Porting Android 2.3 (Gingerbread)

Hey devs,
Recently HTC released HTC Wildfire S which has same processor as Mini,same resolution,etc
OS Kernel version is 2.6.35
Will it be possible to port it to Mini?

Isn't it possible to use the original Android made by google instead of using the Android which is ripped from other HTC devices?

first focus on the current version
once we have fixed the main bugs we can think about porting it to upper android versions
unless some other devs join us...

lol why bother when you have muc better roms here, for example Sense 2.1+2.0 mix from Baadnewz, or RCMix, and coolexe and damo are working on sense 3 ROMs, all of them already have gb 2.3.3 or 2.3.4...
It's my personal opinion, but even if they updated to 2.3.4 I would have a custom ROM on my phone... Why not be original?

Oho, what a surprise
Oh well i'not jealous anyway, Oxygen is good enough, so close to stock that it's probably even better then the buggy port they would have fed us with. The only thing i'd want from google is launcher and a browser rewritten so that they can use our gpu...other than that any update sounds quite pointless to me.
If we're not getting any "revelations" about that coming to ics (and then i SEE it working with my own eyes, because they LIED about 3.0 getting it), then wp7 here i come babe...

For those asking : "Why so interested in the official update ?"
Our great Devs will take it, and then modd it, it'll be SO fast, as like everything is perfect, then a custom kernel, then a DAMN GREAT ROM....

Samsung Galaxy S 4g GB kernel source published

The Samsung Galaxy S 4g Kernel source has been published on samsung's opensource page as SGH-T959V-TMB_GB_Opensource.zip i read on the forum earlier that we could use it to compile a working gingerbread build for our phone, hoping this will help!

I was just about to post this...=)
Anywho it'll be awhile before things get rolling, but I really, really hope I get a true GB ROM out of this!

Please don't, our devs know about it and if they get a working build they will put it there for people who may need to use it in the future

Only releases belong in the dev section, this thread was correctly posted in the General section. Please keep our dev section clean.

Just a question....not trying to rush anyone, but has there been any progress?

Are you coming from a phone out of the box? Upgrade to the KJ2 version using Kies and root the phone if you want. The KJ2 firmware runs rather nicely and since you don't need anything flashy a simple root should suffice.
As for a stock GB rom, no there's not one considering it hasn't been released on the SK yet. This thread is about the Galaxy S 4G Gingerbread update, as some of our devs may take it and try to port it to our phone.

yeah not much going on, just a branch for gb. might end up being nothing.

I have the strangest feeling that tmo and samsung are about to give up on this phone. If we do get gb, its going to have a couple of bugs but by then they'll wash their hands of us.

This is just a thought but why not make a vid how to install it and all and if ppl havent upgrade their fimware and all that then go from there

Anyone posting crap in here again will be dealt with. It has nothing to do with promotion, so quit crying.
Oh and the ones who created those thread tags, expect to hear from me soon.

Sense 4.5 Keyboard on Sense 4.1 ROM?

I know it is possible from Venom rom. But that rom is not stable enough for me to use.
I am using Inspiration Rom right now, and all I miss is Sense 4.5 keyboard. Since Venom did it, is it possible to install it to that rom.
Since I have no idea about software development, if someone can help me in that I will be happy. Maybe we can take the keyboard file or something from Venom rom as zip and flash it in our device?

You can't take anything from venom ROM in anything other than for personal use only due to their sharing policy

There's plenty of Sense 4.5 roms around, why go straight for Venom ? lol
I'm sure you'll find the apk somewhere besides inside their roms Also, since it's not just a matter of pushing the apk into system/app, what you need to know is whatelse do you have to do besides pushing HTC_IME.apk. Any libs? Any other file ? Any changes that need to be made?

Honestly, I don't get that sharing policy...
Isn't this an Open Source community?? On an Open Source community everything should be for everyone, and all the sources should be open and public..
People shouldn't be using sources from others, like "Google", "HTC", and so on...and then tell others that don't share theirs, and then again, ask people donations.
That's wrong guys!!!

Open source policy applies to android os itself. HTC sense, that wonderful layer on top of android doesn't quite have the same policy if any. The same applies to fixes, libs and whatever is done on top of it.
As much I would like to agree with you, they have the right to reserve those things.

Is it possible for us to know which appropriate files should we replace with the ViperS to have the sense 4+ keyboard?? Or is it still against their sharing policy??

Thats what I tried to do with my limited knowledge. I did some google search and tried to find the files for the keyboard.
Finally, after I put the apk and changed the files, just keys were working. Long press or numpad was not. I tried to change a few more files but it started to just crash.
So I turned back to normal.

Even that... It's the second or third time that a dev asks donations to buy a new phone, people donate, and then he stop developing for the old phone. How grateful he is?!?

Any news, ideas, solutions?
I installed viper rom again for the keyboard, but this rom is not usable at all.
I will go back to inspiration but all I miss is that keyboard.

You can use viperS keyboard.apk but its forced in landscape mode....
