Why have I not seen anything, and cannot search and find something for, on XDA regarding installing win 8.1 on note 3? Am I missing something here?
Or can I install, not emulate, not fake, but full blown windows phone on my note 3? Understand I have developed using visual studios for 10+ years. Can learn to do windows apps faster than android apps. I'm not strong with Java.... yet.
Has anyone done this? Anyone have a link to a tutorial on this? I am just about to start my search but something tells me that if this is legit I'm going to have windows running instead of android on my note 3. Or.. I'm going to perma brick it, or it will blow up, or a little android is going to pop out behind the battery and kick me in the nuts for trying.
Who knows?
Nick
[EDIT] ah HA HA! I don't think windows phone is available for download. Damn.[EDIT]
I'm an idiot. This is the other way around, plugging device into windows pc. DOH

Good, at least you acknowledged your blasphemous realization, most people just post here asking a question and then disappears.

Angry Birds and CoD and MW2 and Black Ops 2 and sh*t.
Watch your language and provide useful information rather than bashing operating systems with no fact base.
I personally run Windows 8.1 and it is way faster than any other OS I have used. It may not be as user friendly like Windows 7, but the background tweaks and touch ups are far more superior than any Android software could come to be. SSD and EFI based systems get the benefit of Windows 8's new features, and boots way faster than an old computer running Windows 8.
When talking about the share on mobile devices, get it right. No OSes are competing against each other. It's the company who holds the software that is trying to compete with each other. Google's Android is not even trying to compete, but rather enhance their software to cater to the users. Apple is just re-releasing old software as new, or just stealing ideas from Android (so people won't have another reason to leave iOS). Samsung is competing using their hardware improvements like heart rate monitor, S Pen, etc, while Apple just re-released the iPhone 4 three times in a different form factor with 'supposedly updated specs'.
You can't fight a war that you didn't begin to attend. Windows mobile never dominated for the reason of dominating like Apple does. In fact, Microsoft is doing a great job of replacing Symbian, WebOS and all those legacy operating systems - because there is now a low cost, non-heavy CPU efficient OS out there, it removes the necessity to shove Symbian on a low-budget phone and make it sh*ttier.
Actually I love android but the note 3 would make a great phone to have WP 8.1 on and I would try that out for sure or if i could dual boot that would be even better

Windows made a mobile long before apple or androif. The sx56 and a few other where made long before. Even palm had pda phones long before. Its idiots that followed apple even with its limited functionality from day one making it popular. Up to this day I don't see the point of os. They just made a balck slate, gave people freedom to make the apps for it and then restricted it. They get to make allot of money from people making apps and selling it thru their store. Android or windows will ultimately become the supreme two operating systems for phones. Its only a matter of time for people who actually know about phones or use their functionality properly will all realize apple is just a phone made for dummies. Most apple buyers don't when know how to add music to their device. They just buy them for the popularity. Idiots can not say my phone.os better when you don't even know it fun potential
You do realise its states compatible as in... You can connect it to an 8.1 machine and that theres compatible drivers for software etc...
Not that it's compatible as in its for running 8.1 upon.
It's the same as when I buy a mouse, it states windows compatible, doesn't mean the mouse can run windows haha, good effort though.

simply OPEN SOURCE CODE based on LINUX.....i don´t need anymore....
WM is dying, but it still has some awesome games, Quake, Pocket UFO, Civilisation, Crayon physics so ill continue to use it.
Android is currently the closest thing to what WM was (With bonus spying and adds from Google) and it is fun to play around with and visually stimulating. Hopefully one day some of the awesome games can be remade/ported for android.

That's an easy one for me, I got an HTC HD2 with WinMo 6.5 and had many problems almost all related to the OS. I flashed it to Windows Phone 7 (Thanks, XDAdevelopers!) and liked it even less.
I flashed an Android 2.2xx NAND and flashed an Android boot screen and the phone is now very close to perfect for my use!
You can go to the T-Mobile forums and read non-stop complaints about just how bad the HD2 really is but it's all the OS, once changed to Android, it's a great phone. Of course Android can't fix the phone's two major problems which are no 4G and no WiFi calling but that's hardware limitations.
Simply I hate Windows World, open-source rules!!!!!!!!!
Not ready yet...

