I'm trying to install the Batakang ROM on my Razr HD 925 and it doesn't say anywhere that it requires an unlocked bootloader. I installed safestrap; is that all I need?

I think safestrap works only if the ROM uses the stock kernel. I'm not sure about Batakang ROM (not even sure its for the XT925!! but rather the XT926 (verizon)).
If you want to install full roms with their kernels then yes => you need to get the bootloader unlocked from Motorola.
For Batakang your Stock ROM has to be Jelly Bean, thats it.

Well Moto is diff from the rest in that they will unlock your boatloader for your BUT you loose your warranty!! For me it was totally worth it because the way they build phones nothing is gonna happen.
1) Go to the motorola unlock boot loader website - follow steps and unlock boot loader. (Save all your **** first - this pretty much resets your ROM to stock - so all apps/data goes)
2) Using fastbook / android sdk - you will have to install a a custom recovery.
3) Back up the stock ROM in Recovery (I prefer CWM on the RAZR HD)
4) Download the ROM you want and flash it via CWM.
5) Profit??!?

Best build quality of any android phone out there imo, awesome reception, great screen and huge multi-colored notification light. The battery is iffy for me as I've only drained it a few times but it's normal I guess - nothing outstanding especially since it's 2350mAh.
Batakang ROM works on XT925! No need to have a Verizon XT926 or a unlocked Bootloader.
It runs perfekt on my german o2 XT925 with Safestrab.
Best ROM Version is Batakang for Atrix HD 1.10.
I testet it on my device and it runs smooth and fast.
If you have got questions about Batakang ROM, ask in the BATAKANG ROM Thread, because the Dev knows best!

Thanks to everyone for the replies.
I wound up unlocking the bootloader because the Batakang ROMs were not giving me LTE or even 4G data.
I've figured out how to overwrite the modem_signed file from the stock Rogers ROM into the Australian Jelly Bean ROM and hopefully I will have my LTE data on a fast Jelly Bean ROM!
I really look forward to seeing what the devs will be able to do with this phone. I really hope we get good support.
Is there any way I can get root under Jelly Bean like this?
Thread moved. Please don't post question threads in Development as that's for sharing development
Thanks

Hi there, i have a Motorola Xoom (MZ604 - brazilian) and i got tired of waiting for our official ICS rom so i unlocked it's bootloader and flashed it with a retail USA 3.0 and updated it to ICS 4.0.4... my question is... is there any way to root it now?

Go to http://www.androidsu.com and download the Superuser-3.0.7.zip file, flash that in ClockworkMod recovery. Done. Simple as that.
I think the universal root method should still work fine. I flashed the single zip through CWM recovery awhile back on 4.0.3 without issue, so I doubt you'd have trouble with 4.0.4 (unless something major changed).
Or just install push recovery image thru adb and install custom android 4.0.4 rom already rooted by team eos...

Yeah, I like the TeamEOS flavor of ICS. I can't guarantee it working on your Brazilian xoom, however, if you can use it, it is a great rom. It provides a very stock experience but with many more features that compliment Android 4.0.4 without bloat. There are both nightlies and stable versions, both get updated (when you flash newer versions in recovery) so you won't miss out on any new features. And yes, it is rooted for you.
Of course, there are plenty of other equally great roms from other great developers to try out in case TeamEOS's rom doesn't fit your needs (or if you get flashing-fever).
Just saying, I am not to be held responsible for any damage (yes, there are risks) that happens to anything because of this post.
Hope that helped.
Cheers
It does work on Brazilian xoom. Team EOS rocks.

Oh, if that's the case and if the OP is still interested, unlocking the bootloader, flashing solarnz's recovery and flashing a pre-rooted rom (like EOS) might be the way to go. It also might be worth mentioning that rooting, unlocking the bootloader, and certainly flashing a new rom would probably *void* the warranty on the Xoom.
Just for good measure, I am not to be held responsible for any damage (yes, there are risks) that happens to anything because of this post.
Please read this procedure carefully the one I have shared on xda to root and flash custom ICS ROM on MZ601. The only difference in your case is to download and flash the rom for MZ604.

HI all,
I'm not new to the flashing game, but this asus device seems to be high maintenance.
I wanna install the AOKP 4.2.2 Full Functionality custom rom on my device. Here is how I plan to do it. Can someone verify that this procedure will work as I don't wanna ruin my tablet.
1. I'm gonna root my device using Unlock_v8.apk to unlock bootloader then recovery-jb.img to root.
2. I wanna use GooManager to flash the following files in this order
a) Aokp_R05.zip
b) gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip
c) update.zip (to fix governor issue)
Thats it!! Will this work?
One last question. Is AOKP 4.2.2 Full Functionality a Build or a Milestone?
Thanking you in advance

Be careful, which bootloader do you have installed now?
If it is 4.2, recovery-jb.img may brick your device.
If it is 4.1, I think you need to use Unlock_V7.apk.
Also make sure, which bootloader is supported by the ROM you want to install.
That it has version 4.2 does not mean it will work with the Asus 4.2 bootloader.
There are several threads on upgrading/downgrading the bootloader.
Please read carefully!

