Hi 4 all!
I've tried to upgrade to Jelly Bean with Kies, but it didn't work. A friend who has the same model told me he managed to make the update, but for me doesn't work. I've tried to install an old version of Kies, and after that to make the update... I've tried to update Java, my windows is up to date, but nothing works. I don't know where to ask and above all this I'm a newbie in android, so I can't do tricks with my tablet... the only safe way to make the update is with Kies. Please anyone can help me?
Ok need some information before I can help you
What region does your tablet belongs to
What error are you getting while installing the OTA (Does it say new firmware is available)
Is you device on stock firmware if yes is the stock firmware the orignal one that that came with the device

Hi, I'm so happy that someone answered to my message...I didn't expected this. As I wrote in my message I'm newbie in this, so be indulgent with me because I don't know the specific terms.
Now, my tablet is unbranded, untouched and I'm from Romania. After I've received my tablet on 23 of November,*I've installed Kies on my computer and a message appeared telling me there is a firmware update. I did the update, the little green guy appeared on my screen, but after restart I didn't seen any difference. Now Kies doesn't show any error or message. I tried to install a previous version of Kies and see if the update message appear, but without success. I don't want to make the update manually, because in my country the legislation about warranty is a little bit treacky and I don't have the proper knoleges to fight with the law if I alter the original software. I did the update via computer, because I don't have a WiFi connection to make it directly from the tablet.
I will attach 2 screenshots to see more detalies.
At the end of my message, I apologize for my rusty English, but this is not my native language. Tks in advance for your answer. :highfive:
I tried downgrading and it wouldn't let me update because it was a old version, I will try the link you posted though and see if thwtchas any difference

Ok the update message you saw was for kies and not your firmware, as show in the kies window you firmware is upto date so do not panic the JB firmware is not out for your region let me check on Samfirmware and confirm it but will need some time as stepping out in a while.
There was problem with Kies in one of its version I do not know whether it is sorted out or not but when you upgrade and connect your note it use to crash if and only if you are having this problem downgrade kies otherwise do not
Please download Kies from this link

Thank you! I too no matter what on TWO Note 10.1's Keys would never work. THIS ONE You posted did.. Thanks..
Figured this is a good spot to put the problems I have with upgrading.
Base story, I installed the 8010 German 4.1.1 on my Canadian 8010.
Current problem, I connected my tab to kies today to see if an upgrade was available. When I connected it all was good till I noticed something I hadn't noticed the last time I had connected it to kies even after the update, it's telling me that "Your devices is not eligible for update through kies" now I'm exactly sure what this means.
Ill post a screen shot as soon as I reset my computer(gotta get kies to recognize my device again...)

Too bad most of us are already running 2.3.5 and higher builds. Would there be any reason to switch to official update?

So I upgraded my girlfriend's cappy to Froyo using CWM (or was it Odin? I can't remember) awhile back; I know it's not official because Kies said her phone was unregistered and so I couldn't do the stock version of Froyo. She's getting this same message now that GB is available; does anyone know if it'll work or break her phone if she downloads it while running an unofficial Froyo?

Unregistered devicecould be the rom you have, a borked imei number, or an improper product code.

Thanks. Would any of those break an official OTA update?
Just one of them will cause Kies mini to give you "unregistered device"
What about updates that are pushed to the phone via AT&T and Wifi?
Not sure. But if i had to guess, i would say yes, those too.
Well, non stock rom-yes
Bad imei-probably
Bad product code-maybe
Sorry i can't be more helpful

Probably the wifi calling fix update..
My phone that I ordered on launch day(and just received earlier today) has software number "1.53.531.16 710RD" ... I have not received any update.
Is your software number any different after the update?
Hmm, when did you get your phone and do you happen to remember what your version was before the update? I just looked at my software version and it's 1.53.531.16 710RD and my phone has not been updated as far as I know. I just got it on Sunday.
I realised that I phrased my post wrong. Updated, I haven't received any update. Sorry for confusion.

this software update is actually the one that has the effected wifi calling battery drain..
not all the phones Tmo initially released has the software with the issues on it.. i was thinking last saturday when i got the notification of the software update it was the fix but after looking over the software version i had a different one and the one they were trying to send me was the bad one so i just ignored the update and didnt run it..
Can you still receive update after rooting or even putting a custom rom on it?

