with 4.4.2 rooted.)
My questions are:
1. Do you think putting a custom ROM on the phone will resolve my ability to send text messages?
2. Texting works on these same towers using Verizon. Can the backend hardware at Verizon allow the phone to work properly, but not the local carrier? (I have verified Local carrier Galaxy S3 is a different model number)
3. Is it possible to overwrite the bootloader/rom via ODIN
4. Is it possible to brick a phone so bad that you cant even reload the default OS via ODIN

1. Sounds to me like it's not sim unlocked.
2. A custom rom may or may not work in this case, if your on the 4.4.2 OTA your limited to two current roms other than stock using safestrap, disregard the custom rom part
3. The bootloader is locked so once again your limited
4. And yes you could very well hard brick the phone while not doing something correctly

1. I called Verizon when I was planning to switch. They told me my phone is unlocked to use on any carrier. They also gave me the code '000000' if it isn't unlocked. I never received an error message or a place to put an unlock code when using the new SIM. Do you have a link I can reference to ensure that it is unlocked? I have done several searches and haven't found anything that works. There are several that say to type in secret code *#XXXX# but my phone just attempts to make a call and says "not a valid number". Any help is appreciated.
2. Are you saying that i would be able to put a custom ROM on like Jelly 'Beans' or Clean ROM? If yes, can you post a link for that as well? I have done some extensive searching and most of the results applied to phones that were pre 4.4.x release.

I honestly know nothing about sim unlocking. If it's on 4.3 or 4.4 and it took the OTA your very very limited to what roms you can flash.

I think that this version of the s6 (the cspire version) isn't widely available enough and no one has bothered to make a root for it - ive been searching for a long time and still haven't found anything

I have a rooted cellphone of this version (I purchased it rooted), is there any workaround to unlock GSM/LTE bands on this device?

Yes, it was SM-G920R7... first, I flashed twrp-3.0.0-0-zerofltespr , then Unikernel-v9b-BOH1-920P-100815 , both via ODIN (you can google both files), note these files are NOT for r7 version (they're for sprint version *g920p*) but they'll root the phone.
I ended up getting rid of the phone as there's afaik no way to enable gsm on it

That's not true. I finally rooted that model and got TWRP installed, and followed the steps to get the Sprint Galaxy S4 domestic SIM unlocked. I'm working on this too. So far I've got the same situation as you, Data works but no calls/text.
in a few weeks the person who wants me to unlock this phone for them is switching carriers and plans on buying a new phone to use until I can unlock the S6, so I'll have more time to mess with it then.
There's a few things I want to try, but I can't post links here (XDA rules).
One involves Rooting and using a service code to unlock the bands (google "TeamUSCellular GSM unlock S6")
The other also requires rooting and involves using "galaxy tools" to unlock the bands (not sure if this app works with marshmallow, though) (google "theandroidsoul how to sim unlock sprint galaxy S6")
My hopes are not high for getting this phone to work fully. I've also been trying to get custom ROMs to work, but I can't get the cell radio to work at all on custom ROMs. Even with the stock SM-G920R7 Kernel straight from the latest update .tar

Thanks for the suggestion, yeah I have tried galaxy tools (GT) to change the phone mode to LTE/GSM auto and tried different CSC values, and accessed the hidden menus through there. The sim unlock in GT asks for a code which I dont know, but the phone doesn't seem to be locked anyway since it doesn't care when I try different sim cards. Weird thing is the GT app doesn't work very well (most hidden menus not working) on the current rom i'm using but worked better on the stock cspire rom. Note, I tried using MSL 000000 in ##3282# data menu and it works but most the settings in there don't seem to be applicable to GSM networks.
Currently I'VE been messing with the build.prop file, also tried the CDMA to GSM flashable zip which edits the build.prop but nothing has gotten better. One time after editing the build.prop the phone would only turn on with a blank screen and vibrate every few seconds, that was SCARY. Also was planning on flashing other radio/modem but having trouble finding many of those files and pulling them from roms seems difficult to get the correct file to flash on odin.

