I would suggest adding the jelly bean root method since the ICS method does not work on Jelly Bean and some people may want to root without re flashing a pre-rooted jelly bean per the first root sticky:

ISSUES WITH computer finding s3 via USB
I JUST WANTED TO GIVE POSSIBLE FIX FOR OTHER PEOPLE HAVING USB ISSUES EVENTHOUGH IT MAY BE IN THE WRONG SECTION AS OF RIGHT NOW.
My phone was in download mode and was not being recognized by my computer my windows 7 computer. I pressed the usb icon, where a box popped up saying that there was an unknown device. You could find this in device manager.
I then went to device manager to update the driver instead of pointing the device directly to the driver when i clicked browse my computer for software then it shows a location and option to let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer then a box pops up showing model above that there is a little check box uncheck that two boxes will appear with manufacturer and model
Scroll samsung electronics and model samsung mobile composite device that is what you want to update the driver to...
I pulled the battery then re-entered download mode and windows to over installing the rest now it works fine. I would attach images but it will not let me for some reason. if anyone can help with that I will do it later.
THIS COULD POSSIBLY help with devices not being found on computers in bootloader or just on rom loaded and running..

Thread updated.

I'm looking for a rooted stock rom but can't find it.
Edit: found it on Scotts roms.

Who do we PM if we lost and need to repair our IMEI? I found a tool from this forum on another site but DO NOT want to touch it. My ERI = None, IMEI = 0 and IMEISV = 00. Please let me know, thank you ........
.......... nevermind, already received a new phone from insurance but it still might be a good idea to add who we can PM about that issue, just a thought............ Thks for all your work here........

PM Me. .
For those of you who have, sorry for the delay-- my XDA messages have been going to spam in Gmail for some reason.

I'd suggest adding a link for the rom comparison / family explanation at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1950824 .
It explains the different Rom families (Touchwiz, AOSP) and their subcategories, and talks about the pros and cons of the various implementations. Especially helpful is the "is this for me" summary for each flavor (cm, aokp, pa, p.a.c., etc).

[Q] Razr HD reflashing need help!!!!

Hi, I have Razr HD from Verizon which is currently running Roger's firmware: 98.21.122002.XT925.RCI.en.CA (android 4.1.2), baseband: vanquish_u_bp_100700.220.65.33p bulid number: 9.8.2q-8-xt925_vql-12.2.
I am having problem connecting this thing to my pc.

The USB composite part gets installed but rest of the interfaces dont. I even tried using Motorola's software to update the drivers but still no go.
My phone is unlocked and I am using a different carrier, and I was wondering if I can reflash it to the newer Verizon firmware (4.1.2) would that take away my unlock? Also is there a way to reflash the same firmware (4.1.2) that I got above.
Also when I go into storage and click on USB connection and then click on MTP, and as soon as I exit out of that window, and go back to check if MTP is still checked it I find that it automatically gets unchecked. (Mainly this is my problem which is why I'm seeking to reflash my firmware in hopes to fix the issue and that the drivers won't get installed).
Any help would be appreciated!!!
Thought I would give android another try but all fails, back to an iPhone.

Have you tried on another PC?
Don't blame an OS if you flashed Rogers (XT925 firmware) on a Verizon device (XT926) and something went wrong that's your fault.
Read which drivers its looking for. Looks like XT925. You don't even have that, download the drivers manually and try again

I have tried 5 different PC's with no result. I tried to look for manual drivers but couldn't find any on the web, and if you mean to say driver's from Motorola's website, well, I have already tried those and they didn't work. Everything else works fine beside connecting to the PC, and the only way for me to transfer files from my iPhone is through SD Card which is a pain. I would appreciate it if you direct me to the right place to download drivers manually.
Any clues why a phone would show up under adb devices when connected in normal mode, but not show up when in fastboot? I really wanna unlock my phone...
Hi, I have Razr HD from Verizon which is currently running Roger's firmware: 98.21.122002.XT925.RCI.en.CA (android 4.1.2), baseband: vanquish_u_bp_100700.220.65.33p bulid number: 9.8.2q-8-xt925_vql-12.2.

