Paranoid Android restore problem - Motorola Atrix 2

Earlier on today, I decided to root my ATRIX 2 and flash the Paranoid Android ROM on my phone. I backed up with Titanium and CWM Revovery. I knew it would be buggy. Later on I decided that I wanted to restore it back to ICS. I installed the thing to get into CWM Recovery (I can't for the life of me remember what it was called) Anyway, It wouldn't boot into CWM. So I thought that I'd just put up with it. But, my phone got stuck at the PA boot screen. I left it there for an hour and then decided to try and fix it. I searched and searched for hours, and I couldn't fix anything. So now, I have a phone that only goes into AP Fastboot when plugged into AC power, and when plugged into a PC it has a black screen with a white LED. I am worried, as I have only had this phone for a couple of days and I don't want to go spending more money just to get a new phone or fix mine.
What would be wrong with my phone and how could I fix it?

You shouldn't have tried to install another recovery. CM10, MagicMod, and PA have built in custom recoveries. That's a sure fire way to softbrick.
When in fastboot, does it show battery status as OK?

The problem was you flashed another recovery on top of PA. PA has a built in recovery so now the two recoveries are conflicting. The same thing happened to me. :/ I had to fxz back to ICS. Maybe there is another solution I don't know about for this problem, and maybe one of the senior members could help. But there is always the option of FXZing back. Hope you get it figured out.
Axis beat me to it.

Ouch.... Do you know anyone with an A2? Maybe they can charge the battery for you... The plus side is you have only soft bricked your device. If you can get your battery charged you can fxz back.

You need to get an external charger to charge your battery, then fxz. Its the only way to fix it.

That's possible, but more than likely they will decline. Worth a shot. Its best to have an external charger for these situations.
And if you by it now, you'll have it later.

Try amazon. I am sure they have them other places online. Search around and see what you come up with. Hope you get it worked out.

I'll look, but it could be a little bit harder, as I live in New Zealand, but I should find something.

I suppose, I could look on New Zealand sites, as it will be in my own currency and the shipping should be quite a bit cheaper.

anyone successfully hard unbricked *themselves* with JTAG, or this "Riff Box" ?
I have a hard bricked Skyrocket. I see that I can send it in for $50. But I'm all about solutions where I'm not paying someone else, and I actually fix it myself. I learn something, and if I ever make the mistake again, I can fix it again. Not just that, but it can help other people.
I did some Googling and searching with XDA forums, but I haven't seen anyone who has been able to fix their hard brick other than sending it in for repair.
I did manage to find this result in Google:
http://www.jtagbox.com/2012/03/page/2/
It seems to be for something called a RIFF Box. It appears to be some sort of USB based JTAG solution, and they also appear to have a working flash for the Skyrocket.
Here is some more info on the RIFF Box:
http://www.unlockforum.com/showthre...-How-to-set-up-RIFF-Box-!?p=145560#post145560
It *seems* legitimate, but I need to do some more digging. Has anyone tried it? Downside is that it's ~$150
This guy who is the only person that I can find in the US unbricking the Skyrocket is *clearly* using the Riff Box in his video, saying he is the "first" to do this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AkJQAbwZjRk&t=1m50s
Here is the link to order a Riff Box, $150 + shipping, but I'm pretty sure it's international
I went through 4 skyrockets already. I'm on my 5th one. The first hard bricked was when I accidentally checked repartition in Odin. Second I accidently deleted the efs folder. Third I forgot the letter d in adb for cwr. Fourth it just stop working. ATT replaced all of them without any real hassles. I advise you to go to att and just blame on the OTAs. Tell them that you were trying to update it then it failed during the update. Consequently your phone stopped working.

It's not that at all. All the bricks were careless mistakes. The first brick was less than 12 hours into receiving the skyrocket. This was dated back into less than a week when the skyrocket was launched. I push my skyrocket to the limit. While on gingerbread I benchmarked on Antutu with 76xx score. Yeah I know benchmarks are just figures. Hell I'm just a guy who don't like limits. Lol

[Q] Well... I've done it... Hard Bricked my phone...

