please clear my confusion... - HTC Pico (Explorer)

i got understand everything about flashing, recovery, cwm, bla bla bla.. i have some confusions please clear it..
1. after i root i will have defualt rom, and kernel ryt.. i dont have any custom kernel like Yannou's kernel.. so now i want to flash my rom to jaggy rom.. if i do that it will automatically change to Yannou's kernel...??
2.after flashing to jaggy it changes to Yannou's kernel.. how can i change it to anthor kernel without changing jaggy rom.. like if want to chage it to CRANIUM KERNEL with jaggyrom installed phone.. how to do that..
ANS. can i flash directly CRANIUM KERNEL with recovery. will it replace Yannou's kernel without bricking the phone. is it right.. or anything else to do that.
3. same thing for any rom.. like if i have NExtGen 1.5.. it shipped with akya's kernel. so after flash this rom. if i want to change Yannou's kernel.. what should i do.. directly can flash that kernel.. like recovery menu>install zip from sd card>now flash the rom.. thats it?? or anything else am i missing..
4. for example i flashed with jaggyrom.. so now i want to change the theme or boot animation of that jaggy rom.. he given some zip files in that thread.. how to install that.. ??
please dont delete thread.. i am fully confused about these.. please if you explain these i may able to give reviews to your roms..
pls.. help me.. drag me out of my confusion..

1. After root you have default kernel. After jaggy's rom you have yannou's kernel
2. To get new kernel just flash it, BUT you should mount /data and /system
3. With NExt Gen 1.5, while flashing you have the choice to choose whichever kernel you want, if you don't like it check out the NExt Gen's first page on which kernels will work fine with the rom. Another thing is, you should first flash the rom and AFTER that flash kernels, again with /data and /system mounted
4 Just flash them, if you get HTC white screen pull out the battery, insert it again, if again get htc white screen, flash again with /data and /system mounted.
And important thing, don't panic

Usually the kernel will present in the System partition. Some time there is need of data partition to add some addition information..
That the reason why need those two partitions...
Its not must for all kernel flashable zip i think...
Because the developer will made the script that will mount those partition while installing..
Some times the script may not work on some recovery that the reason its safer to mount the partition manually...

im not sure what im missing- i have smooth maximus x, rom manager, and it has the recovery or whatev- but when i boot into recovery it boots the stock one- wtf! the menu for rom manager is not flashing the img. it says it is. just erased everything for nothing!problem?
If its going to the stock recovery, its working fine! when you are on stock recovery menu, choose install packages (or whatever it is) and that will get you into clockwork recovery.
But its not loading to clockworks revovery. It just goes to standard start up when that option is selected.
correction
Sorry correction- I try that, and it says "signature verififaction failed- installation aborted." Why?