This exactly. To add to that, Win 7 also lacks the customization available in Android. Half the dev team in my IT department have Win Phone 7's because they're MS junkies (and I say that with love lol) but the other half have Android phones because it gives them more control over their mobile platform.
Personally, if Win Phone 8 is enough of an improvement, and Nokia comes out with a good phone running it, on Verizon, I'll be very tempted to switch... The Office integration would be a huge benefit to me for work purposes.

Doubt windows 8. Windows RT... maybe...
Someone would need to port ROM from existing samsung win RT tablets...
Not even sure if its possible. Hopefully others who know more can tell on feasibility.

I do not thing you will be able to install Windows 8 though RT version is made for ARM processors so should be possible may be some day some expert will manage as for you to install it you need the drivers to the hardware inside
Where this is clearly possible I think you will find the windows RT software licence will not allow any kind of porting to other devices, as such DEV would quite rightly not be permitted on XDA.
Windows rt was ported to htc hd2 a 3 years old device, so it should be possible
Sent from my GT-N8000 using Tapatalk HD
i cant see this going anywhere due to licencing issues, the project will certainly have very limited exposure on here for good reasons. I'd certaintly install it though if it did come to pass.
Should definitely be possible, just a matter of time..
It should be possible, but the question is why would I do that Windows 8 has not got great reviews
There is great hope for an Ubuntu 12.10 port (native) witch is far greater then win 8 rt ! (win 8 (not rt) it is impossible to port do to different cpu architecture)

Sorry if I rain on your parade and I go upstream.........
Which is the point of replacing Android, which is THE BEST when it comes to touchscreen tablets, with the crappiest operating system called "Windows 8"?????''
You should know Microsoft is definitely going to the dogs with this new OS - they swore to us this W would be a revolution and it's a Vista replication instead - increasingly slow and complicated. I bought W8 in November and I've had it updated once a day for two months - minor o major bugs, I don't know but certainly it drives me up the wall, the more updated, the slower.
I thought it wouldn't be as brilliant as Microsoft reckoned, but I wonder how an OS could have a minimum number of downsides in order to be considered just an "improvement".... ****!
So I've got to get a N8000 to fix my mobility issues - the app collection really sorted out everthing to me - and now I should think about a W8-working N8000......... sorry......... what the ****'s that???
I agree

No, it is not possible to run legacy apps. Eventually we may be able to run recompiled versions of these apps, but an app from xp will not run on the surface at any point without at least first being compiled for arm
It will run on surface pro, not surface rt

Aha, that is sounds good.
http://www.microsoft.com/Surface/en-us/surface-with-windows-8-pro/home - future version will do run legacy apps.
http://www.microsoft.com/Surface/en-US/surface-with-windows-rt/home - current version is lucking that.
For me it is looks like MS released useless device, because as a Surface user if I am not able to run legacy apps - such device is completely useless
Yes it may be all right for HoseWife users but for Experienced users such device is completely rubbish.

If you were an experienced user, you would have known what Windows RT was about without having to ask.
I can do plenty of real world work using the Surface, because I use it as a companion device to better equipped machines.
I am a IT professional, but I would not trade the battery life of the ARM based Surface with the power of an Intel based Surface Pro.
Just because something doesn't suit your purposes, doesn't make it rubbish!
As it is, by coming onto this forum making posts such as yours, you're just a troll.

Thank you guys for your replies.
But I would of thought that real man users would of guess that after "30th December 2012 at 11:41 AM" the question is kind of closed
Anyway I completely agree and it is exactly what I meant - if something is rubbish to me it is doesn't mean that it is nor rubbish for everybody.
Have a fun with your Surface RT if you already got one.
As for me I rather would wait unitl Pro ver released, but still not sure yet if I can by that because may be I am sill not experienced enough.
May be before to by Pro I need to by 5 iPhones, 10 iPads and some Galaxy tabls so I can put that phones in to my signature to look like a real man.