This is the problem !
The thing is I got the phone with that OS installed on it. That is why I was wondering if i can reflash it to verizon firmware and if i do that will i still maintain my unlock. Also I know how to mess around with iPhones but no clue what how to do it with androids. So any help in right direction or if it is possible to flash it to verizon firmware would be helpful.
It can't be done, it can be done? something of a reply would be nicer than pure silence.
dude, what are you trying to unlock? bootloader or network? I believe flashing whatever u want will NOT impact either:good:
Sorry didn't follow your query
OK so this is what I'm trying to do... I got the phone with above firmware as mentioned in my first post. I can't connect to the PC using the USB and I believe its because of the jelly bean version I got. So I am trying to reinstall a different version of jelly bean. My phone is from Verizon and I was thinking of installing Verizon's version of jelly bean and was wondering how can I do that and if I end up installing Verizon's jelly bean would that effect my unlock.
flashing verizon will NOT make you lose network unlock. So flash away, try another micro usb cable if you have one laying around, just in case.
JB wont screw up pc detecting the MOTO.
when yout MOTO is plugged in, gointo device manager and see if it is showing under portable device, just to make sure the driver is properly installed

Thanks for the confirmation. Now my only problem is how exactly I do a flash to Verizon's JB. I'm not a computer noob its just I am android noob. For years I was on iPhone and I know how to do stuff on that but not On android... Also I have tried changing 4 different cables three Motorola ones and one from different company and I have tired 4 or 5 different computers as well. The problem is the drivers don't get installed I have downloaded the stuff from Motorola's website and it still doesn't work.
So my question is what is the procedure to flash my firmware to Verizon's firmware. Is there a really good guide out there? I know people will say go search for one but I just wanted to ask the community first so that I don't end up finding a bad guide on my own and brick my phone.

About
The WinDroid Toolkit is a Windows program built in Visual Studio using the C# programming language that simplifies the rooting process for many Android devices. The toolkit makes it easy to unlock your bootloader, flash a custom recovery and gain permanent root. It also includes other functions such as flashing kernels, pushing files and installing apps. If you find it helpful, give me a thanks and a donation if you can. If you find a bug or have a feature request, feel free to leave a reply. Thanks!

Unlocking the bootloader WILL erase all data. I don't know if you could achieve root without a custom recovery but if you plan to flash a custom recovery you will need to unlock the bootloader.
While this tool worked for me, it didn't work well with step 2. It did flash the recovery but I had to manually reboot to recovery for it to work. Selecting yes/next to reboot to recovery after flashing it through the tool only took me to fastboot. That was the only thing I noticed but other than that, everything else worked perfectly. For clarification as well, I did it on newest firmware available right now (2.2.1).

The reboot option after the recovery flash is supposed to reboot you back to Android because the next step in the toolkit is to push SuperSU, which requires ADB.

Well in my case, it didn't do that either, mine ended up in fastboot. In any case it everything works as it should. thanks!
Worked flawless.
After flashing TWRP where it asks to reboot, it does reboot the tablet but the program seems to get stuck on "Rebooting......" even after the tablet have booted.
I tried waiting a min to see if it changed but I had to remove and attach the USB again before it realized it was connected and said "Move to step 3".
I'm happy though because anything that can be done smoother than ADB (even though it is really easy) is appreciated.
Wow, this looks super useful and easy. I was just thinking of rooting my shield again cause I'm sick of adds and just dropped in to see how things were progressing on the development side.
Glad I did now, might give this a whirl today
Edit: This is awesome! I was contemplating rooting my 2nd shield (after my first one blew up after 5 days) and have been putting it off for a while.
I'm used to rooting n'stuff so I don't find it to difficult but this just made things so much easier! I had it unlocked and rooted in a couple of minutes.
Big thank you for your effort and hard work.
I can't seem to get adb working. What do I need to do to get the program to recognize my shield tablet?
Sent from my Nexus 6 using Xparent Cyan Tapatalk 2
Ensure you have installed the drivers.
And don't forget to use an USB 2.0 port! USB 3.0 ports generally do not work.
Is there any way to do this with Ubuntu?
Thank you for this! It looks like an amazing tool, just what I was looking for. I had a Kindle Fire HD and it was a hell lot of trouble to install TWRP and flash roms, and when I saw my brand new shield had a hell of a process to get rooted in Lollipop the Kindle nightmare just flashed before my eyes (I had bricked it once so my heart practically stops every time an android device of mine reboots, in fear it won't turn on again). It's such a relief to see everything automated.
If you read what I had written there before (some questions about how to use the toolkit) never mind me, I found the instructions
i can't get this to work, it keeps saying OFFLINE. i installed everything it requested when I opened the .exe
Unlocked bootloader.
Installed Twrp.
But when i go to recovery mode on my lg watch r it STILL boots to the stock recovery???
Am i doing something wrong?

