Hello Xplay users !
I initially posted this in dixperia2 thread but there's no reason you wouldn't try this in your roms
If you didn't know there is an app called seeder in this thread ( a thread witch grows every second) it worked for me and killed almost all the lags I had with my Play ,
everything is smoother than before ( for real ) !
I used to overclock my Play to 1.3ghz like the op recommended to have good performance but now I reverted to 1ghz with seeder activated and it's way better than before !
The app is not/not obviously working for a bunch of devices (especially the latest high end ones) but for my 1ghz/512mo it definitely makes a difference
there is also a controversy about HOW seeder works and if it harms battery but I didn't notice anything for 2 days now
The installation and uninstallation are easy just take the latest one (seeder apk v1.1) and make it launch at boot
The official thread is saturated with all types of comments so can we discuss here our experiences with seeder for our device only ?
I use lupus kernel V6 for GB and Ondemandx with SIO , with 170mo of zram
So just install the 1.1? Set on Boot and then what? Should i keep it or uninstall? How about a better installation process? Can i uninstall it afterwards?

sorry for that I totaly forgot about the dev section as I supposed this app is more likely to be in the "app" section !
@bhavei you just need to tap "activate" and tick "on boot" that's all , if you want to remove the tweak and all what it does just uninstall seeder
In the main treath there are more files... I tryed the 1.0 alpha and 1.1, but no diference at all... May be it requires another way to install it completely...
I'm wondering.
install ONLY version 1.1 , a common issue is the app doesn't get root permissions so check if it's the case
In my case I noticed that apps open quicker and multitasking has improved
There's a flashable zip also

Any disadvantages, you people who have tried it, that you want to share?
I tried it, and right now i see immediate removal of lag of games that i play that are usually laggy. I would have to test it for days (it could be placebo) before i decide if this really works.
I read some of the threads discussing it, and all i can say right now (in layman terms) is that:
According to the app maker, there is lag coming from random number generation, because the os itself did not prepare enough cached random numbers. There seems to be lag when the a random number is requested and the one prepearing the random number (a file called '/dev/random') has no random number ready to give (like you just woke up somebody and he has to give you something, i guess lol).
According to some respectable android experts, nobody uses '/dev/random' but those security stuff (ssl etc.), so it does not really work.
My 2 cents: Random numbers are obviously used in games. It may also be used in special effects. Maybe it fixes those stuff. Although from what i read, those random numbers does not use the affected file '/dev/random' (i am not sure about this, any experts?).
Well right now it is working for me. According to cpu spy, i still have deep sleep and the cpu does not work like it is always in 'performance' mode.
Well that's disappointing. The title of the thread says project butter for gingerbread, and I was like "where have I been?!?!", but no. No project butter for me. :crying:
Pocketnow made a video on how this actually works and it reveals that it doesn't really help, but instead it makes the phone run at a higher frequency for longer, so it seems like it performs better.
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FhH4Gf8Az5o
it will not be obvious for a nexus7-quad-core-possessors to see if it helps with lags (because a nexus7 isn't supposed to have lags) , if you have a nexus7 and it lags then there is a problem in the first place !! and again , no one seams to know HOW it works the only thing a can assure you is that it doesn't eat battery while gives better performance in my Xplay
It does help and it's built in to turbo kernel

Playing Snes9x with internet 2d/edge activated about 35 minutes my battery drops about 20%. (oc 1.1 ghz)
With seeder installed my consumption now is 13%
if manuacturers and android developers taked more serious time to optimize our devices instead of doubling numbers of cores every year we would have experienced jellybean in older devices. I'm envying iphone users only for this point.
I'm using this file with my rooted stock rom and kernel. I don't see any advantages and disadvantages. All looks same.

I've got a sgs+ I updated to android 2.3.5 from 2.3.3 it improved the overall lagginess abit. I have tried almost everything not too difficult to smoothen things out because I'm not really into custom rom kinda deep stuff. For instance, temple run, lags every 10 secs and I fail. Angry birds? Same thing. My buddy with SGS "classic" does not have any of these kind of problems.

If you want to have a better gaming experience (no lag..) you can either buy a phone with a stronger cpu, or root (which is really easy) and see if there is any custom kernels available for your device. With a custom rom and kernel you can make your phone more powerful than it is by increasing the speeds of your cpu. Phone's that don't have enough power don't play certain games well. I know you said you aren't into roms... It's really not that complicated. There is no way to make your phone more powerful, than to root and install a custom rom and kernel... Hope that helped.

