On my default stock ICS one x on ATT, the stock browser had flash enabled and I really like having that. Now that I'm on CM10, their stock browser doesn't seem to have flash and i also use chrome as my main browser (flashless). Is there any way to get a flash browser, or better yet, flash on the chrome browser?
Also as a side note, are ad blockers really necessary when browsing on phones? and if you guys think so, then whats the best adblocker to get?
I use adaway and did you toggle flash on in your browser settings:

I use Dolphin Browser however I really like the stock Browser since to me it feels snappier than Dolphin.
The only reason I keep using Dolphin is the smart way it allows me to switch tabs by swiping in the direction of the next tab. Is this something already implemented in any of the custom ROMs? Would it be possible to implement a similar mechanism on the stock browser?
Thanks for your replies.
Nope, this is not currently implemented.... in the CyanogenMod at least and I have not used any other custom ROM. That is a great feature of the Dolphin browser and hopefully the stock browser will one day "borrow" it.

Yeah definitely - I really don't use gestures that much so tab-switching is the Only thing that keeps me going back to Dolphin...
I downloaded dolphin browser HD from the market last night to give it a try. I wanted to see if it would make the browsing even smoother and faster than it already is on frf91, or run flash better or something. I don't notice anything different. I understand that it has a lot of great features like gestures, tabs, add ons that the regular browser doesn't. But as far as just the performance of page loading or scrolling or anything, do you guys see any difference? What do you like about it?
Lol you answered it in your own post.. It's about the extra features it has
Right I was just wondering if people saw a performance increase in certain types of pages or something. Or if anyone was noticing speed increases.
I don't see any improvements whatsoever with speed. For Dolphin, I have a bunch of gestures set up that makes my lift a lot easier by having a shortcut to "select text".
I guess the only other thing that helps is the convenient access to wipe history and cache. You can also set it to private browsing mode so it never remembers history.
I like being able to exit/close the browser
I have noticed a few features that make Dolphin browser great.
First is the UAs (user agent settings) can be set to desktop client always. I hate going to about:debug every single time on the N1 stock browser. The MT3GS has a stock browser with UAs options in the stock settings. Not having that, after already having it in a stock browser is just annoying.
Downloading is much more efficient with Dolphin for me. I have been able to get everything posted on xda through rapidshare and others. If I am about to download something on my computer, I chrome to phone the link, and use dolphin to download it and astro to move it to the root.
Text clarity is much better on Dolphin. This was especially noticeable when reading text sites, like the news.
The flash player is on Demand, which is annoying when your first testing it out, but I have grown to love that feature. Especially when a lot of sites are fattened up with flash advertisements and useless widgets all over the place. News sites are the worst of all. Even when your in an EDGE only zone a news story should load fine, but an animated advertisement loading in the middle of the page will slow you down.
Downside. I can't seem to establish a secure connection when attempting to connect to a website using verisign to verify the secure connection. I don't know if it is the secure connection that isn't working or the verification? I emailed Dolphin, maybe they will tell me.
I use Dolphin primarily, but the great thing about Android is that you can run both of them, or either of them whenever you please. Getting the best of both worlds.
What I like the most is the simple refresh and stop button next to the address bar
I just wish it had a better theme...the theme tries to be too flashy and the additional themes are equally as gaudy...a simple stock browser theme (same tabs and buttons and whatnot but with the stock android theme styling) would be great...oh well.
Just so I know, dolphin browser uses the default webkit browser core, correct? And it just basically is like the default browser with different settings, UI, and "skin" overtop of the default browser.

Only for downloading files that Dolphin Browser seems to not want to download...
Skyfire 2.1 has improved alot. Its fast, the multi touch is better than it was with 2.0, and its flash player works much better than before. I use this when browsing casually (not logging in anywhere.) Love to watch worldstarhiphop videos with it cause flash 10.1 performance sucks on that site.

i use xscope. although i like that dolphin has ability to sync bookmarks
Nope, stopped using Dolphin HD for a couple reasons:
1) It has tabs, which is awesome, but it's a little too complicated to reach them compared to the old dolphin. I liked being able to swipe down to bring down the bar.
2) It's buggy as hell. I've uninstalled and reinstalled it about three times now. Sometimes it doesn't register my clicks, sometimes it brings about the crazy screen problem, and sometimes it just doesn't try to load my pages.
I just wish the stock android browser had tabs implemented.
Xscope has 0 bugs and its fast
The ability for fullscreen mode. That's most important to me as I don't want the notification bar to waste space and to prevent further lcd screen burn in for my N1.
Although that feature is broken in the recent version but a fix is coming.

