Hi,
Not sure if this is the correct place for this (if not, can a mod move this to the right place?).
Has anyone heard of a Amicroe Touch Tab 2?
Here are the spec:
ARM Cortex A8 1.2GHz
GPU 400MHz
512MB Ram
7" screen
Model number: AMI-TT2
I was wondering if there are any custom roms (with root) for this?
Thanks
never heard of it, but the specs seems tasty

Probably NO custom ROM yet. But rooting, have you try this? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
I just bought one of these for AUS$150.
It's got root access out of the box so no need to look for a solution.
Not had chance to play with it yet, and I have no idea about developing so I may not be any help, but if anyone has a question to ask about apps/stability,battery etc I will gladly answer.
Up to now, it's better than I would expect for a $150 device (that comes with a folio case included) but its not in the same class as a mainstream brand/model.
I've played music on it ... seems good enough to me (not Bose quality, but pretty good).
The standard media player plays my downloaded avi files without requiring codec download.
Kindle app runs smoothly enough ... not too slick, but good enough.
The screen is a little laggy but strangely not too annoying.
Like other cheap devices, you get the same double-entry problems if you type whilst plugged into the power.
It has a seperate charge point for the power adapter, but it also charges when the microUSB is plugged in which is a feature I really like and was lacking on other low-end devices I have owned.
Like I said ... happy to help if I can ... but on first impressions I would say buy one as a spare if you dont want to risk your high-end device being damaged on a road-trip or at work.
stock build.prop or nandroid backup?
Well, I've managed to brick my TouchTab II, and was wondering if anyone can please provide a copy of the stock build.prop file? I'm stuck in a reboot loop, and I'd like to try pushing the original build.prop file.
Or, if anyone has a nandroid backup of the stock ROM? Amicroe are not willing to provide the ROM for this device
Thanks in advance!!

Im able to get my hands on this:
http://android-sale.com/hdc-one-x-android-phone.html
And I pretty much have one question to determine the purchase - would it root .. ? I guess that Superoneclick would do the job, presuming that chinese people are giving USB drivers with the device, but I would like to hear from someone who maybe already tried it. Does anybody even have the device .. ?
Hi I got the other version MTK6577 dual sim 480*854 px 4GB ROM. It's already been root using the method shown here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1847136
Con:
- camera is 5MP (burst to 8MP), very cheap flash
- GPU is overclocked (eat battery a lot while playing games)
- battery quickly get hot and depleted (need to tweak juice defender for optimal use)
- no HD video recording
- digitizer is plastic
- low signal/wifi reception
Hey,
I think with these Chinese ripoffs, you are likely to have quite a few issues.
- Little support from XDA as not many would have it
- Not that reliable as it has to cut back somewhere
- No professional judgement seeing as no one has experience with it.
I would not recommend getting them.
Anyway, they usually run some sort of stock android with a pathetic overlay so I think that you will be able to root.
Thanks
Hit thanks if you found this useful.
I just ordered the Acer Iconia A700. I have the a100 and was very pleased with it. I have it rooted unlocked bootloader with a stock ICS rom. I also did the internal/external sd card swap. I bought the a700 because we have just about maxed out the Viewsonic G tab and it is only a tegra 2 with 512mb of ram and 800x600 screen.and I wanted to upgrade to bigger and better. I hope I have not made a mistake because of the over heating issues but, from what I have read the JB update supposedly eased this some. Can someone update me on this? Thanks

The JB update appears to have eased the overheat issue a little for a lot of users. At least on my 701. Some users still experience it though.
I've noticed this.
1. Lessened overheat after doing the OTA
2. Overheat back after rooting.
3. Installed 1st revision modified RW boot.img. Overheat same.
4. Adjusted strings in 2nd revision modified RW boot.img, and overheat lessened.
My feeling, is that when you root the device, overheating increases. Not really confirmed, but am guessing based on my own experience.

Thanks MD
BTW, what would be a good test to see how hot the a700 gets?

Well, 2 things you can do.
1. Play the real racing2 game that comes with it for about an hour. Check the temp with a cpu temp widget os system tuner, setCpu, or the likes.
2. Use Set CPU and run repetitive stress tests several times. The problem with the stress test though, is that is puts 100% stress on the entire system, which is really not a good daily use indicator, but you can check the temp from there.
I wouldn't worry about it though.

I recently brought a cheap android tablet (JLAB PRO-7) from Staples on Black Friday. Has anyone flashed a rom or did anything with this particular tablet?
I tried rooting it even though it came partly rooted and now evey time it is cut off or it reboots it is back to as if it came straight out the box. Do any one have any idea on a fix for this?

