I succeeded to root my Star S7180
Look for
"Cwm Recovery S7100 by Angelobiz"
and flash it using the last part of this manual "MT6577 CWMR Root Updated V2"
Then you can boot into the clockwork mod and install a "su" root zip.

If it is a Star / HDC / UPAI Note 2 clone also known as a N7100+ S7100 and S7180 then there is a spanish forum which has instructions and fixed versions of the stock rom
http://www.movilesdualsim.com/foro/forums/128-N7100-S7180
there is a moderator there who has deodexed and fixed some of the problems with the stock rom
Installing and flashing CWM for this phone is not for the faint of hearted. Using the MTK flash tool and creating your own scatter flash file and even your own up to date CWM is advisable. There is a thread on here which explains how to do the flashing and creating your own CWM recovery.
Or you use the CWM by the spanish forum and their instructions
good luck!

OK, I've looked on the spanish forums and I really cant get my head around it. Ive had some rooting experience via Odin when rooting my HTC One X and Galaxy S3 but nothing like this. Anyone care to do a guide in proper English as opposed to google's translated guide? Ideally I want to gain root access and install an improved rom. The one which is installed with the phone is pretty lame.
Thanks guys, any help appreciated
Matt

s7180
Further to my last post, if this is any good I keep getting the following error when I try to flash recovery.img to the handset:
BROM ERROR : S_FT_NEED_DOWNLOAD_ALL_FAIL (4050)
Need download all images!
.................I havent a clue what the hell that means. Grr, its doing my nut in

I tried translating the spanish forum to no avail.
I also tried using the method for the NT6577 chipset, nadda.
Any help would be appreciated

It would appear that your the only one who has managed to root yours. Please would you mind compiling an idiots guide for us noobs If I can get Clockwork mod on the phone I think I could probably figure the rest out.
Much obliged
Matt

Thanks for the pointers guys, I was unable to escape the bootloader!

its not a guide as such but might help in giving more pointers.
I managed to replace the existing recovery and replace it with my own generated CWM recovery.
In order to do this I followed this guide!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1923764 which has a link to a tutorial
I went and installed the droid kitcen and MT6577 plugin as well in order to create my own recovery as that was my prefference. use any files of the internet at your own risk or lower the risk and DIY it!
This is curtesy of yuweng who did all the hard work writing it up.
Regarding to my phone which is classed as an S7180 or N7100+
I found this website
http://gt35pro-mobile-gadgets.blogspot.co.uk/2012/12/hdc-s7100-note-2-is-now-renamed-hdc.html
He also gives out the links to which packages to download inlcuding a CWM recovery.
**************************** disclaimer *************
Don't use a scatter file that you did not create using the tools that yuweng is referencing to in his thread and tutorial!!!!!!!!!
if you use the wrong scatter file you flash the recovery into the wrong section of memory and therefore run at a HUGE risk of bricking the phone
***************************** disclaimer end *************
In essence the order I did things in
Backed up my original recovery using the Flashtool
Created my own CWM recovery using the Android Kitchen which needs the MT6577 tool and plugin installing as a mod (search XDA for the guide as to hoto do the install and yuweng also has a tutorial on how to add the MT6577 recovery generation for this)
Using MTK Droid tools to generate my own scatter file. ( a scatter file is like a memory map as to where the start and is and in this case the map for the CWM)
then using the Flash tool i flashed it using my scatter and my previously created CWM. See yuweng tutorial.
Again Gregg has provided a CWM, I can't comment on it as I never tried it.
anyway the moment i had CWM, I flashed the ROM that was on that blog page. Which came of the spanish forum originally. And they are now on version 1.2 las time I looked. 1.0 fixes a few things, i am using 1.1 as 1.2 removed the touchwiz look a like launcher and my 3D sheep widget
TIPS
* Driver installation is crucial to succesfully flashing with the FlashTool
- Switch phone off and remove the battery, then plug it in. Complete that driver install
- Re-insert battery and check without booting it you will notice that it does not have the same behaviour as with battery...very odd...still do it just in case
-boot it up and once ready put it in USB debug mode and connect usb lead and let the driver install complete
* READ THE TUTORIALS - Seriously i spent 1/2 day nonstop checking things
* Don't do this if you are not sure about what you are doing at all.
* Check your scatter file values for where the recovery is going to be flashed at least 4 times before commiting them into the flashtool. It pays to be safe!!
* Dont get freaked out by Hex values when you put them into the flashtool. if it looks wrong then check again. Only when you press the download button in the flashtool with your phone attached will it start.

