This was suppose to be one of the main features for this phone.
When you start to take burst pics it only flashes for the first pic then no flash for the rest, then all but the first pic look dark and crappy.
Is this normal? Or is my phone defective?

If you want decent camera performance, buy a camera, no phone is going to be able to give you what you are looking for. If a phone could fire the flash successfully in burst mode the battery would be flat in minutes.
Use a different camera app then, that can have the flash(LED) turned on all the time. ZoomFX is capable of doing just that.
As others have said already, if you want such advanced features as a stroboscope, you will have to pay a lot of money for a good system camera.
Even my, at the time, expensive(~4500sek, google it for currency exchange) H2 isnt capable of flashing the flash fast enough for burst fotos.

Is there any way to disable the low battery indicator that disables the camera if your battery is at a certain level? Last night I was trying to capture some footage from a show and my phone wouldnt let me take any photos. I can care less if I have 10% left I still want to take photos regardless of my battery. There should be a option to still allow taking photos instead of completely disabling the app....
Is there any way tso get rid of the warning through a rom? Im sure there are plenty of people who think this would come in handy!
A+++++ WOULD AGREE WITH THE REQUEST AGAIN!
Also is there any way to allow access to the camera right from the lockscreen? The more I use the Charge camera the more I realize that it takes a freaking fantastic photo (at least better then my own digital camera) in good lighting! I've got my entire trip to Europe and my friends two weddings on my phone but I missed so many good kodak moments because of the battery life.
Indeed... I've found this very bothersom being in Vegas for the Electric Daisy Carnival and not even half way through the show my phone stops letting me take pictures or videos. Definately missed a ton of kodac moments.
I would really appreciate it if someone can find a work around to this because im sure this is going to happen to many people eventually.
Is this tied in to the power saver option under Display settings? I can test this myself when I'm running low later.
Sent from my SCH-I510 using Tapatalk
Under Display there's a power saver checkbox. Doubt that's going to do any good, seems to be display related only. Odd that unlike HTC phones, their's no fine-tuning of power saver features with the Sammy.
You could always get a third party camera app from the Market; they don't have that battery limitation. They all use the same lens and sensors, so picture quality should be comparable to the stock camera app as long as it's a decent camera app. I use Vignette and Camera 360 Plus on all my phones in certain situations. I can't tell the difference between the actual pictures.
Seriously, though, if my phone's my only camera option, especially at something like a Europe trip or a wedding, I think I'd shove a spare battery or two in my pocket or wallet (I carry a Charge's battery in one fo the pockets of my wallet, they're very thin) to avoid this problem.
Is it possible to integrate or disable this through a rom?
I know it is possible, I had that option on my Vibrant. One of the DEVs over at Team Whiskey (as I recall) came up with a CWM flashable zip file.
From my Charge - XDA Premium
Well lets make this happen! I would seriously support a developer that comes up with a fix or just all together getting rid of that warning. I should be able to take pictures whenever i want to regardless of my battery life
My battery is no where near low at the moment to test this out. But you can give this a shot and see if it works. Flash this in recovery. This is for EE4 only.

I've noticed that the camera's burst mode doesn't save all the pictures. I'll use burst mode for a couple seconds, and count maybe 14-15 shutter-clicks, but then when I review the photos afterwards there's only 4 or 5 pics there. Anyone else get this?
I noticed that it makes the camera shutter sound a few more times than it actually takes pictures. Turn sound off and you won't hear it.

You misunderstood. I don't care that it makes a shutter sound. The phone is advertised as being able to take ~5pics per second, which is in line with the shutter sound. However, only 1 photo per second (roughly) are showing up when I'm done. I'd like the burst mode to work as advertised. If anyone else has any feedback on the shutter-to-photo ratio, I'd appreciate hearing it, so I know if it's just my phone, or everyone's.
I just did it, held it down for a few seconds and got 12 pictures, definitely not only 4-5 pictures.

Would you say you heard the shutter sound around 12 times? That is, does the shutter sound match the number of photos taken?
I'll try clearing my Camera data/cache and see if it helps.
EDIT: Nope. I wonder if it's a hardware thing. Too bad I'm already in "tampered" mode.

