Can i charge it with the usb data cable of the Galaxy s3 gt i9300 ?

if the instructions to root & flash rom seem too complicated, perhaps it is best that you don't try it on your own. There are services, example mobiletechvideos, that will do it for a fee.
as far as the cable goes, any samsung micro usb phone cable, should do both charging and data fine.
fyi, you probably want to post future questions to the Captivate Q&A forum.

I didn't flash my phone for years because I was too worried about losing data and dealing with all the random garbage of flashing, random errors, bootloops etc. that happen without warning, but trust me, when I did it, it wasn't as bad as I thought. Initially, I had errors and had to reflash to stock by download some other software, so crap happens but I'm decent at flashing now and I only started 2 weeks ago.
I had some trouble and had a thread on this forum and people were helping me and I was helping myself. Have to learn how to do this and then it becomes easy.
But I feel terrible about it because I've hated this phone since the day I got it but with the CM10 fixes it runs so amazingly that I should just keep it, but I still hate it so much I want an S3. Its amazing with the right ROM. I just wish I had flashed it way earlier so that I could enjoy using it instead of hating it for crashing all the time and being laggy.
EDIT: I'll post the guide in another thread

^
There is absolutely no need to get Root before trying to flash a custom rom.
You must, however, use Odin or Heimdall to flash a kernel that has the CWM Recovery. When you have done this, you simply need to reboot into said cwm recovery and flash the rom of your choice.
Please read the Stickied Threads in the General and Q & A Forums. This will help you a lot.

Now i must chose the kernel ?Wich one should i chosee?
When its time to install clockworkmod ?
Will u help me step by step please?

There are a very few steps for you to install CM9/CM10.
1. On your computer, search for "Odin3 1.85" on Google. The first link should be an XDA link which will directly download Odin3. Unzip it and execute the Odin .exe file.
2. Now search "how to install cm7 captivate wiki", click the second link and scroll down to see "WARNING: INSTALLING A CUSTOM RECOVERY IMAGE ON THE SAMSUNG CAPTIVATE WILL VOID THE WARRANTY." Below that you can download mtcarey's Kernel with ClockworkMod Recovery 5.
3. Put your Captivate in Download mode. To do this, turn it off, hold both volume up and down buttons and plug the phone to your computer. You will probably need Samsung Galaxy S drivers to make the computer to recognize the phone. (I'm not sure about the link, I'll try to get it later)
4. In Odin, make sure the phone is added in the Message box. Click PDA and choose the CWM kernel .tar file you just downloaded. Make sure that ONLY "Auto Reboot" and "F. Reset Time" are checked and then click start. Your phone will reboot shortly!
5. You now have a custom recovery in your phone, which will allow you to install any custom ROM. Unplug your phone, remove the battery and put it back on. Hold both volume buttons and the power button to make your phone to boot into Recovery mode. Plug the phone back and in the recovery, navigate to Mounts and Storage with volume buttons. Press Power to select. Now press Mount USB Storage to mount the phone to your computer.
6. Go to get.cm website and find "captivatemtd" in the left section. There you can download the latest CM10 nightly and put it into your phone! Be patient for the download. On your computer, eject your phone, unmount it in recovery and you can unplug it. Navigate to Install zip from SD card, choose zip and find the ROM you downloaded. Wait for it to finish and that's it, enjoy Android Jelly Bean!
Note that your recovery is now ClockworkMod Recovery 6. You can keep this recovery or install another kernel if you want. Search for "captivate android development" on Google, open the XDA link and find a thread that begins with [Kernel][JellyBean] like Devil and Semaphore kernels.

Why stop at ICS? You can go with one of the JB ROM's recently released, I started my flashing experiences with ICS, settled on the SlimICS version and have been upgrading with every new release they've posted

After installing CM9 or 10 The phone uses the kernel of the Rom installed?
Iv read a lot of guides
Yours and one of the member korockinout13 was the simplest ones
Yours use odin and the other heimdall
All the guides are the same and in the finish all have same result?

I hope I helped you and you didn't have any issues!
I suppose they have the same result. The kernel installed in a CyanogenMod ROM comes with the original CWM recovery but I don't think this is a stock ICS/JB kernel.
You can use Heimdall or Odin, maybe the features are different but I'm used to Odin.