stupid question

Hey everyone,
After spending hours toiling through the different methods listed above (thanks to everyone for posting those), I've found a much simpler way to root the S7100, not sure about the other ones.
Go to:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2130276
and download the Framaroot 1.6.1 .apk to you phone. Install it, and wham, rooted. Or at least thats how simple it was for me: Hope it works for anyone else trying to root.
Note: This root exploit also works on many other types of phones as the thread explains.
It doesn't install the recovery or anything, but it's certainly a start.
Specs about the phone:
Model Number: e1901_v77_jdt1_9p017_fwvga
Android Version: 4.1.2
Baseband Version: MAUI.11AMD.W12.22.SP.V15,2012/10/08 20:22
Build Number: e1901_v77_jdt1_9p017_fwvga_2013088

Hi,
I saw the phone also on dx.com and bought it I just told myself it's quit cheap so I'll try it. And I have to say it's perfect. I'm not sure if you can root it. But why it should not work? If you have any question, just ask me, I'll try to answer you...

thanks in advance!

Dear Members,
If you need a Bedove X21 cwm recovery, I made one based on bgcngm scripts and you can reach it here.
This is the second version, with proper product information (derived from stock rom)
Original Rom dump needed for Bedove X21 ICS 4.0.9 / Wayestar A822 JB 4.1.2
How r u doing guys?
Just bricked my Bedove x21 ICS 4.0.9 trying to root it.
I'm trying to use the SP Flash Tool v3.1236.0.sn43 (available at the dropbox link at the first page of the "Tutorial sobre como instalar ROM rooteada y con Gapps Bedove x12" - google it!)
I've managed to flash a Zopo ROM in META Mode (Vol Up + Power, while connecting to USB port, after pressing Download button in the SP Flash Tool).
The trick is to change the Options>DA Download All>Speed to "Do Not Switch Speed" in the SP Flash Tool before clicking on the Download button.
Unfortunately, my Bedove X21 still bricked.
The only thing I need to put it working is a complete RomDump of Bedove X21 which I don't have.
This is a good guide to do it: http : //d-h.st/d8a
It shall work with the bedove x21 mt6577 as well...
I've just noticed that it might also exist a JB 4.1.2 version of Bedove X21, re-branded as Wayestar A822.
Is it possible to make one or both Factory ROMs available somehow?
The JB 4.1.2 might be a good update!
Pls help!
Thanks
Did someone manage to root Bedove X21 with JB4.1.2?
Root many devices and mtk droidtools are NOT working on the JB firmware.
If someone does find a way, please share. Thx in advance.

I've ordered a Bedove X21 in China and waiting for delivery.
Not sure about rooting yet but will try when delivered.
Can you tell me were to find JB4.1.2 ROM you're talking about ?
Stock Android is 4.0.9 so probably you found a better ROM.
I have bought two of these phones. One came with stockrom jb 4.1.2 and no known root methods are working. The other one had ics 4.0.9 and rooting that one was a piece of cake.
So to answer your question : the jellybean rom was preinstalled and as long the phone is not rooted I wont be able to share the rom with you guys.
In case you have the jb rom too when your phone arrives and you find a succesfull and safe rooting method, it would be greatly appreciated if you'd share your findings.
Thx in advance.

Perhaps you can make a Nandroid backup of the JB ROM using the following steps:
01. Download Fastboot:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/54398839/Fastboot+ADB(20206).zip
02. Unpack 'Fastboot+ADB(20206).zip'
03. Connect USB cable
04. Hold the Volume+ and Power button until it vibrates and shows you a menu.
Select 'Fastboot' using Volume+ button.
Press Volume- button to confirm.
05. Open cmd window and goto directory \Fastboot+ADB(20206)
06. Type the following command and press enter:
fastboot boot CWM-6.0.2.8_Acer-E1.img
07. Device will now boot to CWM
I used this method to create a Nandroid backup of my wife's Acer Liquid E1 before rooting or changing stock recovery.
Perhaps it works for the Bedove X21 or you can try to use another .img as recovery file.

