Asus tf101 won't read in computer - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a few problems here... I was updating my cm unofficial Rom last night and before I did I made a mistake of using Rom manager and put the latest touch recovery on it.... I can boot to recovery and tried several times to flash over it but stays the same. Second I can cold boot to cm 10 but don't have wifi at all.... So I can't re flash through goo manager. Main problem is when I plug the tablet in the computer it charges but won't read it... I tried re installing all drivers I tried 3 cables and 2 computers.... Please if anyone knows how to get this thing to read so I can push new software to it.. Jeff

If your data is not that important, use Easy Flasher to go back to stock.
Then root it, install Goo Manager and in the settings, install openrecoveryscript for TWRP recovery and there's roms and other stuff in Goo Manager as well.

It sounds like I had this same experience with the recovery problem . You have to revert back to 5.4.0.4 or so. I dont remember exactly where I found it but you also must use a terminal emulator t suppress your current version AFTER you flashed it from your current recovery yet BEFORE you go back to view the older version after its flashed, I know there isn't much information there but I looked and looked and looked and finally found this way, hope my information serves you as at least a starting point to fix it

After two days of none stop I finally got it out of cwm recovery loop using some commands in terminal... I was able to flash new recovery w goo manger using blue tooth Internet connection bc wifi was down... I was then able to use new recovery and restore an old nandroid.... However I still can't get it to read via usb to computer.. Tried 3 cords... Windows xp, Windows Vista, and windows 7 all with Asus utility and drivers installed.... I can't get it to read in apx mode either.... I tried to flash a stock rom but now getting unable to mount /staging..... Please someone help

This MAY help, go to your Settings>Storage>Menu (Three dots on top left of screen) once there check to make sure it is connecting as a media device. This is just a suggestion as I have not actually tried this out and am also interested for similar reasons if it will work.

I get the same warning, but it works fine regardless. I always figured it was for some other devices that had that partition...

Tried it still not working... I did a full wipe of all data and internal in TWRP recovery and then restored a nandroid of stock rom w root and still nothing... I tried to full wipe of all available options in recovery and loaded recover 4.2.1 and again nothing computer won't read it and got the staging error at then end.... I have a fully functional tablet except for usb and this could be a problem if it bricks.... The last rom I had on there before problems was cm 10 12-30-12 before I tried eos 4 and this all began... I was only available to load cm back on but with out wifi out of all ROM's bc all failed at install..Finally got an old nandroid restored w new recovery after the cwm loop was solved. so everything is working except usb . I have been reading and reading seemsike common issue but no fix...

Hey,
I have the same problem, the ASUS Service center told me that motherboard needs to be replaced. They are charging me around Rs. 14000 (~$250) for the motherboard replacement which i believe is too much. Kindly suggest whether you were charged the same or did you get it done from elsewhere.
Also, I initially got the problem due to failed CWM recovery and thus it seems to be software issue. Is there any way it can be recovered without motherboard replacement.

I actually bought it through walmart and had the protection plan... I'm getting a refund for full amount since parts aren't available... $540.00 refund check... The only problem I had was connecting it to the computer via usb...It wouldn't read... I also had a clicking noise at boot... The talet ran fine... I'll take the refund and just get another tablet now

[Q] HELP xoom root!

ok so i rooted my xoom the other day flashed hammer head 2.1. restored my tablet to stock rooted rom buwhen i did i have now found a way to lock my device. i can boot up and have my su icon available to me however i cannot gain root access even through adb it tells me the file system is read only. so i figured i some how unrooted the device and proceeded to begin the root process for honeycomb. however when trying to push su over to the tablet it tells me the file failed to transfer because the file system is read only what do i do now? Any help would be appreciated.
Ok i have now some how erased my device completely it stops at the moto dual core boot screen. I still have cwm but thats it. Im at a loss guys. Bout to warranty this by runnin over it!

your a noob mate seriously... these board are full of people like you... 1.. download the stock images from
http://developer.motorola.com/products/software/MZ604_HWI69.zip/
if your device is a wifi only and then push the files with fastboot...
ie.. unzip the folder into where the adb fastboot exe are
1. fastboot flash system system.img
2. fastboot flash boot boot.img
3. fastboot flash user user.img
4. fastboot flash recovery recovery.img (as you obviously cant handle root..)
Dont have to be an ass about it. But yeah already tried that when i try to push the files it tells me there is no such directory found. So i made sure in cwmr the system was mounted then it tries to transfer but tells me the directory is read only. So i tried the unlock procedure to make sure the tablet was unlocked. everything goes smoothly till i try to transfer the files again.