[Q] Samsung Galaxy XCover 3 (SM-G388F)

This is the first phone I've purchased without it's own seperate section on XDA. As I'm no developer, I've always simply jumped on XDA, found the appropriate root/custom boot recovery/ROM development threads, but it doesn't seem like there's any info our there for this phone. Google searches only returned spam/malware/fake root methods.
I understand not being a developer, I have no right to expect others to create roms/develop anything for this phone.... but is there a general way to at least attain root access for Android phones?
Thanks for any help you guys can offer
I'm also looking for a way to root my g388f. Also find only a lot of junk when I google for this.
Yesterday I came across this info, annyone who can verrify if this works or not?

for me the same, i Need the root for changing the non working sap Profile ....
sap Profile out of the box was the Point why i purchased the phone ...
I already spoke to the Samsung Support, they tell ist the fault of vw ...
but it testet the sap with another android phone (S2) works fine out of the box
Even I am looking for root method for XCover 3. towelroot, Kingo IRoot are not working
Even with a large amount of requests in the cfroot thread, it seems that no one is interested in making any form of auto root for this phone.
Anyone know of a universal, manual method that can root our phones?
I am also looking for root access, or lolipop, I need to write to my SDcard..
Any news? I am trying to root my phone but after extensive googling I can't find it. I tried "everything" but it does not work.
Working root
Hi
I used this guide and it worked for me. Used the Odin method.
The guide for Odin is not that accurate, amoungst other things it tells you to use the "AP" to load the image you downloaded. In my Odin i used the "PDA". Also the setup guide for disabling "Re-partition" and "PIT table" is not correct.
But if you are used to using Odin, you will figure it out. Anyway, it worked for me.
Follow the link at the bottom and download the Super SU, before rooting. This saves you a reboot.

And take full control of your phone, it's the one must have app in my book!

Hi guys... Is someone know where to get network or sim unlock script?.
Root Galaxy X Cover 3
Recently I got my X Cover rooted !!
It costed me sometime, but it works !
I've got a package of 11 MB with all the tools !
Now the phone says it's rooted
How can I post the package here, ive got it on Filedropper, but I cant post urls here......
its fildropper dot com slash samsungxcover3rootpackage
Not working with Lollipop?
Hi guys,
I successfully used the method above to root the phone when it was on Android 4.4.
Now I updated to 5.1.1 and the method doesn't seem to be working anymore.
After I flash TWRP with Odin and (immediatly) try to boot into recovery I get the message: "recovery is not seandroid enforcing", and nothing else happens.
Any ideas? I didn't find anything with google or here on xda and there doesn't seem to be any newer version of TWRP than 2.8.7.0-xcover3ltexx.img.
I'd be grateful for any help!
So if I'll update to lp I'll loose rooting & twrp.. Bad indeed... I'm very tempted to buy this phone after my xcover 2 breaks down but with zero roms I think I'll wait some other time... Thanks for any info!

Hi, I have huge problem with my xcover3, I tried to flash a rom from sammobile, but it was wrong region I suppose, and the odin procedure failed and ended up messing with the bootloader, the device doesn't start at all, no logo no recovery, no download mode, nothing, it only just vibrates when I press any key combination, which means it's not completely dead.
What should I do? I think the only way to fix this is to boot somehow from microSD card, is there any way to do that, or anything else I can do, I even tried the usb jig and same result.

[Q] Apply security patch w/ rooted device?

Hello world! This is not my first run with android (by far) but it is the first time something like this "security patch " has come out.
I have a rooted N5 and im running 6.0 build MRA58K and continue to get prompted to install a security update.
My question is, is it safe to install this update, will i lose root or have to reroot? If i "unroot" the system with supersu and then install it after, would that work too? Also i would like to update my kernel to the newest version. Im running blu_spark build #30. Would i just reflash the kernel or do i have to jump through hoops by reflashing the rom first? I dont remember how it works
Thanks

Take a moment to learn how to properly flash a Nexus. You will forget toolkits very soon... You should also take a peek at kernel threads and SuperSU.
Learn and flash instead of flash and fix
NRT just does all of the fastboot commands for me instead of having to copypaste address locations by hand. However something did go wrong when i flashed supersu while booted into the wrong recovery (apparently i was in the temp one). So now im stuck with a boot loop, i guess i will have to reflash everything, its not a big deal. all backups have been made.
Ive been doing this a very long time

Toolkits do "everything" for you and it doesn't help users to think for themselves.
I ask because i never know what kind of godamn changes happen between android versions.
Sometimes A LOT OF THINGS CHANGE which would make a previous known method of doing x not work.
I had to manually install TWRP, but its all done.

