Smooth scrolling? - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi. I recently bought a 7.0 version. Ive rooted and flashed phones alot ( s2, s3 ect ect ) so I get the idea. My question is if i install a rom on my tablet will it make the scrolling abit smoother? Its a little jumpy. I hate apple but the scrolling on ipads is awesome. Any help is thankful please ?

Without knowing what exact tab, or what firmware you are on, it is hard to say. Jellybean is smoother than ICS. I know with the transition effect in touchwiz can look a little choppy by how fast it scrolls then rotates slowly at the end, if that makes sense. I think it has smoother animations than my rezound. Any who, just trying to help.

I have a galaxy tab 2 7.0 and i mean the browser scrolling more then anything. Also i have stock 4.0.3 as i just got it yesterday. I have lots of work stuff on it already and dont know what to use to back it all up with to root it.
Sent from my GT-P3110 using Tapatalk 2

If you have the 3110, you can upgrade to jellybean with an official ota. There are threads in development for this. Then you can use cf auto root that chain fire made. Also in development. Last, you can flash clockwork mod, also in development thread. At that point, you have upgraded to jellybean, and you browser will be more responsive. Unfortunately, sometimes you may have to factory reset after you upgrade the firmware. My advice would be to backup all of your important info on a PC beforehand. You could always just use a root+cwm zip now, back it up, restore back to stock, then follow my earlier advice, but that in my opinion is too much flashing for a noob. Just trying to show you how many options you have, not trying to make it more difficult. Good luck

Any chance of getting this on our phones? Its ICS only. Any way to modify it to work on GB?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk
i tried it on a friends gnexus and it wasnt that great, definitely not worth the work that it would take to get to get chrome on it. we will just have to wait till we get ics, and by then it might even be out of beta. what im saying is to just wait it out, its just not worth it
I agree. It seems **** a slightly nicer stock browser. I didn't even see the ability to change the user agent in the settings menu.

Looks like ICS will start being available March 1 if you believe the blogs....

Don't Update Your Phone to Stock UCLB3 Not Worth It! (Info Inside)

I've been working around with this Firmware for awhile. As much as I love Stock I just don't love the Stock At&t offers. Here's things I notice to be a problem: STOCK: UCLB3 (Not to be used as a Daily Driver) F*** You Samsung for this!
1. Facebook App - Scrolling comes Unresponsive, Laggy Scroll, Sometimes don't scroll at all.
2. Temple Run Game - Lags, Touchscreen unresponsive trying to do jumps and turns.
3. Instagram - Slight scrolling lag will occur.
4. Netflix - Scrolling can become Unresponsive, Scroll lag
5. Gallery - The most laggiest piece of **** Gallery I've ever seen on this phone. Quickpic solves this, but WTF!
I can make a whole list of daily apps, But just the newer apps that we may want we can't use for these reasons. Came to conclusion Firmware and Touchscreen Firmware is completely Boinked. I still lose Wireless connection leaving me to believe ULCB3 modem is boinked as well. UCKL2 modem gave full Wireless Bars and never dropped. I don't think Samsung will ever fix this...... I'm not here to complain, I'm here to give others an insight of what to expect using Stock UCLB3. And Stock UCLB3 is useless without Root!
For those who hate custom roms, Try finding a rom as close to stock to meet your needs that's all tweaked out and allows root, At&t and Samsung will never Deliver the goodies devs do here. Those worrying about Warranty issues rooting their phones. I returned my phone back to stock before sending my broken phone back, The flash count read 1 count but goes away with GTG Ultimate Unbrick. We don't have to worry about jigs and etc and erasing flash counts like the SGS 2. As long as you flash it back to stock, Superuser and all rooting will be gone.
As Close to Stock UCLB3 Roms I Recommend:
------------------------------------------------
SGH-I997 UCLB3 Rooted, Deodexed, Busybox, Zipaligned - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1508619
Vagabond ROM Stock UCLB3 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1506223
so since your having troubles its not worth it for others to upgrade ? who's to say its not just your phone that messing up
Touchscreen bug is there for everyone not just myself, I hear others on both At&t forums and Facebook complaining of touchscreen unresponsiveness, and Scroll lag. I wouldn't be shocked if they pull the update......It wasn't officially announced! Don't get me wrong The overall Scrolling on UCLB3 is fine, Scrolling isn't playing nice with these apps. There's absolutely nothing wrong with my phone. And a youtube video below that I made goes to show you just how the scrolling should be on this phone......But that rom is pretty dead. Trying Emancipation Rom
I had been on the leaked lb3 since it came out because i was just tired of flashing roms and just stuck with it. I flashed the deodexed version of lb3 a couple of nights ago and it is a hell of a lot better than the leak. Its snappier and more responsive. Its not just your phone. This firmware sucks. It's incomplete.