Yes, if you are running Asus 4.2 stock ROM, you have bootloader 4.2.
Make sure to read the respective threads carefully. It is not well supported yet and many users bricked their devices by not reading carefully enough.
Specifically: keep away from CWM (recovery*.img) and use only the TWRP version patched specifically for BL 4.2.

Judging from your other comments, you have the new boot loader 4.2, right?
Sorry, but then AOKP 4.2.2 is not for you without downgrading.
For installing TWRP and/or downgrading, use this thread as a starting point; it links to others.
Of course you can skip the part about upgrading to 4.2 boot loader, scroll down a little!
[GUIDE] Update/Recovery/Root/Downgrade Android 4.2.1 on Unlocked/Locked Devices
If you don't want to downgrade, this thread lists the two ROMs that are currently compatible with your bootloader:
[WARINING] DO NOT install a recovery from 4.1 on a 4.2 tablet!
Or you might want to just wait a little. Seems Asus finally released the new kernel source code, so there should soon be more ROMs supporting the new 4.2 boot loader.

Just depends on what fimware version your on if your on 4.21 then your on the newest bootloader just downgrade back to 4.1.1 to be on the last one to us aokp 4.2.2
Is that possible? All the root tools threads I seem to be able to find on here and rzr forum have posts that say it doesn't work with the latest OTA update. Am I missing something here? Is Motorola so actively patching everything that there is no way to get root if the device has the latest OTA update?
Thanks.

Nice, I will give this a try. However, why the 900+ MB Lite? Wouldn't the 3 MB Ultra-Lite work for just rooting and unlocking the bootloader? Or did you have to use the stock stuff as well?
Also, did you try the Toolkit 4.0? Did that fail as well? As far as I can see, both use the same methods for unlocking and rooting!
Cant remember now, I tried all the others and none worked and I stumbled across it
I think the micro download was not enough (sorry cant recall what extra was needed) but I remember on the micro the numbers on the menu did not match with the commands (look at the batch file) but the normal was fine

Yes, you can root your phone. Rooting and unlocking the bootloader are two different things. If you're on the latest update, you won't be able to unlock anyway. If your BL isn't unlocked, you won't be able to use any of the 4.3 based ROMs. I don't think there have been any developed for use on SafeStrap.
If your on the new update you can't unlock your bootloader. Which means the best you'll get get is debloated stock roms.

Debloated stock just means is the Verizon builds, just with some of the extra software taken out and tweaked. It's not like cyanogen mod which had more options and tweaks. But with a locked bootloader its the best your gonna get.

However, you can use Xposed Framework to do a lot of modding/tweaking to a stock ROM. I am running a custom ROM, but I still use Xposed for a lot of things. You can theme your stock ROM in ways that are very similar to having a theme manager on AOSP ROMs.

Which is why I said if you haven't unlocked the bootloader.
Once it's unlocked, it's unlocked. You can't lock it back up because apparently, it's a physical change in the phone, such as a fuse being blown or something like that. At least, that's what I've read. http://blog.azimuthsecurity.com/2013/04/unlocking-motorola-bootloader.html
Apparently, it's something Qualcomm has created called a QFuse. These are software programmable fuses that once blown, they can NEVER be put back to their prior state. In Motorola devices, there is a FORCE_TRUSTED_BOOT QFuse. This is all explained by Dan Rosenburg who is the developer that gave us the ability to unlock our Droid RAZR HDs. it's a good read and explains a lot.
Of course, it never hurts to try and unlock it after downgrading back to the previous version.

doesn't hurt but is 100% pointless, as the system version has nothing to do with the trust zone files that cant be changed back.
the system version serves as a reference point to when it used to be possible in relation to the other files that were irrevocably updated, nothing more.

Abstract: you wanna root your Motorola Razr HD (xt925) ?
You can't go anymore with the "gentle procedure" - which is using Motochopper, a way to root the 4.1.2 without tearing apart your phone.
So either you go back with a stock 4.1.2 and live happily with motochopper and a slow sys, or you follow Motorola instructions to unlock the phone. Be aware that once you enter the code Motorola will provide you'll void your warranty (if you still are under the grace period).

Or am I getting confused with all those names?
Edit: ah yeah, sorry, I've read only "RAZR HD", and I din't pay attention to sysver. My bad.

The 925 is the GSM variant and is unlockable through Moto. The 926 is the CDMA model that is typically used on Verizon and it's not unlockable through Moto.

Hi, RikRong. I'm also new to this XT926 and on the latest firmware I guess (183.46.15.xt926), is there's any new way to unlock bootloader and root this device? I read an old instruction in another post and just bought this device and now I'm so screwed over .

Unfortunately, right now there is no way to root or unlock that build.

Is this still the case? My phone was auto-upgraded to 4.4.2... I'm stuck?
