[Q] Cyanogen 10 Alpha 3 - Contacts FC a lot, known issue? - T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide

First off: This is my first post on XDA (looong-time reader, great site), and I posted this here because I don't yet have the required 10 posts to put this in the Dev forum, so I apologize for that.
Here's my question: I flashed the Cyanogen 10 Alpha 3 rom (upgraded from the CM 9 rom) a couple of days ago, fully clean install (wiped data/cache/dalvik) and I keep getting FC on the Contacts system app. I can receive calls just fine, but if I try and go to contacts / dialer, it immediately FC. Reboots haven't helped, clearing the contact app cache hasn't helped. I've been following the dev thread, but haven't seen this addressed, so I'm assuming it's just me.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
The rom is beautiful otherwise, keep up the great work korny!

First of all, we need to know what is going wrong. Make a logcat:
Install Terminal Emulator on Phone
open it , then :
logcat -c

after that , open contacts (it'll crash, that's ok for now)
then , back in terminal emulator :
logcat > /sdcard/logcat.txt

then pull logcat.txt from SDCard , and post in on Pastebin (don't forget to give us a link)
I'm running CM 10 Alpha 3 right now, and had same problem.
In my case - it was old SQLITE DB , so cleaning contacts cache solved it

So, I cleared the phone app cache then tried to open it again, and it FC again.
After a reboot, I tried to open it once more and it caused the system to hang for about 60 seconds, after which it resumed its FC.
Would another logcat be useful, or am I spinning wheels at this point?

Hmm... Are you syncing Contacts with GMail acc ?
Could you Disable contacts sync, and then clear cache? then try to open Contacts and if it's FC - get another logcat
It seems , like i found what is causing u'r problem.
One of you'r contacts have NULL-string phone number.
Last time i've seen that problem , that was Skype causing it.
Updating Skype from GPlay fixed problem.

Good call, I turned off all sync, cleared Contacts app cache (the Phone app cache was still empty), re-opened the Contacts app, then re-enabled Sync and it would appear as though this problem may be resolved now. I'll give it tomorrow to see how it goes, hopefully this isn't going to be a recurring problem.

I'm happy to report that, after over 24 hours, I've still not had any more problems out of the contacts app.

[REQ] HTC Twitter Cache Cleaner

As the title say. As HTC twitter will not auto clear the old tweets and thurs hog up lots of storage and also slow the device down.

ok. i will have a check with clear temp. did not explore the newer version as i prefer to us sktools..
but i will still prefer standalone htc twitter cache cleaner
I tried cleartemp and it did not work, every time i update twitter it causes sense to crash.
Been working fine for weeks and suddenly i have a problem. Im in the process of chatting to HTC to resolve, unless someone can suggest where to look??

It's simple... when you know it
First go to settings and turn off Sence.
Now go with explorer to device\temp\twitEng
Empty the folders Cache and Db.
Turn Sence back on, and your done.
On the Twitter tab you have to sign in again.
Sometimes when you sign in again, it keeps asking you to sign in.
When this is the case, do a soft reset and everything works.

Hey guys just a heads up that the Twitter API has been having issues for the past few days causing the tab to crash sense.

Yh i managed to figure out the procedure myself last night but didnt have time to post it here
@Chris, just remember to show all files if using File explorer and that you may need to rename a file to anything you want temporily as it will not delete/corrupted, you should then be able to delete the last file. If your using total comm. then shouldnt be a problem.
@Zelendel - yh figured there had been a problem, but hy HD wouldnt work even after Twitters API issue had been resolved, but clearing all files worked
Of course if you wanted you could change the custom files in cleartemp to do this for you, but hey it only took a min or two, so why bother lol.
Now it would be good if HTC did a hotfix that regularly deleted these files as it will of course happen again depending on usage, but hey....

[Q] Market won't work

I installed a ROM and the market app is black and says " The application Market (process com.adroid.vending) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again."
Any ideas?
Try the thread for the Rom, someone else might have same issue.

