Hi everyone,
I've recently bought samsung galaxy ace 2 phone. And my question is regarding the usb storage and sd card storage. I searched the forum, but couldn't find solution to my problem.
In Galaxy Ace 2, GT-I8160, there are 3 kinds of storage being shown in the phone settings.
1. SD Card (the external sd card, which I've myself inserted in the phone and it is of 8GB)
2. USB Storage which is 1.2GB (which was built in storage I guess)
3. System Storage (which is also of about 1.1GB)
We know in android there are some apps which can be moved to SD Card, not all.
In other phones like my previous phone was HTC, in that phone when I moved an app to SD Card, it was moved to external SD card properly. But in samsung galaxy ace 2, whenever I move any app to SD card, it is moved to the usb storage, and not to the external sd card. And we know the usb storage of this phone is only 1.2GB. I want my apps (which are movable) to be moved to external sd card. What I've noticed, this phone is recognizing the usb storage as sd card.
Even if you go to settings - apps - Sd card, it'll show you the USB storage of 1.2GB, not the storage of my actual external SD card (8GB)
Why is this so? Why is this phone recognizing the usb storage as sd card storage. Why this phone is not recognizing my external sd card as the sd card storage?
Your response will be highly appreciated
Regards,
Omer.
I have the same problem and I just don't know which is which so basically I can't transfer anything.
Do you have the same phone? Samsung Galaxy Ace 2?
I think this is how it works may be. It is treating the USB storage as SD Card and ignoring the external SD card.
This may only be the case with samsung phones, because in HTC, the external sd card was considered as sd card and apps were moved to it.
Anyways I've found the following link regarding this issue, I won't try the solution mentioned in this link, coz it required root and I do not want to root my phone

Try to install samsung kies then connect phone with usb debug on. Troubleshoot to reinstall your usb driver. If this dont work uninstall samsung usb driver at device manager abd connect phone and wait for the computer to make update. Restart pc after process. Ty
If you have issue with full of memory, you can swap memory, http://goo.gl/VnCnYN Just flash with cwm

THIS IS A SHORT AND EASY METHOD.

Hello,
I have used the swapsd beta app to swap my internal sd card with the external sd card on my Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 and now I am getting errors that memory space is not enough.
I’ve tried the default option to swap it back and it is not working.
When I go to view my files I get the error message ‘No SD card inserted’.
I can’t see the external memory nor the phone memory anymore when I plug my phone to my PC.
Please note that my phone is rooted.
Can someone send me the instructions to set it back to default please?
Thanks,
Krjnrj.
Hi.
So I have a SanDisk Extreme Plus 64gb in my tablet and every time I move a file (not an APP, but files - pics, music, etc.) from the internal memory to it, I have to "unmount" and "mount" it back in order for the tablet to recognize the file's new location. It refreshes correctly when I copy or move files from PC, but not internally.
Example:
1. Download a pic from web - goes to internal "Downloads" folder - open Gallery app - it's there.
2. Move the pic to the root or any folder on the External SD using ES File Explorer (or any other file manager) - open Gallery app - it's NOT there.
3. Hit "Refresh" within the Gallery app - still NOT there.
4. Go to Storage - unmount external SD - mount it back - open Gallery app - VOILA, it's there!
Any ideas?

What's the microSD formatted as? I'd reformat the card as FAT32 with MiniTool Partition Wizard on Windows or Gparted on Linux. EXFAT isn't supported on the Stock ROM.
To make certain there are no other microSD issues, I'd also, if you are root, install the "KitKat SD Card Full Access" XPOSED module. This will make sure the changes in SD Card write permissions introduced in KitKat will not affect you.
I have my 64gb formatted as ntfs and its working fine. You cannot use a 64gb exfat card as default android doesnt support it.
Using a 64GB exFat formatted sd card on my shield right now...

exFat is fully supported by Shield Devices. It has been since the beginning as I know. My 64gb SD is in exFat right now.
But then again, maybe THAT'S why I'm having this issue...
Strange, because the tablet formatted the card to exFat by default. I inserted the SD and formatted it internally using stock Storage function.

Hi, the Dropbox app won't allow to select a folder on your external sd card to be synched, moving the app does not work and dropsync does not allow selecting folders/files from external sd card.
Any ideas? Android 442, Samsung galaxy s5, root.
Thanks
Happy Holidays to all.
I would like to change the default storage location from Internal storage to SD card. I have a few questions , wrt to this change :
1. Does the apps move from internal to SD or does the two storages join ?
2. I tried the change from internal to SD and one example of the result using a Q SEE camera app is as follows. The app was available/visible and could be launched but the "device" - NVR was not appearing nor the cameras that were configured . When I reverted back to Internal storage , the cameras were accessible again .
Point 2 suggests that details are not transferred or a copy of the app was installed on the SD card but not the configuration.
Some insight wrt to the approach would be appreciated