Yea I know, make fun of me. Tonight I was trying to install CM 9.0 for my i727.
I already had Clockwork and Odin installed, everything was working 100%
I decided to follow TeamChopsticks guide to get there.
Unfortunately CM was not installing after I did the "Format /system (mounts and storage->format /system)" step and I decided to take matters into my own hands.
I went into Odin hoping to just flash CM. I then saw that the only option was "PIT" and naive, stupid, tired me decided to do it.
I mean what could go wrong. I had titanium backup and everything.
Turns out I probably reformatted my internal mem to something my i727 can not use. Yay...
Now my phone won't go into download mode, it wont boot, actually it wont do anything.
I've spent the last 3 hours reading online on what to do. To my avail I found nothing. (I found QPST but it won't let me add "COM4" which my phone is on, so it's useless)
My phone is recognized by the computer as "QHSUSB_DLOAD" and Odin used to have it in COM4.
I really don't want to send my phone anywhere, I've had it since Christmas so it's not the newest, and upgrading to a SGSIII would be an option.
What should I do? What CAN I do?
Hopeless college guy here. =/

The guys are right, im afraid. Back in my newish days (heck i still am new) something similiar happened to me. Im on Rogers in Canada, and I told them it happened while upgrading through kies. They shipped me a refurbished model for 35 bucks, so hopefully ATT is as benevolent.
FYI this one had a faulty usb port and they were out of refurbs, so they just sent me a brand new one (second replacement). So follow your dreams, I guess. : D

how did I brick my phone??

Updated the phone to the latest PA 10/15 build, flashed SU then gapps. After letting everything settled in, boot into recovery and flashed IX kernel 6.3.6 like I always do after every PA updates, but this time my phone won't boot at all, wont even boot into download mode. Stays on the black screen, won't even vibrate. I tried taking off the battery and plugging it in on the computer and outlet. Nothing works. Its hard-bricked. I sure don't have the money to sent it over for JTAG since I don't get paid till next week plus this is my work phone. WHAT TO DO? WHAT TO DO?

Try taking out the battery and plugging it in and putting the battery back in.

I honestly don't know. Before I flashed the PA 10/15 build I normally wipe cache, dalvik, format/system then flash the rom/su/gapps then reboot. After that I just installed InstigatorX kernel, rebooted then went on to a blank screen, never to turn on again no matter what I do.
I have never experienced this on the previous PA build with instigator X not saying its new builds fault, but thats honestly what I did.
I've had my faults of flashing roms on wrong devices before, but I greatly learned from that. So don't think I flashed the wrong kernel since I only have one kernel saved up on my computer and saved on on my device sd card.
Had your phone been acting funny beforehand? Seems like you did everything right, and others are running the 10/15 PA build just fine. You might have had one of those wonderful fluke bricks...

Is there a counter for that? Fix? or just JTAG is the only solution?
If you're hard-bricked, JTAG or warranty are the only ways out.

Never experienced anything unusual and I know I did things right. Only weird funny things that happen to my phone is a few screen flickers on the previous build and I used build.prop to smooth those out. And on PA 2.15 my phone will occasionally randomly shutdown, but gets back on within seconds. I never OC btw. Always keep on stock frequency.
Can I lie to Samsung about the device not being rooted?

They can't investigate anything if it doesn't turn on

I pretty much told them I did the ICS update then my phone won't turn on from there. And that I barely bought the phone from Craigslist yesterday.
They believed it just a little scared if they found out that my phone is rooted and starts to charge me restocking fee or whatever they do.
This what they told me
Arwyn: Please hold while check the warranty details.
Visitor: ok
Arwyn: I'm sorry for the delay. I'll be right with you.
Arwyn: Thank you for holding.
Arwyn: I see that device is in warranty till March 5th, 2013.
Visitor: awesome
EDIT: This Arwyn Samsung tech support really something
Arwyn: Are you using the same charger and the battery that came with the device?
Visitor: yes its all oem
Arwyn: Do you see any error message on the device?
Visitor: none
Visitor: Like I said the phone does not turn on at all
Visitor: soft keys don't even light up
Visitor: no vibrations, no boot screen, no boot animations or anything
Arwyn: What do you see on the device screen?
OK NOW THEY ARE TELLING ME TO SEND MY DEVICE FOR SERVICE AND REPAIRS COVERED BY WARRANTY. IS THIS A GOOD IDEA TO DO? SINCE MY PHONE IS COMPLETELY ROOTED, HAS A ROM AND CUSTOM KERNEL. LET ME KNOW PLEASE BECAUSE THIS ARWYN PERSON SAID THEY ARE GOING TO DIAGNOSE WHAT CAUSED IT.
I don't think its a huge deal. Just send it in.

