[Q] Move apps to SD? - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Haven't found anything about moving apps to the SD card for the Tab 2 7.0. Can anyone clarify for me if that is possible, and if so how?
I'm currently rooted on AOKP JB.

This might work. I don't see a downside in trying it.

Hi all,
WARNING : This recovery image has not yet been tested on your device. So be very carefull and wait report of power users. Test only if you don't run 4.3 version
This recovery image is based on twrp with multiboot feature on Galaxy S3.
I did it on my Bell model (d2att) but has ben reported to work also on Tmobile model (d2tmo).
Original post and recommendations are here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2577211
If you want to test it on your device and your bootloader is not locked, please read carefully original post and follow all warnings.
odin file added. Please don't download it if you run 4.3 verizon version with locked bootloader.

Philippe,
I assume this is for people who didn't upgrade to 4.3. Can anyone confirm before I try to flash this?

Correct, do not use this If you are on the 4.3 update.
Glad you posted this, I saw this floating around the T-Mobile forums and it looks interesting.

What a great response. :good:
I'm actually dual-booting now, with my own system. Unfortunately, it isn't to the point where it is reliable, so I haven't released it. Now it looks like between MaulBoot and this the S3 is covered :highfive::highfive:
I can't try this now (leaving for work in a few minutes) but will definitely give it a spin this weekend. Any word on storage speed? I have a UHS sd-card and I'm actually getting faster speeds running off the SD than the internal memory. The way I'm doing it though is re-partitioning the SD card (essentially the same as MaulBoot I believe), which other than the fact that its working seems to be... less desirable than using .img files like this does. At the very least, it kills using the external SD for both ROMs.
This is awesome! Now I can test my MIUI builds without doing a wipe and restore.
Would it be possible to be able to change the img sizes?
Can the tar file be flashed with mobile Odin or do I have to flash with odin3? Also I am currently dual booting with MaulBoot, can I dual boot with this as well as with MaulBoot or would I have to format my sdcard to use this? I am enjoying being able to dual boot on my sdcard.

Hi podspi, if your external sdcard is partitionned, it will work only if /dev/block/mmcblk1p1 is vfat as multibbot only manage fisrt external partition.
But, you can also use internal /sdcard to install roms. As img files are sparsed on ext4, it is more efficient for space saving.

Hi deuce, it as only been tested with odin3 on PC.
Moderator moved this thread to general as it as not been tested or confirmed working on your device. It would be great if somedy can give a feedback.

Philippe,
You can't do this on our 4.3 update. We have a locked bootloader that prevents it running any other rom besides stock. If people with locked bootloaders try to use this their devices will brick.
AT&T and T-Mobile s3's both have unlocked bootloaders.

Hi,
Thank's for explanations. Does it mean that since your 4.3 upgrade, you can not install any recovery image ?
If yes, I understand that it is too dangerous and prefere to remove this program.

You're correct, people on the update can't install custom recoveries. We do have safestrap available, and that's the only recovery available that will work on the locked bootloader. This is fine for anyone with an unlocked bootloader, there are plenty of people who ran custom roms before the update and did not take the 4.3 update.
This program is perfectly acceptable for them and it should definitely be here, but a disclaimer for the 4.3 folks would be a good idea.

For those who updated to OTA 4.3, yea they are stuck. I would expect that most of us (?) are still on the leaked bootloader, which IS unlocked.
As long as you put a disblamer noting that people need an unlocked bootloader, you should be fine.

Also, in your linked thread you mention a dev thread with sources, etc, but I haven't been able to find it. I'd love to take a look under the hood of this thing. I can't promise that I'll be super-useful, but I can try
Hey this looks great, I have a 32gb sd card coming in in a few days and want to try it out. It looks like you had a build up but pulled it, maybe for further testing. Just to be sure should I wait for a verizon recovery build (if you are building one) or do I flash the at&t, sprint, or the t mobile builds? I'm not comfortable flashing things that weren't meant specifically for my device. I do see you said you can download them from the other threads and adapt them but I have no idea how to do so.

Good news to know that it is working on d2vzw device, thank's for feedback. If you run on rom on external sdcard, I did it on purpose ( close access to internal block devices ) but I will probably add a switch to mount it in future version.

Yes, I proposed to open a dev thread if people were interested in but until now, nobody asked. I am happy that you're the first :good:.
I have to clean sources before posting but if you want to understand how it works I already made a threat explaining it on the first device I made this method : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2558903

Awesome, successfuly flashed it with mobile ODIN. I'll play around with it when I get my sd card. Just to clarify, being on 4.3 is fine as long as its not the OTA that was pushed. Our custom 4.3 roms don't lock you down like the OTA does.

Thanks for this will give it a run when time allows. I got interested in this a while back but the stuff I had found for our devices was abandoned. So just left it alone since I have limited knowledge or time to play.
Ok so I couldn't wait for my sd card to try this and went ahead and freed up room on my internal and tried flashing omni rom with this. It did what it was supposed to and its great that we have something like this now. Couple of problems: I tried flashing the supersu update zip but it failed even though the gapps installed fine. When I was in my main rom and tried to use the multiboot app it just booted back up to my main one again. When I tried shutting down from omni it kept doing the vibration it does for shutdown and boot up (might have been from being plugged in the charger but I'm not sure). Other than these small issues this is pretty great.

Well idk why there aren't a lot of ppl talking about this I think its fantastic and it works perfectly for me. Thank you Phil_Suz for this!

help! install rom stock Android M to 1GB ram in the 2GB ram?

You can install the Android ROM Stock M model 1gb ram in the ram 2GB model ?
There any error or fault if I do ? help me
I have the xt1542
There is no rom stock Android for M 2GB RAM xt1542 and I want to install 1GB
All I can tell you is that somehow during the official soak, I got the 2 gb soak on my 1GB XT1540 and it ran fine. I kept it on there until I flashed the correct rom. I can't guarantee that it would work for everyone.
