Hello All,
is Vodafone Sensation 'Locked to Vodafone Sim card only? anyone can test it? thank you.
Yep is it, i was in Vodafone shop today asking about it. They said it's locked but with pay monthly customers, they can unlock it...the girl said she had done it a few times with android devices...they just need a code she said.

fair enough
I'm just going by what the vodafone girl told me. I had a play with one of the phones in the shop, she did a little personal unboxing for me haha
Sense didn't lag at all. Had Vodafone branding on turn on and off and had those crappy voda apps.
My 3 sim works, so must be unlocked.
Are they selling this PAYG as I was debating using my monthly Vodafone SIM in it?
yes it is..

My HTC Sensation from Vodafone was unlocked straight out of the box.

Thanks. Actually a bit surprised at that because normally they keep such new flagship devices for contract only. That's why I hadn't really looked for it on PAYG.
Thank-you all.

is there any way by telling whether the phone is branded or not from preferably the box? ie, so i can go to vodashop and get one on contract, but checking the box labels first to make sure i get one unbranded...the one i had a play with in the shop today had the voda logo on start up and kinds of put me off as i'd like quick updates as-and-when they release...instead of waiting for voda
there is nothing showed 'vodafone things' on box, and nothing on outside of phone.
there is vodafone flash when turn on this phone, and several vodafone software already installed, and not allowed to uninstall (just several times, hope I didn't operate wrongly).
hope this helps.

perhaps there are different codes or something on the box.
I really hope there's a quick way without having to physically ask the assistant to turn each phone on in the hope they have an unbranded one. guessing it'll just be one of the 2 though....a batch of branded or unbranded...can't imagine it's a mix

As always if you want the quickest updates you have to go the SIM free route and I cannot see the Sensation being any different.
I yesterday moved from O2 to Vodafone and got the Sensation on a monthly contract. It is UNLOCKED and I still use my O2 SIM with it, waiting for my O2 number to port to Vodafone. As menntioned above. the Vodafone logo shows when power is turned on. I assume this means that it is branded and we will need to wait for software updates from Vodafone ruther than the general update.
It is unlocked and branded - but minimally.
Apart from the fugly Vodafone boot screen there were at least 3 Vodafone apps installed initially - the first one is visible as soon as you turn the phone on as it puts a nasty red icon in the notification bar!
First thing I did was load the "Vodafone 360 updates" program and disable automatic updates. I then ran the one outstanding update it was showing. The update downloaded and ran and then the other handful of Vodafone apps suddenly self-destructed! They all disappeared from the application drawer (for example there was initially a ****ty Vodafone Shop and Vodafone Music app). Now only the updates program is left and is set to be invisible.
I guess the Vodafone crapware was so crap that the self-update deleted all the apps! Excellent
Oh and I forgot to say. My last phone was the HTC Legend. When the froyo update came out for Legend, Vodafone had bribed HTC to release it on Vodafone branded handsets first and to hold back to unbranded handsets for a month's exclusivity! I suppose another benefit to branded handsets is that they should be correctly configured for the network - I never did manage to get O2 MMS working on my unbranded Legend.

Because I really want to buy it without any contract o-o

On the Vodafone eforum a Voda mod stated that it will be contact only to start with, at a guess while they have it exclusive. Also all Vodafone contract phones are sent out unlocked apart from iphones and fully exclusive phones like the first blackberry storm was.

The branding is VERY minimal on this. Quick Vodafone icon on boot up and shutdown, but it doesn't stay for long thankfully
how much does it cost at vodafone? and is it available on all of their shops?
I am planning to buy a second hand sensation from eBay and wanted to know if the phone is locked or unlocked to a network. Can I then load on the same software you would get on a sim free version. The reason for this is so I can get ota updates when HTC send them and not have to wait for the network provider to tinker before hand.