The only problem with that is that the sgs+ has a 1.4ghz processor *COUGH*. its a single core but 1.4 is more than enough for temple run or angry birds. have you checked what programs are in the background? maybe there is a process that is polling every few seconds and lags the phone.

Yeah my phone too can get pretty laggy crashy and unstable when I am using it allot without turning it off.
ICS on my Samsung Gio lagged allot so I had to switch back to an earlyer version which increased my CPU performance by 400%, (however, graphic performance change was almost negligible)
You could also try something like a2sd, if you already have something like that your SDcard might be slow. (I suggest you get some confirmation on this one from more experienced android users before actually going and buying a new one, since I am quite new to this whole android stuff).
Hope I could be of service,
R.
You probably have a lot of apps running at the background. Try installing a 3rd party app manager and end all apps. I mean all. Should work. If not then your phone has a problem. SGS+ SHOULDN'T lag behind the SGS not unless the SGS is rooted.
What is your "better phone for games"? Will it be released for ever?
Buy an iPhone for 0 lag gaming.. Android has some lags.
If you don't want to root and install ROMs then pretty much your only option is to uninstall unnecessary services and apps. Try uninstalling an app, testing the game, and keep uninstalling untill you know which app is possibly the offending one.

My dad barely let me root to make a backup before updating. (my phone but still) And then there is warranty, I already have problems with GPS. I'm probably not going to do that. Thanks for trying, thanked.

Rebooting helps for some 10 minutes, I really don't want to reboot that often. My phone goes 40-50fps but lags 1/4 seconds every 10 secs. I sometimes get bigger fps drops when playing reckless racing 2. I guess that is for dual core processors, but mostly it runs fairly well apart from those little lags

It drains your battery and has your processors trying harder with a ram drainage. Absolutely USELESS.

hello
dear user it may occur to you that sometimes when you apply a custom rom to a phone it is now built right for that phone because of all the different specs to that phone so it would be best advised to stick with the set defaults if you don't realy know what you are doind (like me) but also you could try and root is (universil androrot) and then use some programs like memory booster or just un install some apps from your device all together so free up some of the phones memorry.
hope it helped daveveej.

I know that the same changes can be achieved through other (free) means , but i was wondering if anyone tried it?.. i have a friend that swears it works.
Yeah I have it on my phone and I'm using it together with Ram Booster v1.25 (need to test it without the latter to see just how much that contributes). The result is I'm playing NOVA 3 in all it's full HD glory with very little lag. The game does run a 'tad' bit slower in general but because it's uniform throughout the game it just feels like it's the way it's meant to be played.
Really? Wow thats great to hear , i might buy it to see if its really worth it.
Have you tried using autokiller , ram manager or V6 supercharger though?
Looks interesting. Would love to see if there's a free alternative though.
Okay maybe its a placebo effect , but im getting playable framerates when i use it in combination with Ram Manager pro on hard gaming, playing The Amazing Spiderman . AFAIK Gamebooster also does something similar to RMP , but it seems to be less agressive .
I also have supercharger , but i only use it to lock my launcher , nothing else.
Hey Drivenby, been a long and busy day at the studio so haven't had an opportunity to get back to you till now. Haven't used autokiller , ram manager or V6 supercharger, will have a look at them. I am using Chainfire 3D Pro however to increase the graphical quality of some of my games (like NOVA 3), but you probably figured that already.
This all shuts down all the other apps and even prevents the them from trying to boot and regains system memory.
It has its own overcloked setting after ultra gaming mode but I then can normally be change it. I really recommend this app.
Sent from my R800i using xda app-developers app
Tried it with Metal Slug 3 but got to the same bit as I usually get to before the phone starts lagging like hell (Was In Ultra Mode Aswell)
Yeah it really depends on what type of system you are running . The app does work for some games but its obviously not adding more ram or doing the developers job of optimizing a game for our specific GPU . Some games do seem to work better with Ram Manager Pro on hardgaming , rather than Gameboost.
And ultra doesnt really overclock , it just sets the governor to performance , as far as i can tell. The dev claims it lowers other processes too but i dont know how to check if thats true or not.
on my opinion , gamebooster is better that rambooster and ram manager, it decreased glitch on my phone , now it's easy to play BATMAN

