Thanks for sharing man, love to hear it -__-
Nah but to the point: it really depends on the style you like, imo, windows 8 is a bit smoother, and the boottime is way better, but not a lot op people are good enough with computers to use windows8, so it isn't recommended for grandpa's and such.

Win7 vs. Win8 is like trying to compare a Volkswagen to a Yugo
^^^^^^^^^^^^
You can run the same programs as you can on windows 7. (i'm running the release preview, and i can run everything, even games.)
windows 8 is windows 7 but with more features.
How does it work when flashing roms on galaxy s3, galaxy nexus, nexus 4...also running toolkits, and Odin....i flash alot of roms, root amd repair software issues on samsungs using Odin...will this be an issue on win8....windows was flawless for everything....just don't want to get windows and then have issues with drivers and etc...
Sent from my RM-820_nam_att_100 using Board Express
I cant tell you how it would be for flashing etc.
but i can tell you that windows 8 is a blast ( the positive way )
- As soon as you get to know it you really love it, there is a couple of things that annoys me about it, but there is also things in windows 7 and linux mint i dislike, it cant be perfect..
if you ask me, go for it.. and if you get sick of windows 8 look alike style you can " disable " it with a program called " start 8 "
OR you can do as i do, combine the two.. im running the windows 7 look, but i still have the metro apps, that i can run if i like to do that ..
So from the usage point, yes.. windows 8 is waaay better and so much smoother, faster and allaround just better..
People who dislike it has used it for 10 minutes, have read alot of hate on it and joined the crowd..
Hope it helped
Thanks so much for your feedback....good stuff

Windows 8 is very clean and quick..
I have an alienware laptop.. and its very snappy..
Windows 8
I have been using windows 8 since last 2 months. I feel that user interface is clean. But there are some issues which i defiantly taken care of in for there updates . If your are a naive user than you might find windows 8 very irritating. BTW there is lot to explore in Win 8 ! :fingers-crossed:
Another thing to consider is that if you get a windows 8 machine and later decide you don't like it you are legally entitled to downgrade to windows 7. Check out the link on Microsoft's site: http://www.microsoft.com/oem/en/licensing/sblicensing/pages/downgrade_rights.aspx
Not sure how easy this will be to do, but it's something to consider.
have you thought about having two operating systems?i think you should consider this option.win 8 is faster than 7.but you may find problems with drivers.good luck.
windows is far more better than windows 7 provided u have sufficient RAM coz win 8 just sucks up the RAM as far as i know
Most of the apps are not working for windows 8 but it is faster compared to windows 7. if u want to run the apps which are useful for android. some might not be into market which runs on windows 8.
From my own experience windows 8 boots very very fast (tested with normal HDD) Thats a great advantage! Tho I really dislike the metro interface, thats why I went back to windows 7.
Every second Windows system was the best in my opinion..
like first Windows xp then windows 7..
the others in between was bad..
So its just my opinion but i guess windows 8 is just good for tablets..
Windows 7 is perfect so far.. It aint too complicated.

Hello Guys found some threads talking about install windows 8 on my tablet, would like to know if is this really possible, and how about dual boot with android and windows 8? i would like to see some tutorial for it! if someone could help me ill be glad, thanks.
It's not possible as windows 8 its closed source and you need in first place a Kernel able to handle the hardware from windows and that dear won't happen ever..
So you would see windows xxx development as much as you see ios development.. So let's do the maths. Erm its so hard... (1 hour later) oh yeah the answer its 0

But what about that tablets that comes with windows 8 arm? must be a port for tablets....i really need to run some operational system different, like ubuntu native or windows native...
Buy a windows 8 tab then.. Some android devices has Linux ports partially working but I don't see the point on doing that...
As I said can't be ported unless there's some tab with the exact same hardware wich I highly doubt will happen... Having the same processor mean nothing it needs several other things..
Put it in this way.. Get 2 computers with same processor core i7 with a different motherboard/hard drive /video card/network cards/modems then create an image from 1 of the 2 pcs and try to use that image in the other pc... It won't boot at all even if they have the same processor...

Doubt windows 8. Windows RT... maybe...
Someone would need to port ROM from existing samsung win RT tablets...
Not even sure if its possible. Hopefully others who know more can tell on feasibility.

