Hello, I've been reading about this problem I have for pretty much half a day now without finding any concrete solutions or explanation on why my One X is not reading any sim card I put it. I am from canada and bought this phone off ebay a few days ago. Phone is locked to ATT but unlocking it isnt that big of a deal since I've done it before with another One X. So when the phone arrived this morning I tried to put my microsim in and its not recognize that there's one in there at all. At first I thought it was probably just my sim but I also tried another one from Rogers and another from Telus. Both are known to be working on their own phones but not cannot be found on this One X. After searching and reading. Some people said it could be solftware or hardware. I would rather it be software since I don't think I can go through any kind of warranty through ATT or HTC since I am not the one that purchased the phone from them. The situation is very frustrating. If anyone had this problem before or any ideas on how I can go about fixing this would be greatly appreciated. Everything is stock on phone right now with ICS 4.0.4
I've heard some tried a piece or two of scotch tape to thicken the SIM card in similar cases.
I think most had no luck with this but throwing it out there for you to consider as a cheap test.

HTC still covers these phones for a few more months. Call them they will let you know for sure.
You can try to contact the seller or eBay but that may be a bigger pain
Maybe the credit card you used will help you. Hopefully you didn't use a bank account through PayPal

Try to do factory reset. And see if it will solve the problem. Or try to run AT&T RUU. And check your SIM as well.

I've tried all of the above and more. I contacted the seller and dude was saying that everything was working when he took out his sim card. Called ATT since it's an ATT phone and after about over an hour on the phone and talked to two different people all they could come up with is factory reset which I've tried for more than ten times now. After all that they pretty much said I am best out of luck because since I didnt buy the phone from them they cant give me warranty on it. Brought to a local shop, they said they would probably charge like 100 to change the sim holder inside the phone. Search on ebay and the sim holder is like 7 dollars. At this point I might just try to do it myself. Anyone ever open up their HOX? any tips?

Sim card issues with this phone seem to be common. Airplane mode solves the issue, i just put tape on the sim to see what happens. Did nothing i guess.
Have you actually tried to boot the phone with an att SIM?

OK...so i bought a cheap HTC One X at&t from the states
Unlocked the network
Unlocked the bootloader
Rooted it
Flashed Viper rom
all working fine as you can see by the images/screen shot
Now after about a week of no problems the network keeps dropping off/out
I reflashed the rom and as you go through the start up it gives me 3 options at&t generic(i think) and the one i want EE (Everything Everywhere) which is my sim
Now ive tried different sims 3 O2 after ive booted up just to make sure its all ok and unlocked networks and they all appear to work then they to drop out....ive then tried these sims in my back up phone and they work great
Now yesterday no matter what i do NO SIGNAL could it be a radio problem? os is there something else i need to do?

Did all that was surggested
Firmware
Beatmode
Still the ******* same
So from the back of my head i seem to remember some where that you could strip the phone down and with a needle just ever so slightly raise the contact pins on the motherboard thereby hopefully getting a better contact with the sim
Also you can(if your sim as seen as many phones as mine )get a pencil rubber(eraser in the sates ) and just make sure the contacts on the sim are spotlessly clean
Well i did none of that
but these are just my thoughts on the Sim failed subject
So what did i do
I got a nail board which at the time was to thick to go in the sim tray
So with a hobby knife i whittled it down on the rough side to leave the very fine side just right go brush the contact on the sim reader
And hey presto
FIXED

Cool. If you have any further problems, you can stick a piece of tape to the rear side of the SIM card to force the contacts together a bit better.

i posted this on another website's forum yesterday...sorry for those who read it twice, but i got no responses and am desperate.
so my launch day phone had a bit of an accident last weekend the screen cracked. I was able to get another thunderbolt from someone, was originally a refurb (tag under battery says "remanufactured in Philippines" )
any who I've been using the refurb one for about a week now, no major issues. But now today I can't get LTE at all...I've tried reflashing different radios, going back to sense over CM7...nothing. Put the same sim card in another phone right next to it, LTE.
What else can I do? thanks in advance
Have you installed an app recently that is messing up the phone? Have you checked to see if LTE is active on the phone? *#*#4636#*#* and check your phone info. Could always try flashing another radio.
Why does everyone start flashing radios and performing hard resets on their phones when a signal problem shows up? Wouldn't it be wise to contact Verizon first and make sure it isn't their problem? If you haven't changed anything on your phone, there's a 99% chance that verizon is having an off day.
nothing comes to mind that i would of installed that triggered this.
tried different radios.
called verizon to see what they can do. Looks like I can get a replacement phone shipped out. Now to return to stock. thanks.

