Hello i just rooted my xoom using this method here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1083739 I installed titanium to make sure i had root and i do. I also installed rom manager and clicked on flash CWM (which i didnt mean to) but i flashed the recovery using rom manager. Im now using CWM 4.0.0.4 which i heard was a bad thing not to use 4. However my question here is what do i need to do to get the sd card working? Also do i need to reflash CWM with this here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074979 and if so can i do this in cwm 4.0.0.4 Im trying to flash the 3g_light_on_speed.zip file. However cant figure out if i put the 3g light.zip on internal memory and flash with cwn or what. How do i get sd support so i can start flashing the tiamat kernel 1.4.4 ?? Any help would be great thanks !! and im on 3.1 just to note .
In ROM manager go to the bottom and choose All ClockworkMod Recoveries. Flash 3.0.2.5. Then go to Solarnz's thread and flash 3.2.2. Thread is pinned to the top of the Development section.
After you complete that, go to the thread for Tiamat 1.4.4 and flash it through CWM.

This works, or if you have fastboot going, you can fastboot the cwm.img from the post above. MAKE SURE YOU GET THE IMAGE AND NOT A ZIP.
Okay thanks for the help! so your talking about this here right http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074979 and i should flash this with fastboot not in cwm right? sorry just wanted to make sure here.. After i flash this .img it will give me sd support or no ? Sorry im not trying to be a pain but with out the sd support im lost lol . Never had to deal with no sd support.. Thanks for the help !!
Thanks so much !! i now have CWM v 3.2.0.0 ! thanks again ! Ryan
I have G2X on Bootloop after installing Clockwork from Rom Manager (Not NvFlash, shhhhhh) and installing CM7, stuck on Cyanogenmod skateboard logo animation. Power + volume down boots into stock Android Recovery 3e, with options scroll-able but not select-able.
My question is:
Is it possible to flash recovery rom from pc and so on? More importantly, have I perma bricked my phone?
*I did a search on the topic but could not find a definite answer. Posting for clarification.
Thanks!
I'd say your best best would be to try flashing recovery using the nvflash method, then try a full wipe and reinstall your Rom. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply!
And oops, wrong Forum. Move to Q&A please. Sorry
You can definitely flash CWM with the NVFlash method which will allow you to go into recovery, you havent bricked!!
I want to install the ClockworkMod TOUCH 5.5.0.4 v4 . but I found there are many ways to install it , odin and cwm
I have both , but somebody said they have trouble to flash in Cwm and some others said there are some mini error happened when they use the odin way. which way is more safe to flash the ClockworkMod touch instead of my non touch CWM.
if i flash with CWM, the touch will replace the CWM, or they will both installed on my phone???
I've always used Odin with no problems. To my knowledge you can't flash a recovery from a recovery. You could use rom manager from the market if your rooted but I hear bad things about using rom manager to flash clockwork. My advice use Odin

please take a look
i agree with you that we can not to flash a recovery with another recover. however, please take a look the link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1472954
the first one is a zip file and the instruction said
( Just flash in CWM
- this one creates the .hidenandroidprogress file for you so you dont need to create it manually)
what is that mean??
i have already flash the non touch CWM on my phone, is it ok to flash this touch with odin , do i need to wipe the data or something i need to be careful before i flash, please let me know. i did not find a instruction detail with that.
Some phones you have to create that file and some you don't. On mine when creating a backup it would hang up. So what I did was flash in Odin the recovery image then installed the zip thru cwm then wipe cache and dalvick cache... also it is important that you have the latest version of busybox installed...
Try flashing the recovery in Odin first and if all works well then don't do anything else but if it hangs on making a backup then do what I said above... if you get stumped just let me know and I'll try to walk you thru it

1. Yes you can just use Odin and flash cwm touch. I had an earlier version installed and wanted to update so I just cranked up Odin 1.85 click PDA navigate to where you downloaded the tar file make sure repartition is NOT checked and flash away.
2. All you are flashing is a recovery image so no need to wipe anything.
3. Yes if something goes wrong you should be able to restore your backup or if you wanted you could look in the dev section and find the Odin one click 2.3.5 att stock firmware and flash it and start over. But that is not necessary. However I do recommend you download the phones stock firmware from sammobile.com and store it on your PC just in case you ever need it for any reason....
OK I think I covered everything so if you need anymore help let me know and as always happy flashing....
Oh btw flashing is very addictive. I'm a flashaholic... so flash at your own risk

if the instructions to root & flash rom seem too complicated, perhaps it is best that you don't try it on your own. There are services, example mobiletechvideos, that will do it for a fee.
as far as the cable goes, any samsung micro usb phone cable, should do both charging and data fine.
fyi, you probably want to post future questions to the Captivate Q&A forum.

