Accessing the Webcam - Microsoft Surface

So I have been trying hard to get RemoteApp to work correctly so I can use chrome on my Asus Vivo RT (which I love). I would love to be able to get the webcam to be recognized but I have had no luck having any desktop apps be able to find or even access the webcam. RDP 8.0 support usb and PnP redirection I have tried every GUID and device ID with no luck, has anyone had any luck getting Apps to access the webcam, seems they made it very hard to do so.

Wifi between Polaris and OS X?

Hello,
is there a possibility to exchange some files between my Orbit 2 and my Macbook (OS X 10.4)? I tried to use a computer-to-computer network but couldn't get it working. So can anyone help me please? Unfortunately I'm new to Apple and Windows Mobile. So please be very precise when you describe what I have to do (think about a DAU² ).
Ah yes: I don't want to synchronise anything (like adresses or so), just wanna exchange some music/videoclips via wifi (hope this is faster than bluetooth where I only get ~100kb/s). Thank you very much!
Hi, I have just started to use SyncMate which is free to sync my iTunes music library on my Mac with my TyTN II. It works really well but I have been using a USB rather than WiFi connection. The program does support WiFi though.
You can download the software from
http://blog.eltima.com/2008/01/sync-your-mac-and-a-smartphone-with-syncmate.html
Although this is sync software it should also be able to do what you want as you can Sync a folder on your Mac with a folder on your phone which will enable you to transfer files to and fro.
Good luck and be interested to hear if the WiFi sync works!
if boths were connected to the wifi router it would be a matter of setting up normal filesharing like between 2 computers
if otherwise one would have to do it as adhoc network
but i dont know how these things are handled on macs
on pc's it the pc sharing would have to be running the server service
and have the pda as a user with reading and writing rights
And BT ? or MissingSync
I have an old iMac and I made some ringtones. I sent them by BT with no problem. I dropped Syncmate cause I got some issues with the calendars and the contacts. MissingSync is perfect but not free. You can install whatever but you need a cable. Will try to check the WiFi
Yes, with bluetooth I managed to send some files. But speed was not that fantastic (~100kb/s). So I'll try to get it working with Wifi. Maybe speed there is better. I got my device recognized by the Macbook and an IP was sent to my phone but I don't know how to access to files. Unfortunately I have no time for the next two weeks to test it any further. Please post your efforts if you have success. Thanks!
So, I already got what I want (even better). I found the freeware MochaSoft FTP-Server. This software has to be installed on your PDA. It youses the FTP-Protokoll. Therefore it lets your PDA act as an FTP-Server. All you need then is an Internet Browser, which has an FTP-Client (for example Internet Explorer or you use the fireftp-extension for Firefox). Now you can access your PDA and exchange files via Wifi. Speed is much better than Bluetooth (~700kb/s read and 680kb/s write). The good thing is, that you aren't limited to the platform anymore. (I don't know if the standard Linux browser has an ftp-client, but my beloved Firefox has a Linux-Version too.)
P.S. @linux-users: Please don't kill me for my last sentence. I believe that linux is able to handle these things out of the box. It's more for us windows users to know that it's possible.

Windows LAN connect help

My notebook (ubuntu) and my Archos % tablet can find my windows desktop lan just fine, but can't sem to get the gtabley to find it, no matter what i put in (Ip, sever name, etc). Any ideas? Tried using the es file explorer and set to lan--also tried ftp.
Try an app called Network Discovery
Try an app called Network Discovery.
I use this app to find all of the devices on my network.
Three printers,WII box,Windows Home Server,Laptops,etc.
Works well!!
Bill
It finds all the IP addresses but no ports open
Windows shares are an issue because of the lack of CIFS support on our device (but there's been a recent breakthrough there, thanks to VS giving us source). The Archos probably has this built-in, already, as well as uPnP.
FTP, however, should "just work" - if the ports on the target are showing as closed, it could be a firewall issue. Suggestion: Test this between two PC's on the same LAN first, to verify that connectivity is there. Then. attempt it from the GTab. Also, make sure the GTab is on the same VLAN as your other devices and that the wireless router isn't blocking connectivity, either.