Yeah about v6, AFAIK it changes the oom kill values, which game booster does too, so there might be some conflict.
On my experience v6 is excellent to increase performance with the Android ui and multitasking, it makes everything really snappy but at a cost.
Let's say you have the regular stock launcher and have 3 o 4 widgets and a billion icons... If you have supercharge your launcher you might make it nearly impossible for the system to kill when needed.
I think that running most games, you should have no problem with this, but with the likes of recent game loft games that are known resource hogs, you really need everything the device has to offer, and while killing the launcher might make your device post game laggy for a couple of seconds, the whole point of the xperia play is to play games and if you can't do that well, it kinda defeats the purpose.
Right now I'm trying to keep the lightest configuration possible, while still getting everything I need and more.
Currently using lightning launcher, because it's fast, simple and runs with as little as 6 mb. Only one widget too. I guess I could try super charging it, but android has never killed it that I noticed, or maybe it just redraws super quickly.
Personally went back to ram manager pro, I think the ultra settings for game booster are not optimal for gaming or something, I swear I'm getting more ram but less performance, which doesn't really makes sense but whatever.
Also it has a couple of bugs that need to be ironed out. I'll check it again when the next version comes out.

So... My J performs a little... bad. Most likely that I got that retarded faulty one. My RAM is never above 150mb free, mostly around 100mb. Antutu benchmark was around 4000 if I remeber correctly. Games are not performing well (and I'm not talking about über games). FreeCiv crashes quite often, probably because lack of RAM. Etc. Is it known to be like that? I'm all stock and JB. Would CM10 help me? And also, what is that actually? What does it change?
Thank you.
CM10 will help, i think that. For me, help a lot, just try, i will never back on stock, its my opinion. Try the new version FXP220 for J.
Games like Ravensword2 or other 3D working well.
I'm running stock JB and root my phone, then delete some useless applications like Facebook, Timescapes etc. Now my phone running fast & smooth, I've use cm10 for sometimes but its not as smooth as stock rom, and my first concern is the camera quality,
Stock rom has like 10x better quality.
Also stock rom has better battery performance.

first of all think of what you want from your phone and then decide
If u want smoothness in your ui and overall performance root you phone and deleted some unwanted bloatware system apps
if u don't care about smoothness but favour performance go with cynaogen mod as its a minimal ui and much better performance...
PS cyanogenmod is just stock pure android with lot of customization options from overclocks to performance tweaks

Those are basically performance scripts which provide various performance tweaks like ram management and all
I would suggest if ur a newbie to root and stuff u root and delete bloarware apps and see the performance if ur not satisfied flash custom rom like cyanogenmod and then if still not happy then play with scripts like v6 as scripts are bit complex

That's not totally right a percentage of ram is set aside for user apps and games which are never cached by the system so the free ram is needed and heavy games need a lot of free ram to run propperly. Evan cached system processes are killed after 30 minutes by android by default so free ram will change up & down as its killing processes just to restart them again the system is wasting ram. Zepplinrox's v6 supercharger changes this as one of it's features from 30 minutes to 24 hours so the system uses less ram and has more free ram for user apps and games.
Running the scripts is not rocket science there really easy read the original thread if that seems intimidating then read the noob tutorial which goes through step by step.
Hi,
I'm using a Xperia J with Cyanogenmod 10.1(month ago installed) and the NeutronMP, because I have some 24 Bit/96kHz flacs, which only NeutronMP undestands them. The little better Quality is a reason too. But every time, when I'm using this, i get some heavy lags and most of the time listening to music isn't very nice.
Firstly, what's the reason for that? Too low CPU/RAM, low performance on sd card? Every time I've looked in task manager, it seems to be (relative) normal. In addition, i haven't got any performance hungry apps running in background.
Secondly, how can I reduce this? What would be most effective?
Thanks in advance,
Lg

I stuck with stock when I got my J, I did however flash a new kernel to allow me to overclock to 1.3ghz. Do a search for vengence kernel and flash that. Don't flash the newest one though, stick with v1.40 (later versions do not have oc facility)
You see, most people think OC actually speeds up their phone, well it doesn't. Only wastes battery, get CM 10 and use Riches Kernel or use my ROM if you want a stable and fast jellybean.
Of course overclocking speeds up the phone. You are increasing your CPU speed to the maximum that the hardware will allow. Yes there will be slightly less battery life, but that's a given. Its swings and roundabouts. Personally I find that there isn't a noticeable difference in mine (I still get 2 days on regular usage), but with the extra 300MHz I get from overclocking I no longer have the heavy lagging I had on the stock kernel. If there are no benefits from oc, how do you explain all the tests that prove you wrong?