Not talking mounting in cwm here bud
Get to fastboot mode not android recovery same process power plus vol down
Then flash the files not push as mounting in cwm only put the files on sd card not flashing it outright from what your reply was
I was a noob once and soft bricked everything and yet i read and read and fixed stuff myself through searching.. Cuz ultimately if its bricked what do u have to lose then ey lol just find and try everything cant make a worse paperweight than one u may already have eh
But get to fastboot not cwm then flash the files like i said and it will almost certainly work

Thats my other problem my sd card slot isnt wrkn that was my initial instinct. If i try to flash to the sd card it says no directory found. Ive used 3 different sd cards and get the same message. Im really thinkin i got a bad sd slot even when it was rooted and running i had issues with the sd card not wrking. I had several back ups on it when it did wrk and those dissappeared as well. I bought the xoom soley because of the sd card slot was pretty much going to be my saving grace when doing back ups if i ever messed up. I tried wrking it in fastboot as well if i try to flash to the system its read only. If i flash to the sd card directory not found. I know these questions are irritating to more savy individuals and i looked around trust me the last thing i like to do is say der i dun broke it i need an adult. Im just makin sure i didnt over look something more savy ppl know about. I honestly think its bricked at this point. Ive tried what you said and any other way i can think of but i alway get some kind of error.

Ok thats a very helpful link. Did not know they had a special recovry for the xoom or realize that it wiped out all media if i didnt have this recovery. Lesson learned however i think its bricked solid now cuz it wont charge or come on at all may very well be a bad unit but i c where i went wrong with su as well i flashed 3.0 with out the chmod 4577 during the su update from cwm. Well im going to grab another one from bb and c what happens the unit is non responsive at this point. Thanks to everyone that posted here for the help.

you needed to flash the recovery with FASTBOOT.. not adb push chmod stuff; much easier and the process works
read the top post again.. get the recovery.img file (the v3 one the other fellow told you to grab)
1. hold the volume down button and the power button... some text will come on up the top about fasboot protocol and then
2. leave it plugged in to your computer and DONT TOUCH THE XOOM...
3. get your cmd.exe prompt window out and navigate to where your adb.exe AND fastboot.exe files are (should be tools or platform-tools...)
4. Place the recovery.img file into the explorer window where the adb.exe and fastboot.exe both are.... (this should be there as u keep trying to use adb commands but do it again to make sure)
5. type fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
thats the recovery.img flashed...
Got my xoom replaced the other day works fine have root flashed the above mention cwm and everything worked fine. Funny thing tho when they checked to see if the original device had been unlocked they said it was still locked and they gave me a replacement. Other wise id have had to use the warranty i bought. TWRP from CWM???

Was gonna give TWRP recovery a try... I am currently using CWM and didn't know if it would be safe to just use the goo app and flash TWRP that way. I have always used CWM and wanted to try something new and just want to be safe when going about it.

Yes you can install TWRP any way you like. One recovery will simply overwrite the other. Nothing to worry about.
My only brick
The one time i ever truly bricked a phone after close to 30 times rooting and unlocking boot loaders was with TWRP and this phone. I am talkin complete brick, like qualcom drivers request show up on windows brick, the kind brick that you just throw at a window, because you got no charging light, no vibration, no light what so ever.
Btw i was only flashing a rom
I never touched TWRP after .
Thanks for the input guys..... Gonna stick with CWM for now. Seen a fair amount of negative stuff towards TWRP in the forums and don't want to risk anything.