I do not thing you will be able to install Windows 8 though RT version is made for ARM processors so should be possible may be some day some expert will manage as for you to install it you need the drivers to the hardware inside
Where this is clearly possible I think you will find the windows RT software licence will not allow any kind of porting to other devices, as such DEV would quite rightly not be permitted on XDA.
Windows rt was ported to htc hd2 a 3 years old device, so it should be possible
Sent from my GT-N8000 using Tapatalk HD
i cant see this going anywhere due to licencing issues, the project will certainly have very limited exposure on here for good reasons. I'd certaintly install it though if it did come to pass.
Should definitely be possible, just a matter of time..
It should be possible, but the question is why would I do that Windows 8 has not got great reviews
There is great hope for an Ubuntu 12.10 port (native) witch is far greater then win 8 rt ! (win 8 (not rt) it is impossible to port do to different cpu architecture)

Sorry if I rain on your parade and I go upstream.........
Which is the point of replacing Android, which is THE BEST when it comes to touchscreen tablets, with the crappiest operating system called "Windows 8"?????''
You should know Microsoft is definitely going to the dogs with this new OS - they swore to us this W would be a revolution and it's a Vista replication instead - increasingly slow and complicated. I bought W8 in November and I've had it updated once a day for two months - minor o major bugs, I don't know but certainly it drives me up the wall, the more updated, the slower.
I thought it wouldn't be as brilliant as Microsoft reckoned, but I wonder how an OS could have a minimum number of downsides in order to be considered just an "improvement".... ****!
So I've got to get a N8000 to fix my mobility issues - the app collection really sorted out everthing to me - and now I should think about a W8-working N8000......... sorry......... what the ****'s that???

Asus releasing a tegra 3 quad core tablet that runs full Windows 8 when docked and gives user choice of Win8 or Android 4.1 when detached as a tablet. So there is compatibility.

Wow do you own a windows 8 computer.and know difference in win8 and win8 rt.win 8 on new hardware ia rock solid rt is new amd under powered

Probably no
Nope.
Greetings XDA'ers.
The support end date for XP is fast approaching. And like many, I've procrastinated my decision, hoping that some magical solution will appear.
Current setup, 2009 Compaq mini 110 1100dx netboox maxed to 2gbs ram running xp
2005 Dell Dimension E310 desktop also maxed to 2gbs ram running xp
Now I just discovered best buy has a deal where you get $75 off any laptop and a $25 gift card when trading in a xp laptop. I purchased my nebook for $179 from them on black friday 2009, so getting $100 for it without having to sell it on ebay seems like a decent deal. They do have a few chromebooks that are $199 but I'd rather not go the chromebook route if at all possible.
I have seen a few deals where you get a desktop pc running windows 7 for $80 shipped. That's about how much I would spend on a windows 7 license anyway. I mean truth be told I never anticipated either of these machines lasting this long. Their processors are pretty outdated but run day to day tasks just fine.
So give me your honest opinions! I've got them running service pack 3 and security essentials and norton security suite is installed. Should I just backup my data and take a chance? That way I could get a far better deal this november?
Btw both machines can run any version of windows, I ran the compatibility checker.
Thanks in advance,
Best,
jf
PS didnt I read somewhere that you can buy a super cheap copy of windows 7 without support for $50???
Don't get a Chromebook!!!! I suggest you buying a freeDOS laptop. The price depends on hardware.

Windows 7 Home premium would be more than enough but be careful and verify that your PC hardware is compatible with System. check for hardware drivers before upgrading.
Otherwise, choose a Windows/Linux version which responds at your system requirements.

What are your opinions on Ubuntu?
My brother suggested I try this free or low cost os. You can make a bootable DVD to test it out?
Both computers check out fine for win 7 hardware compatibility.

Well, it's about time!
You know, Windows 8 and 7 aren't that different. If you come from XP, you can directly go to W8. W8 license isn't that expensive too.
In terms of performance, I don't know what's better. My computer is a gaming computer so I don't see any difference.

If you don't have to use some windows specific applications Ubuntu is a great choice, and it is faster on low end devices than windows.
As far as I know you can boot the normal installation CD and click "Live CD" or similar, than you can test it without erasing your HDD.

