Hey guys! I've been really into a game called iRuna. It seems to happen spontaneously, but my phone will freeze and then restart after 5-10 seconds. I've been trying to do all of the research I can to fix the problem but I'm stumped now. I'm not sure if it's game related (and I may be wrong) but I'd think if it was the game, just the app would stop working as opposed to phone restarting?
I have a One XL 4.0.4 and I'm currently using ViperXL 2.4.0. I tried CleanROM but had the same exact issue as well with the phone freezing and restarting.
I'd appreciate some direction, thank you so much guys! Hope you all had a great New Years!

Sorry it took so long to respond, my unit surprised me with a short notice field training. Sometimes it doesn't take much for the phone to restart. For instance, I just picked up my phone and started playing for less than a minute and it froze and forced restart. Sometimes it gets hot as well but it does this even when it's not hot. I've used task killer and killed everything in task manager before playing the game as well.
I'm not sure how to do that with the Kernal though, I apologize I'm still new to all of this. I'm still using the Viper ROM though.
I would appreciate any help, I'm back now and I'll be sure to respond ASAP this time. Thanks again!
I'm curious if trying another ROM will help? I'm downloading Rebel at the moment. Has anyone has a similar issue? I'm willing to try any ideas you may have, it's frustrating how often the phone randomly restarts! Thanks!

For starters I'd ditch all the task killers. Junk... Secondly, have you simply re-flashed the rom and started over fresh? Also, did you change anything else?

Rebel seemed really nice but for some reason I couldn't get Wi-Fi to work with it, so I tried CleanROM instead. Yeah I've re-flashed the ROM and deleted the cache and did a factory reset each time. As of now CleanROM seems to be working fine but I haven't had much time to play a game on it to see if it freezes & restarts quite yet. Thanks for responding!

Are you using Beastmode 4.4 or the kernel that is flashed with viper 2.4.0? I had a similar problem with a game and flashed Beastmode 4.4 and haven't had any issues since. Might help.

Is anyone else having a problem with auto orientation taking a dump every once in a while? It's happened 2 if 3 times since I got the phone on Wednesday...

Yeah it happens to me too...
Hasn't happened to me yet. What, does it just stop rotating or something?
it will stop rotating, and when porgrams like browser, or reader, are opened they are rotated the wrong way, and will not change.
But once rebooted all is normal again.
Weird, happened to me a few days ago too. I couldn't get anything to
rotate...music, browser etc. After reboot it's been fine.
Mine has done it 3 times so far. A reboot fixes it, but it's still lame.
Nope hasn't happened yet. Had a Bluetooth bug where it wouldn't turn on but reboot fixed that.
Update happened to me now. Many software cause it dosn't happen in all software at the same time.

has anyone found a fix?
Some of what I am seeing reminds me of times I had a bad flash.
Just did a factory reset, and if that does not work will try reflash using the RUU.
It's done it to me twice in the week since I got it - still using stock OS. Restart seems to fix it. It's a little aggravating, but nowhere as bad as all the crashes I had with the Atrix before I traded it back for the Inspire.
It seems to be in the kernel. When I made my custom kernel it did that all the time, has something to do with the Auto-rotation configs. I believe a kernel compiled from our newest sorce fixes this, at least I'm pretty sure.
It happens to me every time I have a LWP enabled that use the accelerometer, like galaxy core and metal rain. Selecting another LWP or disapbling the feature in the LWP solves the problem for me. I saw this behavoiur in the stock rom, tpc's rom and ar 3.2rom.
Happened to me a little after flashing coredroid when all the roms started coming in. Reboot fixed it of course. I remember frantically toggling the auto rotate and fearing a dead orientation sensor.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
It's happened to me in the past too. I did notice that the problem stopped when I stopped using the "reddit is fun" application though, and it hasn't happened ever since. Maybe the problem lies within certain applications? Could just be a coincidence. Might try using the app again later to see if it happens again.

Don't know, it happened to me 2 times when bone stock not even rooted, didn't happen at all on my rom/kernel until last night with my kernel which is latest source, unless there was some new source posted in the last few days, but I don't think there has been since there's been no update.
Maybe it is hardware.
Either way its completely random
Why are our sensations rebooting like crazy these days?At first, I thought it was just my phone, but soon realized everyone has the same issue.
No matter what ROM I install, my phone turns off randomly. Whats going on? Someone please help if they have a solution cos I am seriously beginning to hate my sensation.
It has been about a year since most sensations were bought...
That's 500 charging cycles and for some batteries that's enough
Take your battery out and see if it got swollen or some liquid oily marks are visible, or even tiny silvery cracks.. those indicate the battery is dying.

