....thought it would be a good idea for us to begin posting examples of unresponsive links, pop-ups and menus that would normally otherwise work on Full Windows versions.
Hopefully others can confirm whether or not they work on their Surface RTs, and some of the more tech-savvy members can check out the links and we can find some permanent fixes to them!
Getting started....
1) http://autoauctions.gsa.gov/autoauctions/AuctionHouseDetail.seam?linkAuctionHouse=Sparkling+City+AA+San+Antonio&linkAddressCode=I7003#
Click on the day (Tuesday) on the right, then click on any car. A picture of the car and its bio should pop-up. I have not been able to do so on a Surface.

Try choosing a region. I've found the menus to be inoperable.
Windows not wanting competing browsers magnifies this issue,...so if you notice the same, please reply.
Hulu doesn't work on desktop or metro ie. Any menu's built with hover are an issue.
www.wallstreetsurvivor.com/dashboard If you have an account, the site is practically unusable. Their "custom" dropdowns don't show. They show on every browser, the iPad, etc., internet explorer on everything but Windows RT.

I have IE set to open everything in the desktop mode and Hulu works fine. All menus work, the videos play.

We are speaking about using touch not using the touch cover or other input device. If the web menus are built using the hover function they do not work with touch.
... "we" are? I see a thread about differences between Windows RT and "full" versions, not a thread about differences between touch and other inputs. You can use touch with "full" Windows (there have existed touch-based Windows tablets for years, before NT was ever ported to ARM), and you can use a conventional pointing device (USB mouse, Bluetooth mouse, Touch/Type cover trackpad, voice-controlled mouse movement, etc.) with Windows RT.

Is there anyway to get websites that use drop-down menus to behave correctly on the Transformer? Certain websites show the menus when highlighting or clicking them on a PC, but everytime it is tapped on the Transformer it will attempt to load the link, often times failing. The website that comes to mind is Mint.com. Selecting cateogies for transactions is a huge pain with the tablet.
I haven't specifically tried it on my TF, but on my phone I do sort of a cross between a tap-and-hold and a swipe which gives you the equivalent of a hover. It's kind of hard to explain, but basically tap and hold on the drop-down but move your finger before you would get the long-press options.
Thanks for the response. That tip works on the tablet. However, I'm still unable to click certain things on Mint.com. specifically the "edit details" button under each transaction. I also tried clicking it with the mouse pointer but had no luck.
I go back and forth between the stock browser and Opera. Both have their advantages, and when one doesn't work well for something I switch to the other. One of the nice things about Opera is that it uses hardware acceleration so it's noticeably smoother on a lot of sites.
The "edit details" button works in Opera Mini, but bedoig's trick for drop down menus doesn't. Hopefully, they come out with an update to enable the default browser to click with more accuracy. I love the hidden browser menus (bookmarks, back, refresh, etc.).
Sorry, I was actually referring to Opera Mobile. Mobile renders content on the device, whereas Mini renders it on Opera's servers then sends you a compressed version. Not sure if Mobile would give you different results in this case, but thought I'd clarify anyway.
Opera Mini actually works better on Mint.com than Opera Mobile. I can't even select transactions with Opera Mobile. Though it takes two different browsers, I'm happy that I can edit my transactions without having to be on my PC.
Hi,
I'm looking for an app that will allow regular work like:
- Right click
- F5 (or refresh)
- WinKey + R (run)
and etc...
I've tryed 2X and Remote RDP, but none of the support right clicking.
Can anyone suggest anything?
Thx!
SplashTop HD is by far the best RDP app I've used. Haven't used it with a mouse but it works very well with touchscreen (hold for right click).
A slightly older version is included in MyCloud which is already on the tablet, does everything the market app does but hasn't been updated to link you computer via e-mail address for auto lookup off the network.
I used to use Wyse PocketCloud but quickly replaced it when I tried Splashtop.
Yep, SplashTop HD is the best IMO
Splashtop is not really an RDP software.
You need to install a software on the computer that grabs what is on screen and sends that to the tablet.
I use remote rdp, which is real rdp client. Right click is done by clicking and holding. You can even set the screen size of the connection (i use 1280x750) which is perfect for the tablet.
* sigh * Splashtop is the best at what it does.