I didn't flash my phone for years because I was too worried about losing data and dealing with all the random garbage of flashing, random errors, bootloops etc. that happen without warning, but trust me, when I did it, it wasn't as bad as I thought. Initially, I had errors and had to reflash to stock by download some other software, so crap happens but I'm decent at flashing now and I only started 2 weeks ago.
I had some trouble and had a thread on this forum and people were helping me and I was helping myself. Have to learn how to do this and then it becomes easy.
But I feel terrible about it because I've hated this phone since the day I got it but with the CM10 fixes it runs so amazingly that I should just keep it, but I still hate it so much I want an S3. Its amazing with the right ROM. I just wish I had flashed it way earlier so that I could enjoy using it instead of hating it for crashing all the time and being laggy.
EDIT: I'll post the guide in another thread
^
There is absolutely no need to get Root before trying to flash a custom rom.
You must, however, use Odin or Heimdall to flash a kernel that has the CWM Recovery. When you have done this, you simply need to reboot into said cwm recovery and flash the rom of your choice.
Please read the Stickied Threads in the General and Q & A Forums. This will help you a lot.

Now i must chose the kernel ?Wich one should i chosee?
When its time to install clockworkmod ?
Will u help me step by step please?
There are a very few steps for you to install CM9/CM10.
1. On your computer, search for "Odin3 1.85" on Google. The first link should be an XDA link which will directly download Odin3. Unzip it and execute the Odin .exe file.
2. Now search "how to install cm7 captivate wiki", click the second link and scroll down to see "WARNING: INSTALLING A CUSTOM RECOVERY IMAGE ON THE SAMSUNG CAPTIVATE WILL VOID THE WARRANTY." Below that you can download mtcarey's Kernel with ClockworkMod Recovery 5.
3. Put your Captivate in Download mode. To do this, turn it off, hold both volume up and down buttons and plug the phone to your computer. You will probably need Samsung Galaxy S drivers to make the computer to recognize the phone. (I'm not sure about the link, I'll try to get it later)
4. In Odin, make sure the phone is added in the Message box. Click PDA and choose the CWM kernel .tar file you just downloaded. Make sure that ONLY "Auto Reboot" and "F. Reset Time" are checked and then click start. Your phone will reboot shortly!
5. You now have a custom recovery in your phone, which will allow you to install any custom ROM. Unplug your phone, remove the battery and put it back on. Hold both volume buttons and the power button to make your phone to boot into Recovery mode. Plug the phone back and in the recovery, navigate to Mounts and Storage with volume buttons. Press Power to select. Now press Mount USB Storage to mount the phone to your computer.
6. Go to get.cm website and find "captivatemtd" in the left section. There you can download the latest CM10 nightly and put it into your phone! Be patient for the download. On your computer, eject your phone, unmount it in recovery and you can unplug it. Navigate to Install zip from SD card, choose zip and find the ROM you downloaded. Wait for it to finish and that's it, enjoy Android Jelly Bean!
Note that your recovery is now ClockworkMod Recovery 6. You can keep this recovery or install another kernel if you want. Search for "captivate android development" on Google, open the XDA link and find a thread that begins with [Kernel][JellyBean] like Devil and Semaphore kernels.
Why stop at ICS? You can go with one of the JB ROM's recently released, I started my flashing experiences with ICS, settled on the SlimICS version and have been upgrading with every new release they've posted

After installing CM9 or 10 The phone uses the kernel of the Rom installed?
Iv read a lot of guides
Yours and one of the member korockinout13 was the simplest ones
Yours use odin and the other heimdall
All the guides are the same and in the finish all have same result?
I hope I helped you and you didn't have any issues!
I suppose they have the same result. The kernel installed in a CyanogenMod ROM comes with the original CWM recovery but I don't think this is a stock ICS/JB kernel.
You can use Heimdall or Odin, maybe the features are different but I'm used to Odin.

I havent tried yet
In the moment i install the kernel in PDA on Odin this makes possible the recovery mode when the phone is powered on with volume buttons?
yes, by flashing a CWM rom, you will be able to backup and restore your current rom as well as flash new roms, by using the three button startup.
if you do the three button startup with your existing non-CWM rom, you will get a simple stock recovery menu but it won't let you do much. hope this helps.

I'm not sure you're right. If your flash the kernel I described (Corn kernel I think), you will then be able to boot into CWM recovery and make a backup. If you want to only backup your apps or SMS, use Titanium Backup. You will need to have root permissions to do this. Go on androidsu dot com slash superuser and download Superuser 3.2 RC3 for ARM devices. You will have to flash it in recovery mode.
I must use speedmod kernel before installing cm9 or cm10?

No, unless this is the kernel I told you to download in step 2 (mtcarey's kernel). Flash this one and you will be able to flash CyanogenMod. The phone will probably reboot the recovery when you will start flashing. If the installation doesn't resume automatically, just reflash the zip and you're done.
I got it
Cyanogen mod only "wants" the "mtcarey's Kernel" ?
Greetings all,
I have a Verizon S3 and after reading the posts here I felt froggy so I took the leap to root. I downloaded Odin and used this as the ROM
(stripped.rooted.system.img.tar.md5.zip, md5sum: 4d664b60b1ad5952a332bd1d78aa228b). The phone rebooted and is running as normal.
My question is in regard to the next step. I have EZ-Recovery, Recovery Manager, and CWR Manager (v5.0.2.0) installed as apps. I do not have an external SD card yet (tomorrow). What do I need to do to backup? I ran the CWR, flashed the CWM Recovery and backed up the current ROM.
Am I good to do the Synergy ROM the same way? I'm ok with a full wipe of the phone. Do I need to unlock the bootloader? Have I escaped the brick risk?
Thanks in advance for the answers!
wrong forum。。 this is the international gs3.forum. flashing anything here will brick your phone
