tmobile data cap

blah sadly today tmobile capped by data, because i went over the`5gb limit. is there a way to uncap it, or at least does anyone have an idea?

It took me just a week to get my data capped. Its because id rather use my phone and get 8mbps instead of my home Internet which is sadly 0.4mbps. I don't think its possible to get the cap removed. Your going to have to wait till your next cycle.

I thought they just throttle it and not cap it?

I thought that for Unlimited Data they just drop you down to 3G after you've used 5GB on 4G.

It is my understanding that they throttle you pretty hard at 5 GB, to GPRS or EDGE speeds.
If you haven't deleted it, My Account will show your usage. I use 3G Watchdog which will straight-line predict your end-of-month usage as well.
For people not used to the speeds available, it isn't hard to chew up 5 GB in a month. For example, if you stream 128 kbps radio for an hour in the morning and an hour on the way home, that is about 3.3 GB of payload, so probably 3.5-4 GB of data transfer a month.

Yea man they bone you pretty hard after you go past 5gb. I went from 4g to edge smh, I am aboit to calk and complain. I am pretty sure there was a way to get passed it on the vibrant, after things get settled for the galaxy s 4g I'm sure we will be able to do the same.

Yeah I thought it was 10gb too but once I passed 5gb they sent me a message and throttled my speed to edge speeds.

Thats not worth it. Every carrier has a cap even if they advertise that they don't. I've read on the internet that on sprint people get throttled and maybe even get their accounts canceled going over a certain limit. I think tmobile's is the best option right now.

Thats wrong, Sprint is the only carrier with true unlimited. Although there data speeds are the worst of the big four. I barely got 1mbs on 3G and around 4mbs on 4G. When i could get a signal, witch sucks cause i live in KC. Sprints headquaters is here, I could no longer take the slow speeds and went back to tmo where i have 4G everywhere I go. Usually around 8mbs and i have 3G around 5mbs.

LOL... I just read that about a hour ago... LOL... I was just about to say that also... I dont like AT&T slow network, plans that dont fit any user, and will find out if you unlocked a cool feature and will try to charge you for it ( like the folks that use their iPhones to tether ) ...

Your prices are locked in as long as you stay with them. The prices may get even better now that together that will be bigger than Verizon and start trying to beat eachothers prices. Not to mention with any luck better service area. Still not that excited to see them merge.

Those are miniscule problems, i'd ask 350 obo to avoid people trying to low ball that 250 into something like 220-200.

I haven't had an issue with it.I just.keep getting BS charges on my bill so I just wanna pay my phone and etf ima toss it on the clist see what happens I guess I'm going to sprint hahaha

What's simple mobile ? idk if they even have that around here hahaha anything to get out of this I had tmobile years ago and there customer service was way more chill seems like theyre all sitting on sticks now I posted it on craigslist see what I find I don't mind being without a phone for a couple days this thing is awesome tho ill never talk bad about this phone

Simple Mobile is like prepaid T-Mobile service. Know a friend who has it. Same coverage, no contract no bull.
I did the Straight Talk Experiment. $47 for unlimited everything. Only 2 problems. Its EDGE, and you have to monkey around with the APN to get Data and MMS to work.
But at that point, best advice I can give you is just Sell the G2X, get a unlocked phone with 3G speeds for AT&T radio, and get Straight Talk. Port your number to google voice. Oh, and don't get caught, cause its Illegal, break TOS if you get caught using Straight Talk on non-straight talk phone.
But like post earlier, go prepaid. Simple Mobile is best option.

I don't mind 60 bucks I was.looking at there site they actually sell this phone.but it only saids 3g but the mytouch said 3g 4g don't they run on same.bands?

Look online. My simple mobile. I use it and it flows on the T-Mobile waves. Get 4g etc. Using Miui ROM and its all good. Works with any ROM but have found Miui is the best with Simple.

Miui keeps dropping my data when I'm on wifi idk why, I'm using weapon and I dig it I checked simple and I think that's my best bet I just hope data speed aren't horrible

Got throttle but they claim thy haven't

Only getting 0.1 download but when i switch the apn i get fast data. Any suggestions.

They also gave me a $30 credit and are still claiming i haven't been throttled.

When throttled there is an obvious note on the account on their end that the phone has been throttled.
What department did you speak with, and what is your current data usage

4.2 gb of data used and i spoke to data support. Cycle ends on the 20th.
My speed using the new apn. Its not a big deal because im not in a LTE area yet but its just the principle of it.

Same thing is happening to me right now. Only used 1.8gb of data and I'm getting 0.05-0.1 speed. I called AT&T and they told me that I'm not throttled, my cycle ends on the 18th. I don't know wtf is wrong with AT&T but I'm sick and tired of the crap they're pulling. I won't be surprised if they start throttling unlimited data users around 1-2GB. I guess I'll be using my monthly 4G T-Mobile sim for now.

So your saying they credited you the price of the data plan for getting throttled?
Now I'm seriously tempted to go try this, even though I'm not throttled, because I really love screwing AT&T.

They credited me for $36 to be exact. They're the ones who stated that i shouldn't be throttled, so why should i pay for service that isn't working. Everytime they screw up, they should credit your account. People who let them slide are crazy.

The exact same thing happened to me. I called and they said I wasn't throttled but I was getting .18 d/l but 1.10mb u/l. I changed the apn to get my speeds back and the last day of my billing cycle I changed it back to the pta apn. I never got a 5% warning but got some weird message about my account but it never warned me about my data.

I usually just use the skyrocket to do a quick login and do what I need to do. Since AT&T is throttling for no reason now, i'm gonna tether my laptop for work off my skyrocket. I usually would never do that but they clearly are throttling me and not admitting it.