I'm not sure that you could tell whether it was tied to a network without asking the seller.
The tied phones are no different to the SIM-free ones, except that they have the "S-ON" set, are not rooted, and in some cases (e.g. Orange) are loaded with bloatware (who really wants a 3-turn demo of monopoly that cannot easily be removed?! )
However, once you have the phone, you can use the instructions on this site, e.g. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300 to break it free and install whatever you want!
As far as updates go, they seem to appear here far faster than they get pushed out, and there are some much better than stock ROMs. If you want to stay stock, look at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1193033. In addition, some kind soul has collated all the ROMS here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074559 so that you can change as you want.
I would just buy it and not worry!
Ok just got a sensation off ebay for £240 and its locked to orange. will follow advice from links above to root and get s off etc but from the list of roms which is the current and most up to date stock uk unlocked sim free rom?
will this also give the same root and s off to flash any rom i wish?
http://lifehacker.com/5789397/the-always-up+to+date-guide-to-rooting-any-android-phone
Bootloader unlocking, rooting, and getting S-OFF.... all have nothing to do with SIM unlocking. Your phone will still be locked to only Orange SIMs unless you obtain and enter an unlock code.
follow steps here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1232107
you need to root etc first.. then sim unlock
That's odd.
I didn't do the extra step, and I was able to use a T-Mobile SIM regardless. Mine came from Orange too. Perhaps there are some that are unlocked anyway, or perhaps it's because T-Mobile are part of the same group now??
In any case, glad that someone was able to help out!
Howdy, so... I'm quite new, obviously.
I've searched the forums for information regarding the SGH-i727r but came to the conclusion it does not have it's own forum so info. is scattered.
My question is: What is the going official name of this phone and/or does it matter what unlock code Model I use?
IE: I have a Galaxy S II SGH-i727r however all of the unlock websites I've been to do not specifically list the SGH-i727r as a model.
Which of the following would my model be closest to? (according to cellunlocker.net):
Galaxy S II LTE i727
Galaxy S II Skyrocket LTE i727
i727 Galaxy S II LTE
Or does it make a difference?
Thanks for the (hopeful) patience
Those three models you listed are all the same as far as the i727.. are you on rogers? i would assume it's the same phone as the at&t version. I don't know for sure, but try asking cell unlocker if you aren't sure. they should be able to tell you.
EDIT: so i just went to the site, just choose one of the ones you listed.. they are all the same, choose your network and enter your imei. It shouldn't be too hard man.
It's a toughie to describe what carrier I'm with. Rogers pulled out of Northwestern Ontario and sold they're 807 numbers to our local carrier in exchange for them to use the Rogers towers.
so, in a nutshell I'm Tbaytel powered by Rogers. My phone is an SGH-i727r (the r designates it's a rogers phone), and from the information I've gathered, Rogers is the only one that is LTE branded(?)
There are only a few minor differences between the few i727's that I know of, but I just don't want to pay for one and find out it's the wrong code.
In a perfect world....

No difference same phone, as long as it says i727, R just stands for Rogers baseman, u can flash custom tomorrow or radio and it will have no R.
Skyrocket=LYRICS in USA.
Before paying for code, use the unlockers for SII. In the market they should work.
Good luck

The unlockers do NOT work for our phone, sim unlock code must be obtained from an unlock site
I'm not going to say you are wrong or not, but if I recall (and I could also recall wrong) there were a few MINOR differences between brands of the models.
As well, 2 of those 3 devices are 24.99$ while the other is 7.99$ To me at least, that says they're different.
Gonna try searching more, thanks for the help.
CellUnlockedNow.com worked for me on my Rogers S2 LTE. Can't remember how much but it was cheaper than the rest without messing around with discount codes.
This is not a shill
Honestly, a bit hesitant on the cellunlockednow website. Read lots of bad reviews. But kudos if it was working for you
I'm back stuck in a .. equation again. I have a Rogers BRANDED phone but it's locked to my local carrier Tbaytel.
The only site that I have seen thus far with an unlock code for the Tbaytel network is Canadagsm dot com. Offering an unlock code for 35$! Seems a bit steep but, maybe it's because it's a goofy network and not a big telecomm one?
Borrow a Rogers sim card and unlock it, that should work. It'll save you $10, at least
I apologize, as I read through this I think i just made some things more confusing than they actually are, but I dug deeper and got a bit more info.
The phone is all Rogers. But just Tbaytel is a reseller of their phones. So my phone (SIM card?) is locked to the Tbaytel network.
I do, however, possess my old Rogers SIM card still.
However, my knowledge is that Tbaytel does NOT have any towers that are GSM compatible, and are strictly CDMA towers.
If I were unlock my phone with the Rogers SIM would that not still leave me with my Tbaytel sim LOCKED to the Tbaytel network? I could always use that Rogers SIM to get on their GSM networks, but as soon as it's plopped in my new phone its incompatible.
Again, I'm sorry for all of my confusing, queer'd up posts. It's a mess of a situation with an even messier carrier (tbaytel).
Might be wrong but i'm reading everywhere that the Samsung model is GT-I9210T. Hope that helps.
Use this option:
http://www.cellunlock.net/Unlock_Rogers_Fido_phones_p/rogersfidoimei.htm
Plus the code 'android50' and it's $8.50CAD. That's how I got mine.
They'll need the IMEI obviously and the model, I just put SGH-I727R.
Took them a little longer (28 hours) but it was worth the money I saved.