I havent tried yet
In the moment i install the kernel in PDA on Odin this makes possible the recovery mode when the phone is powered on with volume buttons?

yes, by flashing a CWM rom, you will be able to backup and restore your current rom as well as flash new roms, by using the three button startup.
if you do the three button startup with your existing non-CWM rom, you will get a simple stock recovery menu but it won't let you do much. hope this helps.

I'm not sure you're right. If your flash the kernel I described (Corn kernel I think), you will then be able to boot into CWM recovery and make a backup. If you want to only backup your apps or SMS, use Titanium Backup. You will need to have root permissions to do this. Go on androidsu dot com slash superuser and download Superuser 3.2 RC3 for ARM devices. You will have to flash it in recovery mode.

I must use speedmod kernel before installing cm9 or cm10?

No, unless this is the kernel I told you to download in step 2 (mtcarey's kernel). Flash this one and you will be able to flash CyanogenMod. The phone will probably reboot the recovery when you will start flashing. If the installation doesn't resume automatically, just reflash the zip and you're done.

I got it

Cyanogen mod only "wants" the "mtcarey's Kernel" ?

Fix Vibrant 4G Clockword recovery Mod and use ROM Manager for Backup and ROM Flashing

I am modifying this post removing some steps:
Note that you can always go back to orignal Odin ROM using Vibrant Download Mode in the link below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=978836
You should know what you are doing, otherwise I am not reponsible for any device brick.
1- Use SuperOneClick 1.7 to gain root (USB debugging enabled).
Open SuperOneClick and run Shell Root with your phone plugged in.
Use Rage option, then once done, reboot the phone and verify root using "Root Checker" from the Market.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
2. Download "3e_recovery_installer.zip" from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833423
run the 3e Recovery Installer. When finished, close.
3. Flash ClockWorkMod Recovery via ROM Manager from market by selecting "Vibrant" when asked for phone type. Then reboot into recovery. (You may need to reboot your phone if you get stuck on the ROM Manager "Reboot to Recovery" screen) (Just reboot, then attempt to reboot into recovery again)
At the blue recovery select "reinstall packages". The first time will fail, run it once more, and you should now have the green CWM Recovery menu.
4. Install Kernel Flasher from the Market and backup the kernel.
5. use Rom Manager to flash Data and Dalvik init.d-busybox with data to SD update.zip to fix Data and Dalvik init.d-busybox from below link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=744655
6- When finshed you should be able to backup and restore the ROM using Rom Mananger.

Any help would be appreciated here.

I tried using Odin to flash to stock and I'm still unable to get data connection unless I connect to Wifi.
I sure hope you modified the SD Fix.....
That fix was created by Eugene and I to fix mounting for the Vibrant. If flashed to a 4G, it'll break.
I wouldn't recommend this method at all, this looks risky. Just wait for krylon or koush to come out with a proper release of cwm. I have offered to lend my phone to either of them and im sure as soon as either one has the time they will get it going.
I don't like doing things half ass, and while the work is appreciated i wouldn't recommend this guide to the average user as i lost my first 4g to a similar guide.

Yes, Step 5 was created by us to allow both Internal and External SD to auto mount to the phone and PC on the VIBRANT.
We had to modify the stock 4G files to allow this due to the 4G only having a external SD.
For now, I'm reporting this thread due to it being just like the last "CWM for Vibrant works on the 4G" thread which caused bricks, which resulted in me having to create the ODIN image for everyone.
Please do not jump the gun. Be patient.

[SOLVED] Soft Brick - Flash to stock ROM with Odin?

Yesterday I was unable to turn on my phone. It loads the normal bootscreen, then the T-Mobile startup animation plays. It gets stuck at the huge S on the screen. A lot of people suggest flashing through Odin, but I'm not familiar with doing that. I saw the "[Solution Thread] Step by Step on how to flash any Gingerbread ROM.", but my device is froyo, and I just want to stay with stock ROM. I imagine I just follow the steps, except substitute stock with step 3. Where can I download the stock ROM though?
Thanks. I probably missed a thread explaining exactly what I'm asking, but if anyone could deal with a noob like me who knows nothing, that'd be greatly appreciated.
UPDATE: I did some goggling and found this. It looks pretty reliable, but can someone approve it for me? I'd rather not screw up my device:

c) "super one click"
d) "kies mini"
2) Open Odin on your computer

Lol you may be stock GB with froyo bootloaders. You can't root 2.3.3 and up that way. The exploit is gone since it was used to push malware top Android phones. Not super one click, the exploit it uses to work.
Since att gingerbread bootloaders aren't available you need to either Odin flash a stock ROM and start from scratch (lame, no need to go back to stock unless you prefer a stock ROM)or Odin (heimdall is what I actually prefer) flash a custom kernel with a rainbow fix (all of the GB kernels out now have this) to fix recovery and install cwm (this also roots you, way easier than the stupid one click, recover, cwm run around).
If you see rainbows then how did you"flash a rooted ROM" I don't get how you flashed anything.

