Broke my Skyrocket's screen. Screen won't show anything, but phone does power on, I have to pull battery to turn it off. In the process of breaking my phone, the volume tab somehow managed to break off and get lost, so I doubt I can go into the "recovery" mode. Where the plastic piece goes, it has the part that is under the plastic tab, but I can't press it to a "click" or anything. Two metal prongs are showing, I tried to see if they could be "pressed" with a pin, no luck.
I have a lot of important pictures and other data on the phone, just got my new skyrocket through the insurance and was wondering how I could get my data off the broken phone. The only thing I could salvage was my contacts, since I always have a backup of that on my SIM card.
I've tried using the ADB Backup, but that requires me to press on the digitizer to confirm backup, which obviously is broken and won't recognize my pressing on the broken screen.
I was considering ripping the phone apart, taking out the circuit board from the old phone (with the memory chip still soldered on) and put it in the new phone. However, I don't want to risk getting in "trouble" with AT&T or their insurance company. Plus, could that be traced somehow?
Thanks in advanced!
Your computer wont recognize the internal sd when plugged in? There is away to do it with dropbox, but thats dependent on you having and account and it synced with your phone.

I dropped it a few weeks ago and the screen is toast along with the lcd and digitizer. I have it taken apart and I was wondering - what are the chances it will work again? I have debugging enabled and ended up trying to use androidscreencast java program. It will read the internal memory but won't display a screen. Also, the HDMI out occasionally works but it's a little rocky.
My question is this: Is it possible it's fried, or is there a possibility that maybe it is malfunctioning because the digitizer is completely ruined along with the LCD? I have everything still attached including the camera(s).
Right now the screen lights up (though you can't see anything) but my computer won't detect it when plugged in nor will it output HDMI to my TV =(.
Should I spend the money to get a new lcd/digitizer/screen, or should I just give up? I JUST got this phone (no insurance)
How would it be fried if you only dropped it?
As for anything else, for HDMI I have to enable by using the SCREEN, so that might be why you can't use it when connected to your TV.
And for the connection to your computer, mine detects that I have it plugged it, but it doesn't let me transfer files to or from without enabling mass storage, which is again done by touching the SCREEN.
On a side note, I broke the LCD on my Vibrant twice, everything worked fine, just had to replace the screen. Don't know about this phone, but if the phone turns on, then chances are everything is fine. Unless its a software related, such as being bricked.

Phone was at about 70 % plugged in at the time.
I went to check on something and the screen wouldn't turn on. It vibrates when I hold down the power buttons.
Initially I thought it was corrupted somehow so I flashed it using adb, fastboot command. I think I've flashed it properly . I even did it again for the heck of it using wugfresh. I can see it on the PC as Nexus 5.
Now I realize that it's probably the screen. It was dropped in water a few months ago but it's been okay since I replaced the battery. I pull the battery and plugged it in, there was no white battery charging indicator.
Any suggestions ?
Thanks.
Disassemble phone to check morherboard and screen for corrosion. Try to clean the connection points if possible. Depending on the problem you may have to buy a new screen or motherboard or both.
Can you see the internal storage through your computer and manipulate files and whatnot?
One thing you can try that isn't intrusive is to try a Slimport adapter and seeing if you can get the screen to show on a TV/monitor. If you can, that pretty much confirms it's the screen, and you can proceed to do what the above post suggests.

I took it apart and noticed a tiny bit of corrosion through the magnifying glass and cleaned as best as I could.

I can see the internal storage. There's nothing on it because I did a stock re-install but I can see all the folders.
The Slimport adapter is a good idea to confirm if it's a screen issue. I'll look into it to see if it works just by plugging it in . If so, I'll grab one off e-flea.
So voided warranty due to unlock, I gave it a shot.
M8 lost its usb micro port, no charging or pc syncing. I got a replacement, viewed some vids and leapt.
I was able to get the replacement in and it fixed the micro port issue but in trying to reassemble, I have trouble getting the plastic power button insert, to seat and operate correctly. Its super loose and trips the contact/holds down constantly. I took it apart multiple times, cannot get it to work as it was pre-disassembly.
Whats the trick getting the button right? I saw no springs or anything, looks like a super small bearing was found??????, the black hold down tape right where insert sits was torn???????, how does the contact actually trigger with the insert.? If I knew what it was suppose to look like assembled properly.................................
Phone works, except now it will not turn off cuz button goofy. I damaged the NFC circuit with all the handling. Is there a tech drawing with the parts listed? I paid a lot for the bleeping thing, it works I just need to iron out the button really.
links or pics appreciated.