Could this reboots be caused by bad radio or firmware? I am getting them too, pretty often and the story is same - different roms, nothing changed.

Need more information. Are you overclocking too high? Undervolting? Flashing back and forth between kernels without reverting some of the files they change? Mixing 3.32/3.33 firmwares and ROMs? Matching radio/RIL combos? Restoring old data through Titanium Backup? There's a whole bunch of stuff that could cause reboots TBH.
Have you tried running stock (firmware, kernel, ROM, radio) for a few days to see if the reboots keep coming? If they do, then it's your hardware and you should look into warranty if you still have one. If not, then it's something you're doing during your setup process.
I've just been running rooted stock ICS lately and my phone has been incredibly stable. I did get some reboots last week, but it turns out they were caused by the recent update to Google Maps. I uninstalled the updates and the problem went away.
Had mine a year and never had reboot issues!
You know what I love most about this thread?

All i can really think of is that in the viper rom you have the option under tweaks to let the screen turn on when a message arrives. Mine used to do the same thing every once in a while but it was somehow connected to my data connectivity jumping all over the place so i re-flashed and wiped caches which did the trick.
Hope you get the problem resolved for your nieces sake!
I'm having the same issue with my Evo LTE

If there are still people with this kind of issue,
I would recommend to check for "wakelock" usage.
As third-party apps can use "wakelock" to turn on the screen, there might be some buggy app which is using the feature improperly.
I had the same case before, turned out that "Naver Mail" app was using Screen wakelock to turn the screen on randomly.
As a solution, there is an app in Google Play called "Wakelock detector" which has a feature to show statistics of Screen wakelocks.
GooD luck
Random Screen On caused by faulty power adapter
I changed my power adapter for charging, and the problem went away immediately. I assume it was the result of either drawing too much power, or not enough to charge the phone. Anyway, there you go. Hope it helps! :silly:
Hey,
I have a problem and I really don't know what is causing this. My GS3 is restarting several times a day, it seems it happens especially when it is in my jeans pocket and I change my seating position or something like that, so maybe the on/off button gets pushed or maybe there is some pressure on the phone for a short moment, but all this shouldn't lead to a phone restart?? It also happens several times in a really short time, so sometimes it restarts, I just type in my pin, put it back into my pocket and after 15 seconds, it happens again...... What could be the reason? It happenend with the Standard Rom and also now after the update to 4.1(official), so that might be not the reason.
Any ideas how I can fix this?
When you say standard rom, did you mean stock samsung/verizon rom?
its probably the kernel....or the incompatibility of kernel and rom. Try a known stable rom: cleanrom 2.1 with cleankernel 1.2 or synergy r64/68/73. My guess is your hot reboots will resolve.
....also if youre overclocking or under-voltage the phone, could cause instability too.
Call verizon and tell em you are gettibg random reboots and they will next day air you a replacement. I had one that was doing that too when it was stock. The last OTA supposedly helped with phones that did random reboots.

Hey so after a few days of the new update running OK I started having random reboots! I noticed on a few other sites people complaining about the same issue of reboots multiple times of the day! Just wanted to let everyone know a possible solution to the issue! I have went through multiple FDR's and did come to the conclusion that the random reboots for my phone were associated with a new update to the chrome browser and were easily fixed by uninstalling new update and telling it not to automatically update so hope this helps anyone who may be having the same issues!!!
Well so much for that after trying everything its back to rebooting again? I love my phone but seriously considering putting it against a wall!!!

Never had that issue with the new update. Try doing a factory reset or try the new fast boot files to start fresh. Not sure why chrome would be an issue.try the chrome beta version but I suspect chrome had nothing to do with the reboot just a bad initial update.