This is WHY they have minimum post settings.
I spent a week reading about the bolt, how to root it, etc., etc. Before doing anything. Read, and then read some more before tinkering around with it. Use nandroid backup before making changes.

I know there is some issues with market on the mr2 radio as far as the way the dev of your Rom needed to set it up so it would allow downloading of certain protected apps but sounds like you are taking right steps to try and get back to a functioning market

I have had the same issues and this fixed it.
I posted a topic about this about a week ago after installing MR2. There is an issue with Google recognizing and updating your info that is in some way related to the 4G SIM.
I kid you not....this is how to fix it...... It has happened to me twice the last week as I got an AE.
1. Wait. No matter what I did, it seemed to never "Come back" until about 48 hrs.
2. Clear the Market cache and data
3. Stop the market service
4. Sing into and out of Google talk like you are on OCD.
Pissed the second day I had this happened, I was sitting at a bar listening to some girl go on and on about something so I started signing in and out of Google talk like 14 - 16 times....... Opened the market...no problem!
For "Must have apps, go to the online market place via your computer and push them to your phone. That always worked for me no matter what. Good luck!

Instant instagram crash

Hi,
Since yesterday I am not able to use instagram on my one s anymore. Whenever I start it says: instagram has stopped instantly. I've tried reinstalling it via play and apk and i've tried a factory reset on my phone, nothing seems to work. anyone else got this problem?

What ROM are you using ? Have you tried to delete the apps cache and data ?
I can confirm its working on my phone, Ive just uploaded some pics less than 10mins ago.

I've cleaned the cache several times with app cache cleaner. How can I see what ROM i'm using (sorry i'm new at this)

If you dont know what ROM your using then it will be stock I meant are you using a custom ROM but i guess you are not lol
try to clear the cache and data manually via setttings > apps, Not all 3rd party apps do a good job.

Tried that aswell, didn't work. I even tried to log in with another account, in that case it doesn't crash instantly but when loading up the photo feed it does crash...
that is super strange lol do you get the option to report it when it FC's ?
My next step would be to contact the developer

Mine force closes when using the search function. Everything else works fine.
My wife was having issues with her feed (she has a galaxy s blaze 4g), ao I am guessing that there may be an issue with the app.

Mine is working again partly. Everything works but if I scroll down in the photo feed or tap on my grid it crashes...

[q] sense 4 problem with whatsapp

I have installed almost all roms with sense 4, and all of them gave me the same error with whatsapp.
A contact send me a whatsapp message and my phone didn´t receive it until i open the contact in whatsapp....All the messages that he sent before,and i didn´t notice, come suddenly at once when i open the whatsapp contact.
Anybody has the same problem ????
I have the Sensation 4G (Tmous), and all rest of apps run great on sense 4...
(This happen with rom ports of htc ville 1.11 and htc one 1.70.)
Did you restore whatsapp from a back or a fresh install from the market?

Always very good signal 2G & 3G....not a problem of bad signal....
Don´t know what happen.... At begining thought it was a rom problem, but it´s only in sense 4 roms.
Go to www.senseomaniac.mobi and download ics sense 4 rom there. I am using it and do not have any problems of any kind.

It´s always the same....when i open whatsapp, 1 or 2 seconds of black screen and then, when program appears and click on selected contact, all his messages come up....:crying::crying::crying:

Clear it's data & cache, then uninstall whatsapp. Then go to www.whatsapp.com and download it from there, the updated versions usually get released there first. Hopefully that should work. Also, try deleting any whatsapp folder on your sdcard. If you've got things saved, back them up, then delete the whatsapp folders.
OK.....thanks....i¨ll try this....I always wipe data & cache when having serious problems like this. But, in this case, never unsinstall whatsapp and then wipe. And always last version of whatsapp on Market, but not on their webpage....