I don't understand the above. I've been able to access shares on my Windows machines fine, including shares on my Win7 laptop. The only problem I've been encountered were shares on my WinXP machine, where I have to connect anonymously. This was with ES File Explorer on stock 3053.
Jim
CIFS is the protocol that is used to access Windows shares. By default the GTablet does not support this or NTFS. You will need to add this support to the kernel. See:

[XOOM 2] Xoom 2 Software Frustration

Connected the Xoom 2, to a windows 7 machine.
Insists on letting installing 'Motocast' which I let it...what a complete pile of shi*.
I want to 'sync' a 700MB .avi video, over usb cable, to the device...estimated time? 30 minutes!!! I swear this complete toss of software is insisting to re-encode the entire file to some bullsh*t format of their choice. Is there an option to turn this off and transfer it natively?
Secondly, thankfully, it also installs native 'portable' device drivers, allowing Windows 7 file explorer to browse the device. Great, so I copy the same .avi file and paste it to the device...'Do you want to copy xyz.avi? Your device might not be able to play this file' I am prompted...'yes' I click. Just as it finishes copying (after about 4 minutes...much better) it bombs out, notifying me that because the device cannot play this file it is cancelling the transfer...wtf?!?!
The only interim solution i've found is renaming the extension '.avi' to something like '.proprietrysoftwarecansuckmyballs', copying it, then renaming it back to '.avi' once transfer has completed solves this.
So can anyone offer any 'clean' solutions to my file transfer woes? If theres no improvement, this device will be getting returned next week, which is a shame as the tablet is a great bit of kit, its just a shame the software blows.
Look for "Wi-Fi File Explorer" in the market.
This looks like it only transfers over wifi?
I need to transfer over usb cable.
Had this problem myself, looks like it doesn't come with the drivers. After a bit of searching, I found that the standard driver package works:
http://www.motorola.com/staticfiles...al_Drivers/MotoHelper_2.0.53_Driver_5.2.0.exe
Installed that, unplug the USB cable and put it back in - should work fine!

Hey thanks man, that worked a treat.
Just for clarification, does you still prompt you that the device may not support playback of the file, but then successfully transfer it (whereby it would previously error at the last second)?
No idea - haven't had that particular part of the issue myself - the main thing I had was the slowness...
I am a linux user ... i will only have the option to upload files via wifi network ?
I have a Xoom 2 ME and the only way to copy a large movie file to the device was adb.
adb push foo.txt /sdcard/foo.txt

That's the only usb-way i come up with. I'am on snow leopard and Google's Android File Copy tool does not work.

I guess the same way will work to linux too . Xoom2 has only one partition on the disk ? that the reason not to be able to mount it as a normal usb ? If you root the device is the anyway to great a small 2 Gb for ex partition to use it for easy transfer ?
Off topic about xoom 2 ME . How good the screen and and the battery life are ?
Useless tablet ?
In fact it's worst!
As a Linux User I hoped being able to use MTP... But I tried mtpfs and mtp-tools on several distributions without any luck.
But what is worse is that FTP server applications won't work too! I tried SwiFTP, FTPServer, and some other: the servers are not reachable. It appears that not even a single ping can reach the tablet. I think Motorala have put some kind of firewall in it (maybe it has something to do with the netflix HD certification?).
For me this tablet is actually useless. If I can't find a way to transfer some files on it without using MotoCast today or tomorrow, I will bring it back to the supplier...

You probably hit it on the head about the Netflix certification. I would think about returning it, man.
a solution ?
Thanks to a French forum (frandroid, in the Xoom 2 topic... sorry I can't send links here), I tested a solution to the transfer problem: It is possible to use (on the computer) a server to share the files such as a samba server.
It works fine. But it's not as easy to browse, select, copy and paste file with explorers on the tablet than it is on computers (several windows, keyboard shortcuts such as Ctrl-c/v, and so on).
But it's now possible to exchange files with the Xoom 2ME without going through a cloud or using Windows/motoCast.

Sorry for answering so late.
The screen is quite good.
The battery life is terrible compared to my ipad2. Charging needs a lot of time and is very slow. I guess it's because of mini usb only.
Currently i'am using the device as a Kindle Fire replacement, because off the lightweight (KF is heavier and bulky). The books i usually read have more weight than the device itself.
I like it for that.
But i may not be a good adviser because my device is a prototype. It is not smooth and the speakers are terrible.
I think 8,2" is the perfect size for me. The weight is so much better than any other tablet i had.

