I'm currently looking into this as well for my brothers phone and I've found that this is internationally called the Samsung Galaxy xCover GT-S5690, the M stands for Canadian Varient so if you look up methods of rooting the xCover it will be the same as rooting the Rugby as the Rugby is just the Canadian version.
If I find a good guide I'll be sure to post the link
Hellllloooooooo........ Did you ever find a successful method fot the 5690m? Any help is much appreciated! Thank you.

Hmm ... I found a rooting thread ([Tutorial] Rooting the Sprint GalaxyS3 the Easy Way), but it is closed as it seems that this method no longer works.
There a user ("Thecrazyone1") of the same device reported taht he could successfully root. Maybe you can ask (PM) him, how he got it rooted.
Here is the general rooting link for the Sprint S3: How to root the Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III ... which seems to be very similar to your device.
You can also check the Sprint Galaxy S3 FAQ updated 5/27/2013, there is a linbk to a video guide for rooting.
Here is a thread about your device: S3 straight talk verison rooting/general questions..
And here is another one: [Q] How To Root the Straight Talk SCH-S968C Samsung Galaxy S III.
Maybe you can get better answers there.
Good luck !
Thread closed and thank you.
Happy new year !

I found this in many websites
"If the kernel date (Settings/General/About device) is later than June 3, 2014, there's probably no rooting method yet"
Sorry

Hi
Sorry that the thread I liked you to wasn't of any assistance to you. It may be the case that there isn't a valid root method for your current firmware, bit it might be worth looking at this section just in case:
How to Root Any Device

Hi, I've been searching the whole the web for rooting a at&t samsung galaxy s5 android version 5.0 for a week now. I haven't found a single way. All methods for rooting any other model works. But none have succeeded with the at&t model. I heard you can downgrade it if you have 5.0 but it can brick your phone. I wanted to try it but I didn't want to take the risk. If anyone knows a way to root the at&t samsung galaxy s5 please help me and others tying to find the answers. Thank You.
Hello, thank you for using XDA Assist.
THIS ROOT METHOD is also compatible with your device. Any further assistance just ask in that thread.
Thank you! and Google Luck!
Hi!
I need to know whether or not the Samsung Galaxy S5 ( not Verizon or AT&T S5 etc.) already has an unlocked bootloader.
I'm looking to root and then install TWRP.
Any help would be appreciated!
THANK YOU!

Hello and welcome to XDA Q&A section of the Forums.
One of the forum rules is to search before you post, this is to reduce the spam in the forums.
If you use a website called Google you should be able to find your answer.
yes, I've done that....
I have been all over Google, and I can only find a reference to "Verizon" S5 or "At&T" S5 and my phone will be neither.
It's not a phone that has a SIM that is locked into one carrier.
From what I've been reading online,
I'm not sure if there would be a difference.
So yes, I've already been to Google land on this.
Thank you.