I'm surprised the VZW rep didn't tell you that it's because the 4G sim cards are paired with your phone. I tried to swap 2 4G phones on my account in the past and I was told that the 4G cards are associated to the phones and they would need to send me out new 4G sim cards. This was a while ago, so I'm not sure if it's still valid, but I would think that they'd have a way to re-link the sim cards on their end.
Good luck with this.
Alright so, as the title says, bought it from Craigslist and it currently won't work on T-mo. The guy was on the phone with it before I bought it (saw him) so it obviously does work. Do I have to flash a t-mo radio or can I just factory reset and it'll be fine? I don't really mind not having root at the moment. It's on LeeDrOiD if that helps. Will post any other necessary info.
So you installed a T-Mobile SIM and it said it wasn't an authorized SIM? Or are you trying to connect to T-Mobile with an AT&T SIM? Otherwise it should work fine.

My previous T-mo SIM. So I guess it's unauthorized for the device but I've had the Sim (of course) for years.
Weird. Is it an international One S, or does it say T-Mobile on the front? I've never heard of being able to lock a device to a new carrier...
You could always try the SIM unlock tutorial that's in the development section.

Is the current sim active? It should work but not WiFi calling. Try to go T-Mobile store and grab another sim.
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using Tapatalk 2
the first thing I would do is head down to a T-Mo store to get a new sim card.
Yes, the SIM is activated. Been using it for about 5 years now, was in my N1, Sensation, and a flip phone for a while. Though I did get it cut for micro-SIM from a cutter (not done by myself). Perhaps it got screwed up? Though in the settings it can still pick up my #. And yup, it has T-Mobile at the top. Alright, I'll swap out the SIM and bump this up if that doesn't work.
More info: It keeps popping up to register with a network, and I select t-mo but it says "unable to register with select carrier".
Good chance it is blacklisted. People sell phones locally and then dont pay their bills on contract or report it lost or stolen and TMobile blacklist the IMEI. I learned my lesson. It happened to me twice over Craigslist. It will only work on ATT if it is. You can call TMobile or go into the store and they can tell you if it is.

I would almost bet that a new sim will solve your problem here. I remember when I got a new phone with T-Mo and still had a 6-7 year old sim card. I put it in the new phone and it would not work due to incompatibility with the new network specs etc. A new sim solved the problem. Let us know how the new sim works.

that happend to me in my tmobile sensation. i bought a T-mob htc sensation 4g and unlocked it to use it in telcel mexico, after some months i decided to change company and put it a movistar simcard, but it didnt read it; the phone was re-locked to telcel in a strange way (i dont know how)
the only thing i did, was to re-use the unlock method for the htc sensation and everything was fine again...
so, try to use the unlock method for the htc one S and check if that helps you

I agree.
Networks have changed a lot in the last few years. A 5-yo sim card is likely to be the cause of the problem.
If the network is just sim-locked you would get an 'Insert unlock code' message [or similar].

Update:
Alas, getting a MircoSim did not work. Perhaps it is blacklisted (I tried asking the guy there and he said he couldn't check, ugh). So, For now, I'm going to try to get a refund (guy said he was willing to) or try to trade it on Craigslist for something that will work. Unless someone can send over a quick guide on how to unlock the SIM reader. I tried the one that is posted and I never got the options that should have popped up.

Choose "Phone information"
Scroll down to Radio, see if it's On or Off.
Maybe pretty with it, turn it off turn it on see if it give you anything
When my One S was blacklisted, it gave me the same error.
You can call or chat online with T-Mobile support, and they'll tell you if it's blacklisted.