Fast yes. Zero bugs? No... it doesn't do text reflow on XDA forums properly vs. Dolphin.

I do. Downloaded X-Scope and Dolphin the same day. There was something Dolphin did that I did not like, but can't remember what it was. But it was often enough it annoyed me. Never had an issue with X-Scope
Love xscope lite. Looks great, great features. many people don't know this but you can set up Flash to run automatically vs. "on demand"
I wasn't sure if all the browser improvements on 2.2 were just for the stock browser but doesn't seem anyone has noticed a difference in speed between stock and alternatives.

Not sure what you mean by text reflow, but I set it to "wide" in one of the settings and it made the xda forums look exactly the same as dolphin/stock browser.
As we all know, something about the deodex-ing process kills the stock browser on the official gingerbread release (and previous leaks too).
yes, some say the stock browser sucks. I love opera mobile but the stupid thing lose ALL tabs when i switch to another app. completely lose track of what I was looking at. stock browser doesnt.
Dolphin is nice but isnt as smooth as stock browser due to GPU acceleration for stock browser.
so, can some one upload a CWM zip or some way to install/replace the browser.
edited out dropbox link... Fixed in other threads

damn, i've been trying to work this out with a few others but so far no luck. I cant even install it (removed existing apk in /system/app, place this in there. permission fixed. install failed).
others install but get FC
probably a framework related issue
thanks though.

I have the Galaxy s3 with Verizon 4.1.1.
I have Google Chrome and dolphin browsers installed. Every time I launch an activity that calls for a browser I get the selection screen asking me to choose which default app to use. I have tried selecting dolphin as the default Always, and I have tried selecting chrome as default always, but no matter what I choose I can click the same link again and it will ask me again which browser to use. I tried uninstalling both browsers and the system let me choose the stock browser always and remembered it as default. When I put the other browsers back on, I have to choose every time again. This also goes for other default app selections. I've had 4.1.1 since Christmas and I still select default apps multiple times a day.
Help please!

If you are stock with root, just use either dolphin or chrome, but not both. Then delete the browser apk from system/app, that way only one browser is on your phone and you won't have the nag.

I use dolphin because it supports flash, and I use chrome because I prefer the UI. Besides, getting rid of only one still forces the nag default app screen between the stock browser and the remaining browser. I would have to get rid of both.
I am not rooted.
Is this behavior normal? I don't want to wipe the phone but I will if I'm the only one having this sort of problem. Does default app selection stick for other people, even when selecting a third party app?
So I've tried out Chrome, and I didn't care much for that browser. Text had issues and options were limited. I've also tried Firefox. Also seems to have text issues. I've been using Dolphin since I've moved on from ICS on other phones. It's been a good browser, but been looking for something better. At the moment I'm trying out UC Browser. So far I'm liking it.
What are you guys running? And what do you like about it?
I'm using HTC browser. It aligns text better then chrome.
stock and chrome ( only cuz its syncs with my home pc)

Wouldn't Chrome be considered the stock browser for our device?

Lol I almost said stock HTC browser. Glad I didn't.
well i've been using Opera Mini and Chrome with stock Samsung Browser.... (chrome is not my stock browser)
Opera Mini is the fastest browser..... but it lacks certsin usability on certain sites... like it wudnt let me download stuff from google drive... it wont even load the thing....
With Chrome, in portrait, seems like the text overlaps and some text is larger than other text, when it should all be the same. In Firefox, the text didn't overlap, but the fonts are different sizes. UC browser by default does that, but there is an option to disable that, that I didn't see in Chrome or FF.
I just use AOSP browser. It's better than the rest.
If you liked my post, please hit the "thanks" button.

Chrome, can alternative between tabs with my chromebook. Although I will switch to the HTC browser if it comes with the next OTA as I try to keep 3rd party apps to a minimum. I like OEM .

I use Chrome as well, but yes, the text is garbled in portrait mode on many sites, including this one. It's annoying. I keep using because I like to keep my bookmarks in sync (yes, Firefox, I know).
Using the phone in landscape, the text is fine.
I'm really enjoying UC Browser. It's fast, has some good stuff built it too. Looks like you can sync bookmarks on the cloud or with Chrome, but requires a (looks to be free) UC account. Reviews I've read claim Dolphin is fast. After using that for the last year or 2, UC is faster.
Lightning browser. Fast, free, no spyware or boat cough cough dolphin

Chrome beta browser for chromecast support. Also just turn the phone sideways and then back and the text issues will go away. Just saying.
