As I understand it, the device would recognize a flash drive
but the system software doesn't explicitly know that the USB A
host port can hold removable storage, so it needs to be manually
unmounted. I figured worst case I could use ADB or terminal shell
commands to sync and umount?
thanks
Hello all,
I have Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo V.
So I upgraded the phone to ICS 4.0.3 and it seems I cannot find an option to encrypt phone under settings > security.
What I have found is this:
If i connect to pc through usb I need to enter my screen password in order to be able to read the SD Card.
BUT, when I remove the sd card and enter it to an external card reader ALL data are available.
Is there no option to fully encrypt the SD Card in ICS?
What the heck?
in fact, even the google stock ics doesn't support external Sd card encrryption too.
the reason why you must input the screenlock password to make Sd card visible when you connect your phone to pc is that you are using MTP connection mode, the mode will hide the storage units unless you unlock the screen. that's to say, if you change the connectivity mode(Settings->Xperia->Connectivity) to MSC, Sd card will be visible even you don't unlock the screen.
P.S.
#in MSC mode, only Sd card can be found, since internal storage doesn't support the MSC mode.
#you must unplug the usb cable or you can't change connectivity mode
Thank you for your answer!
So far you were the only one who gave me an insight on what's happening.
And thank you for letting me know that the sd is not encrypted but "invisible".
I'm rooted only. I tried transferring files to both the internal memory and sd card and nothing was working. I'm wondering if it's the write protection in kk that's doing this? Also I have power saver Mode on, does that affect it? I did turn it off but still didn't work. I had USB debugging checked and the notification shows mtp. Is there something I'm missing?
I don't want to s-off, will exposed give me a solution for this? I haven't played w it but wonder if there's a solution there.

Just to verify, you have the HTC Sync Manager installed on your PC correct? I would suggest you reinstall the Sync Manager, just to ensure that your problems are not stemming from a botched install.
The write protections implemented in Kit Kat only apply to apps accessing the external SD card in specific write scenarios, not you accessing your M8's internal memory via computer. They still allow for apps to write to the external SD card IF ALLOWED IN THE ORIGINAL APP PERMISSIONS (such as for package specific directories), though, like in the case of file managers, you will no longer be able to modify/create/delete the contents of your external SD card. You could try installing the Xposed Framework with this module, but in your case, I doubt they will be of any help.
Thanks for the reply. I'll try to reinstall my htc sync manager. Hopefully that'll do the trick.
As for the xposed part, it took me forever but I finally got it to work... Makes things easier for me to backup w tb instead of constantly transferring from internal to ext.
I have an LG Metro PCS phone that I just recently was able to root w/towelroot and was able to transfer apps to the SD card by using terminal on my Mac (Mavericks) system. 1. I plugged the droid in and (Android File Transfer) would open and I was able to manipulate the phone.
2. When I was on my Linux MInt laptop I tried to do the same thing but Linux would not see the phone so I screwed around with it and was not successful. 3. Now that I am back on the Mac I cannot see the phone through AFT and so I cannot manipulate the device for apps and moving to SD card.
What did I do that F'd up the MTP functionality? Any help from you Guru's would be greatly appreciated. BTW ---Great forum and website!!!! :fingers-crossed:
This app was written by Jrummy and states that it's for Kit Kat (he should probably update it as it still works). I've used it on every device I've owned since Kit Kat without a single issue. Just run the app and uninstall it when you're done (or don't but it's pointless after you've ran it). It's making a very simple (and reversible) change.
Root is required!

I use this app to enable apps to write on micro SD card

It worked fine on all my phones including moto X PE. It works on KitKat and Lollipop
Does anyone know how to use your SD card as Mass Storage when you connect it to your computer?
Currently, to write to the phone from the computer, you have to use MTP. It's too slow though. I want to be able to access my external SD like a flash drive.
I have to eject my SD card from my phone and use a SD card adapter to connect it to my computer anytime I want to make any changes.
If I could mount SD card as Mass Storage while phone is connected to computer via USB, that would make things a lot easier.

When I connect my Mate 7 to the computer, it gives me the option to mount it as a regular flash drive or as MTP.
So, I think it's possible through a software mod.
All,
I just picked up a new Pure, and already have it rooted, and while I have read/write, I can't get the dates to change to the creations date, instead, it has the copy date. Will I need a custom ROM to fix this bug???
(I use a backup program to put "MY" file on the SD, and it tries to use the date to see if there's a change, but can't because it can't change the date. I use to be able to do this with rooted devices.)
Def not working on mm
Any trick for Android 6.0.1? Can't find any working method..
nop dont work on mm, tried many apps and google, no fix
Anyone with a custom ROM know if Writes and datestamp work correctly. (Not per Google)

There is no fix for Marshmallow other than using SD card as external storage?
I have my SD Card set up as portable on my 6.0 Pure, and BitTorrent Sync has issues writing to it. It works perfectly fine on my internal device storage, but starts encountering complete screwups on the SD Card. It did work when I had the SD Card formatted as adoptable, internal storage though.

- Does Xposed Framework runs on this custom rom?
- How many SOT are you getting?

Yep Xposed runs on this ROM, it's a great one. For those here for the original thread, I contacted support and sent them my logs and they were able to solve the problem in the next app update.
I'm getting about 5h SOT with moderate-heavy usage after 24h off the charger and a lot of music (Viper too) playing with the screen off. I have a solid amount of wakelocks disabled too, so that adds to it. Still think I should be able to push out some more.