How exactly did you do it?
I mean, did you have to enter download mode (pushing the power button plus volume up/down, whatever) or removing the battery before?
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: I did it!! I installed the proper ADB drivers on a Windows (>_<) XP PC and, using Bin4ry's Rooting method, I succeeded to root it!!
Now I don't know what to do because I ordered a Star B94M / B943 Quadcore with plenty of ROMs ready to be flashed because I thought that I couldn't root my Bedove X21... anyway, if someone tried to flash a ROM and succeeded in doing so, please comment. Maybe not everything is lost and we can squeeze more our Bedove X21

I think that the way of flashing it is using some Flash tools or something like that, isn't it?

[Q] K-Touch Hornet II V9

Hello dear XDA-developers,
I am thinking of buying a new phone, so i came across this phone called the "K-Touch Hornet II V9", it is a Chinees phone. and I couldn't find it on xda-developers.com.
So I was wondering if it is possible to have a Custom Rom installed on it.
Maybe to create my own Custom Rom with this toolbox:http://www.xda-developers.com/andro...stallation-with-android-ultimate-toolbox-pro/
I have a technical background so I guess this should be manageable for me to understand.
Anyways hope to get some reactions on this topic.
Cheers, and many thnxs in advanced,
DesireDroid
Ps.: I currently have a HTC Desire (classic) and rooted that one. and installed some custom roms on it. like the Leedroid custom rom:
Hello,
I am interesting in your request because i have the same device.
Could you tell me if you found anything about an alternative ROM for the "K-Touch Hornet II V9" ?
Regards
ROM found
I've found a ROM (Cyanogen 10.1) at the following web site (i can't post a link due to my too young status) : needrom (add www end dot com )
Then add the following path : /mobile/k-touch-v9-2/

[GUIDE] SMART FIRST 6 V695 (vodafone) -Unbrick,Restore,Custom Rom&More- MTK6572(M)