Are they asking you to send it in without issuing you out a replacement device or to send it in once you receive a replacement device? If its the first option it doesn't sound like a good idea to me. Sounds like they might actually check it out.

Samsung never gives you a replacement device. They will just flash a new firmware to it. If they can't they'll give you a new phone. I'd do it if I where you.

1. Stop shouting.
2. Just do it. Worst thing that can happen is they say no. That said, if they can't get the phone to boot, they'll just send a refurb. If they can get it into download mode, they'll just flash the new firmware and wipe your tracks. Even if they do somehow see that it was rooted (i.e., they boot it into the OS), they'll just tell you that the warranty is void, and the repairs will cost X if you choose to go ahead with them.
Well I sent it in this morning and see whats going to happen from here and then. Hopefully it all goes smoothly.

HELP PLEASE! Kernel Problems

I recently flashed a new CM10 kernel called LeanKernel. At least I tried to, it did not install all the way and after I rebooted my phone did not turn on did not respond to anything. If anyone can help me that would be great. I am not to sure whether to call this a soft or a hard brick. I can't get to CWM and/or download mode. Plugging it in to my computer doesn't help it spams my computer with a format message. I don't know what to do and I appreciate any help anyone can give me.
I also forgot to say that I tried to charge it but nothing shows up on screen i dont know if it even charges. But my battery was at 65% before me phone stopped booting.
Thanks in advance.
You flashed a kernel that was not for your phone. It's brick city. Read and understand what you're doing before flashing things.

Thanks for the reply. I accidentally flashed the wrong kernel on my computer. I feel pretty dumb doing that too. I was just hoping a possible way to fix but I think that's not really possible.

If it's hard-bricked (it is), they'll either force it into download mode and restore to stock from there, or just mail you a refurb. They'll never know.
Thanks for the replies

Thanks for the replies. Yeah i guess it makes sense to do that, but I talked to AT&T and I might have the chance to upgrade without having to pay for the early termination. I think I might pre-order the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. I don't know yet. What do you guys think, fix this phone or upgrade!

Either way, why not send it in for warranty repair/replacement? I've got the Note 2 on pre-order and am keeping my Skyrocket, because the Note 2 is an entirely different beast.
If you're going to keep the Skyrocket (whether you get the Note 2 or not), why not warranty it? If you're going to sell the Skyrocket, you'd probably want to make sure it works before you put it on eBay, right? If you're going to throw your $600, one-year-old Skyrocket in the trash without even trying to save it, go ahead and mail it to me instead! lol

I wouldn't ever throw something like that away. Especially since I know that its hard bricked, but nothing is wrong with the hardware. I will probably go through with the warranty, and use my old crappy iPhone :crying: until my Note II comes if I get it.

Random oddness

Okay, so tell me how this happened. I had been working on my SII, flashed a Tmobile Rom earlier and had left the phone sitting next to my daily driver (Pantech Flex) on the desk while I ran a few errands. I came back 30 minutes later and the SII had somehow managed to have the exact same non-stock wallpaper image on the screen as the Pantech. No one else but the dog around. My first thought was some kind of funky NFC stuff going on between the two phones ... Android sex or something. Things that make ya go hmm.

Did you restore from your Google account? If so, it restored your wall you had linked to your account from the other phone. Mystery solved

The funky android sex story sounded better. But your story is more believable:thumbup:

I don't know, Andy's a dude, and dude on dude just doesn't sound appealing to me... Not that there's anything wrong with that

Ha! Yeah I wore gloves when I picked em up. Poor Pantech, it'll probably never be the same. Not that there's anything wrong with it. Haha! Also, I hadn't signed into Google yet, no syncing going on. I've been testing radios (upload/download speeds shooting for proper 4G loads) and not bothering with Google bidness. I'll leave em alone tonight and see if it happens again. Maybe light a candle and put on some Lionel Richie. Ya know, in order to replicate the mysteriousness. All in the name of gizmo science.
Hahaha, this is great! Do you think they can reproduce? Maybe you'll get a brand new phone in a couple of months.(?)
Brought to you by time and relative dimensions in space.
(9 months later) you hear your phone screaming in another room and you ealk in there and you see the pantech give birth to a hybrid Samtech with super high specs. Lol