Same here. I called ATT cs and actually got to tier 3 support they said I was not Throttled. But admitted that there had been several reports. They suggested I use an Alternate APN (that was a suprise). I was already using the "phone" APN hack that is discussed in another thread. It is hard to tell the BS from the truth with them. They said they would get back to me, but I am not holding my breath. Hope my alternate APN keeps working. BTW I am not in a LTE market.

I've get throttle every month, I wouldn't be surprise if at&t it's doing some fault play here. I when from using 500 mb to 1.5 gb to 4-5 gb's per month. How? I'm not doing nothing different here the same occasional Facebook, web, YouTube ect I was doing 6 months ago. On another note 3gb for $30 is still to low at&t I'll say 5gb is about right for $30

They already are. I hit 2,000 MB smack dab on, and throttled instantly.

AT&T offered to exchange my phone - without admitting that i was throttled.
the only way i could confirm i was throttled was:
1) my speeds (lol)
2) if i log into www.att.com/wireless and look at recent data usage, my "2041 mb of unlimited" is in RED - and normally its in green
im at 40gb now after 3 days of being throttled (few tricks, hspa, phone apn, then lots of netflix etc)
wonder if i can push 100gb this month

Very interesting indeed. They claimed yesterday that there has been no change in policy. Users will continue to be notified and unless the user is speaking to the wrong person, there is no reason one would be told they are not throttled when they are.

New to Verizon

Hey guys. I'm not new to android. I've had an android phone for over 3 years. I was wwith Sprint for 13 years, but got tired of there horrible and inconsistent network. The unlimited data I was getting was at home when I was connected to my WiFi.
Sitting in my living room with Sprint talking on my E4GT was was unbearable. If I wanted to talk I had to use my land line. I'm amazed at the speed and sound quality since switching to Verizon. I'll be lurking in two weeks and looking to root my white S3.

Welcome, Sprint refugee here too, amazed at the network quality, and you'll find a lot of ex-Sprint folks have switched over to the red side as well. Don't let "cost" warnings scare ya, not that bad really especially if you use wifi at home. Unless you use a boat load of data you'll find the cost comparable. I share 4gb with my wife and find the bill maybe ten bucks higher a month. Well worth it for me to have no dropped calls and a blazing fast network. It will be interesting to see if Sprint lives up to their LTE promises better than the wimax effort and keeps it unlimited. If so maybe I'll go back after this contact is over if for nothing else their phone selection. Anyway welcome.

Wow, it's amazing all the converts from Sprint. I think I stuck with them because the unlimited data, but only one time did I go over 1gb. I would turn in WiFi as soon as I got home. My question is how does Verizon calculate data? I've had this phone for only 24 hours and the my Verizon app says I've used 103mb of data. How can that be, I did all my updates at home on my WiFi?

I am an ex sprint user as well. I git all the same high price warnings. No issue for me it's actually 30 bucks a month cheaper. And if your coming from sprint the data speeds will make you cream lol. I got the 4 gig plan and have yet to clear 2 gigs. Over all I'm very very very happy.

I'm another Sprint user (until Friday) jumping over to Verizon. During my Internet speed tests, I never saw a number in front of the decimal point... Now I'm supposed to get TWO DIGIT numbers in front of the decimal point? Incredible.
I hate Sprint so much. I will miss my phone, but the GSIII will make up for that quickly I bet.

Same deal with me. Came from Sprint. Service is awesome so far, the prices are ridiculous though. Probably going to look to get on my parents family plan actually. The individual ones are terrible.

yup, i'm a switcher to big red. Sprint had terrible data speeds, and barely any service indoors.
Verizon is where its at in terms of network coverage and data service.

I don't understand the price complaints either. These new shared plans are terrific. I used to look at Verizon and it would cost like 30 more per month for them. Now it will cost me $2 more than Sprint a month! No that's not a typo either. My bill with Sprint (my wife and I) was 128 plus tax. With Verizon, sharing 4 GB, it'll be $130 a month plus tax (both prices include my employee discount). Awesome switch! Now to get out of that ETF... I'm working on that now, haha.

I switched from Sprint also <.< I couldn't deal with the dialup speeds I was getting on my S2

I swapped from sprint as well I couldn't deal with the .05 dl speeds but I am lucky I got 2 unlimited LTE plans from a friend so I'm still good to go on data.

I switched from Sprint to get my rezound previously. I do not miss sprint whatsoever.
80 a month for my big red plan with actual unlimited good speeds.

I moved from T a few weeks ago. Optimus T to GS3 reading over stuff man I feel dumb again. Did get rooted and a recovery but still trying to catch up on the rest. AHHHH TEchno~ologees! :cyclops:

for the people that are on Straight Talk $45 unlimited plan.
What are the data limits / warnings?
are there any speed restrictions?
How do you like the service?
I do not live or work where there is ATT LTE and looking to cut down my bill. I usually use prepaid when traveling so dont need international. Any feedback would be loved.

I recently switched over to ST a week ago. Porting my number went smoothly. It took no more than 2 hours to get everything working (need to change APN settings). I don't know about data cap/limit, but from what I've read, try not to go over 100mb/day or 2gb/month. So far so good for me. I haven't noticed a difference in reception or data speed compared to AT&T. The only difference is that I feel RICHER. Haha!

2gb a month wont be a problem most of the time, however I do sometimes go over 100MB a day.

hey i got straight talk its ****ing awesome no bull **** caps or anything
and on tmobile side you get full hsdpa+ i see around 10 megs a sec around here