Will check tomorrow whether it's truly been blacklisted or not. And I had actually tried the radio thing earlier I was very hopeful that would work.
I recently bought this phone about 2 months ago.
Just got done checking several emails while on 4G. Put the phone down for a minute. Picked it up and lost all signal dealing with the mobile side. It works on WIFI but when it comes to sending texts, making calls or anything that deals with mobile it doesn't work. It says "No Signal Limited service Emergency Calls Only". It has been like this for the past hour and a half. I am currently located in Dallas, TX and I know that we are not going through any outages right now since I used my work phone to call my father's cell which is the same network as mine. Hey guys,
[n00b question]
I didn't want to start a new post, and admittedly I haven't done a thorough search through the One S forums for this issue I'm having, so forgive the thread hijack. I recently acquired a One S (unlocked, unbranded, 'global' version) and after receiving it and placing the SIM in the device -same microSIM as from my SGSIII- the phone acts crazy. I go from bouncing from 3G to H and back several times a minute. I know that can't be right, because I do not have this issue on my SGSIII. Does anyone know what might be causing this?
Also, first time posting in this sub-forum, so please go lightly on me.

Thanks guys.

Thought I was the only one and that may SIM card was maybe broken but it seems it's an hardware bug or issue.
Eventhough the first 4 months I never experienced this issue but lately is happening as often as 1-2 per day. Using flightmode doesn't help, shutting down the phone neither only a restart temporarily fixes the issue till the next time. Really annoying since I use this phone when I'm on standby and so I need to check every few minutes to make sure I still got a network connection...

My phone seems to have improve after JB update.
I got the same problem with my HTC One S!
1) I check the ESN and it comes available not reported stolen.
2) I did Factory reset and clear all storage as well = nothing!
3) When i go into phone settings it reads the sim card because you can get the phone number and everything other info from the carrier but nothing! Even i change from GSM/WCDMA Auto to GSM only and back and picks up the Network but it doesn't let me connect..."Your SIM card doesn't allow connection to this network" Message... im giving up guys, any help??
I have 2 One X's, one with an broken screen (#1), one new (#2). So I unlocked the bootloader and flashed CM10 nightlies on #1 successfully. When I put the SIM card from #2 into #1 however, I'm not able to connect to AT&T's network. I haven't been able to find an answer.
I have tried connecting to AT&T under the "network operators" in settings and have also tried changing the APN and then connecting AT&T, not working. It displays "cannot connect at this time, please try again later".
Anybody got a solution to my troubles? Thanks in advance.

Well, after I broke the screen on the first one and tried fixing it myself unsuccessfully I bought a brand new one on ebay that ended up having some pretty bad bluetooth issues, so I brought it in to AT&T and they exchanged it for me for free. So I guess #2 is really #3. Does that help clarify anything?
No sorry I don't have any other ideas. My idea was just a wild random guess sorry.

Maybe i'll try a couple other ROMs. If that doesnt work, then I suppose I can relock the bootloader and install the RUU HTC gave me, swap the SIMs and see if that even works. If not, it might be safe to assume that the issue is in the hardware.
If it is in fact the hardware, then maybe I'm confident enough to just do this to my main phone (also HTC One XL). Is the radio not working something that I should ever be concerned about when flashing a custom ROM?
Fixed this a while ago, wanted to share what I did. It was as simple as turning airplane mode on and then off. Then wala it worked.
Hello. I have a Htc Inspire that I bought off ebay brand new sealed. I ordered the straight talk sim for At&t device and activated the sim online. The sim activated fine (I have used this same sim in another At&t phone and was able to make a call without issue). I cant for the life of me get this sim to work in my Htc Inspire. I have used google, the forum here plus others. Read and read but I have only seen issues with people not getting the mms to work or how there Inspire 4g works great. If anybody can point me in the right direction I thank you very much.
***Info about the phone***
Bought phone new on ebay sealed in original box
Unlocked from code bought on ebay (dont think I needed it but ST employee gave me this as a possible issue)
Tried the sim in another phone (worked without issue)
Network settings:
Operator name: Unknown
Signal strength: 0
Mobile network type: Unknown
Service state: Out of service
Software information:
Android version: 2.3.3

Somehow i don't really know about that but... Try upgrading the radio. Search around the forums for the radio images and stuff. It might come in handy.

Ok , I figured out my issue. Yes I do feel like a complete idiot. Simple fix was to put the bottom cover on ( the one that covers the sd & sim card). This can be closed or marked as fixed.

Yes lol that cover is actually the radio antenna because it's built in... For future reference if you start having signal issues proceed to ebay and by a new battery door and sim/sd door it cost me 5 bucks brand new.
