I just got my tf700t yesterday, and I want to put cwm on it. Do i need to unlock the bootloader in order to install this or is there a new way of doing this? Also is their a way to install root without having to unlock the bootloader? Im sure this has been asked before but when i search for it all i get is ways to unlock the bootloader.

You need to unlock in order to flash CWM or TWRP (custom recovery), custom rom/kernel. Root can be install without unlock, but you have to downgrade back to ICS version .30, rooted, preserved root with OTA rootkeeper app, then do incremental upgrade, then restore root. If you unlock the bootloader, you can flash custom recovery and use this to install a pre-rooted rom, so no need to root manually.
thanks

To unlock, you don't need to downgrade. The Asus unlock tool will work with ICS or JB, it labeled as for ICS only, but not to worry, will work with both.

Now for the big question. is it worth unlocking? I know it voids my warrenty, and i do have some light bleed (but i think all tablets have that so not really a big deal, not worth returning) But there are so many advantages to doing so. Like making a backup of the system.

1.what is the easiest way to root my device? just bought it on sunday and took a update then. have searched online and couldnt find a clear way,
2. is there a way to relock the bootloader? i have already unlocked it in preperation for rooting
thank you guys
if you are already unlocked easiest way is to flash a custom recovery via fastboot. Just look in the thread of your desired Recovery.
Than just flash the rom you like via recovery.
I would recommend Hydro or the new JB Rom from Term
Where would i find the threads for the custom recoveries? Thanks for the quick answer by the way

Hey guys,
So I recently did the procedure to enable NVflash on my TF700, and flashed the AndroidRoot bootloader in the process (over my stock .26). Unfortunately, I forgot to make a backup of the bootloader before doing that.
My question is, is there any way I can get back to a stock .26 bootloader now? A bootloader image file I can download somewhere? I want to do so to get back to stock .26 firmware and then upgrade to stock Jellybean.
Thanks
I'm really curious as to *why* you'd want to do this... If you just want to get to Jelly Bean with the stock bootloader, you can download the full JB firmware from Asus now (it's a FULL install, not just an upgrade like the OTA was) - it will replace the bootloader as well.
I just can't think of any valid reason to revert to the .26 bootloader just to get to get back to the stock bootloader in order to upgrade to JellyBean/stock bootloader.

So can I just run the Jellybean installer to return my tablet to stock (keeping bootloader unlocked of course)?
By the way I have TWRP recovery. So I need to change to stock recovery first to run that file, right?

Actually, just installing the stock JB image from Asus will replace your bootloader and your recovery, so no need to change to stock recovery first...

But I can't find a way to run the ASUS update, since I have TWRP recovery (seems like it requires a stock recovery)... If I start the update from within Android, it just takes me to TWRP. How do I run the file?
Never mind, I just tried installing the ASUS update file from within TWRP, to my great surprise it worked! I thought it was going to brick my tablet, honestly (I have an NVflash backup so no worries). Well, I'm happy, thanks for your help, jtrosky.
I'm pretty confused at the moment. I just unlocked my device using the ASUS app but now I can't find a thread on what to do now so I can start flashing roms. This is what I've gathered so far and correct me if I'm wrong on any of this. So I flash CWM using adb then flash su through recovery then I'm ready to go with stock root without a wipe right?
I'm on version 10.4.4.20 if that helps at all.

The next step after unlocking is to install a custom recovery. If you are already rooted, you can use some app and do it on the device (Goo Manager or ROM Manager?). In any case, you can use fastboot from a PC to flash a blob.
Flashing su is only useful if you don't plan to flash another ROM afterwards.

Nope not already rooted. I'm 100% stock minus the unlocked bootloader. No blobs. I'm really just looking for root permissions on this device, flashing custom roms will come but probably not until Google fixes a few issues with 4.2. I guess what I'm really trying to ask is at this point, do I just fastboot flash the CWM recovery.img, then obtain root privileges by flashing superuser? If it's really that simple this is the easiest device I've ever rooted.

Yes, to root your current stock ROM, that's it.
Ah, almost - the recovery must be in NVidia blob format for the TF700's fastboot implementation. The bootloader only accepts signed blobs for flashing, but after unlocking does not require the signature to match, or even to be actually present.

Do not follow that guide blindly - at least, use a current version of TWRP. Version 2.2 is not compatible with the JB bootloader and may brick your device if you select "wipe data" from the bootloader menu.
This question might be posted somewhere else, and if so, I apologize.
I recently unlocked my TF700 and installed cwm. I didn't realize this would disable the OTA updates. Is it possible to re-enable the OTA updates while keeping cem installed? If not, what is the easiest way to uninstall cwm and re-enable the updates?
I am currently running the 10.6.1.14.8 firmware with a US sku.
Thanks in advance!

After unlocking you will not be able to receive OTAs anymore, not even if you flash back a full stock firmware. Unlocked bootloader = No more OTAs

Yes - but why would you run the stock firmware if you are unlocked and have a custom recovery???
Both CM roms or CROMi-X run circles around the stock rom.
But if you insist on running stock: You can flash the latest Asus firmware in your recovery (full disclosure: I have only used TWRP, don't know anything about CWM but assume it's the same - research it though).
CWM will be replaced with the stock recovery if you flash the full firmware, so you have to flash CWM or TWRP in fastboot again, then you can flash a Superuser package in your custom recovery to gain root.
But it would be so much easier to just flash a custom rom from your current setup - any specific reason you don't want to try it?

It was more a curiosity thing than anything. I haven't had much time lately so I was sticking to what was familiar. Once things slow down, I plan on playing around with custom ROMs to see what I like best. Do you have any recommendations?

Awesome! Thanks for the recommendation! I'll keep this in mind for when I get a chance!
Hello all,
I just got a TF300T and set it up, and with hindsight rather stupidly, OTA'd it to 10.6.1.27.5 (4.2.1)
I have spent quite a while on this forum deciding what ROM's to get etc
and i was going to follow the guides and realised that they are for 10.6.1.27.1 latest and that motochopper doesn't work for that firmware
Just generally, what can I do?
I don't really want to install loads of stuff and get settled in to my tf300t if im just going to wipe it when i root and flash
Will i need to unlock the bootloader?
Are there any other questions i should be asking instead?
Cheers, any help would be appreciated

I've read the motochopper root method doesn't work on 27 versions. So either downgrade to 15 and use motochopper or unlock the bootloader. Unlocking makes things much easier to achieve and maintain, and you can run the latest version with root easily.

- no you can't relock
- yes it is possible to downgrade, however unlike upgrade, downgrading deletes all of your data (so back up first and then downgrade)
I have the latest update on my tf300t and I have it unlocked. However, no method I've tried will allow me to install a custom recovery or get root access. I'm at a loss as what to do. I've tried the motochopper method and I've tried several that have me download files to my sd and try to flash them through recovery. All I get there is a little dead android with an exclamation point. Asus Sync won't even work, so any method that uses that is useless to me...

As previously stated....... you need to downgrade your system. The latest OTA will not allow you to use motochopper. Boot into fastboot, install universal drivers, download ( and verify md5 ) an older 4.2 build, fastboot -i 0x0B05 flash system ( the blob file unpacked ) THEN use motochopper.

I've tried downgrading. But whenever I enter the command prompt it says device not found. The tablet shows up in my drives list and I can view and transfer files. I've updated SDK, checked the drivers and even tried just installing a downgrade through RDK. I even tried using a terminal emulator as well, to no avail.

Are you trying while the factory rom is up and running? If so, You need to be in fastboot mode ( power on holding vol down ). Then try fastboot. You should have asus fastboot come up as a device inside of your device manager.