My phone only is lagging, when I'm using NeutronMP, never with other apps. (I don't use other performance hungry apps like games, but anyway.)
I asked this, because I've had the same problems when I've used NeutronMP with the stock android.
@ all: thanks for your replies.
Yes.
Lag.
Even the word sounds so annoying.
LAAAAG.
One way or another, it gets to you.
No matter how many tweaks you have installed, no matter how many mods you have installed.
It gets to you. No matter what ROM you use.
Yes, although I'm sorry to say, even on XboosT the lag very, very slowly, very gradually, sets in. (ABSOLUTELY NO OFFENSE TO DEV. I still love you )
And I go berserk , wanting to throw my phone out the window.
Why?
Till now, in all of the 3 ROMs that I've tried, (Stock .23 CM10, and XboosT) the lag does set in, no matter what you do. Isn't there a solution? I know my phone is low-end, but if it can handle the load(proved by the gr8 just-after-flash performance), why does it LAG?!
Is it just me?
Or are others on the same boat too?
How do you tackle with LAG?

I use cm10 and stock without any lag.[well, stock is almost without any lag]
How do I tackle lag?
Flash pure performances+v6 supercharger+greenify+seeder.
I honestly don't face any lag in cm10 at all.
[In gaming I do,I'm talking about the ui]

Yeah sure, CM10 is good.
But I'm centred around gaming...
I believe you must have noticed that sometimes games run so silky smooth that you could kiss the screen.
But then, out of the blue it lags like hell.
That is what irritates me.

That is because other system apps run in background
Buy greenify pro[donation pack or something] and hibernate a few system apps which take a lot of ram.
That sure will solve the problem.
PS: This is not a gaming phone,so you shouldn't be expecting too much out of it.
Try to use blur cm10 .. It works almost no lag

You lucky, lucky J people.
I get lag only in big games, like GTA Vice City and Asphalt 8. I'm downloading Asphalt 7 right now, to see if it works.
For anti-lag, I OC to 1.3 Ghz, set the governor to performance, allow purging of assets and kernel samepage merging (all this from Settings > Performance in CM10). Then I greenify everything Google and then some other stuff.
I haven't used XBoost for too long (just long enough to know I liked CM better, sorry Xmoose), so I can't comment on how good its gaming performance is.
Another thing - keep all the heavy games in the part of the storage dedicated to apps. That place is extremely fast, comparable to a Class 8 microSD.
What do you expect from a Snapdragon S1 and an Adreno 200? You can install over 9000 placebo-tweaks, but not remove lag because hardware can't handle the games.

Nothing much. Just graphics and performance equivalent to a Nexus device. Any Nexus device.

the irony our snapy s1 (x -j/-e) is better than snapy s2 cause we have a new rev and our adreno200e isnt bad at all , i can play rr3 nearly lagless XD
(cm10 or lxt rom with riches kernel)
https://www.youtube.com/user/MrSlawsi5
Every games I presented on stock or cm10 but not my modyfication
On my modyfication of cm10 everything works much better!!!
Today I bought N.O.V.A 3 from Google Play and everything works perfect, without any lags at all
I'm using my modyfication of CM10 without any tweaks etc.
Bro, ive got a nice solution for your problem
1)Return to stock 11.2.A.0.31
2)Flash the venegeance kernel that have the overclock option to 1.3 GHz
3)Install a RAM Booster like clean master
Thats will help you
If you want a ROM that helps you in gaming her you go http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2527939 AlienRom
Nice ROM with many performance tweaks like (ZRam,PurePerformance Gold Edition,Riches Kernel that have overclock to 1.5 GHz  not 1.3 as venegance and etc....)

Well, when I bought this phone, I knew gaming would be hard... And I was right. Even games like Line Runner lag(Line Runner, come on!). Sigh. I don't even care anymore . One thing I've learned from my phone, is patience. This phone was actually meant as a cheap replacement for my S2, which died. Had no warranty anymore, and Samsung gave me 60 bucks, if I sent the phone to them(long story). So yeah, here I am.
I'm thinking of buying an Oppo N1 or a Nexus 5 next month. But I'll see. Until then, I have to live with my little E.
My situation: stock and Link2SD running.
Have a nice day!

Haha. I'm still planning to . But I also have to purchase a new calculator for school(€80!). Mine got stolen... So it will take some time to build up enough money! I'll see.

It all depends on the things installed on your phone, tweaks will kinda improve performance. But like the other guy said don't expect humongous feats from a crappy S1 processor and another crappy Adreno 200
Xperia J's Successor Xperia L already has S4 Plus Chip with Adreno 305. Ayayay sony
