I have been looking for a few weeks for a root that works with my model, because most of the methods are outdated. If it helps, here are my phone specs:
Model number
SGH-T969V
Firmware version
2.3.6
Baseband version
T959VUKJ6
Kernel version
2.6.35.7-T595VUKJ6-CL894130
Build number
GINGERBREAD.VUVKJ6
I would like to note that I have a Mac(version 10.5.8), so a guide for a mac, or straight from my phone would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks All.

Thanks for the link, but no success. I really need a mac solution to rooting this nuisance of a phone.
Search in bhundven's heimdall thread (it's stickied in the development section). Antonx kernel will give you root and cwm and voodoo sound and the ext4 lag fix. Heimdall is supposed to work on a Mac. There's talk about it in the thread. Old Mac, New Mac.... idk. I'm on Windows, wish you luck.

The one clicks run just fine on MAC. There .jar files so you just double click it and you're good to go. Heimdall itself is also a cross platform tool so it's easy enough to DL the MAC version of the program from glass enchilada. Your making this harder than you need to.

i bought an android tablet (witstech a81-e) and i know its not going to have the market, or other important pieces, so my question is, if i go into the g1 forum and find a rom to flash on my newly rooted tablet, will it work?
if not, how do i know which ones will work? if none of em work, how do i make one that will work?
help?
Flashing a Rom from g1 section won't work.
... but you should be able to take apps (like Market) from roms to use
.... and building roms is difficult work if you don't know how. No, sorry, it would be difficult for ME to learn all the ins and outs... but if you want to have a go there are some tuts in the "Android chef central" section.
Good luck!

thanks, now i have a direction
first thing you have to do is getting root access. when that's done, try compiling a running kernel and after that you can go to the software-part=)...mfg coach
PS: that's what i think is the order, have never done this on my own (except for building linux kernels^^)

Is there a guide to rooting an android 2.1 operating system? Or are all of the guides device-specific....I'm trying to root a witstech a81-e with android 2.1
This isn't my first android device, and I have rooted once before using my laptop
with major anxiety.
I have since rooted with z4root and have modified my phones using the push button this or that.
I see flashing with Odin or Heimdall, and its all Geek to me
I would love to us this kernel [ROOT] [KERNEL] [RECOVERY] - Root / Voodoo Lagfix / CWM Recovery.
But I am soooooooo at a loss, it sounds reall bad a$$. Can someone just a
simple stupid walk through so I could give this a try. I really don't want to wait for z4root and what ever else might come down the pipe. I wanna make this phone scream.
Also if u can answer, if thew were to come up with an overclock kernel, how hard would it be to replace the one I have flashed to.
I'm sure others who are faint of heart would appreciate such a wak trhough as well.
Thanks in advance
If you're not a n00b, you should know to keep non-development threads out of the development forum.
Just follow the directions here, but instead of using "stockrootedED1", use jt's tar files (there are two, one for the kernel and one for recovery), one at a time.

Thanks; I apologize............
Very desperate is all sure others will appreciate.
hi all,
I'm an absolute newcomer to android and smartphones. I bought a droid charge yesterday and I know I want to root it and install a leaner OS that gives me a lot of flexibility and less bloatware. However, I need to learn some basics before I blunder my way into this.
Looking around this forum, the jargon is all greek to me. Is there a good place to start for total noobs like me?
I'd like to learn:
* best and safest methods to root the phone
* what custom rom's are available
* how to ensure I can restore it to factory condition
If there is a FAQ somewhere that goes through the basics, pleas just point me to it.
Thx and apologies if this is redundant with other posts

Thank you, I'll check that out. But I'm looking for something even more basic, if it exists. Like, what is Odin? What is the different between a Rom/Kernel and a Mod? What is a Theme? Are there any catalogues of the custom ROM's that give comparisons? As a professional software eng, I'll be able to get this done once I get the jargon, but I'm way behind the 8-ball here...
Thx

That was a somewhat polite "RTFM" message. Thanks.
I'm looking for a FAQ or a beginner's guide. Sitting there googleing dozens of terms is possible, but I'm looking for a beginner's resource. But I do appreciate you pointing out the obvious ;-)

