[Q]ICS Improvements - Samsung Galaxy R i9103

Hey guyz, I have been on stock GB 2.3.5(India) for the last year. Been reluctant to switch to ICS, as people have mentioned gaming issues. I searched but couldn't find a single post that points out the improvements in ICS over GB in Galaxy R. Is it worth switching to ICS? Sorry if I sound dumb, but I don't know much about this. I see that we have CM10 but I'm new to this and not yet ready for it as I'm worried about warranty and stability. It would be really helpful if someone would be kind enough to point out the improvements in ICS n is gaming really laggy? What other issues are there compared to GB? Sorry for being too jumpy and anxoius.

Yes gaming is laggy. On the other hand, scrolling has improved manifold in ICS, many features of ICS like
Inbuilt data usage
New settings menu
Last but not the least, access to apps compatible with ICS!
All this can be experienced, in case u plan to upgrade

Have you searched the same in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1983262 thread..??
BTW if you still not sure what to do, then connect your unrooted GB phone to Kies using PC & then update it to ICS. as its available in India also.:good:

Have anyone tried Official Indian ICS??

I have a very basic question.
The ICS (India) OTA upgrade is 240mb while the one to be flashed via Odin is 617 mb. Why this discrepancy?
Will there be any kind of difference between the two with regards to phone performance?

The OTA update just has the difference between the previous and new version of software and is compressed. Whereas Odin tar contains the whole package of software. Also, Odin tar (approx 600MB) when compressed, comes down in size (Approx 300MB).

Been testing indian ics for past few days, but the battery life is really bad. Anyways thanx for ur inputs. From some posts I've seen that the polish ICS is the best so far, I mean fewer game lags were reported. Is this true? Can someone confirm? I may switch to it if thats the case, until we have a stable CM.

How does one check if there is the emmc bug in the OTA ICS India update? Is there a simple way of checking for the same?

Wipe the Data in CWM and restart it, if your mobile is working fine then there is no eMMC bug else you are effected and you have successfully bricked your mobile (Simple way to check the eMMC bug )......
ok jokes apart Samsung I9103 Kernel source it self is having this bug so all the Stock kernel's will have it....

i was the first person who have effected / found the eMMC bug for Galaxy R by using the simple way which i have mentioned above ......

Well i meant simple way without bricking ofcourse! I have had signal disconnections in all ICS ROMs (custom & stock). The OTA update is working fine, no signal disconnections till now.

Weird. Ive never faced any problem.with any of the roms. (Stock or Custom) except on power up
Tried XWLP2, XXLQ9, ZSLPD, CAMP ROM, PAC ROM, BB ROM 2.1, CM10
No such problem.
And on the GB INDIAN version...2 visits per week to the SSC from DAY TWO. I started hating galaxy R. But then the Company Owned SSC guys made my life easier and repaired and tested my phone for three days and put some other GB (as they told me) ^_^
I love my Royale now :')
Buddy bdw i would recommend you to get your network cable replaced/checked for once. These network disconnections can mean the hardware being faulty. (at times) (scary)
Has happened to me once on day two of buying galaxy R.
Sent from my GT-I9103 using xda app-developers app

Well when i ment signal disconnections, it is not about data internet but about the network for calls.
I had described the problem 'as i can see' in the thread below
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31787563
Also see the "post issues in ICS" thread under General section where I am testing a solution for this as suggested by Vikesh and MJ Vikram.
Sent from my GT-I9103 using xda premium

Buddy this is exactly what was happening to me.
The network came and vanished like anything.
The clock (being set by the network's time) used to run to the current time on receiving network.
The SSC guys changed my network cord for this problem right in front of me. (It is a blue wire in our phone)
Since then my signals have nsver gone 0. Theyre always somewhere between -60 to -89 dbm.
I was just suggesting that it might be a hardware issue.
Sent from my GT-I9103 using xda app-developers app

Buddy I never thought it could be a hardware issue since i never had this even once either on GB stock rom or the NeoRom v3 which i used for nearly year. While I have always had it on stock ICS or Mazel 2 with ardatdat kernal v4.1 and above. There are others too who have had this and named it the 'call bug'. I am now testing with v4.0.
Unless....its a hardware issue unmasked by the said kernal. Lets see.

[Q] Another ATT leak of Gingerbread 2.3.5..?

Hey guys, i just stumbled upon this last night when i was googling something about the infuse.
droidangel.blogspot . com/2011/09/at-usa-i997ucki1-android-235
EDIT: Apparently i can't read and just noticed this said UCKi1 and not UCKI4... sorry for the useless waste of space everyone....
It is, the KI1 shown on samfirmware is the KI4
If you download it, the file name is I997UCKI4_UC_ATT.rar also
Thanks Uncle Irish, just realized that myself.
np
If you choose to run it, some are having wifi issues (not working properly). You'll get a rainbow static screen on boot also. Not ready for prime time, but it ran well for a few hours while I farted around with it.

Is this working properly? I think you need Kies for installing this. Can anyone give me a working like to download kies for infuse?

odin not kies.
the leaks run well in stock form. there is the issue with rainbows on boot. and with a custom kernel there is the issue with wifi.
I deodexed ki3 not ki4 but it had problems with the email app not installing and dropping cell connection with the stock kernel and ran slow but odexed It seems pretty good. maybe I need to use different deodexed scripts.
Have you installed the leaked version? Is it buggy & what does it change?

