I'm using my Skyrocket as a media player. I was wondering how to remove the "No SIM" notification and how to hide the "Wifi Connected" notification from the notifications. They are always there and I can not remove them. I'm running the leaked Touchwiz Jelly Bean ROM with root access. I just need to know what files to modify to remove those two notifications. Thanks!
gs2usr's mods will get you the wifi noti.

toyes made a custom rom that is only used for media playing called Clear Media, it might suit ur needs idk as i never tried it, link in the 1stop sticky
Good thinking vincom. I used my skyrocket as a media and GPS device. However, I make it ready as a backup phone. Another point, I connect my phone to a screen, so I need to stick with touchwiz (as long as I know). Therefore, toyes's ROM is not suitable for me.
I froze the phone app and I get rid of "NO SIM" notification but no luck with "WiFi connected" notification.
BTW, I'm using your SL-TW ROM.

Hey everyone
i'm pretty new to the whole nexus s scene, as i've had this device for about a week now. I've rooted my phone successfully and i'm running MIUI's latest ROM..1.8.5 i believe. Now for the problem..
For some odd reason I'm unable to connect to my 3G network at all (yes, data is enabled in the settings, and set to 3g prefered/2g/only 3g..still nothing). Usually there'd be that green "3G" on top bar of my screen, but it doesn't show up. Now i rely on wifi to go online, which isnt a problem...but it feels like my money's being cheated if i dont use my data in occasional situations. I've tried flashing it again and again, but no results. I've flashed my phone to the Oxygen ROM, and the little 3G icon appeared, indicating that data is enabled (i forgot to actually check if it worked LOL). I haven't found anyone else experiencing this problem with MIUI, but i've found threads on them having some sort of difficulty with their data. If anyone could help me out, or direct me to a thread that has a possible solution, i would really appreciate it ~ thank you in advance.
Also, I'm on Fido.....if that helps.
I'm on the latest miui and I don't have that issue try toggling the airline mode to see if it will kick it in. If not really download the Tom and do a clean install see if that works.

hey, i've tried toggling the airline and it doesn't help. also, what do you mean by "the Tom"?
What happens when you try to connect with just 3G (what type of error do you receive)? Miui's stock 3G icon is white
Also, I think the other gentleman meant to spell ROM

He meant rom, auto correct changes the word rom, I think you need to wipe and reflash the rom.
hey, i've just tried reflashing the rom...and still no 3g ): !
also, when i enable data, and set it to 3g..there's no error. there's simply no "3g" icon on the top, and i can't connect.
Did u try manually inputting your apn? Sometimes providers don't push the settings to you
what exactly would i put in for my apn? sorry, total noob here :/
Go to menu>settings>system>mobile network setting>access point names. Do u have an entry there? You should. If not, you need to check with your network provider for the settings.
i've just tried putting in the APN settings (copied the stuff from the APN settings when 3g works on the oxygen ROM). is there anything else i havent filled in and should? cuz....it still doesnt work
Not really. Create it, fill it, save it, choose it and restart. Should work, it always did for me
How's the battery life on that rom
Seems ok to me. 3g uses alot of juice since the service is crappy in my country. Otherwise, best rom I tried
dang :/ still nothing... i've noticed something though. when im on my oxygen rom and search for networks..the option "Fido" pops up. when im on MIUI, the option "Rogers Wierless" pops up in the place of "Fido" .___." that may have something to do with it...
Same problem here on desire s.
When I try to change the apn setting I get a force close.
Cheers, Cor
On the ICS leak, it still has the entitlement check for hotspot feature
Normally, you would freeze or delete the tethering manager apk in titanium, or use MYSQLite app to disable the entitlement check in the settings apk...but neither of those things are present in the ICS leak
Anybody know how to do this?
You got me excited for a moment. It looked like a how to guide.

lol, yes it sort of does. Sorry.
This should be easy, probably just a change in the filename for the manager apk
I tried freezing the wifi sharing manager and the TetheringProvision, but it either crashed the settings apk or didnt have an effect.
Foxfi?

I got the hotspot working by installing the 14 Toggle Quick Panel mod and then enabling/disabling using the Wifi Hotspot toggle. Flashed the zip here http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...3&postcount=82 in CWM.

There is still an apk present in the /system/app folder called tetheringmanager.apk, saw it when I was deodexing, maybe it just has a new name.
Nevermind, freezing it doesn't help the situation.

Hrm, strange....usually titanium picks up on this kind of thing.
I'm going to try the 14 panel someone suggested.
It seems to me that where before it used tetheringmanager.apk to check for the lack of provision if it was NOT available, something in the framework is now saying its not available unless tethering manager says so.

mobile hotspot worked for me
In the UltraCfg app i tried setting it to Tethering Always ON. It asked for a restart for the change to take effect, but it locked up my phone. After pulling the battery and starting up the phone i tried to turn on the mobile hotspot. While it was trying to verify the tethering plan the blue hot spot symbol came on, so i just hit cancel. I was able to connect a device with no problems. USB tethering worked the same way, just cancel when it tried to do its verification. I'm currently tethering right now.

