MMS picture quality - Samsung Infuse 4G

Is the MMS picture quality bad irrespective of ROM, or is each ROM different?
I'm running JB 4.2.1 (Scott's CM10 ROM) and whenever I take a screenshot and send it through MMS it looks horrendous. Pictures fare a bit better for some reason, but not much.
Any ideas?

There is a file size limit for mms pictures. I'm not aware of what is is exactly (100kb?)
There are two main factors in jpeg file size. the first is the image size or resolution, the second is compression. The more compression the more artifacts in the image. Either way you are not going to be able to send a full quality 8mp pic via mms. Something has to give obviously.
I seem to recall that when I originally went from froyo to GB the mms pictures were smaller in pixel count, but better in quality when i sent them. I'm not 100% sure though.
I don't think it would affect pictures you receive though, that would be dependent on whoever sent you the photo.

Samsung Omnia - camera settings and compression size?

From other Samsung omnia forums, I have found that there is no way to save the settings in the camera, but only change them every time I enter the camera and take a picture. In particular, I would like to change the contrast, sharpness and sharpness to +1 (default is 0) and have those settings saved permanently - is there any way to do this?
Most importantly, when I save the picture at its maximum resolution, the file size is around 1mb. Other forum members have stated that Samung's software compresses the file and reduces the overall quality. Typically a 5MP camera should have a file size alot larger than 1mb - has anyone figured a way to have the camera not compress the file so small, thus increasing the overall picture quality?
Thank you.

This is an HTC only devices forum
However in off topic there is a thread about samsung
Good luck,

[Request][APP] Picture Compressor/Converter

Some of the photo's I've taken using my Nexus one I'd like to mms friends but the size is so outrageous because of the camera settings I use.
I simply want an application that I can use to convert a photo to something more reasonable. Thanks
not sure if this includes a resize option.
http://mobile.photoshop.com/android/
edit: nope no resize.
The inbuilt mms application will downsize it anyhow, isn't that what you're looking for?
I use Handcent. In the settings menu you can actually change the max size for mms. I notice that sending mms that is larger will not reach an iphone. :/
For other carries other than t-mobile unfortunately, cannot handle larger sizes. I have no problem sending pics at a max setting of 1.5M to other t-mobile customers. I seem to have the best luck with a 600k or 500k max. The program will still make them smaller but at least they won't max out higher than that. Hope this helps a little.

Q. Mms compression? Ns4g

Is there any way to remove or raise if to 5mb? My screenshots are blurry and not crisp when sending.
Ns4g, cm7.1.0.1, ics theme.
I like the stock mms and would prefer to find a modified copy w no limit or raised limit that I could move into system/app via root explorer
I just installed gosmspro and it allows a 5mb limit. My pics looks immensely better.
Anyone else having the horrible mms issue I highly recommend this app.very easy to make match my current ics theme and it 100% solved my blurry fuzzy pics

Improve camera quality with mod

Had no idea the actual image quality could be tweaked. Was browsing the LG Optimus G forums and saw this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2073013
Wow the improvement is noticeable. And with the camera being slightly disappointing on the Razr HD, any chance it could be similarly modded??
One thing that I noticed that helps is the default is 6MP 'widescreen'. Putting it on 8MP 'regualar' is still widescreen enough and seems to be less grainy.
Still trying to figure out what 'HDR' mode is.
HDR is high dynamic range. It gives the objects in the picture a glow or 'halo' effect, but works best in a well lit environment. Let me check how the XML is setup in the RAZR.
Okay I pulled the XML and the settings can definitely be improved, although whether or not it actually helps with the quality yet remains to be seen. Picture below is taken with the factory XML at 8 megapixels. I am modifying it right now and will push it to the phone, and hopefully if it doesn't result in a boot loop, take new picture with the modified XML.

Okay my phone is still alive after replacing the XML file. Took picture with the same camera settings, see below. Initial findings show it doesn't seem to make a difference, so we're likely limited to the camera sensor itself. I'll leave the modified XML on my phone since it's not doing any harm. Note that the file size of the pictures are larger than the original set, which suggests that there less image compression being done and the photos are retaining as much details and definition as software allows.

Thanks for the effort, and I have the stock 4.2 camera, so does the mod stay the same?

Yes, pull your media_profiles.xml from /etc/, modify it and push it back. I do not advise simply copying and pasting the XML from the Optimus G thread as an improper configuration file can cause your phone to boot loop.
*sigh* I had high hopes for this thread as I have my eyes on the RAZR HD as a possible new phone, but the sub par camera is holding me back.
also make sure when modifying the XML file u use a program that won't change the character encoding (ie word or notepad). Use apps like notepad+ or notepad2

Did you use the same values from the Optimus G thread? And I think you're too close, back up to the point where some text looks blurry on the original camera and try again

Yes, used the same value. 100 is the maximum allowed value for encoding, and it's pointless to allocate past 40 MB for image processing as a 8 megapixel RAW file doesn't even get that big.
I have taken other pictures as well (Outdoors, scenery, etc.), and I really can't see a noticeable difference besides the image file being larger (~2.1 MB opposed to 1.5 MB). The camera sensor is the limitation here.

[Q] How to Make Camera Photos Smaller File Size?

Didn't see any options or settings in camera app for smaller file size or compression? I want to take photos for work and have to email multiple ones in 1 email. When i take photos they are like 2.8-3mb each! Need them to be more like 1mb each in size if possible?
I know in stock messaging app if you attach a photo you took with device camera it automatically makes the photo smaller in size so it will send via mms but no feature for email?
Camera settings>crop. Choose one of the smaller sizes before you take the picture.