Oh boy now you have me worried enough to have went and done some research and I didn't like what I found. You think this could possibly affect the skyrocket to? I think I'm not flashing anything else until I get time to Odin back to stock
What did you roll back to 2.3.5 or 2.3.6? If you have a link to to Odin one click back to 2.3.5 I would greatly appreciate it if you would post it. I think I'll go back to 2.3.5 and decide if I want to update to 2.3.6 and just wait for the official ics release whenever that may be.

[Q] HELP! SGS3 AOKP ROM no signal when receiving calls

Hi, I'm new to XDA so please forgive my noobyness. I recently bought a Samsung Galaxy SIII (white, unlocked) here in Singapore. Since then, I've installed the latest stock roms, then tried out aosp custom roms, and finally settled with aokp after flashing CM9.
My problem is that whenever I receive a call and answer it, my signal suddenly disappears (no signal bars with a tiny "x" mark). Whenever I make a call, I dont hear the ringing tone. I cannot hear the person im calling or calling me, and I learned that the same is true for the other end. After we end the call (which never really happened), the signal goes back to full bars, which is my true signal strength (i have excellent signal almost all the time).
I can also send messages without any problems and connect with my data plan. It's just the calls. Not sure when it started. Probably last time I flashed an original stock rom, or started using custom roms. Please help, its killing me slowly.
Thanks
Cm9 for your phone is still under development of I'm not wrong.. Hence there can be bugs in it and that's the reason you are facing signal drop issue..
Report this in your forum so that it will be rectified.
However, flash a stock ROM and see if it is a faulty software or fault in your phone..

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately, XDA keeps telling me that I'm still new here (less than 10 posts) so I can only post in the general and Q&A forums, and not the development forums. And yes, I'm currently trying to clean up and install the latest stock rom. I'll report back on the progress. Any good soul out there who can notify the AOKP guys about this will receive a cookie.

Okay..
I guess there is problem in your hardware.. Do one thing, flash the latest firmware available for your region and take it to your Samsung service center.. They will rectify the issue..
NOTE: before going to service center make sure that you have reset your flash counter using triangle away software.. Or else your phone warranty will be void..

The brick bug Stock ICS

Does the new ICS for the att version of the skyrocket have a safe kernal or is it still at risk of having the emmc corrupted?
Update: it seems the brick bug is in the stock ics 4.0.4 , use caution when wiping back to factory. Entropy512 has informed me that the att rom has the mmc_cap_erase command in a host file where rogers does not. I will update as soon as more info becomes available to me.

You are incorrect as from what I understood from your original post you were on a rooted gb rom and flashed back to stock in order to update via kies. 1st off, gb kernels aren't an issue and 2nd, Odin is a safe work around the brick bug issue.
No where in here do u say that u went into the settings on ics and performed a factory reset. That will be the true test
Edit: I revisited your post and see youbdidnt specify gb vs ics but even if u were on ics and went back to stock this wouldn't be a problem through Odin

I didn't read anything offensive. I was just trying to wrap my head around what u were talking about. I understand now. As I stated in my previous post though the gb kernels were not affected.

If you are so afraid, then you should *not* be flashing custom roms, since pretty much every custom rom/kernel will have that disclaimer..

And as for the erasing photos and all. Flashing does *NOT* delete the contents of the internal or external sdcard (except for platform specific data). It will delete /system /data and /cache, read the pinned threads here on what that means (as the install instructions says, you will have to do that step anyways and make a nandroid backup).."

i'll leave it to you guys to decide what this means

In general, the brick bug was specific to I believe certain leaks not on our device. And, if you are flashing a custom rom/kernel they all have a big disclaimer, that you can brick your device in many other ways. Do a grep for MMC_CAP_ERASE in drivers/mmc/host - Give me a list of each file it appears in.

Had anyone tried to port a optimus 2x rom yet?

I used to own this device when it came out. And left it but still miss it. I see that since then and now I havent seen an optimus 2x rom port yet. I know about the difference with these two devices and I know that flashing a 2x rom out of the box will make you lose your radio/modem even though the phone works great without data/calls. But I have seen this method about porting roms from another manufactures. And it uses CM as a base.
So I was wondering if any dev here had tried doing that? Porting a stock optimus 2x ICS using CM ICS as a base. Here is the link by the way. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=40575946 If you did I would like to know about your progress.
Wow not a single replied. I see why this phone is dev death.
I tried it, got the phone to boot the login screen but that was it. It would not let me continue past it and I realized it was a Jellybean port so there wouldn't have been a radio anyway and gave up as I have no development experience.

It's somewhat useless. We can build CM9/CM10/CM10.1 ROMs without radio (and with full hardware acceleration) that are made to fit onto the G2X without any partition size change/bootloader change.

Yes but correct me if Im wrong.. This is like porting MIUI.. Just use a cm base roms,... I wonder why nobody could figure out how to port the stock 2x rom without the bootloader, firmware? You pretty much dont need that on other phones. Like on the Samsung GS2, GS3. GS4.. When I had this phone back in the day. A stock 2x rom would work fine on my G2X only issue was unknown baseband. So no data and calls, And the only way to get it back was with a backup on nvidiatool or whatever it was called.
Ive actually tried , everything was working except all you end up with is unknown baseband .. which is pretty much the same as all the 4.2 jb roms ..this phone is a lemon .. they should have a lemon law with phones too .. lg never again

Use the search feature, I'm sure it has been done before but probably a long time ago when the phone just came out. If your gonna attempt it, your going to need a lot of experience, time and patience for the bull*****. A lot of great devs have tried cm10 & cm9 porting but with no success.