They don't check for that. I'd swap it after calling tech support and getting a confirmation number. Factor reset would be worth a shot at this point as well.

Yeah, good call on those things.
However, I was just outside for a smoke break and the rate seemed much closer to what it should be, so I'm thinking maybe the lighting conditions affected it. I'll continue doing some testing, and if I still find it unsatisfactory, I'll contact HTC support.

It sounds like it clicks more times than there are photos, but not by much. It clicks so fast to count haha
I just did burst mode and I tried to count as fast as I could... but I got 20 pictures. I was able to count 15 clicks but I think I missed a few, so this sounds like my phone is accurate.
Is your battery below 50% when you do this? Remember, the crazy htc power features disable a core and downclock the other to 1GHZ when battery is low (I don't believe we know what the threshold % is yet). Try it on a full charge. It could just be cpu unable to keep up when in this mode.
Less light= slower shutter speed. I think the shutter sound is probably set and has no correlation to the pictures.Which would explain why Red got more pictures than clicks and you had the opposite reaction.
I always turn sound off, so I never took notice.

Dim lights 8-9 shutter sounds produced 4 pictures, with all of the lights on 8-9 shutter sounds produced 8 pictures.

Yes, this is exactly what I've found. I took some pics outside during the day on the weekend and the number of photos was pretty much what I expected. Took more photos outside after the sun went down and the number was significantly decreased.
I can live with this. Maybe I'll try playing around with the exposure/ISO settings to see if I can increase the rate in low light.

The burst mode shutter sound is a default sound and doesn't necessarily match up with the amount of pics taken. Bear in mind also that the amount of pics taken in burst mode (for example 5 seconds) varies depending on the lighting.

More light = faster shutter speed = more pics.

I want to see if anybody else is experiencing this issue.
Please post if you're rooted/unrooted and if you are rooted, what ROM you're using.
At this point in time, I have submitted a support ticket to HTC as well.
If you are in a low light/low-ish light setting (maybe even more, haven't tried all of them), and you hold your camera close to an object, the phone has trouble auto-focusing. It will attempt to focus, then revert to the blurred image. It seems that the only way to get focus is to find a way to get the camera to focus that image at a moderate distance and move it in close...but very slowly. That doesn't even work all the time. I think this is a SW bug...but I'd like to be sure.
I'm running CleanROM 3.1. (I've experienced this on CleanROM 3.0 as well )
Opened up camera and had the same problem you were describing, then just focused on a farther away object and tried to refocus up close and it worked fine (not using the focus on the object and slowly move closer method)
I tried that, it works sometimes and doesn't work other times (Automatically tries to re-focus and then reverts to a blurry, pre-focus image). It seems inconsistent, but it can work to get focus on close objects. I'm still hoping that HTC irons this one out

I have been looking at this since I picked up the HOX on release day. I'm now running fully stock ROM on the official 1.85 OTA release and I have seen a major increase in up-close focusing from the camera. I haven't made any changes to settings, but since the OTA I have absolutely noticed a marked improvement in ability to lock focus on macro-level objects, even when not in macro (Close Up) mode.
I've had this and even replaced my phone, AND tried several store units and they all do it.

News flash, cameras struggle to focus on subjects in low-light. My $5000 Nikon D4 doesn't always achieve focus correctly. So expecting a cell phone to be perfect in low light is ridiculous.