I'm sorry but I will never buy a Samsung again, this is awful. Do they even test it before release? I know the infuse is not a flagship phone but come on! We can't even get a solid version of GB which was released over a year ago! Wtf have you been doing all this time Samsung!?! Same goes as well for the SG1 .. or is it because you release a new verision of the same phone everyday!? Just give us vanilla GB .. I BET YOU THAT WORKS JUST FINE! ... how do you screw up a lockscreen? LMAO

i upgraded and can't root :| it stuck at #7
I can also confirm wifi is dead .. Pandora, iheart, slacker, YouTube will play for a while then randomly get a no Conn error .. this has also been tried on 2-3 networks ... I also today did a hard reset .. no problems fixed

My wife has unrooted UCLB3 on her Infuse (which replaced her SOD-plagued Captivate), and she hasn't had any complaints about it (aside from the phone being "too big")
Granted, she doesn't even have a data plan, and only uses wifi for Internet, so maybe that might play into it. ?
Seen update, the day after i loaded Z-TR. Like any custom rom you can run into lil issues however ZEUS seems to me to run FAR better than the crap AT&T has put togather not 1 time but 3 times in a row!!!
MY Thanks go out to DMAN and the collective for their hard work!
i thought hdmi out didnt work with uclb3 either.
im so tired of going back and forth, i just want my phone to run smoothly. I had zeus, but i kept getting the SOD now I just upgraded to this and now my screen is unresponsive I can't wait for an upgrade

A JB ROM that runs as fast as ICS?

Like the title says I am looking for a JB ROM that runs as fast and smooth as most ICS ROMs do...I love the features of JB but every ROM I have tried seems to run so sluggish and it annoys me to not be able to use my phone...I switch back to ICS and like that it is fast but end up missing the JB features especially the ones in CM10 any suggestions or suggestions on how to get JB to not run so sluggish and constantly freezing or taking so long to load things?

Yeah, ur nexus S is a little older than our S 4G so that could cause some of ur lag.
Does it lag even if a clean install with no added apps? By clean I mean formating everything & cleaning up ur SD card. I only ask since many have written that lots of old files on SD cards from GB & ICS apps that are restored do not mix.
So get bored with some time & do a clean install and add each app from the market instead of TB or other restored areas. See if it matters.
If not then its just that the Nexus S is just about reached it limit with ICS for smoothness for U.
Good luck

Disable Google now and extra crap you don't need.
Try to troubleshoot your problem a bit with software such as betterbatterystats. That will at least give you a hint.

Yeah, its just ur phone processor is slow for JB. The only solution is to run bare minimum apps so it won't clog the memory. But then what's the point of having a fancy phone.
I has a nexus S4G and I have minimal apps with slim bean. It runs great but I have to keep the ROM & phone in shape or else it will lag & crash. That and I didn't even install Google now or other JB features. So perhaps try that set up.
But its either stick with GB, ICS or minimal JB
or
get a new phone, so its a cycle that will never end. Heck I ran my poor little HTC Hero to the brink with all the new ROMs back then. Now its just a tired old media player with some games for my daughter & her friends.
good luck bro

Yea I will be getting a nexus 4 if I can ever catch the thing in stock. But until then I am still stuck with this poor old thing which has been good to me. I was just trying to see if it was something I could do to run JB and it still be usable. I have been running it most of the day and while slower than ICS it is has not been horrible...that being said tomorrow I will probably go back to ICS.