I'm not sure you'll even be able to flash other models' modem..? I can't say I've ever tried.
Anyway, getting your hands on the firmware is easy. Just use SamFirm (http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/general/tool-samfirm-samsung-firmware-t2988647)
To use it, just input the model number (SM-G920R7/R4/P/V/T/A) and the region code, then select "auto".
Region codes and model numbers:
C-Spire: ACG (SM-G920R7)
US-Cellular: USC (SM-G920R4)
Sprint: SPR (SM-G920P)
Verizon: VZW (Locked out from download, app can't download) (SM-G920V)
T-mobile: TMB (SM-G920T)
ATT: ATT (Locked out from download, app can't download) (SM-G920A)
This app downloads firmwares directly from Samsung servers, so the download is really fast and guaranteed to be perfect/stock.
**the SM-G920R7 is closest related to the SM-G920R4 (US Cellular) & SM-G920P (Sprint). The US Cellular one recently supports GSM Bands natively without any rooting/messing with hidden settings, so that's where i'd start. You may not even need the baseband/modem, just flash the rom? I'm not sure. Good luck dude It'd be awesome if you get it working
*** Also, make sure you have a backup of your EFS before messing with the modem. Apparently if you flash an incompatible modem you can erase/corrupt the EFS partition and lose your IMEI. Hell, make a FULL backup with TWRP, and make sure that backup is copied over to your computer before doing any flashing. You can't be too careful with this.
Haven't had any luck flashing stock firmware or modems from other models using Odin, errors with a security message or something, tried G920A and G920R4. Probably for the best I suppose. Flashing custom roms has not been a problem, even if the don't work properly. Wonder if there is a test mode or way to use logcat to see why calls don't proceed like normal. Never worked on going CDMA to GSM before, I always did CDMA to CDMA in the past.
Hi,
I bought a SM-G930VL (tracphone branded, but verizon compatible) galaxy s7 for a pretty good price, however the advanced and wifi calling were not options (even though verizon told me they were before I purchased). I decided I would try to flash the VZW firmware from sammobile through odin, but it did not work. It originally gave me the ext4 error, but then flashing the csc fixed that. I then flashed the AP file, but it finished very quickly (about 3.5 min) and now will only boot into recovery when powered up.
Is there anything I can do to save my phone, or have I permanently screwed it up?
Thanks
holy sh*t got it working. Flashed the BL, AP, CP, and CSC files and it booted to welcome screen!!
Thanks all (and hopefully this helps anyone in the future who runs into this predicament)
It is currently checking wifi connection so hopefully all is well!
Edit: Is there a way to edit the title? That way this could be maybe help the next person rather than getting ignored.

Hi, want to ask a few questions. were you able to fully flash the Verizon firmware to this model with no issues? The phone is also supposed to be factory unlocked per my connections with reps.
Did the phone fully change to a SM-G930V, showing in settings and in Odin mode?
Yes I was able to fully flash Verizon and I have working wifi calling and advanced calling. In settings it shows up as V not VL as well. As far as I understand it is the exact same hardware just different software running on it

Great, i flashed one yesterday for a friend via teamviewer and even changed the model as SM-G930V in odin mode. So I guess due to this the phone has now a locked bootloader and ended up being converted to a full Verizon galaxy S7. Only thing it did not take his Metro PCS sim card. Unsure it would take any other carrier sim cards.

Was the boot loader originally unlockable? I was under the impression that all SD versions were locked down right. That's great that you got it to work also!

It seems it was as it allowed me to flash the verizon bootloader and full firmware. Normally tracfones only allow to flash part of a firmware and rejects all bootloader partitions.
Is bootloader locked after flash g930v firmware. Or can I flash back to straight talk?

haven't tried flashing back as have no reason for that. To top it off the firmware has not been released yet.

I'm currently on Verizon switching to T-Mobile this week. Is it possible to flash to G930T? I flashed g930VL to G930V. But wasnt sure if I could. If of the phone would be compatible with T-Mobile

There were reports of someone flashing the phone to an SM-G930U (Unlocked US S7). So apparently they are interflashable. I however have not gone to that extent as am yet to get my one to thinker with. I flashed previously to a SM-G930V via teamviewer for a friend. You can search the threads and verify.

