Wifi hotspot or wifi tether not broadcasting signal - Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE

I am not sure what caused this. Yesterday during the day, i was using my wireless tether app just fine. Then lastnight I tried to connect to my computer, and my Android wifi network is not listed on my computer as an available network to connect to. I have rebooted the phone and computer about 5 times. I have tried a different computer, and an ipod, nothing is seeing my wireless tether network.
I also tried using the stock wifi hotspot app that came with the phone, and it will not start up or broadcast a signal.
So for whatever reason, my phone stopped broadcasting out a wifi signal. I can still connect to wifi from my phone to another router, I am just not able to use my phone as a hotspot anymore.
Has anyone else had this problem or seen a discussion on this issue anywhere? I have the stock ROM, but I am rooted. I did not change anything from the time that it was working, to the time when it stopped. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but I know thats not the problem anyhow.

Same thing.
The same thing happened to me, the only way I could fix it was to restore a nandroid from when it worked and update my apps from titanium backups. Still don't know what happened or why.

Ok, yeah I am kind of assuming I am going to have to do a reset or load a custom ROM or something. Thanks for the info.
If anyone else has any suggestions, let me know please.

Yes I am also having this issue, It was working last night Now it will not show up at all. I did nothing.. I did get a update on my Super user

Can't root (SU) or use FoxFi after Sprint ASA-14 update
So I never rooted my phone and made the mistake of allowing Spring to do an OTA update to ASA-14. Now all the root exploits don't work and FoxFI doesn't work. Since I can't root I can't use Wifi Tether either.
I desperately need someway to let my phone do a WIFI Hotspot with sprint ASA-14 update on my phone! HELP!

Why can't you just unlock the bootloader and root?

I have unlocked the bootloader, but with the ASA 14 update I am unable to root via the moto2fail method. I was able to root with ASA 10 using the same method but when I try to downgrade I get a security error on the stock bootloader.

Motofail2go is broke with the ASA14 firmware. If you are unlocked, flash the TWRP recovery available in this sub-forum and it will root your phone for you..
Get your TWRP image here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1887070

I use method from HERE. It's easier to gain root.

The new TWRP automatically roots the device... flash TWRP and when you reboot TWRP it will detect you are not rooted and root the device for you.... so I'm not sure how that thread is easier lol.
Either way, you will get root and custom recovery. So either method is fine.

Yeah..actually I rooted by flashing cwm and then the superSU.zip. After that,I flashed TWRP. I'm getting used to TWRP since using SS3 on my D4.
Sent from my XT897 using Tapatalk 2

Success!
Thanks for your help! I got TWRP installed and then installed the SU.zip and now I have root with ASA 14.
FoxFI still doesn't work but I was able to get "WiFi Tether" to work since I am now rooted.

I rooted and now the WIFI tether app will not work/.. ANY IDEAS

just FTR, my photon q with some version of CWM and supersu as the root program was able to use "wifi tether" (no longer available on the market!?). this was just last night.
the only problem is that it can only broadcast an ad-hoc network. this isn't picked up by a lot of devices, namely tablets. my win7 laptop can see it and connect just fine, however.
i tried changing the "setup method" to the only other of the two available (some ad-hoc method and "native framework tether") and the device crashed. when it rebooted, it was selected, but it didn't work.
food for thought.

Not to hijack but can anyone recommend an app to hide the tethering usage from the carrier? Like a proxy app? Thanks in advance.

[fixed] WiFi unable to connect after S-OFF on Sensation

Hi!
I just unlocked (S-OFF) and rooted my Sensation according to the tutorial pinned in the development section. Unfortunately, now I am unable to connect to any WiFi-networks. My phone is an unlocked, SIM-free european HTC Sensation.
Restoring the phone backup I created before rooting (with ClockworkMod Recovery) to the unrooted stock ROM didn't work, still no wireles lan.
Does anybody know how to resolve this issue? Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.
Edit: If you flashed an unsafe boot image, page two has the solution.
Maybe try to ask in the IRC channel from #revolutionary on irc.freenode.net (but please recheck this on their website ), joined there today because of a minor problem and they seem very helpful.

