If you want to take the case apart you could remove the power button and wire in a short throw solenoid that is activated by the car's internal 12 volt power. This would trigger the tablet's power button automatically when the car started.
You'd need to root the device to install a power off button on the homescreen through so you could power it off via the touch screen.

thanks man,
about root and install power off button i already done it, no problem, and i am working with "smart screen on" and "off ".
about your suggestion, i am not sure if i am able to follow your idea with my poor knowledge. i will appreciate if you can give me a little step by step guide.
eventually.... let's say that i dont want to remove the power button..........
if the device for some reasons will shut down (not just the screen, i mean total power off) is there a way via pc to power on again without use the power button?
maybe adb command or other way?
thanks again to all, i have almost finish all the work so that i am ready to assebly it on the car.......
cheers
Well you can't use adb to power on the device. That deffinately doesn't work.
What I was talking about was using a solenoid that runs on 12 volt power. Basicly a solenoid lets one electrical circuit influence another electrical circuit without the two circuits connecting.
The car's DC power would activate the solenoid which is basicaly just an electromagnet. When it has power the electromagnet activates and a little piston inside it completes an electrical connection for the circuit you want to power.

Even easier to wire, you could also move the power button. Just take out the one that's in the tablet and run two wires from the existing leads to another power button that you remote mount somewhere else. This won't be automated to start when the car does, but it will let you use a remote mounted button that functions exactly like the existing power button.
The only down side is the difficulting in installing those lead wires. The power button in the tablet is wired with a VERY TINY ribbon cable. It's basicly two copper lines embedded in a single flat plastic wire. It's very delicate work to cut those and soilder in new wires. It can be done, but it takes a delicate hand with surgical precision.
If you do it right though, it will work like a bloody charm. And you can put a power button on your dashboard somewhere that's easily accessible.
The 3rd option, that's the least high tech, is to fabricate something that lets you press the existing power button. Perhaps a hole in the dash bezzel that surrounds the tablet that lets you stick a finger in under it and hit the button. That's guarenteed to work. It just involves careful fabrication to make it look nice.
Also, for the application you're trying to use the tablet for, read through this message board....
http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/
It's a message board dedicated to in car computers. I built a Windows 2000 based PC to run GPS and audio in my car and that forum was absolutely invaluable. If there's another sollution to remote mounting smartphone power buttons it will be there with how to guides. It's a great community for getting help doing the kind of project you are working on. They will probably have good software ideas for you too to get the best use out of the tablet for your purposes.

I have one in my dodge magnum. If your looking to have your tablet turn on with the ignition you can try a program called tasker.
I have power supply attached to my ignition and when I turn on engine my tablet wakes up. I have a ton of things automatically start when it recieves power. Everything pauses when it doesnt recieve power.
Or you could also try tablet talk and maybe those nfc sticker things. You have a lot of options of you dont want to open up the tab.

Did you get that app working well? I couldn't make it work at all.
The whole idea sounded neat even though Im not doing a car install.

hi man,
yes, i have installed smart screen off (that can also wake up the device) and it work very well.
i am using two wave to let the screen off and two wave to wake up. all other setting as default.
Smart Screen Off 2.0
let me know if i can help you in some way.
cheers
I second the Tasker solution. Also, since you're mounting in the car anyway, i would look at an app called Torque. A cheap bluetooth OBD2 interface can be used, and Torque can be set to put the device in standby when ignition is turned off or when tab isnt "plugged in" (because power to tab is switched by ignition).
Using Tasker, you can wake the device when the ignition is on, then start the apps you use while driving (pandora, maps, nav, my tracks, etc). There's a bit of a learning curve with Tasker, but spend a bit of time with it, and you will start to see its potential!
Yes. Tasker is a great app. I use that in my og galaxy tab I have installed in my car. I wouldn't worry about powering the device on and off. If your trying to save power, you won't lose much even on really hot or cold days. Tasker has a lot of options that you can set to help save power.