Ok you have a point there but unless your in a situation where you can't install the streamer on the computer (eg. Server at work ) Splahtop is the best option.
For accessing servers at work I have streamer on my work PC and RPD from there - maybe not as fast as connecting direct but keeps security guys happier
Try PocketCloud Pro
I'm using PocketCloud Pro:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.wyse.pocketcloudfull&hl=en
It's a true RDP client, and should do everything you're looking for.
PocketCloud Pro, true RDP client, with all the features you asked. Also supports other remote access protocols.
Do any support remote desktop to a Linux box?
My favorite is X2.
But I just got my TF101.
I asked the support to implement right-click an F1F12-keys.
They answered they would discuss this in the next meetings.
This would be really great.
btw: There is an app with supports right-click.
I don't remember the name, but the non-trail-version costs about 17€ and has some disadvantages compared to X2.
I love X2 stays connected in the background.
It seems like most of the major the RDP have some form of "right click" functionality. The issue is you have to usually do some special screen press combo or use a context menu somewhere. This is fine for simple operations but is extremely annoying for trying to do serious work or gaming via RDP.
I'm hoping that either splashtop or PocketCloud will support right click via the touchpad's right click or even better via an external mouse that is plugged in or connected via bluetooth. I hear there is no API to support that at the moment and that is the reason no one implements such a thing.
I'd also really like to have secondary buttons on my mouse work (like depressing the scroll wheel etc...). My dream is to be able to use CAD software remotely or maybe even play a game of L4D. Right now it runs and works, just the mouse implementation prevents you from being efficient and is really frustrating to use.
Maybe when ice cream sanwich comes out, the mouse APIs will be included.

I've literally never had a dropped connection. I use PocketCloud all day for work on both windows and linux remote systems. Not saying I don't believe you, just saying I've had a different experience than you.
Pocketcloud is a bit pricey compare to other apps, but it's totally worth it if you use it for business. The on-screen mouse pointer control dial thingy is the best input method I've ever used on a tablet, You can click accurately on the smallest item and see the pointer the whole time, plus it gives you quick access to right-click, the windows key, etc.
Hm, it's really unlikely any app out there is going to support the right click on the transformer dock the way it's configured, but I really want this. Maybe there's a free RDP client out there ripe for modding this functionality in? I don't know how hard it would be.
Actually I use Xtralogic's Remote Desktop and it works PERFECTLY with the dock, including right-click support, and 'hot tracking' the mouse. The ONLY weird thing about it is that you have to double-click-drag, but it's a minor thing...
With Xtralogic's (kinda pricey) app, my TF101 is basically a netbook now, and I couldn't be happier.

Agree on the mouse pointer control dial. that thing is perfect.
Remote RDP should have right click, you may need to check settings? I emailed the guy when the TF first came out, he was able to do it really fast.
right click
First of all thx for sll your replyes, but like someone here said - using combinations is nice but its annoying.
I think that there should some kind of a tweak that you can install on the device that allows the use of right click button everywhere.
Wouldn'tit be nice to use right click features everywhere? Like special functions in the browsre and etc...
I'll be sure to try SplashTop...for now, TeamViewer is my nr. 1.
Hey,
I am considering to buy myself the transformer with the dock and I was wondering, if it would then work as a "real" netbook if I use it in connection with Splashtop? Therefore I have some questions:
* Will all kinds of software (Microsoft Office, Eclipse IDE, etc.) work?
* Are the keyboard and the touchpad fully compatible? Or will I have to use some kind of virtual keyboard although the dock is plugged in?
* How will this affect the battery life?
* Will there be any interferences with surfing the web?
Thank You very much so far!
I had the same thought but I just went and did it.
Even though the asus transformer has an app that is a clone of Microsoft office (Polaris Office) Microsoft office will work.
The keyboard works fine with me. All that the keyboard does is replace the onscreen one, so it has to work.
It will have the same battery life as you would normally have while Wifi is turned on.
I personally noticed that it was a little laggy, but I have really bad internet.
Good luck sir
Thanks for the reply!

What's about the touchpad? Does is also work completely right? It think I read somewhere that using the right-click button causes Splashtop to terminate?

How fast is/was your internet connection? How fast should it be?

I really think that Asus TF together with its Dock are a great team, but I am afraid that it won't fulfill my expectations. Of course, I could buy me a netbook, but I also would like to have the ability to play around with a touch-screen
So honestly, how long have you had the TF (and how long have you used Splashtop) and do you think it is a "good" combination of a netbook and a tablet?
Right click will quit splashtop (it is back) but holding down left simulates right click. On my lan splashtop is almost like running windows locally. Over the net it is as good for most things as any other remote solution but somehow manages to stream video better than any others.