u installed boot.img from cwm? I`m figuring out how to restore the old one..
I did some further investigation, and possibly was to quick on the draw:
While trying to find a solution, I noticed that I was able to connect to some other networks without problems. So I tried changing channels & power-cycling my WiFi access point. Et voilà: Magically, my wireless lan-problems did disappear.
I guess the problem was with the router all along, no fault of unrevoked & AlphaRev which I both want to praise for their excellent work in unlocking this phone.
Next time, I'll try turning it off and on again, first
Glad you fixed it Mr Mango, can you change the Title of your Thread to Fixed then

Same here! Sensation with Vodaphone branded ROM, no wifi anymore. Says "Error" in wireless menu.
I'm not sure if this was caused by S-OFF itself or by the installation of the "Unsafe" boot image to get root in adb by default.
So far I haven't found a way to make the wifi work again!
I have the exact same "Error" problem with my T-mobile branded sensation

UNSAFE boot image was the cause. so i scrapped it
AS Joel said, just reinstall stock rom. and its gone.
for more information visit the guide to S-off, bottom of post 1 will tell you how to debrand or reinstall
Yes, everything works fine now with the un-branded ROM.
So there's no way to get direct root adb access without breaking wi-fi functionality at the moment?

When users had the wifi break, the rooting file in step 3 was outdated. it was for froyo and eclair only. whcih is why users flashed unsecured boot.img causing the WIFI loss.
NOW!
Read the Guide. If you follow step 3. you WILL get root and YOU WILL NOT LOSE WIFI.
initially Step 3. had a su file called su-ef2.3.6.1.zip which didnt work causing people to use the unsecured boot from binary
but the new one is called su-efgh2.3.6.3zip which is working
the difference, the new supports Gingerbread and Honeycomb
i followed step 3 and hundreds of others have, we are all rooted on stock or custom roms without wifi problems!

Sorry, maybe I wasn't being totally clear.
Yes, I flashed ClockworkMod and then "su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip" and it works great. I'm rooted, no problem with that.
The only thing I'm missing here, is that when I connect with "adb shell" I get the "$" prompt (not root). So I need to type "su" first. Then I'm root.
With the "unsecured boot" I get connected as root right away with "adb shell", but then the Wi-Fi doesn't work.
Therefore I was wondering if some way exists, to enable direct root for "adb shell" without breaking the Wi-Fi.

Check your Build number under the software information in Settings.
it should start with 1.27.531.2 or 1.29.531.2
You can download the exact same one below according to your build number
RUU_Pyramid_TMOUS_1.27.531.2_Radio_10.42.9007.00P_ 10.11.9007.15_M_release_192098_signed

Ahhh, does this mean we naughty WIFI guys can try to re-root now? I was one of the ones that had WIFI go crap out after the root, and I flashed back to a stock ROM for TMOUS. Does this mean I can try to root again and plan on it working this time?

[Q] Root failure affecting tethering?

Solved in post #2 & 3.
My wife has a Charge and I am trying to root it for her just so she can tether her laptop from her phone instead of my ThunderBolt all the time.
I used Odin v1.82 to flash the latest recovery file (0817_charge_recovery.tar).
I flashed PB&JTime Kernel from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1126136&highlight=latest+kernel.
I rebooted phone to find I had no root using Root Checker from Market.
I manually downloaded SuperUser from Market. Rechecked and had root access, according to Root Checker.
I'm running GummyCube2.0, successfully now.
I downloaded both OpenGarden and Barnacle. Neither tethering app will work. Everytime she tried to connect to my phone, it shows up as a wifi network, but her phone shows up as an Adhoc network, which will not even connect.
Any idea what's going on here? Any more information I can provide to assist in finding a solution? Any help is appreciated... I want MY phone back, damnit!

Having problems with rooted Gingerbread D2G

Hi,
I just installed the new Gingerbread for my D2G
but couldn't get it rooted via z4root
so I tried PetesMotorolaRootTool and it didn't work either.
I finally managed to root my device with Pete's DROID 3 easy root script v7
so I thought I had it all straightened out.
Although Root Explorer seems to work just fine (renaming and all..)
but other apps such as market enabler or the Wireless Tether
seem to be failing to acquire root permission.
It just keep asking me if I have my device rooted (well...yeah..duh...)
What seems to be the problem?
Plz..help...
Thx a million in advance....I'm very desperate...
I seem to be having an issue rooting mine as well. Using super one click root.
u should use d3 one click root
damn, im having the same issue. i use barnacle wifi tether and it gets denied su access. my su binary is up to date but i cant seem to use z4 for temp or permanent root. even thou my phone was rooted when i did the ota update and had no issues.
ok so i just did pete's root tool and it worked but now i cant get barnacle to work. it starts like normal but then spits out some mumbo jumbo about the dhcp port already in use... idk lol