Hello, i'm from Colombia and my english is not that good.
But i'll try.
27th Dec 2012 i bough and HTC One X at&t from Amazon, got delivered by Jan12 Saturday 2013 about 15:00 hours, retrieved, unboxing bla bla bla, i was testing the device, i came with ICS 4.0.4, Sense 4 and RUU 2.20, everything was working fine, data, wifi, screen, sound, but, when i was about to try the LED Flash of the Camera (to find out if it has AF Assist Lamp, witch it hasn't) i found a very weird artifact
This is it, i took 2 photos to a paper on a tablet.
The left one <-- was taken with LED Flash On (NOT AUTO, ON) and the right one --> was taken with it off (OFF, NOT AUTO)
This is so frustrating, practically there is no way to take photos with flash, is not a hardware issue (i think cuz when i record a video and take a photo while recording with LED LIGHT ON, the photo is fine, there is no such artifact), another way was changing the auto whitebalance to fluorescent and the photo becomes a little decent, and i thoght that i can handlet it, but no, when on Instagram, Facebook Cam, Cymera, etc. There is no sense Cam interface to take Photos while recording a video, neither the auto white balance option to get rigde of the "sephie like effect" so, i decided to change the ROM just to try:
Tried Vyper XL 3.0 and 2.4 and was the same ****, so i decided to reflash the device back to stock with and RUU 2.20, right now it has OEM ROM with Bootloader relocked and no root. and is in the same that was when i got it.
So, the Q are:
Is there another person who has experience the same issue?
Is there a way to fix it? Since i think it is a software problem, maybe yes maybe not.
Thanks.
I was thinking about sending back to LA for Warranty but... It will cost me $74 and a month of waiting.
i searched on Google and here but found nothing.
UP (?)
I don't think there is anything to "fix" here, and the camera is basically working as intended. It looks like just a matter of taking a picture of a completely white frame combined with the flash, which is throwing off the white balance. I'm sure there a plenty of other color/light combinations that will similarly result in odd white balance results. Its just a computer algorithm that is trying to interpret the lighting conditions and guess the "best" white balance, and its not going to be correct all the time.
You've already found the workaround, which is to either turn off the flash, or change the white balance manually. Or you might be able to fix the color after the fact with the built-in editing feature or 3rd party apps. I certainly wouldn't suggest warranty service, and don't think it will fix the problem anyway.
Flash isn't recommended for macro/close range shots, anyway. You get unsightly reflections like the one in your example. Even aside from the "sepia" tone, your second (no flash) example just plain looks better in every way. So why even use the flash, unless you for some reason have a need to regularly take photos of documents in low light, requiring a flash?

Wtf? xd
I have also a Infuse 4G, 8 Mpx too, LED Flash, and the results with the Flash on, no matter if it's needed or not, are as it should be.
But this? here are two more examples, and i just took about 50 pictures, all with the LED On, and the sephie tone is everywhere, from a bathroom with zero light to outside, with sunlight, and even blocking the LED light with the finger.
This is so frustrating. I hope that is there a fix .
Another factor may be that the white balance by default is significantly "over-saturated", presumably by HTC to make colors more vivid and "pop" more. This could be why you are seeing this effect on this phone, when you don't on other phones or digital cameras.
But the latest photos you posted look pretty funky. Also, I've also tried to duplicate the effect by taking a picture of a printed page, and can't get the sepia tint. In fact, my photos actually look more white with the flash (more of a yellowish tint with flash off). These factors make me re-think my previous statement that it is working the way its supposed to.
Does the yellowish tint happen with subjects farther away too? Such as taking a picture of a person or landscape?
Defect with the camera? Maybe.
A "fix" aside from repair or exchange? Doubtful. The fact this issue persists across multiple ROMs suggests it may be a hardware problem.

Couldn't hurt to try a AOSP-based ROM. ViperXL uses a different camera from stock 2.20 firmware, although its a newer version of the Sense camera.
Same issue anyone?
Laggy in what way? The UI, camera interface or shutter speed?
The phone is junk.
Half baked software on the camera, plenty of hardware issues. Instead of releasing 5 phone a year Sony should stick to 1/2 and refine the software/hardware.
Its 2017 and the camera software and output is now basically behind that on the iPhone 6. Hell my Z3 compact takes better pictures.
I'm sorry you feel that way... Go back to iPhone! This is the best handset from Sony in sometime now and none of the problems you mentioned have been highlighted. You must be having a localized issue so stop thrashing categorically as it's isolated to you. Constructive criticism goes much further than complaints

I guess you refer to the camera speed when shutter key is pressed half-way (autofocus locked in). This is "normal", it's because the predictive capture is on, the camera is taking a lot of pictures, it happens in auto mode. Try to switch to manual mode and see if the problem still occurs.

Regardless, all phones have issues. If you don't like it, simply sell/return it and move along. No need to be salty.