Try using a terminal on the Xoom 2 and ping the computer you're trying to connect to, while pinging your Xoom 2 from that computer at the same time. It's like you have to force them to see each other before they can start connecting in future.
I used fileexpert to see and download files with smb shared folder on Ubuntu Linux without a problem.

[Q] Is this possible? (Access Windows via Thumbdrive plugged into modem)?

Cant figure out where else to ask this but you all seem to be the brightest group of computer users I know.
I may be dreaming on this technology and I cant find much form web searches here is my thought please let me know if it or something similar would work.
Have a thumb drive running an OS (Ubuntu, or Windows 7,8 whatever) that is plugged into a USB input on a cable or WiFi modem. So technically this thumb drive is always on or I can somehow access it to turn it on. Now the tricky part. I would like to access this windows or Ubuntu via my android table or my note 2 and use it as though it is my desktop (as needed). I see I can use apps like "Jump" to access a freestanding computer with internet connection but wondering if I can take it a step further and just have everything housed on the thumb drive.
I ask this because I recently lost my tablet due to display issues. I am interested in alternatives before I go buy another full on computer.
thanks in advance for the assistance.
It sounds like you are asking for two separate things, booting from a USB drive, and accessing that computer via a tablet. For the first, you can use a program such as Unetbootin, to create a bootable linux distro onto a USB drive. With that, you should be able to have a fully functional linux distro on a USB stick. For the windows equivalent, you could try WintoFlash. As for the second part of your question, if you enable SSH on your computer, you should be able to SSH tunnel into your computer from any other device that has SSH. As android devices already allow themselves to be SSH'ed into, I don't see why you wouldn't be able to use it to access your computer remotely.

Thanks for the info! Yes you are correct I am trying to do both those things, however I am trying to do it without the need of a physical PC. I kind of want this boot able thumb drive or whatever to be my PC that I can access whenever needed. I am thinking this is kind of like a virtual server but I dont know how those are housed. i have heard there are cable modems with a USB drive on them to allow them to act as a server if I could just access my boot-able windows or Ubuntu thumb drive that is in the cable modem that would be what I'm wanting.
Does it have to be a USB device? If not, you could look into using a Rasberry Pi to do just that. If you want to have your own virtual server, you would need some sort of physical PC or other device, although if you only want to have a box that just constantly hosts VM's, you could look into running your own ESXi server. with ESXi, you could just turn on the box and any computer on the network should be able to use the VM's that are being hosted on the server. However, you do need the VM tools to do it so I do not know if you can use an Android Tablet, unless you figure out a way to SSH into the VM without using the tools or porting the tools over to Android.

Well it can be anything really just prefer not to go through having a "box" if I can skip all the steps and just access it to run the OS. That raspberry Pi looks pretty cool wonder if there is something similar out there to run a windows OS. Looking at it if I rooted my phone apparently i coudl run Ubuntu on the phone
yes, basically you would just run a virtualbox on your phone and SSH into it as a localhost. It works the same way for SSHing into an actual box. The problem is that you wanted windows OS, and windows 7 uses at least 20 gb in storage just for the OS alone, therefore it would be impractical to run it from your phone. If you want windows at some point you will need to have a box even if it is just running as a server.

Can i set up a cloud server using an android device?

Looking for a way to setup a rooted android device as a dedicated cloud server to allow on the fly storage for phones and computers, is there any way to use a android tv box or android device of any kind as a cloud server to access it over any network away from home with my phone or laptops etc for example? The idea being use a usb external hdd on my ouya that's rooted and access it online somewhere or anywhere using any mobile device or computer trying all manner of ftp apps, but they allways seem to expect you to use a pc to access the ftp address any I try to join via a browser just fail to open to view files, I would have thought it's easily possible and the whole plan is to have a cheap electricity cost android device as the cloud server. Maybe provide others access to set folders to save stuff and access stuff to. I asked tonido cloud if their app supports android as the server not just access as a client it but it doesn't else would have set it up. Meanwhile I'll keep trying apps and looking back here to see if anyone can come up with something thanks in advance.