i was having the same issue, it wouldnt root, but i finally got it with pete's motorola root, but now whenever i try to tether, it gains root access but a white icon pops up in my notification bar stating that basically tether was turned on, but its verizons. so then when i try to log onto the internet on my computer, it comes up to the verizon BBAC page trying to make my buy their tethering. if i can get some help please. ive tried wifi tether, wireless tether, open garden, and barnacle and it all does the same thing. thank yo in advance.
Yea I'm having the same tether issue. Does anyone know of a way to quarantine or freeze the stupid gb/verizon tether app? My quarantine thing can't find it since its more of a setting than an app and idk enough about how to tweak the system settings or registry stuff. Can anyone find a way to disable this?

[Q] D2G .629 root problems.

So I rooted my D2G with the guide found here and everything went smoothly.
My phone doesn't have a service provider attached to it, which means no downloads ota and for some reason the new rooting broke the wifi.
This guy posted a fix for the wifi, but in order for it to work I have to install the fix with CWM. Since CWM is not installed on my phone, and I have no wifi, I cannot implement his fix.
I tried to install CWM manually, but the "Hold volume+ and the power button to install..." step in the process does nothing.
Just to be clear, my phone has never had a service provider and I just used GrooveIP to make wifi calls. It hasn't been rooted since the official .629, I just now rooted it with total success except for the wifi being broken.
Is there a way to fix the wifi I am unaware of?
Is the method I am using to initiate the CWM install on a droid 2 global incorrect?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
See http://droid.koumakan.jp/wiki/ClockworkMod_Recovery for step by step installation instructions.
I'm not sure which instructions are you following there.
WiFi is usually broken if you stay on 4.5.608. You need to install the 4.5.629 OTA once you got root, installed RootKeeper, and backed su up.

[Q] No USB Connectivity - How to Root?

I've had my Galaxy Tab 2.0 7 for about 5 months now, and have rooted it, installed Modded ROMs, etc. Really enjoyed it.
However, yesterday, I decided to clean up my 32 gig external memory chip, and hooked up the USB cable to the computer as in the past.
Whoops! PC will now not recognize the tablet in USB mode. Nothing changed from the day before, both PC and tablet had worked together then.
Now, I get this message in the Device manager of the PC "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)".
I tried the normal things, reinstalling drivers, using different USB ports, etc. Nothing worked. So, I'm assuming that I had a hardware failure
in the tablet or the USB cord that came with it.
I'd like to know if there is anyway to "Root" my tablet by Using wireless? That still works, and I can move stuff off and onto the tablet. But I
would still like to have the obvious advantages of it being rooted.
Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to give.
OK, first off, if you've already rooted it and installed custom ROM's, why would you need to root it again? you talk of reinstalling drivers but have you rebooted BOTH the computer and the tablet since this problem occurred and you redid the drivers? Why are you trying to connect to the computer to erase files on the tablet, you do know there is a file manager in android that you can use to delete files? If you don't mind buying the pro version there is an app called "wifi file transfer" that connects to your PC via a web browser and you can copy files off and on (never done onto myself) your tablet with over wifi, I use it when I'm at work and don't have my cords with me but need to moves pictures from an android device to my laptop.

Need to root it again, because somehow, the root was removed. Still works just fine, have busybox and clockwork recovery, but it is not rooted. Don't ask me why. And, yes, I have rebooted both units, probably 4 or 5 times - reinstalled drivers several times. I normally use wireless to remove files, because it is faster, and easier to find the files I want. I have WiFi Transfer Pro, but that doesn't help the "root" situation. I don't have any problems moving files onto and off of the tablet, just can't root without USB connectivity.
No Answers, I guess. What this boils down to:

wich rom are you using right now?? beacuse if by loosing root you just mean that you do not have anymore the superuser app that does not mean that you losto root!!! for example on my PAC-ROM i have root but no superuser app because superuser is integrated in the setting menu!!!
and so i think that now it is the same for most CM based ROM.
But if you easly want to check it just install from play store superSU from chainfire! it will check root on the first opening!!