why are you using ROM manager to flash the recovery if your on SMX ? SMX has bali 2.2 in it wich has CWM built into the kernel so your recovery should be the RED voodoo CWM recovery by default. and if stock blue recovery is coming up for some reason yu should be able to reinstall packages cause SMX has the modded stock recovery already
No no no, I'm not on smx- I'm trying to install the darn thing. I'm still on the stock rom. When I boot into recovery there are 4 options-
Reboot now
Wipe data
Wipe cache
Install packages
When selecting install packages, it fails via signature verification. There are no cwm recovery options available, either.
ooh .. your problem is you have to be rooted which im sure you already are ..
then go to the CWM thread in the DEV section and apply the modded recovery to system/bin . this will make the recovery ignore the signature check so you can flash CWM then SMX
use root explorer or adb push this file
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2993191/recovery
to /system/bin
then put this file on the root of ur sd
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2993191/update.zip
and put maximus x rom on ur sd
reboot recovery
reinstall packages
now ur in cwm
- Wipe Data/Factory Reset
- Wipe Cache Partition
Go to mounts and storage
UNMOUNT CACHE
MOUNT DATA
MOUNT SDCARD
UNMOUNT SYSTEM
install zip from sd
choose zip from sd
look for maximus x rom install and u should be good
after you flash, go back to mounts and storage (before rebooting) and make sure your mounts look like this
UNMOUNT CACHE
MOUNT DATA
UNMOUNT SDCARD
UNMOUNT SYSTEM
this is as easy as i can put it
Thank you very muych for your persistence to help! I am a noob and cannot find the ty button. I'm a newb, I know.HOWEVER....…I am not a newb to this in general, and I have tried that already. I read that forum . Duh!this is what happens when trying to move the file to sys.bin:
Root explorer says:
Paste operation failed-
Does not say why. I found a solution! Another forum says to downgrade to stock recovery e2, then cwm will work. But I have to get odin and crap. So if there is something I'm STILL missing, and can't move the file there for that reason, don't hesitate to enlighten me.
you need to move the modded recovery to /system/bin/recovery, anything that tells you to downgrade is not correct, as we do not have anything to 'downgrade' to. The modded recovery from Krylon does the same thing. you should be following this:
1. download the recovery.zip from krylon
2. extract the .zip and copy the recovery file to your sdcard
3. use root explorer to copy the recovery from the sdcard to /system/bin/recovery
if it fails, make sure that /system is mounted as read write, rather than read only, there should be a button in root recovery to mount read/write.
Thank you sir! I was comitting a syntax error... maybe by attempting to copy the file from the wrong directory. No, the downgrade works... I was reffering to e2 recovery for samsung rather than e3 which requires signature ver. But that takes waaaaaay longer. So thank you. I was trying to copy the whole zip, rather than the actual file because I thought I had extracted it(stupid). But yeah. Ty! Will see if cwm works now.
Glad to hear that it worked for you, let me know how cwm works out for you, as well as whatever parts come after that for you. Don't forget the Thanks button if someone helps you
The files are in their proper places, all is right.
But when I boot into recovery, I am startled with fright!
For its still normal, its still stock-
So help me ill throw this phone like a rock!
Haha. But seriously. Still same issue.
FAILS TO INSTALL ANYTHING
"Signature verification failed- installation aborted."
It seems I will have to do it the hard way by installing e2. This was this issue for the galaxy s.
Why does no one else with a sidekick have to do this!!!!? Why is it not giving y'all signature verification errors! Why is there no video yet?
Sig verification issues relate to the recovery. it should still look like stock, as the original CWM is a fake flash. Make sure you have the cwm update.zip from Krylon's thread in your sdcard.
It is!!!!!! I think I'm going to cry.
Recovery is saved (overwrite) as instructed.
Update is on sd card as instructed.
Can't be corrupted, deleted files and tried again.
Boot into recovery and stock shows (as it should.)
Re-install from package (only option other than data wipe and reboot)
Whole signature failure
Signature verification failure
Installation aborted. :'(
i'll make you a script and a zip of everything to do this for you later, but that won't be until a bit later, still have to drive my girl home. in the meantime, can you try redownloading the cwm from ayo's original post? also, have you tried the rom manager version of cwm?
Roger that.
And it would be greatly appreciated. If it is, however, just another list of the instructions as mentione previously in this thread, or in the original rom post, forget it. But if there's something new then sure. Heck, a video would be great. I'm sure I wouldn't be the only one watching it either. And I will redownload all of it again(non-existant jesus christ) and try again in the meantime. Thank you again for your effort and supporth surely it must be that I am the only on with this issue. So I am unique on xda! Silly video...
i could even go so far as to skype someone to SHOW them ive got it right or what i have done, in which case i would hope for an "ah ha!now that thurz ya problem right thur neow."
Ok, I have a script for you, it's semi-tested? I already have root in my adb, so I can't test it as well, but it should work. let me know what happens. just unzip this, and run the run.bat.
this will reboot you into recovery after it's done, so make sure you're not doing anything on your phone when you run it.
https://sites.google.com/a/stephenduvick.com/www/files/sk4gtestoneclickroot.zip?attredirects=0&d=1
Credit to Noobnl for the original script, and krylon for the fake flash.
So how exactly do I run the run.bat? Its not an exe or script file... is there a command list I need to put in? (Gawd, the last custom rom I installed(cliq xt) was so much easier, before there even was a clockwork mod. It was easier, and that was when it was the hard way!) And my phone is already rooted, sure that doesn't matter though.

anything new Stock ROM suggestion plzzz help.....
Try adb to push img file
Sent from my GT-S5830 using xda premium
have you tried to flash DDKQ5 new?
I also used DDKQ5 for long time and it worked fine. Maybe there went something wrong with the basic flash.
try this:
1. download Creed´s ROM 1.3 ---> here (as it is based on DDKQ5). You also might need this BENI_v1.0.ops
2. flash it via ODIN. If you don´t know how, read this and follow the simple HOW TO (not the HOW TO 1.4+)
3. flash CWM
4. You should get it running now

