This is probably the second dumb post for the evening but i am just curious why the phone app is sitting in my applications list as my galaxy note 10.1 is the wifi only model? Just curious.
Thanks
A firmware for the 3G model ???
jje
or wifi VOIP calling for apps like Skype, etc.
I have voice and groove IP installed and running on my tab, thus the phone app is a must for me.

Thanks for the replies, I didn't think of voip makes Sence though. I assume it wouldn't be 3g model firmware as I just bought it from Harvey Norman.
Thanks

The 3110 model is the one that has a GSM chip?

I have p3110 and it is only WiFi so, p3100 should have 3G.
if you want to make a phone call
buy the p3100 version.
it come with 3G like galaxy tab 7+
Groove ip and a Google voice account SHOULD achieve this.
I was able to make calls with my Nook and Transformer with this two.
Neither one have 3G capability.
Wifi connection needed.

I've looked all over and not found a 3G version for sale. I thought I had on eBay, ordered it, and got a second GT-P3113.
Can someone PM me where to find the 3G version?
I am loving my Note 10.1 so far. I use an Att S3 daily and was wondering if there is any way for the two to hook up maybe to send texts from my S3 using the Note.
I paired them using bluetooth and so far as I can see, it does not do a whole lot. I have a voice and data SIM in my S3 and a Data SIM in the Note 10.1. I have been switching SIM's back and forth, but there has got to be a way to get them to work togther?
I kind of remember hearing about a companion app from Samsung. I have yet to find anything though. Any ideas?

I've heard an app called "Tablet Talk" works very well for syncing and sending texts over bluetooth or wifi.
I don't know exactly what it does but have you proved the Allshare Cast app?

Has anyone been able to get this to work as a phone? I got the original tab to do it but you had to change the modem to 2g mode and that made the internet worthless. Wondering if we can get it to work on 3G with phone.
What model is your tab?

I use mine as the phone in some cases and I don't have to change the modem to 2g. I have a p6200 version with stock ics and it works great without changing anything
Volvo for life, boxer for fun.
Volvo XC90 Executive D5 & Subaru Forester
I'm guessing the op has either got a wifi only model, or a data only sim inserted, I can't imagine any other reason why he would have difficulties using the calling feature
Im from the Kindel FIre HD forum and I was trying to do some research but I have seen so many conflicting threads. IS the P6200 able to make gsm calls in the US? Also is this the only one that does? I saw the 10.1 is capable but its to big for a phone in my opinion
Yes and yes, GT-P6200 has native telephony, just like a 'real' cell phone, Note 10.1 GT-8000, does as well, as does Tab 2 10.1
And finally Tab 2 7.0 GT-P3100, and Tab 7.7 GT-P6800
If you're brave, you could also try Nexus 7 with 3g and an VOIP app like Groove IP
Also stay tuned to MWC, Galaxy Note 8.0
Who says a cell phone has to be a certain size? Psh.
As requested, I have created a poll. Maybe you guys could put some comments on the pros and cons of doing that (both indoors and outdoors) and recommend a device? Thanks.
I use my note pro as a phone all the time. Indoors, outdoors, as long as I can get a t mobile or at&t signal I'm good to go. My best advice is to use a bluetooth headset.
As I mentioned in your other thread:
A number of times.
I have a Bluetooth earpiece, so it's no hassle. Easier than a land line, since I can put the tab on the table and just walk all over the living room whilst calling with my hands free.
Slamming the horn isn't quite as satisfying, though.
How do you use it as a phone? I dont see a dialer on my at&t model.

That's AT&T's doing. Use a custom dialer or create a shortcut with a 3rd party launcher.
Samsung 12.2 Note as a phone
P905 required, I think? P900 wifi only?