hi
i have looked about and cant find anything close to what i want , maybe someone can point me in the right direction
I'm going to use my 7" tablet as my BMW Custom Trikes Dashboard
it will have speedometer and satnav on display but it has to be built into the new Fiberglass dashboard so it will have charger permanently plugged in what I'm trying to find is a way to auto power this on when Trike starts and when i kill/stop the ignition to the Trike when key is removed to auto power down . or a variation near to this .
has anyone seen some method i could read about .
i have installed auto start from play store to auto run the speedometer this works fine but I'm still looking for the auto power on and off.
The design of my HUD has not got the room to give access to the power button that's the main reason I'm asking .
thanks
Hi, so I found my old Samsung Galaxy Ace (first model) recently, and I have come here to try and resolve the issue that rendered it unusable.
It will not turn on via the power button, I'm able to use the emergency boot feature, but it does not display the Download page (or whatever it is that they show in the tutorials). It just displays text in a box of hash tags. Whenever I connect the device to power via MicroUSB it displays the battery charging screen, however the grey/blackish battery never fills up with green colour (to indicate charging) as it used to. When I take out the battery and connect it to an external battery charger it indicates fully charged (I've even tried two external chargers).
I took it a part to see any physical damage, but did not see anything that stood out. Below are links to inner components and the motherboard/mainboard.
imgur[DOT]com/17N7bDz,6GFPLee (It's in an album of three photos ((XDA won't let me post outbound links)).
Can you help, and if it is a most likely unfixable, is there anyway of booting it via my PC, or an external device?
Thanks!

Help
This is the FIRST App that provides (with your phone OFF) functionality to *boot* your phone (and also charge) when receives electric signal (charger or USB)!!MOD Edit: Links removed
This App is useful for:
- Devices to be connected 24/7 non-stop! if electricity goes and comes back it will start device automatically
- Industrial devices working with PIC boards and subsystems with start-up Apps
- Devices that are meant to be stucked in your car or... you just want to swich ON your phone when plug in charger or USB cable
- If your phone's ON/OFF button is broken
*You can revert previous configuration! interface is only an ON/OFF button :=) *
Please, watch explanatory video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYDk_qPpTVo
READ compatibility:
- Your phone needs to be rooted!
- Only tested under *Samsung* devices! may don't work in others!
Mod Edit: more removed.
Thank you~
Sounds promising however it's Wwwaaayyyyy... too expensive for a 107kb app that only does one thing (idevices come to mind).
Power off when the power is disconnected would also be a good option to have, or power off after 5 minutes off power loss. Especially when the device is used in a vehicle etc.
Very nice thought! Looks promising!
Hi,
my name is Josemari, from Spain.
I have a TF101 with dock (and original rom from Asus) that does not display anything on screen since a soft fall from 10cm (daughter in a very very small chair).
When i plug the charger, it works (and beeps -charge-). When i plug the dock, also beeps. When i connect through hdmi output to my tv, it also works. I can use the tablet perfectly with my fingers.
What can i do?
I disassembled the tablet and i checked all conectors, but i do not see anything wrong.
Thanks.
I had the exact same problem. Even though it has fallen before without a problem, in my last 2 cases it was a loose connection for the video screen. I had to open up the tablet and simply push the video connection back on all the way. It's rather easy if you're familiar with taking things like this apart. Make sure you are careful when you re install the side trim that holds the buttons. It's easy to break the red tabs that press against the buttons. It may be helpful to you to look up a disassembly guide. I believe if you google the specific issue you will find pictures. Again it's been a long time. Hope this helps
I have the same issue since a few days.
Difference here, when I boot up (holding power button until reboot) the screen is on (Asus logo and boot animation)
The display goes balck / disappears (backlight off) when the lock screen comes up.
Checked the inner display cable and connector with no success.
Did a factory reset and it was working again, until I changed the brightness to a higher level. Then the screen was dark again.
I managed to change brightness to a lower level using the working HDMI interface. After that I switched the tablet off and on and the screen was lit up again.
Another effect: when power adapter is plugged in, I can go to a higher brightness level until the backlight turns itself off.
It looks like a hardware defekt of the backlight electronic to me. Couldn't find any spare parts, such as backlight inverter, though.
Can anybody confirm this or knows how to repair?
I will use it at 30-50% brightness now and see if it gets worse over time.