A file system is defining HOW data is being read and written.
RFS file system is the standard Android file system which is provided by stock ROMs and way slower than ext4-filesystem.
CWM works with ext3 or (depending on version of CWM) ext4.
Also most Custom ROMs are running ext4.
You might deal better with the definition file-system, when I say, that older Windows-Systems ran with FAT/FAT32-Filesystems, newer (like XP or VISTA and WIN7) are using much faster NTFS. Linux Systems run EXT, EXT2, EXT3 or even EXT4 filesystem, depending on the Distribution and/or version.
To get use of an ext4 file system all media (as internal mem and SD) has to be partitioned and formatted in a special way.
this could be done by eg CWM itself for the SD, the internal format will be done by the depending ROM.
Don´t forget to always make backup of SD-Card, before doing something partitioning work. You WILL lose all DATA on the card, if not
CWM mount problem
I have a question about CWM. I installed it on my stock rom and now it says unable to mount /system. will i be able to flash other custom roms? and if i can how to make a backup of current rom?
p.s. i made a backup of all my apps via Titanium Backup Pro, and if i install it on new rom will it be able to restore those apps there? and does flashing a kernel and rom changes my baseband version?

so i think it would be better to add init.d and ext support in stock kernel rather than trying custom roms

Today i successfully installed Jaggy Rom 5 after 2 unsuccessful Attempts
I checked the updater-scripts something was missing there i think so
So i Added missing lines of Busybox and format partitions lines in start after that there was no boot hang at htc logo you can compare that updater script in attachment View attachment updater-script.zip
But after enabling m2sd i constantly started getting messages super user has closed unexpectedly and similarly about google apps and other
apps processes i restarted phone 2 to 3 times but it didn't solve the problem i had followed your steps about m2sd settings but there was no option of remount instaed there was reversed mount option which i checked
So i request you to tell me the method to add init.d and ext support in stock kernel i dont wana use cutom roms i shall be thankfull to you

I think you didn't follow the steps given in the instructions in the rom thread correctly.
You need to give root permissions first, then click on configure busybox in the menu that pops up,then click on configure script,go back and click configure and there, select remount and data.do not select dalvik cache and applications.click on journal and choose automatic and do the same for cache. Finally, click on sd-ext type and choose it.
reboot and wait for about 10 mins(though it takes a lil less than 10 mins).

To get over this, I will say....download the file again and repeat the exact procedure as given. Maybe the file u downloaded got corrupted.
Option 2 : Try some other ROM and see if problem persists.
Option3 (recommended) : wait for some elite people's advice
do the same procedure again, format all boot, system, dalvik, cache, sd-ext, Mount sd card only .
create ext3 partition must 1 GB req. use yannou recv..
* dont use oc kernel now
It worked
Thank you very much. Previously i used ext4 partition and cwm recovery by some other. Now followed your instructuions and got installed the htc sense 4.1 lite on my Explorer.

How to Install Gapps ? (/system and /data on sd-ext)

My mmc got fried while formatting my /system and /data partition using twrp, so I moved my /system and /data partition to sd-ext partitions which I made using 4EXT recovery using delta-roh Turbo-DATA mod.
Here is what my partitions look like
1st partition -> SD-card -> vfat
2nd partition -> sd-ext -> /system -> ext4
3rd partition -> sd-ext2 -> /data -> ext4
Currently I have cm-11 by Ivanich on my phone but cant install Gapps. I ve been editing the update-binary in the Gapps zip but it always returns me the error that
"This Gapps pkg is for android version 4.4.x ...... Your rom : 2.3.7"
But I have a kitkat installed. I am guessing that its not reading the build.prop correctly. So how do I install Gapps ?
Any help is appreciated ...
More info about my phone
S-off
Bootloader unlocked
Rooted
Recovery : 4EXT
Rom : CM-11 by Ivanich
A recovery with modified ramdisk might be necessary. Maybe @hinxnz can help you with that.

Yes you can use AIK for recovery image, you'll need to modify fstab like you did with the boot image. I have never unpacked 4ext though and it's a bit outdated now but I've always used ivanich's twrp builds when modifying recovery.
Otherwise you could just modify the updater script in the gapps package to not mount data etc but this will have to be done every time.
Edit: I just read your first post and I'm not sure how you even flashed ROM if your system partition is bad, did you modify the ROMs updater script to flash it to your new system on sd-ext or something? If so gapps could be reading your old system, then I'm thinking is it actually bad or just your data partition is...

Yep I modified the roms updater script to mount sd-ext as /system and sd-ext2 as /data.
I cant modify the gapps updater script because its just a dummy file and all the code is in update binary and it needs some experienced programming .
I ll try modifying the recovery's fstab and post the results.
"/etc/recovery.fstab" is that the file I need to modify ?
Edit:
I also tried adding the gapps to the rom zip itself and flashed it but that made the rom useless because it kept rebooting.