My Wife's phone is doing the Random Reboot thing since the 4.1.2 update as well. I did a Factory Reset on it and it still does the same thing.
I suspect an application is doing it? Because I put the phone in Safe Mode and it never rebooted while in Safe Mode.
But I have No Idea of how to tell which app is doing it, other than to uninstall a random app after every reboot to find out which one it is.
But I would like to try this fast boot option? I know how to get the phone into fastboot, but which files are you redoing? What exactly are your doing ?
Have the same problem. I have done:
SBF 4.1.2
FDR
WIPE
Even tried running a parallel rom with safestrap (bakatang)
The chrome thing did not work
Keeps freezing. Seems the problem is way worse when having the phone play some music.
I am just about unlocking the thing and SBFing back to 4.1.1 but not really interested into unlocking the bootloader. That would be the last choice for me.
If someone knows of some way to fix this, please help, this used to be a great phone...
No problem here with the sfr rom... used for over 1 month now and no problem and my system is always fast...

I've been running some tests for about a week now since I got my RAZR and the results are interesting... I've had lockups and reboots multiple times a day, most often while doing something involving sound i.e. listening to music or playing a game or video. I've tried stock and custom 4.1.2 ROMs and custom 4.2.2 ROMs and it persists so I'm inclined to say its either bad audio software or faulty audio chips. This is everything I've done:
1. turning off sounds (keeping phone on vibrate/silent) pretty much eliminates the random lockups/reboots I got from receiving multiple texts or calls at once. I noticed if I bombarded the phone and made it ring a lot it gave the same results as listening to music but if its just a text or email or call here and there during regular use it the phone works fine.
2. Listening to music, either streamed or local from phone/SD storage and through headphones or speaker, would cause skips and audio cutting out. After a few minutes of this the phone will lock up completely and reboot itself. Strangely enough it happened only rarely or not at all while streaming music via bluetooth to a stereo.
3. I don't think its anything kernel related or if it is its not causing visible errors or wake locks. My battery seems to be just fine through all this.
4. I have tried multiple music/video players, put my SD card with music in another phone and the music plays fine, stock ROMs with nothing disabled/removed still has the issue, custom ROMs debloated and modified also have the issue. I think I've just about covered every base I can as an end user to track down what's causing it but I'm open to suggestions.
I have a replacement scheduled so I will see if that fixes it, I have seen this problem reported quite a few times all over the interwebz but there are also a lot of people not having the issue either so idk. If there are any Devs or anyone skilled in android-fu that can read logcats I will be more than willing to get those for you. Sorry for the essay everyone lol
tl;dr Like others I have freezes and reboots from what seems to me to be an audio software/hardware problem, either built in or from the 4.1.2 update

one solution that has worked for me is silencing the phone or putting it on vibrate and I haven't had a freeze or reboot in almost 2 days... the problem seems to me to be related to audio/sound and not listening to music or watching videos along with silencing ringtones has put a stop to it which kind of confirms my suspicions... I will try and flash back when I can but it'll need a day or 2 of field testing to confirm if its a solution

got it revived with Mattlgroff's new 1.2 utility, was able to force it to fastboot mode... the problem seemed to be some kind of partition error, I tried redownloading the sbf files thinking it was a bad file and got the same error so idk what it is since I'm on stock unrooted 4.1.2. My bootloader is already irreversibly unlocked so that won't be a problem lol but I am a n00b to RSD Lite and Moto devices so I'll tinker with it more when I get some free time
edit: I did have a Maxx HD way back at launch for a month or so running stock 4.1.1 and it ran perfectly, so my idea is its kernel/codec/software related. Hopefully a custom ROM (or hell even stock) with Hashcodes Qcom kernel will fix the issue we're having

I talked with vzw service, the assistant said that 2% of the phones were having this issue, wich for this kind of technology is a pretty big number of phones. Suuggested to send it to Motorola but since its rooted its almost sure not to be replaced by them. What is strange is that not everyone is having this issue. I would be almost sure Motorola is going to release a fix for this, but would not count days. Getting kind of frustrated with this phone I used to like so much. Thinking of going the htc route bc this is getting unbearable.

My wife & I both have this phone and still are constantly being rebooted. This is even after the software update. I have been wiped, factory reset, and everything possible, but I've not called for a replacement yet. Normally I havea worse luck with those.
Wife used to love this phone, now she hates it and hates we changed from AT&T to Verizon since we have no backup Verizon phones. At least we could take the sim out and go to the iPhone that's floating around the house when the phone went to pot before. Makes me really hate suggesting that we go back to Moto phones since that's all that I've used on Verizon.
Wonder if big red will get the new HTC One....