Mate the issue is your calling us housewives and inferring your an experienced professional user. Surface with windows rt has been announced for quite some time as an IT professional I've known full well it is an arm device which would require special apps so don't go calling me a housewife and making out your an experienced user, your simply not that smart.
I purchased my Surface RT due to the incredible battery life and the fact I can use this device to guide almost any user with windows 7/8 very easily. Full fledged remote desktop and office applications right out of the box is fantastic.
Perfect companion device for an IT professional. I'd say the housewives would be happy to stick with their ipads
The fact that I can use tablet style apps, run a full desktop environment, run a command line, and run remote desktops is exactly what I want out of a tablet. I don't need to run legacy apps when I have two other desktops and a laptop, all with remote desktop capability. For me, the pro version would be nice but the cost is too high. In addition to the cost of a pro surface, I would still need to buy a license for office.
I am a 22 year IT veteran and have used every version of Windows since version 2.11. I would hardly call myself a "housewife" user and I am very happy with my surface. I wouldn't mind running legacy apps but I certainly don't need to.
Hey everyone. I was thinking about this today.
I personally see the mobile phone/ tablet market going the PC route. you can install any operating system providing its compatable with the CPU and the hardware can run it.
That got me thinking. lets say for a minute Microsoft sold a copy of Windows phone O/S and you flashed it via Odin or some other way.
What would be the limiting factors? is it possible?
Its not only about the CPU, What about everything? you will break many stuff.
it would be a good idea to have windows 8.1 in note 3 if the windows phone os gets updated !
It would be a much better idea to buy a Lumia if you want WP 8.1......
1. Lol
2. Not gonna happen. Ever
3. You can't just install an OS like you would on a PC. Windows is windows, closed source, no device binaries for the hardware.

Dont even want Win8 on my pc, let alone on my phone.
Android is so much better, than all the others. So NO i'll fight this idea, with all my power (but that ain't much). :silly:
If it were a linux distro you were talkin about i'd say yes...
I think by the way samsung drive there TouchWiz android we will be like windows even Google courage people to root and miss with it's s branded phone's and nexus branch getting Ubuntu phone and maybe Firefox os I think In the future we will buy just the hardware and load whatever os you wish like DOS shipped laptop's
And regarding hardware I think even the Nokia lumia don't have hardware like our SGN3 so why not
In the end we will get all open source to drive the tech

I know, wanted to post here about it but couldn't find the post. Sorry for that!
I've found this on Youtube and it was used for another tablet. Apparently , it installs Windows 8 on an Android tablet and someone could back up the Android partition in case said person wanted to get back to Android.

Has anyone tried this on their Note Pros yet?

... didn't even know it was around... well, maybe I'm being unneedfully suspicious, but there's lots about this ( I watched the video ) that doesn't quite work...
... how Windows 8 is running on whatever chipset is in his tablet escapes me. My gut instinct is to say it's in some sort of virtualized container, but ...
... I noticed at the end of the video there was virtually no demonstration of how it performed. did the touch screen work? Was it laggy?
... anytime I'm just clicking away and letting software from who knows where just fly on to my device, well, I need to have my head examined.
It would be super cool if this was legit and produced a functional way to swap between OS's; I'm just not buying it for now based on what the site and video is showing.

Echo the opinions of others when I say I have absolutely no desire to ever own a windows tablet.
The website in question though just screams STAY AWAY to me. It's clean . . too clean . . there's no testimonials, no compatibility lists, and no support FAQs or forums of any kind to allow one to see a history of testing and interaction with users. For me, support is often a big deal and that should especially be true for a product such as this where you're potentially going to softbrick your device when you repartition it. While I'm sure there would be a way to get back to stock I'm not the least bit interested in finding out . .

I'm between Android and Mac/iOS myself. Wherever the art geared tech flows, I follow, but that's just me. I don't see the point of Windows tablets myself, but if factors changed, I'd jump only with the other options had nothing to offer me anymore.
Don't even need Office anymore. Just get Libreoffice, which got a heavy UI overhaul recently. I just found it as a curiosity. I still remember running a virtual machine of 2000 on the Note 10.1 , and it was slow as can be. I'm not sure how well virtual machines run on the Note Pro, but I doubt anything beyond XP would run well.