Just a quit note: I got the code and tried to unlock on ICS but no success. Then I reflashed back to GB and it went through.
Figured i'd update everybody.
Tbaytel fried my old Rogers SIM when they transfered my phone number from the Rogers SIM to the new Tbaytel SIM.
Therefore, I cannot use my old Rogers SIM to unlock.
So with this information, is it possible to use the current Tbaytel SIM to unlock the phone, and WITH THAT SIM be able to access the GSM network? As it stands the phone/SIM card is LOCKED to the TBAYTEL HSPA+ network and if I go into my network settings and choose GSM ONLY, I won't get registered on the network.
I'm very disgusted with Tbaytel but they are practically the only option, other than going with Koodo and using the CDMA network (plus crappy phones).

That's two different things. does not really matter.
Thanks for all the help this far, and sorry to be an idiot again. Just a quick question.
For unlocking, do I need to use an ACTIVE SIM card? I have 2 old inactive Rogers cards @ home, but I just thought that I may need an active one to do the unlocking.
And if so, will using it to unlock my phone have any consequence on the other person's SIM card?

You can try your old card. if not working just put an active card from other carrier. It will popup a windows ask your network unlock code. type the code to unlock. if succeed your phone will be working under other carrier; if not it will keeps popping up the window asking the code. There is no harm to other person's card.

First off, thank you for making a brilliant forum! Now that I dont get any further by searching for information I need som help from you guys.
Thing is: I have two sensations. Both are s-off, rooted, superCID and have the latest coindroid installed. Both are originally tmobile phones which were bought unlocked some while ago. They have both been used successfully in europe until now that im in the US.
For various reasons i have three simcards for these phones. And in one of them t-mobile doesnt seem to work at all. Neither before software modifications or after. The other phone with similar mods have no problems.
The other simcards are a norwegian one and another pay-as-you-go simcard which has been used since t-mobile doesnt work.
Since both phones are rooted and s-off I guess there is a setting somewhere. Where is this particular setting? Anybody that could come a newbie to the rescue?
Thanks!
no setting if phone dont ask for a unlock code or has been unlocked i am going to say bad/banned imi number call t-Mobile and ask them if your phone is black listed
The phone is blocked by tmobile it appears. Bought it off amazon nine months ago. The phone was sold as new and "unlocked" back then and w/o warranty, but not as stolen phone. Im angry right now.
Neither Tmobile or HTC are very helpful on the phone. Costumer service at Tmobile keeps failing to put me over to anyone who can help.
Any tips on how to proceed further? Showing up at one of their shops and stay there until someone is able to help?
Since the phone is without warranty its very tempting to do illegal stuff to it right now.

I am going to be selling my One S, but before I do I have a couple of questions. Because my phone is from Bell, it is likely it will be much harder to sell since it is a Canada only carrier. First of all is it possible to flash another carrier's RUU to my phone? If it is, would my phone be still be locked to the Bell network, or could I sell it as lets say a T-Mobile phone.

It's don't matter If you flash another ruu. Your phone to be unlock inorder to use another carrier. If your phone is rooted, unlock is free. If not probably pay 20$ for third party