[Q] Samsung Captivate Build 1010

I have a captivate build 1010 and I'm having trouble getting Cyanogen on it. I read around and saw things ahout how if I am running Froyo(which I am), then I can't do anything with clockwork. My main question is: Can someone point me in the direction of how to flash cyanogen 7 to my phone and if needed, how to go back to stock, since I read that Odin one click bricks 1010 phones?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
How are you having trouble? I have a 1010 and I'm on CM7. Just follow the installation instructions on either two CM7 threads. Download cyanogen, put it on your internal SD. Root phone and get ROM Manager (from Android market) and install clockwork. There's a slightly easier way, but I'm just old fashion. If you want me to help ya more, just message me and post more details.

You need to flash one of the GB leak firmwares (like uckj3) then flash a kernel with CWM (like Boogs or Samurai) then you put the CM7 file on your phone and flash it from there. If you need to go back to stock ATT firmware I would recommend flashing something without bootloaders.
Just flash a kernel with cwm in it ,boot into recovery and flash the zip.

My problem is that I don't know how to flash a Build 1010 phone. Each time I try booting into Clockwork, I get the default Android Recovery screen. And when pressing "Reinstall Packages" I get something about a "Signature verification failed". I was told this is because I'm on Official 2.2 Froyo, and I have to go back to stock, but that's where I'm stuck, since most people I've run into told me Odin bricks 1010's
The Odin one click to jf6 might soft brick (boot loop actually)a 1010 phone. You can still use Odin v1.3and v1.8 (what some call Full Odin).

Do you think you can link me to a guide on using either of those to go to stock or whatever I should be doing to get cm7?
Search. There are st least half a dozen threads in the past 2 Weeks that can walk you through it.
You may want to consider Heimdall (a different type of flashing utility). There is a one click for KB2, which shouldn't cause problems.
Use the button combos do enter download mode and flash any captivate kernel that has cwm through odin or heimdall. After that enter recovery and flash your zip. Theres lots of guides on just use the search button for using odin ir heimdall

I have a 10.10 build and have used Odin many times, one click to stock, odin3 for other roms ect. You might lose the ability to do a 3 button combo to get to download/recovery, so its good to have a jig.

Don't worry about flashing a rooting/flashing a kernel etc just
1. download this: http://download.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-2.5.1.2-captivate.zip
2. rename it to update.zip
3. put it on the root of your phones build in SD storage
4. either use 'adb reboot recovery' from the command line with the phone plugged in to your pc (if you have the android sdk), or turn off the device and hold volume up and volume down and press/hold the power button until the screen flashes on.
5. select 'apply update.zip' from the stock recovery, using the volume keys to navigate and the power button to select.
6. the phone will reboot, and you'll be in stock recovery once more, select 'apply update.zip' again, and you should be in clockworkmod recovery.
7. reboot the phone and download the appropriate CM7 zip, and gapps and places them on the root of your phones sd storage.
8. boot back into recovery (should be clockworkmod now, if not apply update.zip again) using method 4.
9. select flash zip from sd card (not update.zip)
10. choose cm7 zip, and confirm. the phone will reboot and finish the install.

[Q] Help using CWM!

Hello,
today I tried to put CWM on my old Galaxy fit using this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19204364 so then I could upgrade it and then install a ROM, I did the Odin Multidownloader process and it looked like it worked, but I wanted to test it and I didn't know how to use the CWM I just installed, so I went to ROM Manager and from there I tried to do the CWM Recovery option and when it started to reboot, it got like stuck in the Samsung logo and some kind of bootloop, the only thing I can do is press the home-volume up-power button so I can go to the Downloading... screen.
What can I do?
Does anyone know?
Thanks
I would recommend using download mode and Odin to flash a stock Rom. Once u do that and root ur phone again I suggest getting twrp. Seems to work better for me and easy to install.,

