[Q] Ubuntu for android and usb support - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Hello everyone,
I hope I'm posting in the right section.
I have installed ubuntu on android (chroot) on my A500 which as usb host.
Under ubuntu I have installed the usbutils package, and the lsusb command says there are no usb hardware.
So I guess I have to mount dev/usb in ubuntu or something like that but I must say I'm a bit lost.
Has anyone an idea of doing this?
Thank you in advance.

Debian, adb, and virtual box.

Alright, decided to install debian in a virtual box so I could play with the kernel over the weekend. Usb debugging, adb functioning in Windows, Usb mounted in virtual box, however adb doesn't detect it. Ideas?
Did you download the Android SDK for Linux? link
Yeah. Hence me saying adb didn't detect it.
I think you need to enable usb passthrough or whatever you call. That may be in the addons pack that come with Sun Virtual Box
USB capturing is enabled, and both the USB port [0100] and HTC Android Phone (on port [0100]) are both captured.

Before you pull too much hair out, you REALLY need to make sure you have a really recent kernel. I had that exactly problem on Centos 5.3 and upgrade that box to fedora 12 or 13 whatever the latest one.
Have you tried installing Ubuntu using WUBI? It doesn't actually install it... it just puts the files on your Windows partition, and adds an entry for Ubuntu to the bootloader. That might be easier than trying to work out problems with Virtual Box.
This is my mom's computer, so I'm doing VB. Otherwise I'd just through Sabayon back on and dualboot, which is what I plan on doing when i get back to my computer.
I've seen VirtualBox act flaky about passing a USB device over to the hosted OS properly, especially USB-class devices.
Perhaps you could try uninstalling the device as detected by windows and then allowing it to be re-detected before you retry passing it to the VB. Might not work at all, but I have had to 'wrestle' some devices into properly passing-through to the VirtualBox-Hosted OS on more than one occasion.
Good luck either way!
Since this is my last day here, I think I'm just going to wait until I get back to my PC.
I appreciate everyone's help though.

[Q] Bricked/need help

I had to post in the Q&A since i'm a newb here, but my transformer is bricked, and i tried the unbricking method seen in the development thread and I keep getting stalled at "waiting for bootloader to initilize"
does anybody know how i can fix this and get a stock rom on my transformer incase i need to rma it.
I am also running VMware as i do not have a windows pc at the moment, so i don't know if that has anything to do with it.
Any help is much appriciated, thank you.
Not sure, but does VMware support USB devices?
it does, or at least it shows apx mode when it's plugged in. I may need to just try it on an actual windows computer though :/
EDIT: for some reason it worked right after i posted that. I didn't really do anything different, htc-hd2 is just good luck i guess!
Running VMWare on what machine? A Mac ?
Can't you dualboot Windows 7 with BootCamp ?
I dont have a mac, just going on what I have heard
VMware is probably your problem. Boot up a Linux live CD and run this: Stock Honeycomb 3.2 (Actually if you have a mac you can run this too, just run extract the archive and run the bash script from the terminal)
It's a tar ball that I put together that contains the files needed to flash a stock image of 3.2 via nvflash. The archive is about 300mb IIRC.

[Resolved] Using livesuit under linux in a virtual machine running WinXP

Hello everybody,
I could not find any other experiences so far so I'd like to confirm that if someone is trying to use livesuit under WinXP running in a virtual machine in Virtualbox it works perfectly.
Just connect the tablet and then enable the new USB device in Virtualbox, and Windows will pick it up.
The only thing to take care of is that when the tablet is connected, a new hardware wizard comes up. At this point you need to MANUALLY install the drivers in the wizard TWICE before livesuit picks up the tablet.
If someone is having trouble I'd be happy to help.
I'm trying to do this a WinXP virtual machine inside of Mac OS X. Managed to install the drivers once but, virtualbox drops it quickly from the list of usb devices before livesuit can ask me if I want to flash the img
Any help would be appreciated. Sorry if this is a MacOSX specific problem but wondering if you ran into the same problem.
XDA is a forum for Android and Windows Phone devices only. Linux, Windows XP, and MacOS are far outside our scope. Try posting in the computer support thread in the Off-topic section.
