Do You Need Root To Flash Custom Recovery Through NVFlash?

I have a replacement G2x coming today in the mail and if it comes with 2.3.3 on it and I can't root it through superoneclick can I just flash CWM through NVFlash and then a custom ROM with root or do I need to root the current ROM to flash CWM through NVFlash? Thanks!
Nope, just flash recovery as you normally would, and install any ROM you'd like.

Want to go to JB but on ICS with custom Rom/Recovery

With all the new JB roms and custom kernels based of the JB OTA I want to give them a shot. I'm confused on what I need to do since I'm rooted with unlocked bootloader on ICS but running the Black Bean JB Rom. I read Ok need to go up date to JB bootloader and then flash custom JB recovery. Can someone point me in the right direction please.
Thanks!

It's really simple.
Download your asus jb firmware from their site.
Run voodoo ota keeper to keep root for later
Unzip it and flash the zip extracted in your custom recovery as you would with any custom Rom
Reboot
Install custom recovery again via fast boot or re-enable root from voodoonand use goo manager to install your recovery
There is also a flashable version of super user you can use to get root back as well.

Well, do you remember installing a custom recovery?
If you can't remember that far back then boot into bootloader and choose recovery option and see if it boots into a custom recovery.
BTW the OTA will fail if you are rooted even if you have stock recovery.
Thanks!

A simple question about rooting Note 5

I am on stock ROM (w/o root)
Instead of rooting the stock ROM, can I just flash the TWRP and then install a pre-rooted custom ROM?
Or
First I need to root the stock ROM and then install custom ROM?

One question:
Do I need to be root to install a custom rom?
Or do I have to have TWRP recovery alone?
I have nougat stock 7.0 unmodified, I do not have custom recovery, nor root.

You do not need to be root, it's more, the custom rom itself can take root. Install TWRP for android 7.0 nougat here: http://www.naldotech.com/install-twrp-7-0-nougat-samsung-galaxy-s6-s6-edge/
Sorry for my bad english