Seconded.
Used the gooapp to flash twrp and haven't had any problems. In fact I switched over from cwm because while installing liquidsmooth cwm kept giving me error 7. Everything I googled told me it was a problem with my recovery, so switched to twrp and presto
Although watch which version of twrp because I was reading the Cleanrom lite thread and ppl were having issues with the latest twrp at the time of their postings. It was around end of September that they were saying this, I believe.

I used to use cwm and now have been using twrp and have never had a problem. This guy above you can't blame twrp for your brick you don't know if that's what it was. Twrp I like better cause I can move my backup folder and copy it even to another computer. Cwm has the blob folder which you can't see which files belong to which backup so you can't just move one backup you have do do them all

Don't know what you were looking out but CWM is the one where the wipes/format are on different pages. All wipe options in TWRP are on the wipe page right next to each other. Newest version now released.

3emodd recovery

Okay. I bought a old Samsung Infuse and I have to say I love it. But I would like to install clockworkmod recovery. I read that in order to do this however I need to get modded version of Samsung's recovery known as 3emodd. Now I can't find any tutorials on how to flash this recovery. Also there may be a problem with flashing it. My micro usb port on the phone broke. I cant connect it to a computer via a wired connection. But I can use adb via wifi. Any ideas on how to get clockworkmod??

If you flash, it is a certainty that something will go wrong. The only way to fix it is download mode with heimdall or odin. Without a working USB, you will have a paper weight.
It is possible to move files into microsd or by wireless etc...these methods do not replace the recovery method.

[Q] Superoneclick (all versions) causing HDD to run at 100% (window 8)

I am trying to root my G2x running 2.2.2 so I can use my computer to control it while I wait for a digitizer replacement. I have downloaded android SDK manager, Android Screencast, and multiple versions of superoneclick.
Now everything has gone according to plan, until I try to open superoneclick. at first the computer acts as it would normally when it opens a program. but the program never opens. So after a minute or so my computer was operating at a snails pace. so i opened task manager and my HDD was running at 100% which is obviously bad, considering my computer usually operates under 20%.
The instant I end the superoneclick task, my HDD drops back down to normal. And this happens every time I try to run superoneclick.
I was wondering if anyone has experienced this before, and if there is a solution or if im doing something wrong.
As far as i know the only way to root this phone is to flash a rooted rom via clockworkmod which needs to be installed via NVFlash.

It's just the touch function, the bottom inch of screen works. and the top centimeter or so works, but the middle of the screen has no touch function. the phones in great cosmetic condition, but something happened and the charge flex cable died so i replaced that. But when it booted up for the first time in a year or so that section of the touch screen I mentioned didnt work. Oh, and I know me replacing the flex cable didnt cause the screen to go out because it was like that before.
The new digitizer should be in tomorrow. And i'm about to try what you suggested, and then ill come back and report. Thank you.
I rooted my phone by flashing cwm via nvflash and then flashed a g2x root.zip file. The zip file can be found in one of the stickies, if you can't find it and want it let me know and ill get it to you

You should fully research and understand any root/mod process, before you start it. You also shouldn't rely on YouTube guides, this being one of the many reasons.

Ah ok, you did a factory reset in bootloader at some point didn't you, that corrupts your sd card. You will need to format it like Windows instructed, format it to fat32 format and you'll be able to access it again. Unfortunately any data you had on it has been wiped now, I hope there wasn't anything too important on there.
Sent from my Evita
Thanks. I did reformat the SD card as windows asked. Then I copied both files onto my phones SD cars and followed the instructions again using twrp. It said that they were both installed successfully but theCyanogenMod home screen did not come up after completion. When I reformatted the SD card, I just let windows do. I did not set it to format to anything specific. I will try it again when I get home tomorrow from work,. Thanks again for your help.

Just extract the boot.img from the root of the ROM zip, put it in your fastboot folder on your pc, bit your phone into bootloader and connect it to your pc, wait for it to say fastboot usb on your phone display then give this command:
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Now reboot your phone and it'll boot into the ROM.

I get this message pop up from fastboot.exe. ( this application has failed to start because AbdWinApi.Dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix the problem).