Two points for your consideration:
1. A WinXP user may prefer Mint (based on Ubuntu) as a replacement linux OS.
2. You can always run vbox with network support disabled to the XP virtual machine.
This way you can access MSWin apps in the familiar fashion. No internet means low security risk.
You still have to worry about USB and disc, of course.
Files and directories on the "host" (linux, in this example) can be read from the XP VM.
Mouse can copy/paste to from either OS feely.
Do a search and see. It's fun and only a bit of work.

I think a win7 for $50~60 is ok for me.
Sorry everyone, but there is already a thread for computer hardware discussions. Can I please ask you to move your discussion to this thread.
Thanks!
Hey everyone. I was thinking about this today.
I personally see the mobile phone/ tablet market going the PC route. you can install any operating system providing its compatable with the CPU and the hardware can run it.
That got me thinking. lets say for a minute Microsoft sold a copy of Windows phone O/S and you flashed it via Odin or some other way.
What would be the limiting factors? is it possible?
Its not only about the CPU, What about everything? you will break many stuff.
it would be a good idea to have windows 8.1 in note 3 if the windows phone os gets updated !
It would be a much better idea to buy a Lumia if you want WP 8.1......
1. Lol
2. Not gonna happen. Ever
3. You can't just install an OS like you would on a PC. Windows is windows, closed source, no device binaries for the hardware.

Android is so much better, than all the others. So NO i'll fight this idea, with all my power (but that ain't much). :silly:

I think by the way samsung drive there TouchWiz android we will be like windows even Google courage people to root and miss with it's s branded phone's and nexus branch getting Ubuntu phone and maybe Firefox os I think In the future we will buy just the hardware and load whatever os you wish like DOS shipped laptop's
And regarding hardware I think even the Nokia lumia don't have hardware like our SGN3 so why not
In the end we will get all open source to drive the tech

Why have I not seen anything, and cannot search and find something for, on XDA regarding installing win 8.1 on note 3? Am I missing something here?
Or can I install, not emulate, not fake, but full blown windows phone on my note 3? Understand I have developed using visual studios for 10+ years. Can learn to do windows apps faster than android apps. I'm not strong with Java.... yet.
Has anyone done this? Anyone have a link to a tutorial on this? Angry Birds and CoD and MW2 and Black Ops 2 and sh*t.
Watch your language and provide useful information rather than bashing operating systems with no fact base.
I personally run Windows 8.1 and it is way faster than any other OS I have used. It may not be as user friendly like Windows 7, but the background tweaks and touch ups are far more superior than any Android software could come to be. SSD and EFI based systems get the benefit of Windows 8's new features, and boots way faster than an old computer running Windows 8.
When talking about the share on mobile devices, get it right. No OSes are competing against each other. It's the company who holds the software that is trying to compete with each other. Google's Android is not even trying to compete, but rather enhance their software to cater to the users. Apple is just re-releasing old software as new, or just stealing ideas from Android (so people won't have another reason to leave iOS). Samsung is competing using their hardware improvements like heart rate monitor, S Pen, etc, while Apple just re-released the iPhone 4 three times in a different form factor with 'supposedly updated specs'.
You can't fight a war that you didn't begin to attend. Windows mobile never dominated for the reason of dominating like Apple does. In fact, Microsoft is doing a great job of replacing Symbian, WebOS and all those legacy operating systems - because there is now a low cost, non-heavy CPU efficient OS out there, it removes the necessity to shove Symbian on a low-budget phone and make it sh*ttier.
Actually I love android but the note 3 would make a great phone to have WP 8.1 on and I would try that out for sure or if i could dual boot that would be even better

Windows made a mobile long before apple or androif. The sx56 and a few other where made long before. Even palm had pda phones long before. Its idiots that followed apple even with its limited functionality from day one making it popular. Up to this day I don't see the point of os. They just made a balck slate, gave people freedom to make the apps for it and then restricted it. They get to make allot of money from people making apps and selling it thru their store. Android or windows will ultimately become the supreme two operating systems for phones. Its only a matter of time for people who actually know about phones or use their functionality properly will all realize apple is just a phone made for dummies. Most apple buyers don't when know how to add music to their device. They just buy them for the popularity. Idiots can not say my phone.os better when you don't even know it fun potential
You do realise its states compatible as in... You can connect it to an 8.1 machine and that theres compatible drivers for software etc...
Not that it's compatible as in its for running 8.1 upon.
It's the same as when I buy a mouse, it states windows compatible, doesn't mean the mouse can run windows haha, good effort though.