You probably figured it by now, but MetroPCS is the only retarded carrier that locks SIM to IMEI. So if you want to use MetroPCS on any other phone than the one you currently have it on, you need to call customer service and give them your new phone's IMEI. Then your new phone will start working. If you want to switch back to your old MetroPCS phone you need to call them again and give them that IMEI, which is retarded. I don't know why they do that but it's really annoying if you frequently switch phones.
I have a 935V (S7 Edge Verizon) and now have 935U ROM on it using Tracfone. Initially I have Tracfone's Verizon service but I wanted the freedom to easily move from one phone to another so I converted it to a Tracfone-GSM(ATT) and been using it in my Verizon S7 Edge (with 935U ROM) and iPhone SE without any problem.

Could you add links to everything you used? I have the same model using straight talk and I want to be able to have a backup firmware to flash in case I ever mess up my phone (which seems to be a trend). And have you had any issues at all? Like, does everything work okay?

But alls im looking to do is get my s7 rooted and it would be nice to have it flashed to Verizon first seeing as there root guide is for verison phone and firmware.

I bricked my SM-930VL too and it's not letting me flash anything back to stock. No clue what to do
It was originally an unlocked model straight from Samsung. I flashed AT&T firmware so I could use some features. I figured this build number would receive OTA updates.
i never got ota updates on my unlocked phone. I've installed 100% at&t stock firmware.

Someone told me if I register my imie and sim number with AT&T I should start getting updates. Not only did I not get the update after giving them the info, wifi calling doesn't work anymore.

imei and sim is registered maybe that's why wifi calling never worked on mine. lol
Current stock is N950USQU5CRG7
You can dl the update.zip file HERE, copy it to your ext SD card and flash it from recovery. This WILL factory reset

Haha yes, that's exactly it. I found my old Note 7 box, grabbed the sim from that and told at&t I need to update it. Wifi calling working again.

Got an error, I'm on CRF6 currently.
oh wait so if we got the unlocked version straight from SS and if we give ATT an ATT phone, we can have wifi calling? O_O?

Do you have ATT Rom on it or it the stock Rom from Samsung?
Also, can I ask what you told them to change the IMEI?
I called and they were telling me I can't change the IMEI and that even if we do change it, it would only work on the previous phone... which seems bogus...

Was originally unlocked direct from Samsung, I flashed AT&T software.
I just flashed the update on my own, I don't know if I'll ever get OTA.
I had no problem changing IMEI. It had my old S7 edge IMEI, I used chat to change it to my current Note 8. Then quickly had them switch it to Note 7 IMEI once WIFI calling wouldn't work. They asked no questions both times. Just told them I upgraded phones and need to update my IMEI. I've never called them, just used the chat feature.

Thanks Stalker...
Now I have to decide if I want to flash ATT firmware or not...
Hate having to re-setup my phone haha.
So you just used Odin and the ATT firmware correct?
FYI I have been getting ATT OTA updates on my stock SS direct Note 8.

Yep, used Odin and the ATT firmware. I just back everything up using smart switch external storage feature and backed up my Nova Launcher settings. Only thing I don't like is I have to tweak all the settings over again.

One last question.
Did you need to give them the old SIM#?
I have info in my email before returning my Note 7 but nothing on the SIM card # and wonder if that might give me some trouble later on for wifi calling.

Just to see if that works... if not I am going to have to flash
Thanks for the info Stalker
You won't get AT&T OTA unless you're in AT&T network with MCC 310 MNC410 (Red pock GSMA has this so it can get AT&T OTA update).

Could you explain this a bit? I don't know what any of that means
You need active AT&T sim cards or AT&T MVNO (Red pockets(310 410 but not Freedompop 310 170) sim card in your phone to get AT&T software update.

My sim card is direct from AT&T. I've been using the same one since I purchased and activated the Note 7 in an AT&T store
Did you flash your phone with AT&T firmware including home CSC or just part of AT&T firmware?
You have to flash complete AT&T firmware to get AT&T OTA.

Flashed it including home CSC. Wanted everything so I could use wifi calling since that was the whole point in the first place.
