[Q] CM10 missing menu bar/button? - HTC One S

I have been using the latest CM10 stable build (cm-10.0.0-ville.zip) for a while now, and it's all been great. But I never noticed until now, in some applications there's no way of getting into the settings of these applications as there's no menu button showing.
For example, WhatsApp Messenger should have some 3-dot-menu-button-overlay but it's not showing anywhere. Is this a known issue for the latest CM10 build, or is it just me being stupid?
I already enabled this, and rebooted: Settings > System > Hardwarebuttons > Show 3-dots menu button in apps

You should be able to enable the recent apps button to open menu in system settings...

I know I should, but how is this achieved other than enabling the 3-dotted menu-bar button?

Nah I don't think long pressing home will work... If you go to phone settings look for an option like enable custom action. It will be inside a different option .that's not exactly what it says but similar... And you will be able to enable long press actions on your keys..

It does on Dark Jelly out-of-the-box.

[Q] Edit Contacts / GPS errors

Hey guys, so I have a fresh CM10 running and I have a few questions
This may sound ridiculous, but how in the world do I edit / remove a contact? I've long-pressed, swiped, double tapped, nothing opens a menu, and there is no menu button?
Secondly - I have noticed since installing CM10 my GPS doesn't work, at all. Any advice on where to go with that?
Bump
Bump. Surely someone else has had this error it being the most popular rom?

I'm not on CM, i'm on AOKP but the process should be similar. Contacts>(choose one)>Options key (Usually remapped to right most capacitive key)
What ROM did you come from? What build are you on now? What all did you wipe before and after you flashed? I hope I can somewhat help you!
O wait some ROMs have remapping and don't have a menu button stock. Go dig in settings/ ROM controls and try to remap a button to "Menu". Maybe that will work?

I can't seem to find any rom controls. This is kind of silly though I mean a menu button should be present in every menu.... Kinda disappointed that I have to do this with such a well known rom.
I came from a fresh root and wipe / unlock.

I am on PACman which has a base of CM10.
Try going to settings -> System -> Hardware keys -> enable custom actions and it should give you the option to set up a long press remap for a menu option.

There is no "Hardware keys" section, or custom actions from what I've seen. I've been digging consistently too : /

Let me flash it real quick and see what's going on with this.
EDIT: Flashing now
EDIT2: You say there isn't a "hardware keys" section under system? I beg to differ. I found it first attempt.
open your settings
you have wireless netwroks at the top of your settings
under the wireless network section you should have interface
in the interface section is system
click that
the bottom option is hardware keys
click that and have fun.

I understand. All AOSP ROMs are completely custom to the user, meaning they can program what buttons they want to do what. Which is why it's not set as default. And yes, you are blind.
Also, edit your title and put solved in it. That way someone doesn't come in here and try and answer this a month down the road, when it's already been answered.

[Q] [ Q ] remap / re task the app switcher key into the settings key

Any non-rooting method to change the app switching key into the settings key a just like other Galaxy products? There are some apps where that's the only way to access settings menu.

Thanks, I really didn't know it worked like that. I admit I didn't read the instructions when I got it yesterday. Too much excitement.

[Q] Long press home button

Long pressing the home button, brings up a shortcut to two apps, one is 'What's new' the other is search.
Is it possible to customise this? I've tried googling but my 'Settings' menu's seem different to a standard 4.4.4 build.
Thanks.

It will be possible when developers achive root and other stuff. Right now for root you need to unlock bootloader which i dont advise because of this

I don't understand why the menu option for 'Buttons' is missing from 'Settings'? Why would they do this?
Anyway, thanks for the heads up,
Cheers
You can 'sort of' customise it without root. Some apps like Tasker and Secure Settings can take over from Google Now. After installing one of those swiping to that will let you select which app to use.
Not as good as being able to set up multiple options but it's something.
Incidentally, it's also possible to disable What's New without root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=53916026&postcount=20

Very easy, go to settings, choose Apps, and go to the app that is set to be launched by long pressing on the home button. Click on the appropriate app and scroll down to Launch by Default and Clear Defaults.
You can now set a new app to be launched from the home screen.
The above applies on Android 5.0 and up.

Anyone Else not able to Simulate a "Menu Button" press?

I cannot simulate a menu button press on this phone. Blu's ESL customer support didn't help at all.
On the Note 4, you hold down the recent apps button and the phone treats it like a menu button press. I use a few somewhat legacy apps and not having menu press completely breaks those apps.

Current apps should not need a menu button. However, if you have old outdated apps you can simulate it with the (weirdly named) built in "suspend button." Settings > Advanced settings > Suspend option. Enable that and it will overlay a round button on the screen. When you need the menu button tap the on-screen button. It will expand and show more buttons. The button with three dots is the menu button. If you'd prefer to hide the "suspend button" so that it's not always visible you can do so by long pressing on it. You can unhide it in the notification panel.
Awesome, that works, but what a sad work around to an issue solved so much more efficiently on other devices.

Sad indeed. I will continue to poke around for another solution to this, with the ultimate goal of remapping that recent apps button to a menu. I am not sure this will be possible without root access though. Good news is there is another thread here on XDA with a bounty/reward of around $200 at the moment for anyone who can get a workable root and TWRP recovery goin for this phone. :fingers-crossed:

True, but as I said no current app should need a menu key. Most new Android phones have no menu key because it's not needed. I have about 200 apps installed and only one needs the menu key workaround because it hasn't been updated in years.

Titanium Backup menu access

This may be a silly question. But... How do I access the settings menu or batch actions while navigation gestures are enabled?

Yes I have found work around like using navigation buttons and long pressing recents button. But was just curious as to why there isn't an actual button on the app like three dots overflow or something. Thought maybe there was a settings in OOS I was missing. I still would like to hear from others to see if they have same issue as in mu screenshot.

Using stock OOS with root and custom kernel and I do have a menu button at top right corner.
Free TiBa 8.31 version

I also have 8.31 (but Pro version). I use navigation gestures and have NO menu button....
I have the same issue as well. I think it's a bug. I've had this issue before too and it went away automatically. The menu button just appeared all of a sudden
I'm on Pro 8.3.1 (N5X and GZosp Pie with Oneplus-like gestures). No menu, neither in 8.2.2.
Solution: tab Overview >problems >settings.
Sorry, it's mentioned in #5 yet.