I was recently in an accident that left my redmi note 7 pro damaged and pretty much dead. On taking it to a Mi service center and other local repair shops, I was told the following things:
1. That the display connector chip is broken and the track(a word they use that I believe refers to the copper pins that connect the chip to the cable though not sure as they didn't care to explain in detail) is damaged.
2. The flex charging cable strip is also damaged that isn't allowing the phone to boot up.
I am only concerned with the data on the phone and not the phone itself. I told them all the same thing that I am fine with the display not functioning if the data can be recovered and they didn't seem very enthusiastic about this kind of repair job. Is it possible for the internal storage of my dead phone to be put on another phone and recovered that way?
Or alternatively a way for me to recover the data from the dead phone without being able to enable USB debugging or being able to unlock the screen.
there's always an alternative,
1. You could take phone to some local repairing shop who is expert enough to fix the display connector, and get a display attached to it temporarily till you fetch all your data.
2. You could courier your phone to my location I would really love to lay my hands on it.
(You could DM me if you choose this option)
I really busted up my phone this weekend. The screen is dead and I'm sure the digitizer is as well. I already got a new phone but I would really like to be able to recover my Signal messages. I thought I was backing them up to the SD card but they are actually on the internal storage. A couple questions:
1. Is there any way to be able to control the phone while also using an external display? I tried a couple different Type C dongles that have HDMI and a USB port but neither did anything and even my replacement phone didn't do anything in response. I've got Teamviewer installed that could possibly let me in (don't know if it's set up) but I don't know how to get past my decryption password prompt.
2. Is there any way to make a backup of the filesystem? I realize it would be encrypted but I do know my password if it's possible to somehow use that with some software. I've always had TWRP installed on my past phones so it was trivial to make nandroid backups. This phone is the US version and I had no ability to unlock the bootloader so it's completely stock.
The encryption keys are unique and tied to that current OS load. A factory reset destroys those keys. The password isn't the encryption key...
Unless you can access it remotely this is your only other option.

That's disappointing. I'll got an identical phone now so I may try just following the same finger presses side by side to see if I can get it unlocked and get some sort of remote viewer installed. Another option I thought of is just to replace the screen but that's a bunch of work and would certainly be my last resort. The frame was a little bent but new screens come with a frame so as long as nothing further is damaged, it might work.

Using the new phone as a template may work.
Realize the mobo may have been damaged as well.
Use a good case to protect your new phone.
I use the Zizo Bolt for my N10+, it would've been destroyed long ago without it. Provides excellent protection in 3-4 foot drops onto concrete. Zero damage after 3 years.
Backing up all critical data is the only way to prevent this from happening again, eventually.
Try to find apps that support import/export file backup like Poweramp and ColorNote. Samsung contacts support it too.
I got a new display and tried to migrate all the pieces over. One row of the contacts of the FPC connector on the motherboard were broken off along with some minor damage to the other FPC connectors. I can buy a new flex cable and daughtercard. The phone basically got bent so the FPC connectors and bluetooth cable were pulled sideways. Getting this thing working again would require a new daughtercard, a new flex cable, a new bluetooth cable, and a new FPC connector for the motherboard (yikes) which are all available for little cost. I've actually got the skills and gear to do the connector replacement but just not the time. Maybe I'll do it someday when I've got some freetime at work.
The actual screen replacement was surprisingly easy with a heatgun, a single spudger, and a #00 phillips. I found the FPC connectors much easier to use than the old days when everything used those ribbon cables that would slide into connectors and be held in with plastic clips, they were super easy to damage.
Interestingly, the replacement screen I got has a slightly thicker bezel. It looked legitimate but has a slightly different ending number in the Samsung part number.
Sounds like a mess. Probably more hidden damage.