Which version of cwm did you install?
Installing Stock Roms
First, download the stock rom of your choice from samfirmware.com
Then download beni.ops and Odin Multidownloader
Remove the sim card and memory card of your phone, and put it in download mode
Next, run Odin, and connect your phone to your windows computer. Odin should respond as detected. Then, select “Ops” as beni.ops. (Doing this would disable all other fields except “One Package”)
After this, select your desired stock rom in “One Package”.
Do not alter any other option other than those mentioned, let them remain as they are.
Make sure that the color of “COM PORT MAPPING” is yellow, and then click “Start”.
Odin will start giving different responses, and the timer in Odin would also start…now all you have to do is wait till Odin completes flashing (You will get a message “Pass”, usually within 10 minutes)
Note: Do not disconnect you phone while the process is on, and till you get that “Pass” message.
After this, it is optional but advised that you reboot into recovery mode and wipe data, otherwise you *may* face bootloops.[/list]

Question 1: can you enter recovery!? By holding power + home buttons.
Question 2: are you sure you downloaded the correct ROM from the Samsung ROMs website (the correct ROM means the latest link from your carrier).
Edit: don't forget to take out the USB cable after the flashing is done.
Depending on your answer:
Try to redo the procedure without installing custom recovery (just flash thru download mode via Odin the downloaded ROM for your device) and see if it boots (first boot takes a long time so just wait.
If you're trying to install ONLY the cwm recovery be sure you are getting the one meant for beni (other will not work).

CWM recovery and Stock Rom are totally different things.
To install a custom recovery you need a stock ROM installed first... Get it!?

Here you can get stock ROM :
http://terafile.co/64475c2f7787/S5670XXKPY_S5670SERKPY_SER.zip
Be sure you follow the instructions in Odin.
Are you sure you can't get in recovery with home + power!? Seems strange. Try to reinstall CWM recovery thru download mode then try to get into recovery mode. You can find more than five Odin flash able recoveries in XDA for fit. Try all.
Good luck!

That's why seems odd he can't get in recovery mode. From what I understand:
1. He flashed stock ROM (or he tried to)
2. Then he tried to flash CWM recovery and now gets bootloop at Samsung screen.
Actually this happened to me once and I had to reflash stock ROM first then cwm recovery thru Odin.

Thanks... However I don't think the guy wants 6045 recovery, but 5 version.
Anyway, it seems we are more interested in this than he is, so... Happy flashing.

Ok, sorry, I forgot to give an update during the weekend (and sorry, I was interested... but I didn't have time to give the update ) :
1.- I wanted to get CWM 5 and I tried to reboot, but I got that bootloop (I anyways wanted the CWM 6.0.4.5 version because I heard it is better)
2.- I finally got the stock rom using Sammobile.
3.- I flashed the stock rom to get rid of that annoying bootloop.
4.- I got CWM 5 with Odin
6.- Updated CWM to the 6.0.4.5 version.
7.-I got Cyanogenmod 10.1.4 version
I actually was able to get into recovery mode, but the thing is that I didn't know how to get into it... lol
I am doing this as an experimet because I don't use the Fit as a phone, so... what should I do next?
Anyways; thank you all for your help, ahmetakin and johnny.

Well now on your phone is 6045 recovery which works ONLY with Cyanogenmod 11. Go to yajnab's thread and download the alpha5. Put it on your SD and flash though recovery mode (recovery mode : keep power + middle button "home" pressed until you enter recovery mode). Wipe data, cache and dalvik (Dalvik from advanced). Press install from SD card and navigate to where you put the zip downloaded earlier. Select it.... Wait... Wait.... After that wait some more... Then you can enjoy CM11 aka KitKat.
If you want a different ROM (cm7 - cm10.2) flash an older custom recovery and do the same as above.
Flashing is simple and practice makes it perfect. After all you have a Fit for spare.
Remember that different ROMs might have different flashing instructions so ALWAYS read the OP in the ROMs thread.
Enjoy!

Have you installed your ROM using 6045 cwm recovery!? Or you installed the 6045 recovery after installing ROM!?
Yajnab says:
Code:
This Recovery will only support Ext4, Ext3 or Ext2 formatted Custom ROMs.
No RFS support has been included here.
So dont come with the issues when having any stock ROM or stock based RFS custom ROM installed.
The Device wont boot up
So, honestly I didn't tried to install other rom than cm11 on this recovery.