Dropdown notification bar lag on jb

So the one thing I loved about the gs3 was the fact that the dropdown was perfect...60fps no matter what was going on..always perfect. Well of course Samsung had to absolutely ruin that with jb and it's now like half the framerate than ics was, and it's slow and clunky and downright bad compared to ics. Are there any jb roms out there running the ics dropdown or a modified version? I'm pretty sure that whole fading background as it comes down is what lags it out.
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S3 using Tapatalk 2
nobody, huh?
they seriously took 2 steps forward and like 4 backwards with this update. don't understand how this doesn't bug anyone else. the notif dropdown on the lockscreen lags to all hell and just isn't smooth at all. it's worse on lockscreen than it is when you're unlocked, but it's still choppy.
Looks pretty damn smooth to me...

im glad other people do notice it. It's nothing like it was on ics. i actually went and flashed cm10 then put on a touchwiz skin just so it looks stock but is quicker. cm10 isn't even smooth but it's better than touchwiz.
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S3 using Tapatalk 2
it's always laggy for me after first unlocking the screen. On synergy 169 with lean kernel 1.6
I've flashed various TW ROMs (Hyperdrive, CleanROM, and BoneStock) - all of them exhibit the same stutter with pulling down the Notification drawer. I'm also using Stock Kernal and the stutter exists regardless if I'm running at 1.5ghz Max (Performance/Noop).
I have been tempted to flash over to an AOSP ROM with a custom kemal. Can anyone comment if that'll fix the issue?

Today: stock vs custom?

Hi everyone, I'm a newcomer to the note 10.1 and so far it has been great!
However owning a nexus S has made me quite the flashaholic.
So I decided to root my note, of course, but I am still debating on whether custom roms/kernels are worth it. I've looked around and many threads state that stock rom is the most stable, however they go back to 2012.
So my question is : Is it better to keep stock nowadays or is it worth it to go custom ( to get functionalities like multi - tasking for all apps , potential for better performance and battery life, etc... )? What do you think?

I've been wondering the same thing. I'm quite happy with stock so far (quite a departure from my Asus stock ROM, which were useless), and would definitely stick with tw-based ROMs.

Ha, I'm tempted by the Hyperdrive ROM myself.
Using gloryrom with no problems
I tried Revolution and it was alright. Omega was really good but not updated frequently enough for me. I love Hyperdrive paired with his Zeus kernel and am just hoping it continues to get regular updates.
While stock is certainly the most stable, I always like to "clean house" every so often and try a new ROM. The bloat of the stock really is unbelievable and it's amazing how much speed can be squeezed out when scrapping all the parts that I don't really need. I also like that it forces me to look at alternatives that are often better than the stock Samsung applications. Ie, for serious note taking I tend to use lecture notes while I'll default to Quill for anything quick that I want synced automatically between devices ala S-Note style. It also means that I'm not tied to trying to install S-Note on any future devices that are not Samsung.
Still, it's really personal preference and how much time and energy you want to put into it. The developers out there really have put a lot of time and attention into the custom ROMs and regardless of my own preference, they should all be applauded for their hard work.

I think if you have a Nandroid backup you can try custom roms .
But not a great difference from stock .
jje
In my opinion sticking to stock ROM or any custom one depending on the stock is much better to have the multi window functionality and better Spen integration for gestures and so .... and for having multi window on stock ROM for all apps U just have to root and install multiwindow from the app store
Personally I stick with stock rooted. This is one device where the stock rom really doesn't need to be improved.
Cosmetic theming can be achieved through a third party launcher without sacrificing function....
Of course there's always those who try to improve , but that's because this is a developement forum....