PLEASE NOTE _ THREAD BEING ACTIVELY EDITED [email protected] _
SMART FIRST 6 V695 MTK6572(M)
(vodafone)
Unbrick - Restore - Custom Roms - Root & More
I'M NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY POSSIBLE DAMAGE DONE TO YOUR DEVICE AS A RESULT OF FLASHING!
So, I bricked a vodafone smart first 6 trying to root it (latest update is unrootable at the moment - or a whole lot of messing about if it can be). So I managed to flash a rom and get it all working.
Vodafone do not release a rom for this model so its more or less impossible to unbrick or repair it without the below methods, this will basically turn the Vodafone Smart First 6 into a Alcatel OneTouch Pixi 3 4. Way better in my opinion as it has full official alcatel support for original firmware, root, custom recovery and custom roms. Dual sim also still supported.
So, your phone is a Smart First 6?, Right?. Well it's basically the same as an Alcatel OneTouch Pixi 3 4. So we flash the files for the pixi 3 4 and we can unbrick the phone, but then the phone will be a pixi 3 4. Hope that all makes sense!.
Vodafone Smart First 6 specs; GSMARENA
Alcatel OneTouch Pixi 3 4 specs; GSMARENA
Pixi 3 4 3014D is the firmware we are applying - btw the 4 in pixi 3 4 just means 4" as in screen size - pixi 3 4"
Specs are identical so we can can flash Pixi 3 4 rom onto a vodafone smart first 6. pixi 3 4 stock is definately alot better than the vodafone stock rom, then being able to flash custom roms, improving the device even more.
LINKS TO OTHER XDA THREADS IN RELATION TO THIS GUIDE
Below are links to related guides in xda that contain information regarding this device.
XDA thread by Menroid - whole lot of messing in my opinion and did not work for me - good thread all the same -
XDA thread by kirito9 - Alcatel OneTouch Pixi Thread - very useful, move onto this once you've finished with my thread I guess - stock & custom roms and root for the Pixi 3 4 (your new phone! . . . or your phones new firmware! . . . :silly:!)
Now . . . . . . .
Tools Required
SPFlash Tool, Rom, preloader and scatter file (all files for restore basically); MEGA LINK
(instructions are for this version of SPFlash Tool - do not use a newer version with this guide unless you do not need to follow the instructions)
Alcatel Mobile Upgrade Tool; MEGA LINK
Drivers
drivers can be found in this thread as VCOM, Micromax Drivers or use the PDANet link -THREAD LINK
Restore Device
(well . . . flash pixi 3 4 firmware to repair vodafone smart first 6)
- Install Drivers!!
- Download and unpack rom zip
- Start SPFlash Tool, select scatter-loading, load scatter file from rom folder
- Go to drop-down menu "Window", select "Write Memory", new tab appears
- Go to new tab, "Open Raw Data", open ROM_0 File, Select under "Memory setting" EMMC
- Edit the HEX address
- Begin address : 0x0000000000000000 , Container Length : 0x77500000
- Press "Write memory", connect powered off phone to cable, remember.....to flash with spflash tool.....take battery out and plug phone to pc via usb...flashing on this device is done without the battery in the phone....wait to finish
- After done, reconnect battery, check if phone power on
- If not, return to "Download" Tab, and flash just preloader
- Check if power on, and enter Recovery mode if so
- From recovery, do Wipe Data / Cache , then reboot
- Wait for first start, it takes longer time to boot.
- All done.
Now the device has Pixi 3 4" 4013D firmware.
This method has now flashed pixi 4" firmware and effectively made the phone into a pixi 3 4" model.
The flashed rom was a backup of a working rom so if you want full stock restore, go ahead and restore it with Alcatel Official Mobile Upgrade Tool. Remember the model is 4013 - needs selecting in Mobile Upgrade Tool.
Custom Roms, Custom Recovery (TWRP), Root & More . . .
Follow kirito9's thread and his thread links as linked above as you no longer have a Vodafone Smart First 6, it is now a Alcatel OneTouch Pixi 3 4" with 4013(D) firmware
ANY PROBLEMS? . . . - I'M HAPPY TO HELP

So, once we have done this how do we root?
Nice! There's no SPFlash in the rar? I used SP_Flash_Tool_v3.1344.0.212.rar from http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/rooting-roms/tutor-how-to-root-star-g9000-galaxy-s5-t2913488 and the VCOM / Micromax Drivers - worked perfectly, thanks!

Hi. I will update file but yes..you got the right spflash tool. Glad i helped.
Head over too kirito9's thread and get the latest root twrp cuatom roms and more for the pixi 3 4
Kingroot wouldn't work for me (just caused a bootloop and had to start again). http://forum.xda-developers.com/and...4-official-t3193624/post65706654#post65706654 did the job, but as mentioned in the thread, I had to use "SP Flash Tool MOD (Gets rid of most errors)" from the first post of the thread.

EDIT: Ignore this for now, just seen http://forum.xda-developers.com/and...4-official-t3193624/post65706654#post65706654 (somehow missed that the first time), trying now.
I couldn't succeed with kingroot after the SPFlash stage. I have a stock 4013 from a VF695, but applying kingroot either via PC or apk results in a bootloop (wipes don't help) and I have to redo the SPFlash to get a working phone again. Strangely, when I connect the phone to the internet it says there is an update available, but that I can't apply it because the phone is rooted... but it isn't rooted for any apps that I try.
Any suggestions for rooting and then installing a custom recovery?

For me, kingroot forced a reboot... guess you got lucky, but the other method above worked for me

Wasn't sure if it was rebooting or crashing for me tbh so disabled internet to stop it running updates while kingroot was working.

Hi. Kingroot works...if it reboots just start the app again when phone starts and you will see it carries on doing the root from the % it was at when it restarted phone.

So, on to my next issue...
The "dirty" flash seems to be changing the built in MAC address for WiFi and BT to 3c:cb:7c:3f:cd:a6 and :a5 repetitively. Any idea where this is being set? I still have the original MACs, but I don't know if I can edit anything to change them back permanently?
I ended up editing /data/nvram/APCFG/APRDEB/WIFI and then setting to read-only and it seems to have worked... now whether I should do that... who knows!