Enable Auto-Sync.
Settings > Accounts & Sync > Auto-Sync
No way man.....that´s not the point.....I have installed tons of roms from eclair to 4.0.4, always the same basic programs. Some of then need sync and auto-sync is always enabled....like mail,viber,weather, etc.
I give up !!! don´t know what more to do....install new whatsapp version from it´s homepage v2.8.381, uninstall erasing data & cache....wiping cache & dalvik in rom...

stock email client crashing

Is anyone using or having issues with the stock email application? I am using it for exchange and i cannot download attachments, reply, forward, or compose emails. I am stock and never installed the update.
After trying to do any of the above, the program locks up then a popup comes up that says "unfortunately, Email has stopped"
any ideas?

Same here. Works for a few hours after full wipe, then suddenly stops. I am also not able to send any mails.
My phone I never stock e-mail application, so I work very convenient that I do not like to use his

I'm using the stock client with Exchange Server 2010 and don't have any issues. During setup did you answer "yes" to all the security and permissions pop-ups? It might be something on the server side. Does your IT department require a client certificate?

I am not the creator of this thread, but I am facing the same issues with an Exchange 2007. I dont believe it is server-related. Everything is working fine on my GTab 8.9, my Galaxy Nexus and my Note (the phone). Only the Note 10.1 is having issues. It is also working fine four a few hours after a tull wipe and stops working later. Tried this three times, always the same result. Also noted down all the steps I was doing before it stopped b7t could not find anything. Last time it just stopped working after a longer time of inactivity.
It is always the same thing with this Samsung stuff... Changing anything with there TouchWiz, leaving a perfectly working system (stock Android) unstable and buggy. Had those exchange issues on nearly every new Samsung device, it always took two or three firmware updates after it was fully working.
Update: To give you some more information. Everything is syncing fine... mails, tasks, appointments, contacts. I am also perfectly able to create and edit contacts, appointments and tasks. But whenever the mail application is trying to open the editor window (so on new, reply and forward) the whole mail app simply quits.

I agree with this, also i cant open attachments. I set up my gmail account on the stock email program (i use gmail app) just to see if it was exchange or the program in general. It did the same thing with gmail. It is the program that is crashing.
Not trying to throw salt in the wounds but i also have 4 emails running thru the stock email- including my exchange which works perfect- everything syncs and no issues like you are exeriencing. I also had this same setup without issues on the 16g GTnote before i just exchanged it for my current 32g. no issues on either.

question to all with working or not working email. did you install the update or not? I do not have the update installed and my email isnt working. I just deleted everything, wiped email data and reset it and still isnt leting me send emails or open attachments
I found the solution! It's working for me and it is reproducible: Disable "force 2d gpu rendering" in the developers settings (sorry, don't know how it is named inthe english version, I am German ).
I dont think it was the update- because on my 16g i had the update and email worked, On the new 32g no update and it works.
Also, i can confirm as posted in the other - i do not have the force gpu 2d or whatever it is -checked... so maybe thats the deal.

Faced same problem. Disabling force gpu rendering worked for me.

Hi! I'm having the same problem... However, I already the force gpu rendering disabled and it crashes anyway. I turned it on and it's the same. Already cleaned all data, deactivated and activated, etc and nothing. It always crashes... Any idea?
Ah! The same happened with YouTube after installing the update...
And it's my second tablet, the first one did the same and I was hoping it could be some hardware malfunction... I guess not...

I think I got it!
I did a factory format and reboot and tried the email client. It worked all ok, no crash until here. When I installed Flash from Adobe, the latest version, it started working oddly... Crashed and even the touch was not accurate as before.
So I rebooted it once again and didn't install Flash anymore. Until now it's ok, maybe there is some conflict... The truth is that Samsung and Adobe don't include N8000 in their list of devices to run flash. 4.0.X up won't anymore.

dude..that's it...i never would have thought that this is the problem...mega thanks...you will be astonished to now that all of this was due to the animation effect in the stock app...that is my third samsung tablet always had problems with these things...