Well, I don't know about Primokorn, but personally I wouldn't take kindly to anyone calling me "a$$face" - not the ideal way to make friends in a community where you're asking for help...
Primokorn makes a perfectly valid point. If you read up on the changes, as most of us appear to do, you would not have to rely on Wugfresh keeping NRT up to date.

Show a bit of respect for experience...
So you make a thread asking for help, then you carry on like this...when help and guidance is given. Next time just say thank you and leave it as that, or better yet do more reading than posting. And consider this your warning, and the only one I will give, now that you have resolved your issue, you can read the Forum Rules on conduct/posting.

I ask because i never know what kind of godamn changes happen between android versions.
Sometimes A LOT OF THINGS CHANGE which would make a previous known method of doing x not work.
I had to manually install TWRP, but its all done.

TWRP is an open source, community project. TWRP development is done by roughly 4 people at this point. We also have a large support community with many people who are willing to answer questions and help people with their devices either through our IRC channel or on forums like xda-developers.
Team Win was originally formed to work on porting WiMAX to CM7 for the HTC EVO 4G. After our work on the EVO 4G we wanted to work on a project that would work on more devices than just the EVO 4G and we settled on working on a recovery. Today TWRP is the leading custom recovery for Android phones.
A custom recovery is used for installing custom software on your device. This custom software can include smaller modifications like rooting your device or even replacing the firmware of the device with a completely custom "ROM" like OmniROM

As soon as I get a chance buddy. I've been working some crazy long days(60hrs/WK) and dealing with family issues.
Just stick around and hopefully me or another SlimDesire Dev will get to it ASAP.
Wow only one person well 2 now hit the thanks button. Show your thanks people.
Thanks by the way dev
Appreciate the love Josh, but I've been in the Android game here on XDA since 2008 and know that not all things are appreciated. No worries, Captain_Throwback deserves all the thanks for this build anyways.

You good bro I've been here since around 2008 myself. My first phone was HTC mytouch 4g lol and uneven the first Android phone the G1 and so forth. I know the G1 was the was the first Android phone but I didn't hear about rooting until HTC mytouch 4g. Been doing it ever since, I even ported few roms like MIUI. Maybe soon I will be porting to this device.
Hope this is not considered as spamming threads. I just think this message is relevant to this thread in particular since is TWRP-related.
In case some of you can not load the TWRP image from the first post in this thread in your devices after flashing it, i recommend you try this another image also by Captain_Throwback. It worked with no problem on a HTC Desire 530 from Claro Chile, and maybe it will work on other versions.

Alright, rebuilt TWRP with dtb separated (though that really shouldn't make a difference). If this one doesn't boot, I'll try using the dtb from the 3.0.2 TWRP, and if that still doesn't work, I'll just revert to the kernel/dtb from the original 3.0.2 release. I was hoping to be able to use the source-built kernel to patch the touch driver and clean up/fix some things, but that may not be possible. Unless this works, in which case, yay!

Everytime I try to make a back up in TWRP the phone reboots as soon as the back up begins. Anyone else had this happen? I'm used to nexus phones and this one is complicated to me

First of all I would like to thank anyone and everyone who has made phone rooting guides, they definitely help out!
Now my question, does anyone have the stock RUU: RUU_A16_UL_M60_DESIRE_SENSE70GP_TMUS_MetroPCS_US_1.36.1550.5_Radio_01.01_U113251531_68.01.61229G_release_495720_signed_2.exe
I cannot find this file anywhere, even the download link on HTC's website is broken. Unfortunately TWRP wont work on my Desire 530 because I upgraded my ROM to 1.36.1550.14. So I need to downgrade from what I've heard in order to get TWRP working, then I can install an S-OFF kernel and install Super-SU. Make sense to anyone?
I unlocked my bootloader and flashed TWRP to my recovery. When I reboot my phone into recovery I see the TWRP screen, then the phone reboots. I've tried clearing my cache partition, and that hasn't helped. I managed to do this by following directions for clearing cache partition on T-Mobile website with stock recovery image BTW. I also tried flashing several different versions of TWRP, some experimental builds by Capt Throwback, and some builds for other phones. I just can't get any relief.
Thanks in advance!