What state does your phone need to be in to get an update?
It seems most people progress in the following order. At what point do you stop getting updates?
A, Completely Stock
B, + Unlocked bootloader
C, + CWM recovery
D, + Rooted
E, + Custom rom
I know that you'll get it with (A) obviously... and that you won't get it with (E). What about (B), (C), and (D)... what affects whether you get an update or not?
Depends on how customized your ROM is; I still get updates on my kindle Fire with MoDaCo ROMs.
Sent from my Kindle Fire using Tapatalk 2 Beta-5
you will still receive ota updates on any rom until you remove the ota service. however, if you have a different recovery or have removed certain system apps the update will fail to apply.

Slightly confused here...
I rooted my S via the HTCDev site, installed CW recovery etc but did not install any ROM yet. Will I be able to get this update from TMO or do I have to unroot and go back to stock to receive it?
I think most likely that that the OP just got a phone with the older pre releae verision of software.
That is the same software mine had out of the box.
In preparation for the official release, i used ODIN to apply the latest GB update.
once I was on the latest GB update I then used the Software update option in the device and downloaded a 20 MB file that also went flawless.
I am now on 2.3.6 official AT&T build from OTA.
i downloaded the latest KIES software and it says "Your device does not support software upgrading.
why is this? I am aware ICS isn't out yet but it still shouldn't be saying im not supported.
any idea whats going on?
Read the other threads about this.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2
I did, the most helpful reply was "Dont worry about it" lol
some other threads sent on to mention something about product code changing etc..
but they didnt explain anything further and my device is exactly as it is when you buy it form AT&T now with the new OTA 2.3.6 update.
there is no reason why it should not work in KIES.
before flash_counter_reset_att.zip go to cwm wipe data/dalvik and /system under mounts 3x each in CWM to clean any lingering files from previous roms then flash flash_counter_reset_att.zip from cwm
then flash this from Sammobile.com by odin
http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=8&view=2153
Edit: It is also recommended that you format data/return to default using the stock recovery after you flash 2.3.5 to clear any remaining files but I personally don't see the purpose, other just claim it helped solve data/reboot issues. Do this by restarting/booting up holding Volume Up & Down WITHOUT being plugged into the PC.
Edit 2: Cleaned up and added missing steps.

its really working with me,,,, i was had cm9 rom now on GB stock from sammobile... and now just wait ics from at&t and my device support software upgrading via Kies

Errrr...same error here. I tried out CM9 rom on my rocket but couldn't deal with my visual v-mail not working, so I had to go back to stock. I thought maybe the "stock" roms people posted links to were not 100% stock.
I've tried several different links to 2.3.5 stock roms and flashed them. Kies would then say I was on the most current firmware. After I took the OTA update to 2.3.6, Kies says, "Your device does not support software upgrading via Kies." It HAS to be a Kies glitch.
I was in the same boat as the OP then decided to upgrade to the official Rogers ICS using Odin which in all took about less than 10 min! Everything I had in the phone was untouched after the firmware upgrade. Android FTW!
Well after all those problems with kies , I would not count on it when ICS final for at&t will be released ...
The stock tar will be on sammobile.com few hours afterward and I will falsh it using ODIN ...
I read on multiple sites that ICS has been released for Skyrocket. Has anyone been able to upgrade it?
I am getting:
Your device does not support software upgrading via Kies.

Learn to use Odin. Download your specific firmware from [email protected] (On the download page) there's even a Youtube vid guiding you through the process of flashing your phone correctly.
As simple as that really! Screw OTA updates if you get errors - I never update using OTA. Hope this helps

What I have learned so far from the community
You Can't Root/Custom/flash a Verizon tab, which has a locked bootloader, neither you can use odin to flash a stock rom or firmware.
these are carrier locked devices and only the company has their way around it. absolutely no support outside their service centers. I am sorry but they won't give it away. don't flash any other device rom, as the device is a CDMA and the other device is either a GSM or a Wifi only tab. the other big difference is the chipset which is completely different from other tab and will never work.
my advice don't take any risk here.
see, if you can access recovery and factory reset the device.
update:
the people somehow got the SCH-I705 bootloader unlocked (it has the same chipset just the screen size difference 10.1 and 7.0 inches)
Check this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2536364
some I915 users also flashed the I705 Rom, which resulted in a touchwiz error, I don't know what else issues they encountered. but it seems i915 could be rooted as well. as reported in that thread by a user. you should ask them as well, see all the options, then proceed with care.
Thanks for the info! But i have corrections about the tab its not SCH-I915 its SGH-T779
I found it after i try to go to download mode.
Im confused now, the sgh t779 is a t mobile but at the back of my tablet theres a logo or sticker of Verizon.

there you go, you have got a official stock firmware from samsung.
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SGH-T779/
you have working download mode, and there is a firmware.
flash and check.
but before you do, check the recovery option, by pressing the Power and Volume Down(left button), see if it works after clearing data or factory reset