Glad someone else is looking to root JLAB also!
I am desperately looking for info on this also. You left out the biggest surprise and annoyance with this low-end tablet...NO ABILITY TO MOVE APPS TO THE SD CARD!!! This thing is running 4.4.2 for Chris sake! After OS install, you only have 5GB internal memory. I put a 32GB card on it in order to shuffle off the app memory hogs and I can't even use it!!! <calming down...>
As a result, I get "insufficient memory available" errors for many programs. And some won't even consider the tablet for install. I know you get what you pay for, but the specs on this thing aren't awful. It just needs a decent OS on it. I tried loading into the bootloader once and almost bricked it. When rebooted, the "JLAB" opening screen came up and just stayed there...forever. I finally had to leave it on overnight to completely run down the battery to get it back from the abyss.
Please, if anyone has this thing and is able to put a decent rooted OS on it, post it here. Thank you!
+1 any headway?
I got one for xmas from a friend... I was able to root it with kingo root tool for windows.
I hope this helps.
Make sure debug mode is on in developers options.
To enable this mode clicking the "build number" a few times in system settings.
It rooted my device but i ran into a few issues. First every time the device does a full restart it makes me do the welcome wizard also
(unsure if my defective or not) my wifi signal becomes extremely weak even though i am sitting next to the router.
Kewlz now that we have root all we need is a custom recovery. Id be willing to test out a recovery if someone wants to make one.
I found out the all these cheap tablets are rebraned the manufactor is trio they also sell tablets under their own name.
For the love of God please make a room for this. It's often rebranded please let us know if it works with some other room.

I also rooted my Pro 7 using KingoRoot and am now facing the issue of a factory reset every time the device restarts or powers off/powers on. Were you, or anyone else able to solve this problem? Thanks!
I did not resolve the issue. I returned the thing and got my money back. There are much better options out there then this cheapo thing.
There are definitely better options but it was free on cyber Monday at tiger direct. It will be a decent tablet for my young son if I'm able to get it sorted.

I agree with you. But logically it's been a year and these China tablets see no dev love. Unless you know the inners of android OS... I wouldn't suggest it because you will be taking on issues like this alone. ebay the Toshiba Thrive. They are really cheap now and run so much better. If i remember right someone made custom kitkat for it. It's really durable and strong perfect for a kid.

It's been several years since I had an android device but I go the same black friday deal and figured that it would be a great ereader (free). Now I need a little more room so I'm trying to root but both kingo and king root failed for me.. Any ideas? I'm on a mac running windows through a VM but I don't think that is the issue.
Your version is obviously newer as this thread was made last Xmas. As I stated these devices have little to no support so finding a working root would be hard. Your computers os shouldn't matter. If you want an easy root return the device and get a name brand device.
I had the misfortune of buying this POS buggy tablet. It has been a consistent pain. The volume is barely audible even at max, its runnung 4.2.2, the micro usb socket is recessed so deep that it is practically impossible to use, screen has dead zobes and so on. I paid almost $300 for it and it has retina resolution - hence the need to salvage it if possible
So can someone please advise if it is possible to install software from another similar tablet having similar hardware specs? Will it help or most likely performance will remain the sane as it us now?
Thanks in advance for your time and any suggestions or tips.

Android is typically built for the specific hardware it is installed on. Stock firmwares and ROMs from one model number can't be used on another model number. 99% of the time, that bricks devices. If you want to flash something from a different device then I suggest you try porting it to work on your model number, don't just flash it.
I DO NOT PROVIDE HELP IN PM, KEEP IT IN THE THREADS WHERE EVERYONE CAN SHARE
Thanks for the explanation. I was wondering why bad tablets are not reloaded with well known brands' software but your explanation cleared it for me
This was a PM for @timduru but it wouldn't send.. So here it is for anyone and everyone that can help.
I'm thinking of replacing the nand on the tf700.. Can you help me source the right pin compatible chip? .. I don't have big plans for the tab, I only use it to read books and watch movies.. But the lag bugs me and I want to attempt the chip replacement job. I'm totally clueless as to the fastest chip that could be supported with the right pin configuration.
But I'm hopeful i could drop something beastly and perhaps give it a ram upgrade if the RAM is a separate and easily source-able chip.
I believe the fastboot mode along with the saved "wheeler" blobs will enable me write firmware and start the tablet with the blank new chip.
If I'm successful, i could do the same for other members who want to keep the development of the tab going(with them sharing the risk of failure/I'm not an idiot, but a botched solder job is possible) .. So that we can have one last stable ROM until the eventual death of the tab.
Thank you,
Please keep us updated on what you find out. I am still addicted to this tablet and use both the 700 and the 201 (for different functions of course!) I would also be curious about battery options out there..

Hi,
once I started going about it as well and found Elpida EDJ4216EFBG in our unit to seem very similar to the Samsung K4B2G1646C ddr3 chip.
Pinout seems very close except for T7 which is not connected in elpida but its an address pin A14 in samsung I do not know the implications had these chips to be interchanged. Also the ram in my unit is a hynix. Good Luck.

I'll look into the ram when I get the chance.. I was hoping that the pinouts are standard.. I don't think that data lines are redundant in general.. We'll have to ask around or try it for ourselves.
You don't happen to already know any super fast NAND chips with the same pinouts or even the mmc versions supported by the tegra?
Can you PM me the datasheets?
If you manage to pull this off, you will all be my heroes.

I'm a dentist.. I'm looking for someone to do the heavy technical work because searching for these things even with my knowledge is hard.. I'm sure there are ways for design that are learned in engineering school or on the job that I'm not ever going to learn...
The work with steady hands can be left to me.. I already have a few super hard reballing feats under my belt.
I'm really puzzled as how to approach this..
I will go through my library and find you the NAND datasheet as I've downloaded it years ago.
I guess i will start at digi-key and mouser and see what happens.
Wish me luck.

Basically if memory serves me right the samsung are the best bet.