No need to hit cancel. Just hit home. This absolutely works. I got wifi tethering for root users working too, but I like working with stock features.
Follow this guide, bottom of page 3. Even though UltraCfg already appears to have set tethering always on, you need to set it again. Reboot.

Hi all,
I have a verizon galaxy s3 and I flashed cyanogen mod 10 stable version (11/13) today. I tried navigation, and for some reason it just keeps saying searching gps.. and can't seem to locate it. I have also tried liquid jelly bean rom and the same thing happened. I am new to roms, so does turn by turn directions/navigation not work on roms for galaxy s3? the phone can pick up my location in google now for example (because it gives me weather for the correct location), but i can't seem to do navigation. Please let me know if there is a way to fix this.
Thanks!
In settings make sure you turn on all the stuff in location access and under applications clear data for maps.

hmm when i try to navigate somewhere, it still just gets stuck on "Searching for GPS..."

It should be something with the settings in GPS, I think it's the last option in the location settings and you should be turning on the option for "internal antenna"

Was wondering if anyone has experience using this to control their LTE. I assume by doing this there should be no long term issues switching between the settings?
I too would like to be able to toggle my LTE when I don't need it but remain on a TW stock ROM.
I've never tried this app but I doubt it works. "Phone info" app does work but it's annoying to use as there are a lot of steps. Works on ics tw and jb tw.

Unless Samsung changed Android's stock advanced radio info, then it should work fine. All it does is invoke what a dialer code does (*#*#4636#*#*). It doesn't work for all phones (manufacturers like to disable dialer code access).

That and the constant dialogue box popping up asking if you want to switch to global.
3 g is s more battery on my phone. You will laugh but it seems so. I would stay away from phone info unless you like Odin when you want to use 4g again. In my case the only time turning off 4g made a difference was in a fringe area. It is not a bionic or nexus. It has integrated 4g soc.
.
If on a ics rom you can use phone info that will take u to the menu someone already mentioned. Then click device info and check "cdma (auto prl)" to put the phone in 3g. To put it back into 4g goto "lte/cdma/evdo" from the same drop down menu.
If you are on a jellybean leak you use phone info to put the phone in 3g the same way. If you try and switch back to 4g with phone info nothing will happen. To get back into 4g you goto system settings-more settings-mobile networks-network mode and select cdma/lte/evdo.

I recently upgraded my Galaxy Tab2 from Android ICS 4.0.4 to JB 4.1.2.
I previously used Müller's WiFi Tether for Root Users (my device is CF-Auto-Root'ed); it was great.
Now after the 4.1.2 upgrade WiFi Tether for Root Users doesn't work anymore - it just never appears on other computers' list of visible Wi-Fi networks.
So I'm trying the built-in Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot function. I tap to turn it on; it says it has turned on .. then just a few seconds later it says "Turning off" and indeed it turns off. Can't use it.
How can I diagnose and fix this?
thanks,
Are you on the stock ROM?

hi MultipleMonomials. Yes, the stock 4.1.2 ROM which came out last week, plus CF-Auto-Root.
Another piece of information. I also cannot start USB Tethering. I tap to start, it says it's starting, and it instantly turns off, briefly showing "USB Tethering Error" in the top status bar.
thanks,
Maybe I'm just ignorant, but since when did the stock ROM have wifi tethering?
Try the app foxfi from Play Store.

As far as I can tell, Android 4.1 comes with USB and Wi-Fi tethering by default.
Settings, in the Wireless and networks area, More settings, "Tethering and portable hotspot".
Of course, some carriers disable it, but my device is carrier-neutral, pure stock ROM. Unless there is a flag the carriers can send to the phone saying to specifically disable that function? .. in which case I dearly hope that there is a hack or app for rooted phones to ignore that flag!
(I did try FoxFi, and several others; on this version of Android, all they seem to do is enable the built-in portable hotspot, which behaves just the same as when I do it manually in the Settings - it turns right off again).
anyone?
Thanks!
Either install or open Titanium Backup. Search for "tethering" and "hotspot". Do you get anything?

Got it to work with WiFi Tether for Root Users, 3.3pre-2 TrevE mod experimental

Hi, Titanium Backup (love it!) does not find any apps/apks for "tethering" or "hotspot".
There's a comment here suggesting that it's built-in, not an .apk.
Aha. I installed the 3.3pre-2 "TrevE" mod experimental version, and with a lot of playing around, found the following combination which works:
Device Profile: generic ICS/JB (wlan0)
Setup Method: Auto
Send Netd Max Client Cmd: On
WiFi-driver reload: On
WiFi-driver reload 2: On
(Not positive that the driver reloads are necessary, but without doubt the TrevE mod was required).
Maybe this experience will help explain what's going on, so that we can get easier solutions for others.
thanks,