I have to ask this question, but you are aware that Splashtop is a remote desktop solution, and that in order for it to work you must have a PC or a Mac running somewhere on your network (or accessible from the internet), and it is this machine that actually runs your software?
The reason I ask is because you're asking if specific software works with Splashtop - in essence, the software on your "server" machine is immaterial to Splashtop because Splashtop is just a remote desktop.
Regards,
Dave
Hey Dave!
I fully understand that the software has to run on a normal OS and the "output" will be streamed to the TF. The thing is though, I am not sure if the 10 inch display can resize the images so far, that the software can be used productively.
So my question is how good can the display handle "intensive" applications which have a lot of screen elements. Is the small display able to scale it down properly?
When you run splashtop from the transformer, it automatically changes the screen resolution on the host computer to a size that will fit on the transformer screen perfectly (At least in my experience). Once you disconnect your computers screen resolution goes back to what it was set as.
You can choose the following screen resolutions:
800x600
1024x768
1280x720
Best fit to transformer
Native resolution(whatever you currently have set on your windows or mac comptuer)
In practice your primary concern should be the tablet -> mouse situation and having enough bandwidth for what you're doing.
The regular version that is bundled will also tend to disconnect when you go back or to another application, I assume so does the HD.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
One other thing to note is that when you are using the trackpad on the dock, you get the android mouse plus you get the mouse on the computers desktop. The mouse of the computers desktop follows the android mouse around, with a little bit of lag (if you aren't on the same network).
As mentioned above, the right click button on the dock still does act as the back button, exiting the application. Tapping and holding is the way to make a right-click action happen on the host computer.
If standard RDP is an option (if you have a VPN or something), the 2X RDP app works wonderfully with the transformer keyboard dock and trackpad. It actually allows you to use the right-click liek you normally would - it's JUST like sitting in front of a PC....
Like I said though, this is just plain RDP - will not work via the internet without a VPN.... ALso, not good for things like video, etc.....
Hi. I'm planning on getting a transformer, but I'm interested in the following feature:
Is it possible to control your pc:s mouse and keyboard with the touchpad/keyboard of the dockingstation? I know there are several apps that turn your screen into a touchpad for the pc and sends on screen keyboard text to your pc. But I want to be able to use the docking station just as if it was an external keyboard.
Perhaps even the included splashtop app can do this?
I think most remote desktop apps do this, but splashtop does it for sure.
Just remember there is no right-click in Android, even if you use a normal mouse. You have to long-click to 'fake' a right click.
Remote desktop isn't quite what I'm looking for though. I want to see and control my coputer hooked up to my big screen tv and with remote desktop you're logged of and can't see the big screen.
I tried splashtop laptop to pc, but didn't really like it. Sloppy and there was a trail of the mouse pointer making it harder to aim. Better than nothing though.
What I'm looking for is really just a kvm switch without the video. Synergy does this perfectly on a pc. It even shares your clipboard between computers, another thing I really want to see on Android.

Wrong. Thats only when you use windows sad excuse for remote desktop. Any REAL RD does not log out the server, unless you set it up to do that.

Weird, I dont have it. Sounds like either your PC or network is very slow.
But there are better remote desktops for PC<->PC than splashtop.

That severely cripples your options. Theres not a high demand for such a thing since the TF's are like the only tablets with real keyboard and mouse.
There are plenty of apps that give you remote keyboard control and can turn the tablet to a touchpad to control the PC, but I doubt that works with a real mouse.
I'm curious but do you get full desktop Internet Explorer or just the Metro version?
If you get both, can you please run a test for me? Does CSS3Please function identically in both? If it doesn't, it's because Metro IE doesn't support Flash on that site (it's not been whitelisted). Don't ask me why that site needs Flash. *shrugs*
(FYI, that site doesn't run identically in both IEs for full Windows 8)
yes it does .. both desktop IE and metro IE
It does, but the desktop mode is not true desktop. Its features and looks are like desktop but function is different. Flash is hard baked into it, there are no plugins allowed as far as I can see. Basically its the same browser with a different interface.
Your CSS3 sheet does not work in either browser.
I'm really not happy about the poor implementation of flash - your test CSS3 underscores the problem. It doesnt really perform like a desktop browser. One of my biggest hopes with the surface was to finally have a flash competent browser. But it doesn't appear to be the case. Looks like Surface Pro or a third party i5 or atom tablet with Windows 8 might be a better option for browsing.
The site appears to work OK in desktop IE10 on Windows RT, but I'm not certain how well it is supposed to work so I can't really compare.
As for the Flash thing, it's the only current ARM tablet that ships with Flash at all... and, while I'm working on a way to enable it on *any* site, for now I wrote a very simple script that automates the setting of the registry value for you, plus one that will set the permissions so that you don't have to run as Admin in order to change the value.

I've found it to be possible to edit the whitelist locally. Now I need to find a way to disable the whitelist at all. It should be doable as the whitelist is closely related to the Compatibility View (as I found out trough some brief research).
For now you can just add all your desired domains to the whitelist so you will get flash on all websites you want.