Hi. Im not sure tbh. The mac address' may change but I've not noticed any faults with it being changed. Wifi and bluetooth work on my flash as expected.

The problems come when you have more than one on the same network.
Nice!
Ehm nice to see an less hectic Guide for the Smart First! I made an Quick entry and exit when i found Kirito9's Thread
Rooting before was Hit and Miss and same for Recovery, but The Pixi thread made me dive deeper understanding more about MTK Devices....sweet!
Testing the 4G now
Keep up the good work & see ya around!
Ps. you can take my Thread link down, because there are more stable ways to do all that.
I will link your Thread via mine so people can be safer!

Hey Menroid, Glad I could help, your post helped but like we agree it is a little hit and miss, i got root but then it unroots on reboot. I will take link down for your thread and you link mine as yours still gets the hits and results at top on search sites like google, etc.
Keep up the contributions too mate.
Does the GPS work on the phone when following this guide? I cant seem to get the GPS to pick up a signal anymore
Hi,
I flashed the memory using SP Flash Tool, and the green tick appeared so I guess it worked ok.
I then went to flash the preloader and I get the following error:
"4032 – BROM ERROR : S_FT_ENABLE_DRAM_FAIL (4032) [EMI] Enable DRAM fail"
Here's a screenshot:
hxxp://i.imgur.com/9DW88qp.png
(swap the xx for tt)
The phone will not turn on or respond to anything, please help, thanks
EDIT: I've got the original firmware backed up, I tried to restore that using SP Flash and I get the same error, is there any way around this error?
suggest new vf695 do not use this way, my new vf695 use this one and dead, same message.
"4032 – BROM ERROR : S_FT_ENABLE_DRAM_FAIL (4032) [EMI] Enable DRAM fail"
i try many ways but not recovery. only i can do, just use it as a hardware spare part.

I managed to fix mine, restored from the Backup I created in SP flash tool. It's not rooted but at least it's working.
If you want to fix your device try restoring your backup.
I had to flash from another PC in the end, SP flash can be rather insonsistent.

Need help rooting Sky Devices Elite Octa 5.5 (MT6753)

So I got this cheap cell phone on Ebay for $50 (Sky Devices Elite Octa 5.5 with MT6753). It has great specs for that price. However, I'm now paying for it as I can't root the device.
I've tried one click tools but none of them worked. So now I'm asking the XDA community hoping that I can get some pointers.
I've found various tutorials online but they've all come to a dead end. If you find one that you think I should try, please let me know and I'll check it out.
I tried contacting the OEM but they were d-bags and refused to provide stock ROM or scatter file. Which makes me want to root it even more!
The furthest I got was I can dump about 2 GB from the device's memory to a raw file on my PC using SPF (Smart Phone Flash) Tool. One of the tutorials I found is here:
https://cmflare4guides.wordpress.com/2016/08/25/how-to-create-spft-rom-dump/
The Instructions section works but the Continuation section does not. In MTK Droid Root, the button "To process file ROM_ from FlashTool" is disabled and I can't click it.
Any ideas?
I can unlock the boot loader.
I think what I need to do is:
- "extract" the ROM that I downloaded via SPF Tools into various partitions (no idea how though)
- mount the partitions as a loop back device in Linux
- modify some file that will disable permissions on the device (allowing me to install SuperSU)
- "package" the modifications back to some ROM image
- upload the image to the device
However, I currently can't figure out what to do with the ROM_FULL that I downloaded from the device using SPF Tools.
Need Sky devices Elite 5.5 0cta (MT6753) Flash file(ROM)
Ey mate!,,hope you're doing good.. lucky I finally found your post over here. I kinda bricked that same phone when I been tryna flash a custom rom on it.
I managed to root it, had to use Miracle box( Cracked) ....side-loaded TWRP recovery via fast boot (felt like a champ:victory
but then things got wacky the moment I flashed a custom rom and now it can't even boot into any mode ,..almost scanned the whole web for its firmware but dang!, couldn't find it anywhere. If u still have that Sky Elite 5.5 Octa thing.. or the ROM,please do help a brother man, I am so in need of it...