There's a great guide in the Android Development section of the Charge Forums that'll shed a ton of light on your situation.
1. I find that the easiest way to root your phone is by flashing through Odin. It's basically a one-click root/flash kernel/rom. Even if Odin fails and your phone is soft-bricked you should be able to recover the phone by attempting to flash through Odin again. I've soft-bricked my Charge several times
2. Altered Beast was the first custom ROM available. Now you have GummyCharged, Eclipse, Humble and various GB molds. I think the main four ROMs available are Altered Beast, Gummy, Eclipse and Humble. I may be missing one but I'm usually on top of this crap
3. You should be able to restore it to factory condition by using Odin or Heimdall. I believe there is a Samsung utility that can be used as well. I wouldn't worry too much about restoring it back to stock
First off, thanks go out to: CrimsonSentinel13, paxChristos, and DooMLorD!
A couple days ago I tested DoomLorD's Xperia X10 Easy Rooting Toolkit [v3.0](zergRush Exploit) on my windows 7 vm after using my [Heimdall][UVKJ6] Back-To-Stock Heimdall One-Click.
Today I was also successful rooting from my debian linux vm using methods 2b and 4 from this page: [HOW-TO] Root Phones w/ Android v2.2.x-2.3.x (zergRush Method)
If you are feeling squeamish, there is also a noob friendly guide in pdf format available.
I hope you find this useful.
Cool. Gonna try it on my dads phone and come back. Thanks.

Great! Let me know how it goes.
I saw another thread where they had taken the same process, but ported to mac and linux. I might test that as well, and if it works, I'll update the op.
Does this work better than SuperOneClick?

Well, I guess the SuperOneClick in the new link in the op now also uses the zergRush Exploit.
Anyways, thanks go out again to CrimsonSentinel13, paxChristos, and DooMLorD for their great howto, guide and hacks!

Hey, cool! I wanted to try a smaller set of testers at first
I'll post in the dev section after I get some testing.
For me, so far so good. Almost an hour on the new kernel.
You know you don't need this thread if you use that kernel.
If you feel like testing, check out: http://rootzwiki.com/topic/11298-beta-kernel-testers/
Nothing fancy going on yet. Just stock kj6 from source with cwm+voodoo lagfix. I just want to build up a QA base for testing changes.
Don't comment about the kernel in this thread. If you don't have a rootz login, please PM me if you find problems.

Touchmate TM-MID810 Rooting Problem
Good day everyone,
I'm new here and I was looking up on how to root my Touchmate TM-MID810 Tablet.
So I tired the ways which were presented here but unfortunately none of them worked for me, also I tried using the Superoneclick v2.3.3.0 but it stucks' and keep giving me the same message (Not Responding) so if someone may have a different way or knows any other way which I can follow to root my tablet device it's be very generous from him/her to explain it to me and help me out here please; and I will be very thankful.
Waiting upon responding.

Yousef

Your both in the wrong forums. Good look for a forum for your specific phone or tablet.
Hi XDA Devolopers,
I can imagine this thread comming by daily. I've tried to search for it, but all I get is something that, to me is, "Hocus pocus". Clearly I am probably one of the least technical people found on this forum, but still I've got a question, and it'd be awesome if you could help me.
As I said: I am unknown with the whole Rooting thing. I have no idea where to begin. All I have done so far is making my decision on which ROM i'd like to use. Which is the JB 4.1.1 AOSP build #6.0.0 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1779133)
I've downloaded all the files, but I have not a clue what to do with that. I've read that you must first unlock and/or root an android device, make a backup and then flash and install the ROM.
Where do I start with this? What program do I use to Root my tablet and how do I go on from there?
Thank you guys so much in advance! It really looks like an awesome community, and I really don't want to mess with that, but help would be greatly appreciated.
search for PERI tool to root and install recovery, then flash the ROM u want through recovery.
Do like catfishbilly say and use PERI.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1681155
Just read read and read, don't rush. good luck.
PERI is the way to go, although everything needs a lot of reading, I was only reading threads for close to a month before rooting and installing ROMs.
Good luck.
